#villain with ice powers *chefs kiss*
Note
Hey! i hope youre having a great day🌷🌷
Could you pretty please do some angst?? I'm craving for something that'll make me hold my breath and make me so nervous that I'll forget my name. Just pure and raw angst. Maybe something involving betrayal and torture?? That's up to you!!
luv u <3, your writings just *chef kiss*
(sorry for any grammatical mistakes, english is not my first language😅)
“I believe that of this moment, you’re the only person that could possibly understand me,” the hero whispered, quite too aware of all their weaknesses right now. It was dark in the villain’s lair and the whole ambience started with spooky and ended with mysterious. The hero knew what they asked for was impossible to impose on a human.
That’s why they had turned to the villain.
For half a year they had waited to bring this up. It had simmered in their mind and consumed their sleep. They felt sick for coming to the villain with this. They felt sick just thinking about this.
Their enemy toyed with a pointy and slim knife, skilled fingers doing lazy tricks carelessly. The hero knew exactly how painful those blades were.
“Okay,” they said, leaning forward, “let me get this straight. You want me to kill your boss? The superhero? The big shot? The person who raised you?”
The hero swallowed, feeling the dreadful pain punching in their stomach.
“Yes.”
“Because they may have taken international prisoners illegally and tortured them?” The villain didn’t sound convinced. They didn’t even sound interested which was, quite frankly, a problem. The hero had hoped to bait them with the promise of revenge and power. “Is there any proof of that?”
“I’ve seen them, yes. The prisoners, I mean.”
“Ever thought of talking it out?” The villain chuckled at their own question, quite aware that the hero was ranked too low to even exchange glances with the superhero.
It was true that the superhero had raised the hero but that didn’t mean that they had any advantages within the agency. Not to mention the public argument a few years ago. Ever since, the hero had found themselves at daggers drawn with their mentor.
They didn’t talk.
“Look, I don’t wanna get into this family business.”
“They’re not my family anymore.”
“Do you think I’m dumb? This is a trap,” the villain said. Their eyes were as cold as ice, studying every move the hero made, ready for a kill. Ready for anything. “You want me to get close to them so they can kill me.”
The hero swallowed the doubts, pushed back down the tears. If this didn’t work, then a lot of people would get killed. Chaos would rule.
“Listen, I don’t care how you kill them. Hire someone else or take care of them as a sharpshooter — it doesn’t matter,” they said. “We need them dead. For the sake of everyone living in this country. They’ve done questionable things in the past and I was dumb enough to believe that they would change. Actions speak louder than words. They pretend to be a hero but they’re anything but. While I was waiting, everything turned to shit. I can’t let anyone else get hurt because of them. A hero is supposed to help.”
They took in a long breath and sipped on the scotch the villain had brought them. The back of their throat hurt.
“I know how crude this is. And I know it is a lot to ask for. But at the end of the day, I’m afraid we don’t have a chance. Hell, I cried my eyes out when I realised this was the only solution. They’re too dangerous to be captured and sedatives don’t work on them. We have no choice. They will come for you, too.”
At that, the villain raised their eyebrows. They blinked.
“Oh, really?”
“Haven’t you noticed how crimes are dropping? That villains are disappearing?” The statistic was scary. Even for a hero. People with superpowers were vanishing everywhere. “They’ve become a rotting criminal. No offence.”
The villain hummed, a smirk on their face. They seemed much too amused for a topic that was causing the hero’s innards to turn.
“You’re the only one who can defeat them,” the hero said when the villain didn’t speak further. The tears were swelling up again. It hadn’t always been bad. The superhero hadn’t always been bad.
“You really think that?” the villain asked. They leaned forward in their chair, their hands still fidgeting with the weapon. “Do you think I’m scary, little hero?”
The hero was too short on vocable creativity to describe the sound of their voice. The closest word was probably flirty.
“A bit, yes.”
“Hmm.” The villain seemed to be satisfied with that answer. Swiftly, they stood up and reached for the hero’s cheek, wiping away a single tear with their thumb. “That’s quite a mess you’re in, huh?”
The hero leaned against the villain’s hand, savouring the touch.
“Yeah,” they rasped. The villain came even closer, their nose almost touching the hero’s cheek.
“You’re so pretty…” they said, completely entranced. “I’ll help you but after that, I want you to be mine.”
The hero didn’t hesitate. “Deal.”
The superhero died two weeks later. The press said it was a quick and painless death but there was no denying that that didn’t really calm the public. The funeral was short and simple with little room for nosy reporters.
No one knew the killer and being aware of someone who was capable of destroying the strongest superhero on earth was a little more than upsetting. Somehow, the agency managed to keep everything under control, staying reassuring and hopeful in a time of need.
What the villain didn’t know at the time of the killing was that their action made the hero the head of the agency.
“Enjoying your promotion?” they asked the hero sourly the night after everything got released to the public. The hero took in a deep breath.
“I don’t have time for you right now, I’m sorry.” They searched through endless documents, signing them, rearranging them. It was robotic how they went through each paper.
“I’m not here for that,” the villain said. If it was possible, they looked even scarier than usual. “You fucking used me.”
“I didn’t know they had changed the election rules,” the hero responded. “Do you think I wanted this? Do you think I wanted this responsibility and all the work—”
Tears formed in the hero’s eyes again.
“God, why did they make me the leader?” The hero swallowed a sob. “It doesn’t make sense…I didn’t want this—”
“You used me,” the villain said again, their expression getting darker. All they could see was the betrayal and the backstabbing. They’d been so clever, so sure of this. They’d hoped the hero would join them but no, they’d become a more powerful hero. The most powerful.
“I didn’t use you,” the hero said. Tears ran down their cheeks, desperate for some security. “Please.”
They walked around the table, reaching out and grasping the villain’s clothes, holding onto them as if they were their rock in an unforgiving sea. Sobbing into their shoulder, they searched for every possible contact.
“I don’t want this,” they whispered, their voice only cut off by broken gasps and the rising guilt in their throat. “Please. I don’t want this. This can’t be happening. It’s too much. Please, I need you.”
The hero almost slipped but the villain caught them clumsily, holding them to their chest in a comforting manner.
“Shh,” they said, rubbing the hero’s back. “It’s a lot, I know.”
And suddenly, the murderous thoughts got replaced by a memory. The villain was reminded of the time when they’d lost their parents.
“Please help me,” the hero said, rubbing their face into the villain’s suit. “I can bring you into the agency, I can give you power, just please help me.”
The villain contemplated. The hero was so desperate and alone…Guilt was eating them up and everything inside the villain tossed and turned. Every natural instinct rebelled and fought but it didn’tmatter. The Villain had made their decision already.
Compassion overwhelmed them. They’d never felt something like this before. Something — the hero made them weak. Seeing them cry, seeing them desperate and upset…there was no use fighting this. Feelings were always dangerous but now with the superhero out of the way, things could be easier.
All the villain had ever wanted was to protect their family. That had spiralled into this great mess that their life was. And maybe, the hero could fix that. Maybe the hero could help them and give them a fresh start.
They kissed the top of the hero’s head.
“I’ll join you,” they said, smiling warmly.
“You would do that for me?”
“Yes, darling. Besides, being a hero is probably not that bad.”
It was worse.
The villain cried out when the hero stabbed their thigh. It was sharp and painful and probably had cut deep enough into their flesh to touch bone.
The tears were quick to follow; a waterfall of salt as suffering surrounded the villain. It was so bad, they were ready to give up here on the spot. A week ago the hero had started to prepare for war. Allies had turned into enemies which had led to several attacks across the whole country.
City after city had turned into ashes and the hero had been willing to sacrifice every life for their great plan. We need to help. Our neighbours need us.
The words echoed in the villain’s mind, making them cry even more. You and I. We were born to be leaders.
No matter how much the villain had begged them rethink their plan, to come back to bed and relax, to take the day off with them, no matter how hard they’d tried, the hero hadn’t given up.
“Darling, it doesn’t have to be like this,” the hero said gently, tilting their head. They seemed to be unbothered by the flames around them. By the screams and the burning buildings. “Stop resisting me, my love.”
The villain tried to stand up but their ankle had been shattered throughout the fight.
“You knew it, didn’t you?” they wheezed. Tasting blood, they spat on the ground. “You knew that if the superhero died, you would get the position.”
“I did,” the hero confessed. They looked at the scene around them and had the audacity to look hopeful, proud even. “But I didn’t ask you to kill them because of that. Don’t you see? It’s our responsibility to help people. They were torturing people.”
“And what are you doing? Look around you,” the villain screamed. “You’re mad if you think this will bring peace.”
The pain was overwhelming. The villain didn’t know how much blood they had lost but judging by the ground, it was a lot.
“Have you seen the statistics?” the hero asked. “The poverty and the amount of crime in other countries— have you seen the misery?”
“Do you see the misery?!” the villain shouted again. “Fucking look around you.”
“I’ve made the calculations. Sacrificing our country is worth it when we can save our neighbouring countries. You and I. We have brought wealth and happiness to everyone here. We can do it again,” they lowered their weapon, offering a hand and the villain just stared. Stared at the hand. Stared at the horrible decisions.
They should’ve seen it coming. They should’ve killed the hero when they’d had the chance.
And yet, the villain looked into the same eyes. The eyes of someone who had wanted to help prisoners, someone who had overcome themselves for the greater good. Someone who had thrown their morals away with good intentions.
Someone who had never found their morals ever again.
“You’re a monster,” the villain said. A sob escaped their mouth. “I thought I loved you. Fuck, I really thought if someone could help me change, it would be you.”
“We’re heroes,” the hero mumbled.
“Actions speak louder than words,” the villain reminded them. “You taught me that.”
With their last strength, they managed to get a grip on the hero and tackle them to the ground. The hero made a pathetic sound when their head smashed into the ground.
“Fuck,” the villain said, breathing heavily. It felt like there was blood in their lungs. “I really did. I really loved you.”
And before the hero managed a response, the villain took their knife and pushed it far enough into the hero’s chest to make the breaking of their ribs a sound. The hero tried to grab them, tried to hold them, push the knife away but they just ended up cutting their hands, losing even more blood.
By now, the villain was sobbing, the shock infiltrating their mind and the feeling of the hero’s crumbling life running through their fingers dawning on them. When the hero’s movements stilled and their breathing stopped, the villain intertwined their fingers.
For the last time, they kissed the top of the hero’s head. They knew they wouldn’t survive this either.
And they were glad they didn’t.

My thoughts on Echo
(Not that anyone's dying to hear my takes lmao) This is gonna be a long post so buckle up
I feel like a lot of people either really loved it or really hated it. I think I'm somewhere in the middle. There was a lot to love about it, there were some really great moments, but also there was a lot left to be desired. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I hoped, but I want to be fair about it. I'm interested to see if people agree with me, if I'm completely wrong, etc. So feel free to tell me if I'm way off base with some of these opinions.
To start, here's the things I liked about it (in no particular order):
The fight choreography. The brutality of it was really something, especially in that first episode. It felt pretty grounded and real for the most part, which I really appreciated. That's one of the things that set Daredevil apart, so it's really great to see that Marvel's willing to go there again (although I think it got tamer as the show went on, wish the brutality would have kept up)
Tumblr media
Maya's characterization, especially in the beginning of the show. I liked her moral complexity, I liked her refusal to be a good guy or a bad guy (wish that continued more throughout, tbh)
The canonization of the Netflix shows!!! We finally have acknowledgement. The scene with the hammer? The flashbacks to Fisk's father? Amazing.
Tumblr media
Parallels between Maya and Fisk. I loved the way their relationship directly mirrored the way Fisk interacted with his father. Fisk in essence, becoming his father—the exact person he always wanted to avoid. And then Maya kicking the ice cream man when he's already down? Like that scene with the bully in DD season 1? Chef's kiss.
Sound design/editing. They made some really cool creative decisions here, especially for a show about a deaf person. Very cool.
Depiction of Indigenous culture. I'm not qualified to really speak on this, so I may be way off base, but it felt really respectful to me. It didn't seem to fetishize or exoticize Maya's heritage; it explored the everyday lives of her and her family, the way they partcipate in their culture. The combination of her powers with her heritage was beautiful to me.
The cinematography at certain scenes. I don't think it was exceptional throughout, but there were some great moments. The flashback sequences with her ancestors, the silent movie thing, and the scene with Fisk and the ice cream man all had pretty stunning cinematography.
Tumblr media
D'onofrio's acting. But that's a given.
Disability representation. It felt to me like it was done in a very respectful, normalizing way, which is so important.
Alaqua Cox's performance. I was really impressed. Maya Lopez is her first role; and she's really killed it. I think at times she could have expanded her range a little, but overall, very excellent.
As a bonus (because the show's not about him and I don't want to make it all about him): Matt's cameo. Amazing. It was such a cool decision to show a Daredevil fight from the villain perspective. It made Matt look soooo scary. Also, I love the implications that he's being puppeteered by Fisk! Even after all he's done to take Fisk down, Fisk still has the upper hand. Fisk knew he was there, and lured him there to get Maya to fight him? As a training exercise? Really cool, interesting implications to be explored in DDBA.
Tumblr media
So there's a lot to love about the show obviously. However, at least for me, there was also a lot to criticize—and the criticisms overpowered the good things imo. Again, that's just me, and if you loved the show, more power to you!
Here's the things that I didn't like:
Tonal whiplash. It felt like the show couldn't really decide if it wanted to be a dark gritty crime thriller, or if it wanted to be a heartwarming family dramedy. There was also a little too much "Marvel humor," if you know what I mean. It was just really jarring at times.
The bait and switch. Whatever your thoughts on the show, I think it's fair to say that it was WAAAY off from what the trailers gave us. The trailers relied so heavily on content from the original Daredevil show, and the way they were edited made it seem like it was going to be a lot closer, tonally and quality-wise, to Daredevil. They made it look way darker and grittier than the show actually was. To be clear: I'm NOT upset that Matt wasn't in it more. It wasn't his show, and I was more than happy with his cameo. I'm just irritated at the bait and switch from the trailers, both tone and content wise.
Fisk's characterization. This is probably the thing that irritated me the most. He was so weak here!! I wasn't scared of him at all. In Daredevil, every time Fisk came on screen I felt like my intestines were shriveling up in fear. In Echo, though, he just felt so vulnerable and helpless and almost pathetic. I mean, Daredevil showed Fisk's vulnerability, but it almost made him scarier. Here, though, he just felt like a run-of-the-mill Marvel villain. A bad guy, sure, but not really scary. (I think the exception to this is the ice cream man scene, which was excellent).
Tumblr media
Emotional stakes. They were too low for me. The writers didn't really give me any reason to care that much about what was going on. I didn't feel terribly connected to Maya or her family; I don't know, I just didn't feel that we had enough investment in them. I don't really know how to solve this problem—it definitely wasn't a matter of screen time, because they got plenty. But for some reason, I just didn't really feel connected to any of them. I think my one exception to this was Henry; something about him was really compelling, and I really cared what happened to him. But with everyone else, I just felt sort of disconnected and a little apathetic. To make matters worse, though, it felt like the writers kept trying to use shorthand to make us care—they used different tropes and techniques to try to manufacture emotion; lots of sappy music and dialogue and things like that. But honestly, it all felt very unearned. It felt like emotional manipulation a little bit, if I'm being honest.
Fisk and Maya's relationship. We were just kind of told that they are close, and we get one scene of Maya as a little girl (again, the ice cream scene, which was great). But at that point, they were already close. I think I would have bought into their relationship more if we got to see how they first met, and why Fisk cared about her so deeply. The thing that sets Fisk apart from other Marvel villains is his great capacity for love, imo. But their relationship felt cheap and inauthentic, and I just didn't buy it. I think we needed more scenes like the ice cream man scene for their relationship to feel really authentic.
Tumblr media
Why was Fisk willing to give Maya his criminal empire? Make her the queenpin? After she shot him in the head??? This is a man who decapitated someone after that guy embarrassed him. Maya attempts murder, and Fisk is like "take my business." It just didn't make any sense to me. Maybe it would have made more sense if we got some more in-depth views of Fisk's love for Maya, but as it was, this just fell flat for me.
Fisk felt out of character in a lot of regards, but one of them is that he never learned ASL. What??? He's a smart man, and very good at languages. In Daredevil we see that he speaks the languages of everyone he works with—Madame Gao, Nobu, etc.—because he respects them and because he wants to be involved and know the ins and outs of his people. But he won't even learn ASL for a woman who he supposedly sees as a daughter???
The contact lens thing. That was just so weird, I did not like it Sam-I-Am. I don't know, maybe they'll make it work better if they use it in DDBA, but who knows.
Tumblr media
How did Fisk gain so much power again??? At the end of Daredevil season 3, which is now officially canon, Fisk was universally hated by the city after everything he did. But suddenly he has all this power, and it's unexplained. To be fair, I'll give the show a temporary pass. I assume that DDBA will answer some of those questions, probably gaining power during the blip, going under the radar until he has the media under his control, etc. But it felt weird not to have any acknowledgement of his current position or how he got there throughout the course of the show.
Fisk being defeated with Maya's new powers. I don't know, I think just the way it was executed, it felt really cheesy. Even cringey. I think the storyline of the ancestor magic could have been so powerful and cool against a different sort of villain. It would have been more impactful against a villain who had been set up as a more direct metaphor for racism or colonialism (I mean, Fisk is used as a metaphor for gentrification in Daredevil, but they never really go into that in Echo). I don't know, I think the way he was defeated was just really dissatisfying, and I was just disappointed.
Maya's powers in general felt a little underdeveloped. It's different than the comics, which is fine, but in that case, I think they should have spent even more time going over exactly what she can do. I don't know, again, it just felt cheesy at times. Which would have been fine in another show, but in this one, which was billed as a gritty, dark, crime drama, it just felt really out of place.
Her family members suddenly getting powers and then easily beating up Fisk's goons? That felt really cheesy to me. It made Fisk feel absolutely powerless and way less interesting of a villain. I just was never at all in any doubt that Maya's family was going to come out of it okay, because Fisk was not scary and they beat him so easily. It made the stakes feel really low. At the end of the show I was just like, "Oh, Fisk is weak. Guess Matt apparently is too, because Maya and her family took Fisk out in like five minutes."
Honestly, just the whole last episode. Before that episode, the show was at, like, a 7 for me. But the last episode dropped it down to a 5 imo. Again, a lot of the stuff in episode 5 is fine, but just didn't necessarily fit the genre or tone of the show.
Tumblr media
I was probably going into it with expectations too high. But I think, considering the talent that Marvel has, the show could have been incredible. I don't want to blame the artists too much, honestly, because there's clearly a lot of great artistic choices throughout. The whole thing feels like the writers wanted to do risky, interesting things with the storytelling, and then studio execs swooped in and were like
"No! You have to follow The Formula™️! The lead has to believe in herself and help everyone with magic and the villain needs to be defeated really conventionally and easily. And you need to use lots of jokes and sitcom style banter. It has to feel like a MARVEL movie, because everyone loves those. No one has any complaints about how stale they've gotten lately. Stick to the formula."
So it just feels like a bunch of half-baked decisions and risks they started on, but didn't fully commit to.
Idk, I'll give it a rewatch in a little while and see if my opinion changes or not. But those are my thoughts at this point. Again, not the worst show ever, but far below the bar of what it could have been. A lot of potential, but overall not to the standard that I think it deserved.
I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts; if you agree, disagree, think I'm an idiot, etc.
(An obligatory Matt gif to end the post)

2. We're the Smoke Where There's Fire by Only_1_Truth
Q's world gets turned upside-down when MI6 decides that they want to recruit him. As a uniquely powerful magic-user, Q can usually handle himself very well, but will he stand a chance when it's just him against multiple highly-trained MI6 agents tasked to bring him in?
All Q knows is that this is going to end in flames - and that's before another stranger gets thrown into the equation.
~~~
i have no idea how i managed to go this long without reccing this author’s bamf!q fics but ngl each and every au they have features bamf!00q and i am here for it ++ superpowers??? yes???
3. Noster nostri by Only_1_Truth
What if Q didn’t run away - what if he was disowned? What if Q had time to learn glyphs - and applied them to something else? What if instead of becoming a hooker, Q became a Summoner?
(Set in the same AU as Part 1 of this series, "The Magic of Christmas," this story follows the same world-logic - but can be read as a stand-alone.)
~~~
q being a bamf magic man is such a guilty pleasure of mine + demon!bond is chef’s kiss
4. Sleep When We're Dead by Only_1_Truth
Bond has been kidnapped and tortured before, but this is the first time he's been with Q, and they've both taken the fall when a mission went wrong. Caught with no hope of rescue in sight, Bond realizes how terrifying it can be when villains go for the weakest link... and that weakest link isn't you.
~~~
q withstanding torture like a tough cookie is such a yes and bond beating ppl up for hurting q is also such a yes
5. Blue-Eyed Monster by Only_1_Truth
Yes, this version of 007 was a terrifyingly smart agent, and M wondered long and often whether it had been a good idea to promote him to the position. Usually, the title was the dangerous part - being 007 meant deadliness - but this time, M feared that a certain man with ice-blue eyes and scruffy blonde hair had dragged in more danger to the title than it had previously possessed
Enter MI6's new Quartermaster: an unassuming, bespectacled genius with no mind for subterfuge but plenty of genius behind a dry smile. Curious 00-agents and young boffins don't always mix in predictable ways...
~~~
q holding his own against bond!1!1!1!!1!
6. this madness of miracles (escaping the burning wait) by Rosslyn
“Oh shut up,” Q snaps, irate. “Don’t doubt me. I can think of forty-seven ways to fix this, just off the top of my head. Get off the island.”
~~~
q being the boss? yes
Autumn anime 2023 is so STACKED, it's illigal!
Aside from the obviously amazing continuing shows, there's TOO MANY great new ones.
Based on first episodes, here's my top ranking (may be subject to change cuz Apothecary Diaries isn't out yet. And excluding SpyxFamily, dr. Stone and Tokyo Revengers which are all *chef's kiss*)
1. Kamonohashi Ron: Deranged Detective
Tumblr media
you had me at Detective. and then you had me at Deranged. Also, I'm a big fan of Amano Akira's other works, Reborn and eldLIVE (Psycho-Pass not so much, but she only did the character art) Depressed adult who is too curious for his own good, what's not to love?
2. Undead Unluck
Tumblr media
I saw the manga before and had been really anticipating the anime. They're such a fun duo and their personalities and abilities compliment one another really well. looks like there'll be a lot of cool unusual superpowers. Reminds me a lot of Blood Lad, just hoping this anime won't end with virtually nothing solved T~T;
3. Kingdom of Ruin
Tumblr media
Bit on the over the top side with the amount of tragedy, but the worldbuilding seems very interesting. I'm a slut for witch hunting too. May end up severely traumatized if I continue, but we'll see how it goes.
4. My New Boss Is Goofy
Tumblr media
My soul is healed, my crops are growing. Grown men doing stilly stuff is comfort food for the eyes. Looks a bit yaoi baiting, but can't complain if it's cute. Reminds me of Cool Douji Danshi.
5. Migi & Dali
Tumblr media
I don't even know what's going on at this point, it's so surreal. Elder couple wants to adopt one child and genius twins thought 'we can work with that'. The silly love children of Johan Liebert and Sakamoto desu ga. (same author as Sakamoto too. it sure shows.)
6. Crash course on Naughtiness
Tumblr media
Last season, I was confronted with the pet-peeve of feeble waifu syndrome (I finished My Happy Marriage, but I'm sorry, I could not stand that girl...) And this season around, I realized the formula that breaks the curse of feeble waifus: a batshit crazy counterpart. This man is just bullying her with kindness. plus points for another excelent job done by Sugita Tomokazu.
7. Frieren
Tumblr media
As a big fan of DnD, I can't say no to such a DnD-based series. Plus the pressure of having to live such a long live as elves do is very interesting. It's a bit slow to my liking, but the characters are amusing and layered.
8. Yuzuki family's 4 sons
Tumblr media
a young man who has to take care of his 3 little brothers after his parents died, give me some napkins Q-Q not a single person looks or acts their age (the youngest has better vocabulary than I do;;) but it's all fun and sweet and trying to find your way in an unusual family-hirarchy
9. I'm in love with the villainess
Tumblr media
My eyes hurt from looking at this. But the over the top artstyle works quite well with how silly the story is. I too would like to say 'step on me, mommy' to my favorite villain. Just hope it won't become repetitive in its jokes.
10. Tearmoon Empire
Tumblr media
Wow, will you look at that. Another reincarnated villainess. Luckily, this one has no memories of living in a different world or something. Just her future self's diary. Enjoying the concept where she's not suddenly a saintly good girl for a change.
11. Oujo to Banken
Tumblr media
This dude is on THIN fucking ice. I commonly enjoy age gaps very much. but in no way what so ever, would I support a relationship between a teenager and the 10 year older guy who basically raised her. Him being her parent figure is where I draw the line. That said, I'm eating up the amount of over-protectiveness and yakuza-logics. It has the amount of spice I had hoped to find in Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting that wasn't there.
12. Ragna Crimson
Tumblr media
I'm sorry. just...... you can't make me believe that the ditsy loli-girl is the best dragon killer in the world. stop. The maincharacter is quite interesting, though. I like how it's like... his actual own power that he has for his OP special snowflake thing. Borrowing tomorrow's energy for today.....that's the description of a burn out I read the other day;;; But you do you, boy. good luck dying very early in life.
Remaking X-Men: Evolution (Season 3)
Tumblr media
(Note: If this looks familiar, that's because this is a reupload. I've rewritten all 4 seasons, plus my own original season. Make sure to check them out!)
Continuing on with my X-Men: Evolution series remake, I decided to put all of the Apocalypse arc into this season rather than spreading it out through seasons 2-4. Take a look:
Tumblr media
Day of Recovery--A chef’s kiss episode for me, so it’s mostly minor changes. It’s noted during the rescue mission that Daken, Polaris, and Colossus are not present, leading the teams to believe that Magneto is alive and has saved them, though the X-Men are still suspicious of the Brotherhood. Prodigy and Bobby are a duo (as Kitty has went with the Morlocks along with the rest of the New Mutants), and it’s Magik who rescues Wolverine instead of Spyke. Nightcrawler and Mystique have a brief bonding moment. Nightcrawler is disappointed that Cyclops left Mystique behind, though Destiny warns Scott that he will pay for his actions, and Havok supports him, despite having some misgivings. During her investigation with Toad, Wanda finds Psylocke and uses her abilities to revive her. While she awakens from her coma, Psylocke seems to feel more hesitant on being the Brotherhood’s side, but still uses her telepathy in order to allow the Brotherhood to live in Mystique’s house undetected by the police.
2. The Stuff of Heroes--Again we take some influence from my version of “Survival of the Fittest.” First off, Gambit goes with Rogue and Logan to the store, making out with Rogue to prevent her from being recognized and seriously injuring himself. However, they’re found out anyway. Magik accompanies Beast (who does most of the speech, being the only adult) and Storm to the summit. However, while the mutants watch, Iceman, Magik, Prodigy, Rogue, and Jean are transported into the Mojoverse and forced to battle Juggernaut and prevent him from destroying a dam–but they don’t realize they’re being televised on Earth and the dam is in their area. The rest of the X-Men are forced to defend themselves against the military. In the end, when the X-Men are transported back to Earth, Longshot attempts a failed rebellion against Mojo, who sends him and Shatterstar to Earth, though Longshot now has amnesia and the two are separated.
Tumblr media
3. Mainstream--A few changes; Kitty is one of the students taken home, and being away from the X-Men allows her and Lance to still maintain a relationship. Bobby, like Kurt, is also unrecognized because he was in his ice form at the time he was on camera. Graydon works together with Principal Kelly (who doesn’t know about his heritage) and invites the Brotherhood back to school in place of Kelly, claiming he’s working for Mystique and has reconciled with her. Amanda becomes disillusioned with Kurt not sticking by his friends and threatens to break up with him if he doesn’t stick up for them, and Bobby decides to reveal himself as a mutant. Both Jean and David are accused by Kelly of using their powers to get achievements (which David did sometimes on tests, something he inadvertently reveals that gets him expelled, making him go to school online for the rest of the season). During the Brotherhood’s rampage, Nightcrawler tries to reconcile with Graydon, who only outs him as a mutant.
Tumblr media
4. The Stuff of Villains--Combines elements of season 2’s “Mindbender” so that the Apocalypse saga fully occurs in season 3. Wanda is searching for Pietro, giving us flashbacks into her, his, and Polaris’ childhoods. Psylocke is trying to locate Daken, Polaris, and Colossus, but finds something blocking her. Destiny discovers Jean, Nightcrawler, Magik, and Gambit have been brainwashed to commit crimes, and Psylocke goes to the X-Men to see if there is a connection. The remaining X-Men and Psylocke rescue Quicksilver that evening before turning their attention to the brainwashed X-Men. After defeating them (but not before Mesmero gets the key), Psylocke is invited to join the X-Men, but the stress she’s experienced has her hesitant to engage in more battles. Xavier instead offers her a room at the institute with no obligation to join the X-Men (as long as she keeps going to school), to which she agrees to. She notes that for a second, she sensed the missing Acolytes and Brotherhood members, along with a powerful man she never met.
Tumblr media
5. Blind Alley--Another great episode. In this case, Alex is kidnapped and Scott goes to find him. However, Scott is ambushed by Mystique, who steals his visor and abandons him in Mexico. Jean discovers both of the brothers are gone and a note from Scott. She rescues Alex first, during which time a man scares off Mystique, revealing himself as Mr. Sinister. He attempts to acquire a DNA sample, but is unable to do some before Mystique returns. When Mystique returns to finish Cyclops off, Jean and Havok rescue him from her. I know the episode is supposed to focus solely on Scott and Jean becoming a couple, but I thought it’d be a waste not to include Alex since he’s on the main roster in my version and he’s Scott’s brother.
Tumblr media
6. The Toad, the Witch, and the Wardrobe--This is where everyone will hate me. First off, the Pyro that burns the bridge is actually Simon Lasker, kidnapped by Magneto and brainwashed by Mastermind to be a “fill-in” Pyro for the Brotherhood while the OG Pyro remains an Acolyte. Bobby attempts to break though to him by referencing their brief romantic relationship, allowing time for Storm to douse the flames before any major damage is done. Psylocke stays out of the fight mostly, but attempts to read Pyro’s mind, only to find the brainwashing has left his mind a fortress. Pyro II tries to escape, but Wanda captures him and finds a card. She angrily questions him about it, but unlike Pietro in the original version, is unafraid of her, goading her to visit the ski resort. After getting pep talks from Storm, Iceman, and Beast about being comfortable in his own skin, Nightcrawler and Amanda’s evening with her parents goes as well as it did originally–which is not at all. Pyro II wilingly tells Wanda where to go, only for her to be captured by Magneto. Toad enlists the help of Nightcrawler, who brings Storm, Iceman, and Prodigy with him. They all chastise Toad, who angrily accepts blame and sadly says he doesn’t care about what happens to him, but wants to save Wanda. When they enter Magneto’s sanctum, they notice how empty it is, and ponder if Magneto didn’t rescue Daken, Polaris, and Colossus. Bobby attempts to break through to Simon again, but both of the Pyros outdo him and Storm subdues them with snow. Prodigy helps Toad and Nightcrawler rescue Wanda, who has been conditioned to let her hate of Magneto go. Toad apologizes for being a nuisance to everyone and almost deceiving Wanda into kissing him, and Wanda says that she was cruel to say he had to be someone else and has to learn to care about himself more–something she was going to work on. Amanda and Nightcrawler officially break up, with Nightcrawler realizing he’s not secure enough with himself to date a non-mutant and reveal himself to the world, and that he doesn’t want Amanda to suffer because of him. They part amicably, and Storm and Iceman join them for ice cream.
Tumblr media
7. Self Possessed--One of my favorite episodes. While Rogue flirts with Scott, it’s purely platonic, as Gambit and Rogue are on the cusp of an official relationship. A lot of Rogue’s anxieties are quelled in this version–except for the obvious split personality. Gambit is weary of Risty, but doesn’t mention it to Rogue since he sees how well they get along. Gambit and Rogue go to the concert with Risty, as well as Scott and Jean, Storm and Nightcrawler (hinting at a romantic relationship), and Havok, Magik, and Iceman. In my version, Jean and Scott are a bit more comfortable about the concert being a date. After Rogue absorbs Mystique again, she has flashbacks once more of her childhood, albeit seeing it from her adoptive mother’s eyes. She realizes that Mystique is her adoptive mother, and criticizes her for always using and manipulating Rogue, Nightcrawler, and even Graydon. Mystique acknowledges that at certain times she was driven by selfish goals (saying the whole thing in “Blind Alley” with Scott was personal, albeit reckless). She says that being friends with Graydon and Rogue was something she wanted to do because she knew they wanted nothing to do with her–in contrast to Nightcrawler, who she planned to pick up the pieces with later, knowing he’d be more forgiving. Rogue runs away, memories of her childhood flashing around her. When she uses her ability to fly, she finds Jean taking over. While Gambit and Nightcrawler try to soothe her, it is still Jean and Professor X who quell her raging mind. Psylocke visits her out of sympathy while she’s healing, while Gambit kisses her forehead. In the end, Rogue notes a conversation Mystique had with Destiny, something about “Apocalypse.”
Tumblr media
8. X-Treme Measures--A freebie episode. It premiered earlier, but I moved it around for narrative purposes. With Spyke gone, this episode still focuses on the Morlocks–specifically taking from “Uncanny X-Men #169-170”. Making Callisto a bit more comic-accurate, she finds Angel saving humans, and invites him to join the Morlocks. When he refuses, she captures him, intent on breaking his spirit (I do want some of the “he’ll be my mate” vibes, but it could be weird since he’s a teen in my version and Callisto is still an adult). Prodigy sees this and attempts to save him, but is struck ill doing so. Storm battles Callisto in order to save both Angel and Prodigy, coming out victorious. There is a brief moment where Storm is almost overcome with hatred, and Nightcrawler talks her down from it, sharing a brief kiss with her. The X-Men invite Angel to join them, and he says he will consider it.
Tumblr media
9. Under Lock and Key--Essentially follows the same beat, except Mesmero uses Quicksilver to get the relic instead of Gambit, Beast goes with Wolverine to track down Mystique, and the bonding scene between Rogue and Nightcrawler lasts a little longer, with Mystique’s memories giving Rogue flashbacks to her and Kurt’s childhood and discussing it with him. Gambit quietly listens in the doorway, not wanting to ruin their moment. It’s hinted that Mesmero knows the whereabouts of Magneto’s missing members, making Magneto almost kill him. Banshee also appears, and while not officially joining the X-Men, tells them that they have his number. At the end of the episode, Angel joins the New Mutants.
Tumblr media
10. Cruise Control--Occurs in a similar way, but switching up the characters; Beast takes Storm’s role as chaperone, Storm takes Kitty’s role in having fun with Nightcrawler, and Magik takes Boom-Boom’s role, which includes making a woman’s food come to life and exposing the group as mutants (Somnus attempts to make them think they dreamt it, but very few passengers believe that). Kurt also mentions he wishes Rogue could’ve been there to enjoy the cruise. Both Magma and Rictor feel the volcanic eruption, and they team up to save the day.
Tumblr media
11. X23--I don’t have a lot of changes for this. Obviously make Laura look more like Wolverine like she does in the comics, and give Wolverine a cathartic moment where X-23 reminds him of Daken, and he ponders if he only exists to cause pain and how he could help them. Psylocke also recalls her time in the Mojoverse and that she was an assassin while under his control.
Tumblr media
12. Dark Horizon (Part 1)--Happens similarly, with a few changes: it’s Magik at the beginning of the episode, Graydon taunts Scott and Jean with Principal Kelly, Rogue using her powers on Wanda inadvertently loosens some of Mastermind’s brainwashing on Wanda (which also happens when Rogue uses her powers on Pyro II), it is up to Magik and Nightcrawler to find Apocalypse’s hidden room. During the investigation, Iceman attempts to break through to Pyro II, who vaguely recalls Magneto’s imprisonment.
Tumblr media
13. Dark Horizon (Part 2)--The teams split up differently: Magik, Nightcrawler, and Prodigy; Cyclops, Pyro, and Havok; Quicksilver, Pyro II, and Iceman; Beast, Magneto, and Professor X; and Storm and Jean. During their investigation, Prodigy suspects the missing mutants are somewhere in the pyramid, and Mr. Sinister appears briefly when Scott and Jean reunite. Other than that, the episode plays out pretty similar to the OG episode.
Tumblr media
14. Impact--It's so emotional as-is! Though I do have changes: Wanda’s hypnosis is wearing off (which explains why she’s sympathetic to Rogue and Nightcrawler’s situation) though she doesn’t remember all the painful memories yet; Magneto doesn’t disappear and is just repelled by Apocalypse; and Nightcrawler has an angry “how could you?!” With Rogue before they both break down into tears, comforted by Storm and Gambit. But neither of them see Mystique’s statue repairing itself, slowly turning her back into flesh and blood (protected by the bargain she had made to help Apocalypse).
Tumblr media
15. Cajun Spice--Deals more with the pain Kurt and Rogue feel, having them jumping between screaming matches and depressed interactions. Nightcrawler, being who he is, attempts to find some wisdom in the experience while Rogue goes with Remy to New Orleans. The rest of the episode virtually plays out the same, but now Gambit and Rogue become an official couple while Rogue and Nightcrawler reconcile. Kurt apologizes for making Rogue feel as though her pain wasn’t justified, and Rogue apologizes for demeaning his wish to bond with his birth mother and taking away the chance. They agree that Mystique is easy to despise and love, and they wonder if she has the same feelings about them. Mystique secretly listens to this conversation.
Tumblr media
16. Ascension (Part 1)--Remove Storm and Professor X being taken away by Apocalypse, instead they're only injured. The Four Horsemen are revealed: Daken as Death, Colossus as War, Polaris as Pestilence, and a new mutant known as Vulcan becomes famine. Mr. Sinister reveals that Vulcan is the brother of Havok and Cyclops, who he saved following the airplane crash that happened to the Summers family. Mystique reveals she’s alive to the X-Men and states that she will assist them take down Apocalypse. Everything else is the same.
Tumblr media
17. Ascension (Part 2)--The teams in different corners of the world: Storm, Magma, Jean Grey, Multiple, Somnus, and Rictor face Death (Daken) in Egypt; Prodigy, Beast, Havok, and Cyclops face Famine (Vulcan) in China; Magik, Sunspot, Wolverine, Psylocke, and Angel face off against War (Colossus) in Mexico; and Magneto, Professor X, Gambit, Scarlet Witch, Nightcrawler and Mystique go to face Pestilence (Polaris) at the Sphinx. There’s A LOT going on–like 1 hour of stuff going on. I’d want there to be brief “Dance with Death” and “War of Swords” sequences (inspired by “X of Swords” parts 3 and 13), Magneto and Wanda trying to break through to Polaris, flashbacks to Vulcan’s (who almost wins before running out of energy) manipulation under Sinister’s tutelage and descent into madness, and a real apology from Mystique to Nightcrawler and Kurt about how awful she’s been to them. In the wake of saving the world, attitudes towards mutantkind shift a bit more positive, allowing for Jubilee, Shadowcat, and Wolfsbane to return to the New Mutants, and Prodigy being allowed to return to school. Along with this, Psylocke and Colossus join the New Mutants. It should be noted that Mr. Sinister and Vulcan survive, with Vulcan flying into space to escape Mr. Sinister.
Lemme know what you think! Be sure to tell me what your favorite episode(s) is!
I am still hopelessly behind on most of my fandoms, but as I am now fully caught up on Miraculous I feel more comfortable venturing back into Tumblr. Especially because after seeing "Elation" I feel like I can see how the entire rest of the season is going to go, and I have to share this SOMEwhere or i will explode.
Spoilers for up to this point behind the cut. (Also this got really long.) My predictions are not actually spoilers because I am not involved with the show, I am just a writer and know my pulp. So I guess if you would be mad if I'm right, come back later.
Good? Good. First of all, can I say how much I love this season so far? Managing to reverse the polarity of the love quadrangle? Marvelous. Adding the "openly and mutually love each other but cannot be together because Reasons" flavor of Yearning to the mix? Perfection. Nathalie dumping Gabriel's ass and getting some backstory? Chef's kiss. Having an explicitly redpilled dude without referencing the real world? Masterful.
Okay okay. I am not writing this all as a fic because I still haven't finished the fic I started well before I got long covid, so what you get are the highlights, roughly in chronological order. (I was gonna do bullet points but Tumblr didn't like that.)
THE WHOLE STORY (starting from after "Elation")
Marinette gets gently teased at school for the pictures of The Ice Cream Incident. She deflects, says she's just a really big fan of Cat Noir and they don't actually know each other very well. Adrien and Marinette both has a sad.
Monarch sends a Villain of the Week to kidnap Marinette. Adrien loses his entire shit. Marinette gets free and sneaks away, intercepts Cat Noir before he can run headlong into the trap with the ol' "Oh yeah I totally already rescued Marinette, we are very good friends" chestnut.
VotW defeated. Cat Noir rushes to check on Marinette (after Ladybug delays him with a "Shouldn't you feed your kwami first?"). He feels extremely guilty about making her a target. She tries to reassure him, unsuccessfully. Again the whole parasocial angle comes up, with Marinette getting frustrated that he's stuck on the theoretical ethics and ignoring that she was a willing and active participant in The Incident. He takes her home where her parents are panicking about their daughter being taken hostage. Tom approvingly reminds Cat Noir of his vow to protect Marinette in "Weredad." Cat Noir smiles but leaves immediately (guilt guilt guilt)
The possibility of the heroes sharing their identities gets raised. Cat Noir is again "haha can't trick me" but Ladybug is starting to consider it. When she talks it through with Alya (who is apparently on a permanent sleepover now?), Alya teases that this is just so she can date Cat Noir, which is true. Marinette deflects, counters that they've gained some serious tactical advantage from Alya being in on the secret, which is also true. (Alya declares herself a Secret Keeper (tm).) But the danger is still Monarch finding out.
Alya realizes that Tikki must know who Cat Noir is. But Tikki can't tell her even if she wants to, because of the spell that prevents kwamis from speaking the identity of a holder. Lightbulb! Could they cast the same spell on a human? Hijinx, VotW. Spell doesn't work.
Dejected, Ladybug talks about it with Cat Noir, because she is trying to be more open within the constraints of the things she has to hide. Growth! Cat Noir points out that the real danger is one of them being akumatized, and Ladybug's been able to block that before. Maybe she could power up that charm to counter the megakumas? Ladybug is optimistic, if more cautiously so than before.
The heroes meet up to try out the megacharm. Ladybug pushes too hard. The charm comes out all crackly and broken, and she passes out. Cat Noir freaks, takes her to a vacant room at the hotel to recover, hiding in the bathroom so she can detransform. A VotW appears. Plagg comes in to get the earrings so Adrien can be Mister Bug again, but Marinette has revived a bit and knows he's too upset to do this on his own. She sends Tikki with the earrings to find Scarabella.
Scarabella and Cat Noir handle VotW. Cat Noir is still super worried, tells Scarabella that he's having a really hard time because there's no one he can talk about his whole life with. Ladybug (after some guilting by Alya) later admits to him that she went through something similar and had to tell her best friend her secret. Suggests that Cat Noir find someone he can tell, but to choose that person very carefully. She also proposes attempting the charm again, which Cat Noir shoots down hard.
Adrien contemplates who he can tell. Tries Nino, but Nino does his oblivious Nino thing and he thinks better of it. Tries his dad, but Gabriel is really busy with something and blows him off. Adrien fumes that everyone does this to him. The only person who really seems to listen is... of course! Marinette! Plagg makes lame excuses but Adrien is set on it.
It does not go well. "I didn't mean tell me!!" So now they both know. (Plagg was entirely correct, is insufferable about it.) Once they get past the "once again redefining who I'm in love with" thing, they realize they both have to give up their Miraculous, right? But no, Adrien decides that only one of them has to, and insists that it be him. He starts to renounce Plagg, but Marinette stops him, promises this will only be temporary and they'll find a way to protect themselves from Monarch.
Also Gabriel can feel The Angst from across town, but by the time he can get away from his important business thing they've sorted it out and the akuma lands on someone else.
Marinette deputizes Alya to find a new holder, but warns that it can't be someone who knows who Ladybug is. Alya starts with Luka, but oops, he can't wear the ring for the same reason Alya can't. He insists that it wasn't a problem because he loves both Marinette and Adrien like family, so even Monarch can't get him to betray them. Alya is pissed but also delighted to have another Secret Keeper.
Luka passes on the ring to either Juleka (because she is actual family) or Kagami (because she is badass and also they would make an excellent Pair the Spares). The new hero is Panthress, shows up just in time to help Ladybug with VotW.
Next episode starts with Alya leading a Secret Keeper training session for Adrien and Luka. There is a Powerpoint and branding. Main thing she preaches is that they cannot use nicknames or inside jokes or anything when any of them are not in costume, and to assume that anywhere outside of Marinette's bedroom could be heard by Monarch. CONSTANT VIGILENCE! No Ephemeral bullshit on her watch! It is very intense.
Also, Marinette and Adrien are dating. Gabriel insists that Adrien is too young to have a girlfriend, so they keep it on the DL. Of course all the girls know and are delighted. Lila also figures it out and does some Lilaing to try and prove it, though they're able to keep her from getting any real evidence. Marinette struggles to balance paying attention to her boyfriend and school with superheroing. Adrien takes it better than Luka/Kagami since he knows what's up, but not by much. After a balance-themed VotW shows up and gives Ladybug and Panthress a tough fight, he laments to Alya about being left on the sidelines. "Who said anything about sidelines?" Alya scoffs. "Being a Secret Keeper means you are your hero's secret weapon." They pull off some kind of Sentibubbler/Hack-San trickery that leads to victory.
Alya picks up on the unsubtle balance imagery and realizes that's what why the megacharm failed: something that powerful needs to balance creation and destruction. Panthress gives back her ring. Ladybug and Cat Noir reconvene again and together successfully create a pair of charms, one for each of them. It leaves them both extremely drained, though, and Tikki warns they probably shouldn't attempt it again.
But did it work? There's no way to know without Monarch attempting to akumatize one of them. Not great! They reassure each other that they'll all band together to handle it if that happens. Still, Marinette gets in her head and paranoid about it and tries to keep her distance, reasoning that gives her friends a better chance at stopping her if it becomes necessary (and frankly it's been too long since Marinette made a bad decision).
Meanwhile, wouldntchaknow, Monarch decides this is the perfect time to make another attempt at using Marinette as bait. Nathalie, who has picked up on The Vibe, warns him that he should knock it off for Adrien's sake. Gabriel blows her off, starts plotting to get Marinette good and pissed.
And it works! That big black butterfly heads straight for her. It takes a great effort for Adrien to hang back and watch. The akuma hits the charm and doesn't just get rebuffed--it disintegrates. Marinette and Adrien celebrate. Nathalie, who has taken it upon herself to bodyguard Marinette, is stunned. Monarch is enraged, sends out another akuma to grab a random retread VotW. (Who hasn't been akumatized at this point? I think it's just the art teacher, Mr. Banane, and, like, that one bus driver. That's what happens when there are only about 30 people living in all of Paris.) Marinette and Adrien do a joint transformation, and are positively giddy while they fight VotW. They agree afterwards that Ladybug and Cat Noir probably shouldn't seem to be a couple, because the attention would only get worse.
After the fight, Nathalie drives them home. Marinette and Adrien snuggle in the back seat, talking quietly and vaguely about how things can go back to normal. Nathalie sneaks a pic. Later, she confronts Gabriel with it, says he's refusing to see how he's hurting his son. She lays it all out: as his loyal aide for years, she has everything she needs to destroy him. She's refrained for Adrien's sake, but if Monarch continues threatening the girl Adrien loves, it's war. Gabriel quips that he's proud she's almost as ruthless as he is; she retorts that she's much more ruthless, and always has been. Later, Gabriel gives Adrien his blessing to date Marinette.
And then... plot stuff? There's still all the business with Felix and the resistance and getting set up for the final showdown and "smart devices are evil, metaphorically but also literally", but it isn't the Romance Arc so I haven't been obsessing over it. Somewhere in there, they specify that the grimoire describes the ability to make the wish as "two great powers contained in one heart." Also Master Su-Han arrives at a point before the final battle when all seems lost, with all the Guardians in tow to kick all the ass. They arrive either by hopping across the rooftops, or by bus because Su-Han hopped across rooftops all the way to Tibet and fuck that. (I can't decide which is funnier.) Also also they are all obsessed with cat videos.
Anyway, somehow it gets to the final throwdown, Ladybug and Cat Noir vs. Monarch. The battle reveals that Monarch has seriously rotted from the cataclysm. Ladybug frets that they could heal him if they had the lucky charm from that night. Nathalie goes "Oh, you mean this thing?" and produces it. (She finds it earlier and recognizes it as a lucky charm but doesn't know where it came from, so keeps it handy.) One "Miraculous Ladybug" later and Gabriel is healed.
He's stunned that Ladybug would help him after all this. But he's also the kwami of Sunk Cost Fallacy, so he still insists he needs the two great powers in one heart to make his wish. Lightbulb! What can make two hearts into one? Why, love, of course! Marinette thinks a Ladybug and Cat Noir in love might be able to accomplish the same thing.
They go down to Emilie's chamber for the attempt. Ladybug confirms that Emilie's condition is from the broken peacock Miraculous going parasitic and sucking away all of Emilie's life force instead of just what it needed to recharge. They might be able to give her back enough energy to be healed.
Ladybug and Cat Noir succeed in creating a megacharm, but the impact is closer to Ladybug's first attempt. They both detransform and are barely conscious. Marinette weakly tells Gabriel to give the charm to his wife and call her to wake up. He does, while Nathalie tends to Adrien and Marinette.
Emilie awakens. But she's weak after her long sleep and still coughing, and it's a struggle for Gabriel to help her out of her life support tube. Enraged, he accuses Ladybug of tricking him. Emilie sadly pats her husband's cheek. "This is what I feared would happen, my love. What have you become?" Gabriel is gutted.
Emilie explains that the charm is healing her, but cannot do so fast enough to combat the severe damage to her body. It would take a steady supply of such charms to fully restore her. "And the cost," she says, looking at her son, who is beginning to recover and clutching Marinette, "is too great."
"But I promised," Gabriel insists. "I swore I would bring you back."
"And you did. You gave me more time. Even one more minute with you, one more chat with my dearest Nathalie, one more chance to see my son and meet the girl he loves, all of that is a gift I never deserved. But you must promise me something else now. When this gift of time runs out, you must let me go. You must let me rest."
Gabriel agrees. Various tearful reunions. Emilie gives the charm to Nathalie, who might still be healed. Marinette awkwardly tries to excuse herself, but Emilie insists she stay. "You are family, are you not? And you will all need to take care of each other."
Gabriel puts a hand on Marinette's shoulder. "We will."
And then they all have dinner at one end of that ridiculously long table, with Adrien and Marinette being cute together and probably some voiceover.
END OF SEASON and probably a cliffhanger about a new Big Bad
Other things I think are likely/possible but didn't fit in my Grand Unified Theory:
Adrien asks Luka for advice on how to handle things with Marinette. Luka explains that he got his zen outlook through a lot of therapy and practice (because come on, he's too perfect, he needs some explanation) and offers to teach Adrien a bit
Alternatively, Adrien finds out that Luka knows that he's Cat Noir, and is able to confide in Luka the way Marinette confides in Alya
Or Luka advises Marinette (because at this point he's pretty much Hot Agony Aunt, it's going to happen in some flavor) that her bad decisions don't come from the way she feels, but the way she tries to hide her feelings. They broke up not because of her secret, but because she wouldn't be honest that she wasn't that into him.
Adrien figures out how to view the footage from Felix's monocle. Learns the truth about both his parents, freaks out and runs to Marinette's house. (This works even if he doesn't know she's Ladybug, because he's panicked and she's the one person who feels like sanity and safety.)
Nathalie sabotages the kwami containment system or otherwise fucks with Monarch's stuff
Nathalie (or another quasi-villain, possibly Felix or Chloe) gets the Snake from Monarch but uses its power to help the heroes
Amelie knows about the peacock Miraculous, and maybe even wielded it. That's why Felix wanted it back.
Adrien is the one put in serious danger at some point (before identities are revealed), forcing Marinette to realize that she does still love him, oops. Also forces Monarch to wonder if maybe he's going too far? (Nah.)
Monarch makes his wish, and Emilie is fully healed, but the life exchanged is Adrien's, oops. Ladybug figures out how to reverse this.
Sorry, Gabriel and/or Nathalie, but redemption = death
Whatever happens, Emilie IS NOT FULLY REVIVED. It's just not gonna happen. Not only does that teach the lesson that all the horrible stuff Gabriel did was rewarded in the end, but the show has heavily focused on themes of dealing with guilt, accepting loss, and facing the consequences of your actions, so wiping out the core concept with a magic reset button undermines all that. (Are there two Miraculous that grant their holders a literal magic reset button? Yes. Shh.) The only way it would work for Emilie to live is if Gabriel trades his life for hers (see above point)
Vaguer predictions for later seasons:
Someone else takes over as Hawkmoth. Predicted candidates: - Nathalie (adults are a more convincing threat than children, has her own interest in the Miraculous) - Amelie (didn't see that one coming, evil twin = operatic af) - Felix (shady bastard, would use the wish to bring back his father) - Lila (heavily foreshadowed, whole deal is being a dick)
Gabriel uses his extensive knowledge of the Miraculous to become a Guardian, or at the very least restores the Miraculous to their previous forms. With at least two more seasons, there's time for him to have a proper redemption arc, a la Zuko or Scarlemagne. That doesn't mean he's dodged redemption = death, though.
Adrien is dealing with serious anger and grief about his father's betrayal. Forgiveness will be a long, hard road if it comes at all. Marinette pushes reconciliation because her loving and supportive family makes it hard for her to understand that Adrien might be better off without a parent.
Another point of contention with them: Marinette's control freak tendencies vs. Adrien's growing desire to assert himself
They stay together despite difficulties, but continue to insist that Ladybug and Cat Noir are not a couple. Paris continues to not remotely believe them. High chance of fake dating, alter egos that are still them, other silly romance tropes (because we still haven't run out, no sir)
Something breaks one/both megacharms to bring back some "it's not you it's my enemies" stakes
There's at least one more Miracle Box in play in NYC, and who knows how many others. So many superheroes!
But Marinette's box is the main one, and there's only one Ladybug. So instead of being the de facto leader of a dozen superheroes, she's the de facto leader of hundreds. Yay?
Marinette will want to retire as a Guardian but there's that pesky mindwipe to deal with
Another Guardian (maybe even Gabriel) suggests that maybe there's a better way of vetting holders for these ancient, powerful jewels than just giving them to her classmates? (jk there's not, they go through a bunch of auditions and stuff and the original holders are still the best)
A bunch of new characters introduced as the cast disperse to vocational schools. There will now be 50 people living in Paris instead of 30! (We will still run out of people to akumatize.) This will include a new shippable couple to troll us endlessly with, as well as a new antagonist because Chloe and Lila are honestly played out.
Alya hands over control of the Ladyblog, feeds her successor endless plausible bullshit about hero identities
As mentioned above, Luka and Kagami date for a bit and then amicably break up. Everyone tries to project drama into it, but their whole deal is that they're levelheaded to a fault
Rose/Juleka and Marc/Nathaniel are explicitly confirmed as couples (instead of just being shown in parallel with other couples as they have been). Because this show makes "fuck you" money and can do what they want
So how much of this will be right? I don't know! I was sure they couldn't milk much more distance out of the "will they/won't they" romance and hoo boy they surprised me. I am equally certain that I will be more or less correct with my outline and that something will happen in the very next episode that completely fucks my bracket. I will be delighted to be right, delighted for them to pull something I never saw coming, and generally just delighted to have more episodes.
Les Misérables BBC episode 2
LM2000 has my favourite Thénardier, and I like how that adaptation portrayed him and Madame Thénardier as people in love. Were they scoundrels, sure, but they weren't necessarily villainized nor made into a comic relief. So seeing Thénardier hitting his wife in LMBBC is hmmmm (maybe it's book canon idk yet tho) but like it doesn't really add anything? Just because Thénardier is a thief and scoundrel doesn't mean he has to abuse his wife...
The obvious "I know who you are" the moment Javert saw Madeleine is not bad (I think most adaptations go that way, more or less, but LM2000 was very subtle about it and I liked how Madeleine was not visibly bothered (he knew that Javert was coming so he could prepare himself) and always spoke to Javert from a position of power, and Javert only realized/confirmed whatever !! thoughts after the cart scene, even though thanks to Malkovich's acting you could see his brain working upon meeting Madeleine for the first time but he said or implied nothing)
(I knew I would compare them, but I haven't realized they'd be so... opposite... and so far I do like both approaches)
not a big fan of Javert telling anyone about his suspicions before Madeleine humiliates him :((( The cart scene just wasn't enough in the book. The cart scene happened like two years before Fantine's arrest :((( But here he just goes to Paris. Hey, I found Jean Valjean. just to be told that Jean Valjean was arrested a few days ago. And now Fantine's timeline will get too messed up :((( (2000 was better about this. Like it's not a big issue but I do think that humiliation played a big part of Javert's denunciation. "You humiliated Javert? It's over for you.")
that said, the way they did it fits this adaptation, so I'm okay with it.
I also, I think, like that Valjean didn't lost his irritability and his "do before think" trait he had in/after Toulon in this series. He was agitated because of Javert, because he knew that now Javert had proof (even tho the proof was "he strong" lol) so that influenced the way he dealt with Fantine (which is obviously not book!Valjean, but feels IC for this one) (also liked that in the dubbing, Madeleine started using the equivalent of "tu" with Fantine when firing her, and then when she was in the infirmary, he went back to "vous")
Fantine's arrest was fine imho but I would enjoy if Fantine's descent to misery and towards prostitution wasn't done in the matter of days instead of months/a year.
Javert: "What exactly does this woman mean to you?" Javert pls
"You astonish me."
hm, I wonder if the reason why Javert went to Madeleine to tell him that he denounced him only now (and not when he came back from Paris) was because he wanted to see what Madeleine would do. He knew he would risk his good name to save Fantine, so did he want to see what he would do if Javert told him that "Jean Valjean" was arrested? I can't see that scene as Javert genuinely apologizing, there was too much tension for that. (Even tho this Javert genuinely apologizing and trembling would be chef's kiss, but I do feel like he was testing Valjean. Hence the handshake too)
But I also think that Fantine's arrest was the beginning of "Javert is starting to crack" because "you astonish me" felt genuine, as if he couldn't grasp his mind around Valjean (because he never stopped believing he was Valjean in this version, imho) genuinely wanting to help someone, someone who could tarnish his good name as Madeleine - since that's the way society worked. And that's also what made him go to Madeleine and tell him about "Jean Valjean's arrest"
honestly the Valjean/Javert relationship and dynamic is good in this, and the characters really work for me in this version because they have the inner continuity. Because when you change the beginning, you have to keep them in line with that rather than trying to align them with the source material (even though they still need to arrive to the same ending).
is this like the book? Not really. Is it entertaining? Absolutely yes.
BBC!Javert will probably be on the same level as Malkovich!Javert for me. And if nothing goes wrong, BBC!Valjean will be my favourite Valjean.
Get to Know Better Tag
Thanks for tagging me, @blind-the-winds!
Rules: answer the questions and tag nine people you want to get to know better.
3 Ships: Caitlyn/Vi from Arcane. Leslie/Ben from Parks & Rec. Arya/Gendry from Game of Thrones. My biggest ships are my own OCs, but that’s for me to delve into in my WIPs. But basically I’m on board with any legit power couple that don’t have a toxic relationship with each other (so Joker/Harley are off the table for example, but I do have my own villain power couple that, with each other, have a healthy relationship, so they’re on the table.) As another note, Abed/Annie would be a runner-up to this list if they didn’t work better as best friends than they would as an actual couple.
First Ever Ship: Oof, I have no idea. I think I’m going to say Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith. I saw that movie when I was like 10 or 11 and it definitely shaped what I still think of when I think of what I want in a story. Peak action comedy. Great action. Great comedy. Great combination of the two. And the entire final sequence of the movie? As in everything post resolving differences and deciding to be an actual couple? *chef’s kiss* Surviving the ambush, leaning on outside friendships, the car chase, the stealth kills in the shopping center, and the final shootout where they’re perfectly in sync? Absolute perfection and you can probably definitely find ripples of that movie in all of my fictional couples.
Last Song: If we’re doing songs I listened to myself and not the Christmas music that’s been playing out loud in my home this morning, then “Best Friend” by Yelawolf ft. Eminem
Last Movie: Just watched Barbie: Rapunzel with the fam, so that. Speaking of which, I’m hyped for the live action Barbie movie. It’s going to be amazing
Currently Reading: Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson. Some of my friends recommended it to me (I’m actually reading their copy of it). I’m still near the beginning and it’s interesting, but very dense so far. Lots of world building right out of the gate, so it did take me about the entire first chapter to adjust to the speed I had to absorb new information at.
Currently Watching: So many things. My wife and I are watching a handful of shows together, but one show that I’m currently working my way through by myself is Better Call Saul, which I’m in the second season of. It’s been very enjoyable so far.
Currently Consuming: I’m thinking about having leftover chili fries for lunch. If not, then maybe some Ramen or something.
Currently Craving: Ice cream? It’s actually been awhile since I’ve had any. For me anyway. I used to have it way more often than the rate I’m currently eating it at, mainly for budget reasons. Hoping to return to consuming it at a higher rate soon though. Also, I could go for some Chinese takeout right about now.
Tagging: Anybody who wants to? I’m on mobile, so I don’t have an efficient way to find 9 accounts I want to tag without doing a lot of back and forth between pages and I’m hungry, lol
writing snippet #10
Villain’s fingers swept under their chin, palm of their hand pressing firmly against their chest. Hero was momentarily shocked. The power surging through their body stunned them, ripped the breath from their lungs, and left them useless.
And then the cold hit.
Entering Villain’s lair should have been an obvious indication. But Hero, in their cockiness, let it go right over their head — the unusual coldness, the way each breath of theirs would be accompanied by a cloud of mist, the way it had been so easy to get in.
A tidal wave of cold seemed to slam into them, encasing the last scrap of warmth their body had desperately clung onto. All Villain had to do was give a light push, and Hero was on their knees.
“What did you…” Hero squeaked, tightly wrapping their arms around their shuddering figure. They could feel ice cold chills biting against their skin, turning their extremities a harsh looking red colour against the contrast of their slowly paling face.
Villain stared down at them, lips pulled into a fascinated smirk. They didn’t see affected by the sudden burst of agonising cold.
“No need to be frightened,” they purred, head tilting to the side. “I didn’t give you enough to kill you just yet.”
Hero grappled at their chest. Their body sunk into the exterior of the floor, pained groan escaping their now blue lips. Their fingers twitched, frantically trying to grab onto the fabric of their shirt, but each movement was only hindered by the numbing sensation spreading through their body. Hero tried to move. They tried to fight it, imagined pushing through the pain and standing high on their feet to face Villain one on one.
But each movement was sluggish, as if they were wading through icy cold waters.
“Oh, g-god,” their teeth chattered relentlessly as they spoke. “What...did you do to me?”
The chill felt internal, like it was seeping into each of their organs, spreading through the hottest places of their body and dousing them out mercilessly like a fire. Hero shuddered, feeling completely helpless, cowering on the floor as Villain’s cold took advantage of them.
Villain only smiled, and disappeared behind them. If Hero could, they would have turned their head to follow them, but the cold seemed to ravage them with each movement.
“If you can make it to the door,” Villain announced, their voice distant. Hero groaned as another icy chill shot straight through them,” maybe I’ll consider letting you go.”
Actually, let's talk about Bruno
"I don't care what you think of me" on the surface level is a very pleasing line to hear from Bruno, especially since John Leguizamo did a great job delivering it with that grating, pent-up frustration and sadness we can all imagine he held toward his mother for so many years.
But delving into that deeper, I'm relieved they included that line since Bruno was still around to watch his name become taboo in the Madrigal household and see how his relatives put up their shields of pseudo-resentment and disdain in order to hide their true hurt and worry and regret at him leaving. I think Bruno was aware of their method of coping even as they became so vehemently opposed to speaking his name, but after long enough, he probably ended up wondering if they ever loved him in the first place, or if that love was purely replaced by resentment. (That's probably why he was so surprised when Alma and his siblings immediately hugged him and why he looked so hesitant revealing himself to them at the end of the movie.)
Not knowing if they loved him would've made coming home pretty hard. I honestly don't believe Bruno meant to leave for so long—10 years!—but it just became too hard to come back knowing that Alma would ask about his vision, and when—over time—it became impossible to tell if they wanted him back since they barely spoke of him.
I bet Alma was downright petrified by him leaving since she lost Pedro before, and slowly, over time, her fear turned to hurt. And when people are hurt, they end up saying things they don't mean, and their perception of a person long gone from their life can shift into something completely ridiculous ("seven-foot frame, rats along his back" kinda ridiculous). Alma's line, "Bruno didn't care about this family!" showcases this perfectly.
What makes Bruno such a satisfying character is that he has a very realistic span of emotion throughout the movie. He's not just played off as comic relief, but he does make the audience laugh with his personality and mannerisms. He gets his time to be silly, and it's clear he's self-aware of this because of his sarcasm in the line "My semi-real gift was acting." I really liked his sarcasm, since most animated characters characterized by a sarcastic sense of humor tend to be exaggerated (to a point that becomes unrealistic). But his smile and half–rolling his eyes and doing the air quotes made me instantly love him.
Tumblr media
Bruno is the pinnacle of a misunderstood, estranged relative. After "We Don't Talk About Bruno", with all those misconceptions from the town, and the exaggerations from his relatives, the icing on the cake is that it's revealed that he's just...a genuinely good person. Like, Disney has their pretty predictable twist villain trope but then the writers for Encanto whipped out the Uno reverse card, and I respect that.
Bruno chose isolation and estrangement to protect his niece. Can you imagine that being the breaking point? I feel like if I had his power and had to live with people treating me like I was responsible for a bad vision, or living in fear of me, I would've left sooner than Bruno did. But he didn't even end up leaving for himself, he did it for Mirabel.
However, even though he's kindhearted, that doesn't mean the writers didn't allow him to show some bitterness at how the town and his family perceived him and his gift. Deep down, there was a part of Bruno that did leave for himself, and I get that. I understand how it feels to be the black sheep of the family, so there was just something so damn satisfying about the lines where Bruno actually mentions it.
"Oh, he's creepy and his vision killed my goldfish." "But I knew what everyone would think because I'm Bruno and everyone always assumes the worst." And then with Alma, "I don't care what you think of me!"
Chef's kiss.
Thinking about how Shouto and Touya are perfect character foils for each other. The gifted child versus the one who's forgotten about has gotta be one of my favorite tropes in stories. Touya having his father's attention up until his own quirk turned against him and wanted to gain that attention back, and Shouto having always had the attention from his father despite never really wanting it. I'm just going to say, if it had been the other way around, I truly do believe that Shouto would've become a villain instead, and that's something Shouto even admits to. First, I wanna talk about how much I love the irony of the wants for their children of Rei and Endeavor in regards to Shouto and Touya.
Tumblr media
Rei wanted more children in order to encourage each other. In the end, the divided attention that was given only to the children who were deemed as possible successors and having that attention taken away, ended up being biggest Touya's downfall. Instead of siblings encouraging each other to do better, they were outright pitted against each other in the hopes of being seen as worthy. This can be seen in many instances, such as when Shouto was first brought home. At that time, Touya and the rest of the family didn't even know what Shouto's quirk would be, but Touya attacked Shouto anyway. Likely because at that time, his quirk had started to fail him, and he was so scared of getting tossed aside which seemed much worse to him than the abuse and self-harm he was put through in training. Another instance of this would be these panels.
Tumblr media
Here we have little Shouto wanting to play with his siblings, and I really think here that Touya was able to hear their conversation based on the next panel.
Tumblr media
Here he uses that same "we're in different worlds" phrase he heard his father say to Shouto because he so desperately wants it to be true of him too. He wants his father to recognize and love him so desperately that trying to train to improve himself is his only priority. (Just gotta put in here I'm so tempted to make a fanart of Dabi and Shouto in place of a Loki and Thor scene that I think would really work for them) As for Endeavor's wants, he wanted a child to have a fire and ice quirk in order to beat All Might and become the number one hero. Everything about this is ironic. All Might retiring and making Endeavor the number one hero basically makes Endeavor's goal obsolete because he's able to see that being the number one hero does not make you the symbol of peace (which I think being adored in the people's eyes was really what he was after, but that's a different post) Not only that, but Dabi's quirk is having incredibly powerful flames while his body was made to withstand freezing temperatures. That's *chefs kiss* perfect planning because the child that Endeavor so desperately wanted is at a disadvantage to his older child, and is at this point more focused on saving him than anything else. In the end, I really think that Shouto is going to be the one to have to save Dabi because he's the only one who can emphasize and understand him. There's too much hurt and suffering connected to Endeavor, and Dabi felt neglected by the other members of his family. He ties in a lot of these negative feelings with Shouto, but I think that once he's able to see how Endeavor is still prioritizing his hero duties over even his "perfect child"; he'll be able to understand that it was never him that was the problem. Shouto caring enough to put aside everything Dabi has done to save him/ possibly risk his life for him (without Endeavor being there) is going to be the thing that saves Dabi because all he ever wanted was to be Shouto's equal. If nobody else views him that way, at least he can see that Shouto does.
Logyn Meta: Loki & Sigyn’s Family in Myth and Marvel (Comparison)
Photo Source: https://www.deviantart.com/youkai-no-shimo/art/Colouring-LOKI-s-FAMILY-260392721
Tumblr media
The family that is ready to begin Ragnarok in order to defend your honor. It’s a tragic tale, but family is something worth fighting for!
Follow me as we explore this crazy, wonderful family that is probably the most famous of the Myth’s.
We may not know much about Sigyn’s side, but Loki’s side is one that legends are made of.
From the Norse Myths, to Marvel Comics and the MCU, we will see the similarities and differences for each member in the different universes as well as learn facts about each one and why they are important.
Tumblr media
Laufey (or Nál) - Loki’s Mother
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
She is Loki’s Mother in Mythology.
Mostly mentioned by the matronymic, “Loki Laufeyjarson” meaning: Loki Laufey’s Son.
Her name (Laufey) is typically thought to mean leaves/foilage. Nal means Needle.
Not much is known about her. We don’t even know if she was a Goddess, human or giant so it is assumed Loki gets his godhood from her.
In the poem Sörla þáttr, Nál and Laufey are portrayed as the same person: "She was both slender and weak, and for that reason she was called Nál [Needle]."
Laufey is listed among Ásynjar (goddesses) in one of the þulur, an ancestry that perhaps led her son Loki to be "enumerated among the Æsir", as Snorri Sturluson puts it in Gylfaginning.
Related to nature like forests and leaves.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Laufey is Loki’s Father in this universe.
As Loki was born small, a motive of embarrassment for his parents, his existence was kept a secret.
A younger Loki sends Laufey into a fateful battle between Odin, leading the All-Father to claim Loki as a son. Laufey was left for dead, wounded, but alive, leaving a future Loki to kill him.
A group of Frost Giants try to revive Laufey by retrieving his skull. It ends with Malekith performing a spell to resurrect King Laufey.
Laufey hates Loki and thinks of him as a disgrace
It ends with Loki killing his father again after he tries to steal the Casket of Winters and kill Frigga.
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE (MCU)
Same as Marvel Comics Counterpart. Appears in the first Thor movie.
Tumblr media
Fárbauti - Loki’s Father
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
He is Loki’s Father in Mythology.
Attested in the Prose Edda and in Kennings of Viking Age Skalds.
A Jotunn
The Old Norse name Fárbauti has been translated as 'dangerous striker','anger striker',or 'sudden-striker'.
Related to lightning
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Mother of Loki in this universe.
Gave birth to an unusually small child to the annoyance of her husband.
It is said the night Loki was born that she stabbed her own heart with an ice dagger, but Loki suspects Laufey is the one who killed her.
Appears as a figment taken on by a parasite. She’s mostly deceased in the comics.
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE (MCU)
Does not appear or have a reference in the MCU
Tumblr media
Loki Laufeyjarson - Son of Laufey & Farbauti. Lover of Sigyn & Angrboda (and many others honestly)
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Everyone already knows the tales about Loki, so I won’t repeat it all again. It’s pretty lengthy. I’ll just point down the basics for him with it.
He’s famous for causing trouble among the gods as the Trickster and God of Mischief. Not a bad guy, but misinterpreted that way, although he can be a dick too. Despite how much he causes trouble for them, he also helps them out of situations too. He just wants to have fun, even if he takes it overboard at times.
Some sources put as Jotun and some say he is Half-Jotun, Half-Aesir (on his mother’s side.)
A well-known Shapeshifter who can be anything: Salmon, Male, Female, Horse. The list just goes on.
A really handsome being who loved to get it on. *finger guns*
Blood Brother’s with Odin. How? We don’t know. It’s interpreted as a friendship or foster-brothers. It’s unclear really.
Gonna start Ragnarok for valid reasons honestly after having his entire family taken away from him or killed by the Gods. #TeamLoki
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Far too many appearances to document here from 1942 to present. There has been some retcons as well with the fact the current Loki has been reborn in a new incarnation also known as Ikol.
In the comics Loki is the adopted son of Odin and Frigga and Adoptive brother to Thor & Balder.
He’s depicted as being the God of Evil in the classic comics serval times. In fact, it’s one of his titles.
Depending on the writer for the classic comics, Loki can have moments of humanity, but all around he causes trouble.
Just wants to rule Asgard and get rid of Thor who is his enemy.
He’s honestly a bad guy most of the time in the classic comics #VillianTrope
I personally have yet to read any current comics of Loki that aren’t the classics so this is where my knowledge and research stops.
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE (MCU)
First off, Tom Hiddleston as Loki is just *chefs kiss* perfection.
Pretty much the same as comics except for the fact he isn’t really a villain. He plays tricks on people for fun and laughs and truly cares about his family.
However, things change when he discovers the truth that he is a Jotun and has been lied to about it his whole life despite being told countless stories of how Jotun’s are monsters to be slain (You fucked up a perfectly good kid, Odin. Look, he has anxiety and trauma.)
He develops major identity problems on top of others things, but despite it, Loki tries to still do best by his family as he wants to belong. Yes, he becomes a villain in The Avengers movie, but not for the hell of it. #Thanos
Honestly, he just deserves better. That’s where this leads. Thank you.
Tumblr media
Angrboda - Loki’s Consort/Lover (Fenrir, Jormungandr & Hel’s Mother)
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
She is only mentioned once in the Poetic Edda as the mother of Fenrir by Loki. The Prose Edda describes her as "a giantess in Jotunheim" and as the mother of three monsters: the wolf Fenrir, the Midgard serpent Jörmungand, and the ruler of the dead Hel.
A Jotun known as Mother of Monsters and Giantess of Ironwood.
In Old Norse, Angrboda means: 'the one who brings grief', 'she-who-offers-sorrow', or 'harm-bidder'.
According to scholars, the name Angrboða is probably a late invention dating from no earlier than the 12th century, although the tradition of the three monsters born of Loki and a jötunn may be of a higher age.
Some scholars say she was a very powerful witch and that she had the ability to see into the future. She was confined to Hel and would not be released from the realm of the dead until Loki was unbound.
In some versions of the Myth’s she knows her children will bring about the end of the world (Ragnarok) as well as being a witch set on fire three times before Loki eats her heart.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
A giantess of Jotunheim and a Witch.
Born to Elderspawn Vârcolac and Echidna.
She mated with Loki and gave birth to Fenrir and Jormungadr. Legends say she also gave birth to Hela, but it seems to be nothing more but legends.
Angrboda died of unknown causes and was sent to the Underworld of Hel.
When Thor needed to know how to get to Hela's realm because she had been taking mortals to Niffleheim, he went to the Hlidskjalf and summoned Angerboda from the underworld, forcing her to tell him how to get there. Once she revealed to Thor the path he had to follow, she tried to take him with her to the underworld.
Only has one appearance in the comics -- Thor #360 (1985)
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE (MCU)
Does not appear or have a reference in the MCU
Tumblr media
Sleipnir - Loki’s Son
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Attested in the Poetic and Prose Edda. In both Sleipnir is Odin's eight-legged steed and child of Loki by Svaðilfari. He is described as the best of all horses.
The Prose Edda contains extra information saying he is grey.
Old Norse meaning: Slippy or the Slipper.
Sleipnir is also mentioned in a riddle found in the 13th century legendary saga Hervarar saga ok Heiðreks, in the 13th-century legendary saga Völsunga saga as the ancestor of the horse Grani, and book I of Gesta Danorum, written in the 12th century by Saxo Grammaticus, contains an episode considered by many scholars to involve Sleipnir. Sleipnir is generally accepted as depicted on two 8th century Gotlandic image stones: the Tjängvide image stone and the Ardre VIII image stone.
Scholarly theories have been proposed regarding Sleipnir's potential connection to shamanic practices among the Norse pagans.
Sleipnir was born when Loki shape-shifted into a mare and became pregnant by the stallion of a giant, as is recounted in the tale of The Fortification of Asgard.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
There are two different origins for Sleipnir in the comics: 1. Thor fighting off an army of the undead on Midgard. He promised to help as long as his horses weren’t eaten, however, Thor was betrayed and took his horses remains back to Asgard, coupling it with Asgardian Magic to create Sleipneir. 2. Loki had hastily agreed to let a Frost Giant re-build the wall around Asgard, in exchange for the Moon, the Sun, and Freya, only he had to do it in six months. The Frost Giant had only asked to use his grey stallion, Svadilfari. Right as the last brick was about to be placed, Loki transformed into a beautiful white mare, and lured Svadilfari off. Loki later gave birth to Sleipnir. (Just like in the Myths.)
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE (MCU)
Odin’s eight-legged steed.
Sleipnir’s origins are unknown. He appears in the first Thor Movie.
Tumblr media
Fenrir Wolf - Loki & Angrboda’s Son
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Attested in the Prose and Poetic Edda as the first son of the Jotun couple. He is a wolf destined to kill Odin. So, they bind and seal him when he's still young, with Tyr losing his arm in the process. When Ragnarok comes, he indeed kills Odin, but is killed by Odin's son Vidar in return.
Fenrir is the father of the wolves Sköll and Hati Hróðvitnisson.
In the Prose Edda, additional information is given about Fenrir, including that, due to the gods' knowledge of prophecies foretelling great trouble from Fenrir and his rapid growth, the gods bound him, and as a result Fenrir bit off the right hand of the god Týr.
No chain can hold him, except for Gleipnir, a rope made by Dwarves containing the roots of a mountain, the breath of a fish, the sound of a cat's footfall, the sinews of a bear, the beard of a woman and the spittle of a bird, all of which were impossible items to obtain.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Pretty much the same as his Mythos with some additional storylines.
When Raganrok happened, Fenrir was reborn with the other gods on the New Asgard universe on Midgard. No details of his fate on Earth have been revealed.
Fenrir helped the mutant Wolfsbane as she was carrying the child of one of his descendants.
It is one of the few individuals believed to be more powerful, or equally as powerful, as Dormammu; the others being galactic entities like The Beyonder.
Fenrir is Genderfluid in the comics.
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE (MCU)
Fenris is a giant Asgardian Wolf who serves under Hela and is portrayed as Female. She resurrects her as they take over Asgard.
Instead of being her brother, Fenris is her loyal companion and mount.
Fenris ends up getting into a fight against Hulk as he pushes her off, sending her falling into the void below to her supposed death.
Appears in Thor: Ragnarok.
Tumblr media
Hel - Loki & Angrboda’s Daughter
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Attested in the Prose and Poetic Edda. She is a giantess/goddess who resides over the Underworld that is also called Hel, a place where many of the dead reside. She is the daughter of Loki and Angrboda, sister to Fenrir and Jormungandr and usually depicted as the youngest of the three.
Goddess of Death and Graves and ruler of Hel who welcomes the souls of those who died of old age, disease or by accident.
Hel is described as having been appointed by the god Odin as ruler of a realm of the same name, located in Niflheim.
The Prose Edda details that Hel rules over vast mansions with many servants in her underworld realm and plays a key role in the attempted resurrection of the god Baldr.
Old Norse Name Meaning: Hidden
She’s mostly mentioned only in passing. Snorri describes her appearance as being half-black, half-white, and with a perpetually grim and fierce expression on her face.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Renamed Hela in the comics.
Allegedly the daughter of Loki and Angrboda, but it’s never made clear or stated. Hela's genealogy is the subject of controversies and retellings.
Her path pretty much follows her Mythos where she is destined to do terrible things and Odin makes her the ruler over the dead in the realms of Hel and Niflheim until maturity.
At some point, she was considered the daughter of Odin and of a long-lost goddess.
Honestly, she usually tries to expand her powers, wanting to rule over Vahalla and obtain Asgardian souls.
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE (MCU):
Appears in Thor: Ragnarok as Odin’s firstborn and only daughter. Sister to Thor and Loki.
Kinda pissed her dad locked her away and wants to rule Asgard and take revenge.
The cause of Ragnarok and supposedly dies on Asgard after everything is said in done in the movie.
Tumblr media
Jormungandr - Loki & Angrboda’s Son
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Usually depicted as the middle child of Loki and Angrboda, he is known as the Midgard Serpent or World Serpent who is a giant snake. When Odin takes Loki’s kids away from him, he tosses Jormungadr into the ocean that encircles Midgard. The serpent grew so large that is was able to surround the Earth and grasp it’s own tail. When it releases it’s tail, Ragnarok will begin and he will fight his arch-enemy, Thor.
The major sources for myths about Jörmungandr are the Prose Edda, the skaldic poem Húsdrápa, and the Eddic poems Hymiskviða and Völuspá. Other sources include the early skaldic poem Ragnarsdrápa and kennings in other skaldic poems; for example, in Þórsdrápa, faðir lögseims, "father of the sea-thread", is used as a kenning for Loki. There are also several image stones depicting the story of Thor fishing for Jörmungandr.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Both Loki and Angerboda were descended from the Frost Giants of Jotunheim and were of humanoid appearance; however, the sons Angerboda bore Loki, Jormungand and the Fenris Wolf, did not. It has been suggested that Jormungand and the Fenris Wolf were born as sentient animals because their parents each had the magical ability to change his or her own shape. Hence, Jormungand and the Fenris Wolf each bear the form of the animal that their parents had assumed at the moment they were conceived.
Jormungandr follows the same as his Mythos to a certain degree with his fate to fight Thor during Ragnarok as the God of Thunder would die from his venom.
Sigyn - Loki’s Wife
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Sadly, not many stories that have Sigyn in them have survived to this day. She is only attested in the followings works: Poetic Edda & Prose Edda.
The most famous of her story tells of how Loki has been bound by the gods with the guts of his son, Nari, and how his son, Vari, has been turned into a wolf. The Goddess Skadi fastens a venomous snake over Loki’s face, from which venom drips. Sigyn, stated as Loki’s wife, stays by his side and holds a basin under and catches the venom so it won’t drip onto her husband, but when the basin grows full, she pulls it away to empty it, during which time venom drops onto Loki, causing him to wither so violently that earthquakes occur that shake the entire earth.
In the poem, Gylfaginning, Sigyn is introduced in Chapter 31 as being married to Loki and that they have a son by the name of “Narfi or Nari”. She is then mentioned again in Chapter 50 where events are described differently than in Lokasenna; Vali, described as a son of Loki only, is changed into a wolf by the gods and rips apart his brother, “Narfi or Nari.” The guts of Nari are then used to tie Loki to three stones, after which the guts turn to iron, and Skadi places a snake above Loki. Sigyn of course catches the venom in a bowl. This process is repeated until he breaks free, setting Ragnarok into motion.
In the poem, Skáldskaparmál, Sigyn is introduced as a goddess, an Æsir, where the gods are holding a feast for their visitors and in kennings for Loki: “husband of Sigyn” and “cargo [Loki] of incantation-fetter’s [Sigyn’s] arms.”
Old Norse Name meaning: Victory Girlfriend.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Lonely and looking for female companionship, Loki ends up coming across Sigyn and plans to make her his. However, she is already engaged to a warrior of Odin’s Crimson Hawks -- Theoric. Hence, Loki sets up a trap to have Theoric killed during a mission so Loki can disguise himself as Theoric. Once they are wed, Loki reveals himself and despite Odin attempting to annul the marriage (which goes against Asgardian Law)), Sigyn tells the Allfather that she will follow the duties of a loyal wife since she is Loki’s now.
This is when Odin proclaims her to be the Goddess of Fidelity. This was a thing first started by the Marvel Comics.
Sigyn doesn’t have much of an agency in the comics except being a loyal wife to Loki, sometimes going along with his plans or getting on him for it.
I personally haven’t been able to find any evidence of Sigyn’s parents being Iwaldi and Freya in the comics, so I’m not sure if this fact is Fanon or not.
Sigyn has suddenly seemed to vanish from the comics with her last official appearance being in 1996. It has been allueded at that she died or was killed during Ragnarok.
Her relationship with Loki in the comics is...complicated and changes a lot depending on the writer.
Narvi/Narfi & Vali - Loki & Sigyn’s Sons
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Not much is known about Narfi and Vali except for being Loki & Sigyn’s sons with Vali being transformed into a wolf by the gods and killing his brother whose inners are used as a chain to bind Loki in the cave.
Narfi and Vali are referred to in a number of sources. According to the Gylfaginning section of Snorri Sturluson's Prose Edda, he was also called Nari and was killed by his brother Váli, who was transformed into a wolf; in a prose passage at the end of the Eddic poem "Lokasenna", Váli became a wolf and his brother Nari was killed.
Snorri also names "Nari or Narfi" as the son of Loki and his wife Sigyn earlier in Gylfaginning, and lists "father of Nari" as a heiti for Loki in the Skáldskaparmál section of his work.
Narfi’s name could mean “Corpse” in Old Norse, relating to how he was killed by his brother.
There's no mention of what became of Vali after he became a wolf.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Narvi never makes an appearance in the comics and is only mentioned in: Free Comics Book Day Vol 2018 Avengers.
There is a Vali in the comics called Vali Halfling. He is the son of loki and a unnamed mortal woman. So, I don’t consider this to be the same Vali that is the son of Loki and Sigyn.
Thanks for reading everyone. This required a bunch of research, but I hope this helps and has been educational. We only have what we can work with considering the surviving myths, but there is so many stories out there that we don’t know of that aren’t clear because of it.
I tried my best to cover everything I knew about them in Marvel too, but sometimes so many retcons is too much to keep up with. I know there may be some errors in places, but it’s the best I could get this with what we have to work with.
If your wondering who are my favorite villains are here you go
Tumblr media
Ladies and gentlemen.. plasmius my favorite all time nick villain
Like come on you already knew this one. Plasmius has to be favorite nick villain, his powers and gentlemen attitude is perfect. Love this villain , the yin yang relationship with Danny is just wonderful to see in the show. Can we hang out . Eeeehhh Alright maybe a little but if your season three plasmius I’m out bro. Season one and two are welcome and maybe he can help me with chess cause I suck at it and maybe play with Maddie the cat.
Tumblr media
Spicer is precious okay. I don’t care how much he screamed he’s a king. Jack was a great villain and was a showoff but hey he awesome with his inventions and genius. I like wuya and chase young but nah jack takes my favorite villain crown in xialoiln showdown. Jack and I can hang out with ice cream I’m cool with it.
Tumblr media
Y’all the design of magica is just plain perfect for her, but can we hang out? Heck no girl you messed up my girl Lena up. Still your a great villain in my book, magica’s staff was pretty cool too, her shadow army was scary , her powers and animation was great I loved seeing her in action again in the reboot
Tumblr media
Why was father a great villain? , idk but dang did he make a performance of being a rich villain with his bratty children, man we got trolled when he was very angry that grandfather and just gave up like that WHAT?!. Anyways still a awesome villain to watch in knd, if I hang out with father I’ll be toasted like a marshmallow so no thanks
Tumblr media
Wow shego was a awesome villain, she could easily take over the world and they showed us she can. her glow was cool, her catchphrases like “ lesson time princess “ was great. But I can’t hang out with her, she would easily blast me with her power
Tumblr media
Yes Zerg put on those shades, cause you deserve them. The animated series of Zerg was funny and showed how evil he is. Can we hang , welllll he wants to take over the galaxy sooo no
Speaking of galaxy
Tumblr media
Wow she was a awesome villain, she really showed how destructive she was with her genius, I found it hilarious that lord hater liked her and tried to date her. I also loved her song a lot. I replayed it a lot of times and was jamming with it. Can’t hang out though , wants to destroy the galaxy
Tumblr media
Ladies and gentlemen… professor venomous
Venomous was a great character, no wonder why everyone loves this guy. Her genius, his actions, shadowy figure, and wanting to change but still be evil and take over the plaza. Yeah I would hang with him in his house and play video games with fink (this adorable gif though omg my heart)
Tumblr media
This scary villain black hat scares me but heck do I love his design , evil attitude and demonic expression like don’t tell me you’ll get nightmares from this dude, we can’t hang out he’ll try to destroy and scare me until I faint no thanks I’m good
Tumblr media
Mark hamil as joker is just “chefs kiss”. Joker scared me at first caus dud he’s a psycho but watching him more and more he became lovable, Harley was great too. Hanging out with him will get a huge smile and not the good kind, more like the scary way (geez the smile and laughter on his victims scared me like nightmare fuel)
THSR Designer’s Notes: Villain!
Alright, so this will be the first in a series of posts where I break down the design choices I made in my illustrated Frozen 3 fan-script, True Hans Soul Rebel. Link here if you haven’t read it: https://archiveofourown.org/works/27113293/chapters/66207733
I put a lot of thought into this, and I just want to show it off...
First up is the Villain!Hans look.
Tumblr media
At the start of THSR, Hans has fully embraced their role as a villain, to the point where they are trying a bit too hard with it. Obvious dastardly fashion choices are the black top hat, taken from Ratigan,  evil eye-shadow, and the black gloves, which invert Hans’ white gloves from Frozen 1.
Tumblr media
It’s a well analyzed aspect of Frozen’s design language that fitted gloves correspond to some kind of concealment or falseness - Elsa’s teal gloves, famously, being how she concealed her powers, and Hans’ white gloves allude to how he pretended to the pure “white” prince for Anna. With that in mind, the black gloves in THSR are meant to show the reverse - that Hans’ posturing as a cartoonish black-hearted villain is just as much a façade as the flawless hero was.
On the vein of color, something amazing I discovered is that Hans’ coat in the original movie - the one he wears when he is attacking Elsa - used the same colors as Elsa’s Ice Queen dress. Aqua-blue and cerulean, but muted and desaturated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Given everything Elsa’s dress represents about reclaiming deviancy, having Hans in mirrored coloring when he gives into his own strikes me as important to say the least. Furthermore, Hans’ version of the palette echoes the dark waves, the stormy sea, that took the sister’s parents. Chef’s kiss.
So, for the Villain!Hans look, I had to lean into that palette - applying different shades of that aqua-blue to the rest of their suit underneath - but tweaked the silhouette. The giant flared lapels of the long coat makes for a more classic villain look - lines pointing out and up the chest to project power  - and the long coat’s fabulous flowing tails echoe the cape of Elsa’s famous ice dress.
Here’s an earlier draft, when the coat was more cape-like.
Tumblr media
I did that before I saw clips from The Great Comet of 1812 musical and Anatole Kuragin.
Tumblr media
The minute I saw this coat, I had to steal it for Hans. And the characters have a kind of kinship to me, as subversions of the charming prince archetype. The coat is a bit out of date on Hans - Frozen is set in a fantasy 1830s-1840s (depending on who you ask). But if you are a villain, no longer bound by polite society, I think a shamelessly dated artifact like this would be a kind of chaotic power move on its own. Just rolling up, wearing giant 80s shoulder pads to a 00s party, because taste is for cops.
I suppose I should also talk about Villain!Hans’ hair -  since that is a pretty striking alteration from F1 - but it’s really more important to Marie’s design, if that makes sense. Hans has long hair because the character is about to be transitioned with magic HRT, and the plot will depend on her ability to pass as cisgender around the people who hate her former identity. But there are proper in-story character driven reasons for this change. The long hair shows passage of time - Hans has lived almost four years since we last saw them, and they’ve developed as a person as much as the rest of the Frozen cast has. Long hair also shows gender non-conformity on a man, and a kind of wildness - the reverse of the slick prince cut.
In all, the goal of this design was to give Hans a Queer Villain makeover.  Charismatic, over the top, something to strut around in while belting out a wicked banger you can taste the vintage Disney on. Honestly, I was a bit worried that this look might be too cool, since its destroyed after the first sequence.
But if you know what’s coming next, I really shouldn’t have been. Watch this space :)
Ignore this long rant I’m high as shit but I... can’t take the hero commission oR HONESTLY THE HEROES THEMSELVES, seriously anymore
They’re BRAINLESS they all share one (1) brain cell and it belonged to Crust. THESE GUYS had MONTHS to strategize this attack and what did they do? They fucked it up. They want me to believe this was planned and not written on a chalk board the night before? Sent out to all heroes the next morning at 8am in a CHAIN EMAIL?
Unpopular opinion(?): they sent the worst possible, ill-suited heroes to each location for this PLF raid and I’m mad at them for it and I’m mad at Hori for making me be mad at it even tho he had to do it beCauSe oF pLot but I’m mad.
The MLA’s plans to take on The League of Villains? Spotless. Chef’s kiss. The detail. The one-on-one counters they planned out. Accounting for each enemy’s quirk. Yeah there were like 6 of them to account for but?? Heroes, yall had enough info and enough time to think of ways to go about this raid and I’m supposed to believe that you did, BUT DID YOU REALLY? MONTHS TO PLAN, and saw one electric Sir Crocodile rip-off and immediately threw Kaminari on his ass. Good move. Kinda. But the rest of the PLF? Heroes just gonna make shit up as they go I guess??
To make myself feel better here’s a long ass useless rant on what could’ve damn happened and which heroes should’ve gone where and to make this an epic ass rumble. ugh. Even just doing some of these things would’ve made this arc (imo) feel more... convincing and delicious
under the cut tho bc damn this is too long
In this essay I will—
Edgeshot??? EDGESHOT??    EDGESHOT?? i’M GOING TO GO OFF.
I swear to shit Edgeshot could’ve soloed the hospital but they had him at the PLF mansion for Some Reason like... like they didn’t make him run up on the League’s bar instead of the Nomu factory bc they knew he would take care of shit immediately. Make it make sense. If he was at the hospital eye just—Nomu in the way?? Doctor running off? Say less. Electric slide all the way in there Shinya. DID NO ONE SEE HOW EASILY HE HANDLED KUROGIRI? Did everyone just forget this man can pull a K.O in .3 seconds flat? Heroes didn’t think it might be a good idea to have him there, ready to give Shigaraki the paper cut of his life the second he woke up (if he even did bc my mans likely could’ve prevented the ‘doctor getting away>high-end awaken>rush to get shiggy out of the tank>shiggy wakes up’ chain of events)? Didn’t think to send him instead of this guy X Less just sitting there with That Look on his face?
I get they needed heroes like Edgeshot at the mansion to take out a handful of enemies in one go but COME ON NOW. There were more than enough long-range AOE heroes there. And even if you don’t wanna believe he could solo then STILL, EDGESHOT DUOING WITH MIRUKO, ANYBODY? If anyone was gonna keep up with her happy ass zooming into the lab it could’ve been him. We were robbed of an Edgeshot/Miruko teamup and I’m not okay. Could’ve had a sexy ass panel of the hospital-team hyping up Miruko and Edgeshot as they dashed to Ujiko’s lab, two fast as shit bad bitches, zooming through these Nomu, absolutely obliterating them at lightning speed, watching each other’s backs too, PROBABLY SAVING MIRUKO FROM BECOMING THE PRE-DEATH ORGAN DONOR THAT SHE IS NOW. I know it was hot watching Miruko take on these high-ends but I’d have rather Edgeshot share the spotlight if it meant Miruko was in one piece rn. Hori played her
Anyways the literal dumb bitch energy that went into not sending Edgeshot to the hospital is sending me. Could’ve at least let him just be on the team and on standby while Shigaraki was waking up. With those sharp as shit reflexes of his we’ve seen? Shigaraki would’ve been out like a fucking light the second Edgeshot saw him sit up. X-Less you had a nice thicc upper lip that lip was too shaded for you to die, but F in the chat bitch. Useless plot fodder I’m sorry X-Less. There isn’t a hero there right now (besides Aizawa but like... idk, plot is nerfing him) that could’ve incapacitated Shiggy so quickly and prevented the mess they’re in now like my guy Edgeshot could’ve. Feels like a cop out
In conclusion: Edgeshot sweety I’m sorry they did this. I’m sorry you were nerfed. I’m sorry they didn’t let you deliver Kamino Pizza to this hospital. I’m sorry they ignored you and now everyone’s gonna die bc they didn’t they respect your Ninpo rights
CEMENTOSS??? y’all sent him to fuck up the mansion FOR WHAT??? If I were the hero commission and thought :
“Dang we need to completely ass blast this huge PLF resort to make room for our heroes to run in... but it would also be good if we had someone to do that at the hospital too just in case things get tricky and we need to pave a quick way to Ujiko’s secret hideout... but I’m single-celled and can’t weigh my options logically so ok. Cementoss, to the mansion.”
...................... Ok but can I in interest you in PIXIE BOB? I get the mansion is huge but going by the shit we’ve seen her do?? I’m not about to underestimate ol’ girl. I know she could’ve fucked that place up if they let her, switched her out for Cementoss, who could’ve made THE EASIEST route for the hospital team to get into the secret lab, trapped Ujiko, also trapped a couple nomu/high-ends in cement while he was at it, rearranged some tunnels for optimal tactical movement, probably could’ve done a decent-fucking-job at slowing the onslaught of Decay too if it got to that point (AND IT MIGHT NOT HAVE BC THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS RANT IS TO INSIST THAT A BETTER SELECTION OF HEROES WOULDN’T HAVE RESULTED IN SHIGGY’S CURRENT THANOS SNAP ORdEAL)
I know Pixie’s mostly on rescue operations and that’s what she’s doing at the hospital/surrounding city but WHY?? EVEN IF THEY REALLY NEEDED CEMENTOSS AT THE MANSION—WHY NOT HAVE PIXIE BOB DOING SOMETHING IN THE ACTUAL HOSPITAL BATTLE? JUST A LITTLE? The hospital is built on uh.. oh yeah... EARTH? And considering in the Forest Training arc she was using her quirk from a remote location (to make that Earth golem, or whatever) she wouldn’t even HAVE to be IN Ujiko’s lab to be useful
Can y’all PLEASE put at least ONE of your terraforming heroes at the place where y’all REALLY need them?? And not after-the-fact like y’all just did with Pixie Bob? Because clearly she didn’t do shit this last chapter trying to stop Decay. I’m sorry girl. You may be dead. Terrible.
I would have legitimately sent Snipe to get Ujiko before I sent Miruko and that’s that on that. Where is he even? He was there during the briefing but he’s gone? MIA? Idk. No way Ujiko is getting away from those bullets. Target locked: Ujiko’s hand. Fire. High-end Nomu remote goes bye bye. Then another bullet in the leg. No need to worry about him escaping and waking up high-ends/Shiggy when he doesn’t have kneecaps. Problem solved. No way it would’ve taken that long to break Shiggy’s tank either with a few well-placed pew pews zigging around some Nomu (not that we really wanna break him outta his tank bc look what happened). Snipe’s 6/5 technique stat deserves better!!!!!
Gang Orca did not go off and give a bunch of kids brain damage during the License arc to be so thoroughly ignored here. He’s clearly about to get his shit rocked by some gauged-out ex-Hot Topic employee in the next few chapters and ugh you’re TOO GOOD FOR THAT ORCA. COULD’VE BEEN OF USE AT THE HOSPITAL. PARALYZING SONIC WAVES? WE’LL TAKE IT. Who knows if any of the high-end Nomu would’ve been affected by paralysis but the small fry? Probably. Shiggy’s little twink ass? I would bet on it. Not that it would really stop him from using Decay but still
At the risk of sounding like someone I know who endorses child labor (the hero commission) here me out: CAN I GET A UHHH JUZO HONENUKI??? AGAIN YEAH good that he was at the mansion to do some long-range AOE action but if y’all are gonna force kids to join in on this war anyways, put your strongest and most useful ones at the place you need them. Shit it would’ve been real nice if Honenuki was there to trap some Nomu—uncertain if it would work against the high-ends that show some pretty flexible quirks but who knows—and even at the risk of reaching, maybe in some universe where Shiggy and Honenuki face off, it would be interesting to see Decay against Softening, since Decay’s one big weakness is that it can only work on solid objects sooOooOo? Idk. Would’ve been a cool match up but I hate that the kids are fighting anyways so we’re gonna ignore this Juzo rant. Just know it would’ve been cool
And as for the mess that’s going to be this fucking mansion soon... .. We’re just gonna ignore a whole ass Geten, big destructive power, big fucking threat, and not gonna throw Endeavor’s ass in there? Makes sense. They’re leaving it to Shoto I guess. They said time for you to fucking shine kid. Get in there. I mean really trading Endeavor for Edgeshot would’ve been top tier strategy but...
I MEAN THEY?? Made up a whole ass plan to counter ONE greasy-looking PLF guy by throwing Kaminari in there, but they couldn’t make up a plan to counter Geten? Are they just?? Pulling names out of a hat to see who gets to fight who? Did they spin a bottle to see who it landed on? Did Mt. Lady pull the short stick? I swear on shit when Geten starts going feral soon I’m not gonna feel sorry about it. Unless heroes got a plan and someone’s gonna make a sexy ass top 10 anime entrances to counter his ice then I’m disappointed. We went ape shit over Kaminari countering one of the commanders but are we not gonna get anymore ‘I’m your perfect counter and I’m here to stop you’ moments? No? I’M PISSED.
I would have also settled for my kween Nejire being there to blast away some ice because who tf else is gonna do it? But eh.
Dabi will also be trouble depending on what he decides to do. He only has about 3 good ideas a month and he’s used them all up by now so he’s in dumb slut territory as we speak. But you’d think that a villain as widely recognized as Dabi with such a destructive quirk would urge the heroes to have some plan to take him on but?? So far I don’t really see anyone quick to take on the role. Not that it’d be that hard bc he’s dangerous but also dangerously dumb. Where is Inasa. Maybe he can just blast the flames back in Dabi’s face. I love him but at this point he deserves to have some of his rights taken away
Don’t even get me start on Gigantomachia. I get the heroes had little choice except to attack before Shiggy was full-power but just?? NOT having a plan in case by some little chance Gigantomachia DID wake up? You stupid bastards. You absolute fools. I guess there’s not much you CAN do but FUCK y’all just gonna let him SIT THERE? No counter measures? No ‘Let’s execute this incredibly thorough and thought-out plan we’ve spent months formulating to restrain Gigantomachia in case he does end up waking up, because better safe than sorry’? When he tramples like 50 students I bet that shit gonna hurt
I hate it all. I was really happy about seeing Shiggy go off 272 bc he’s a king but after rereading from like, 258 I feel... weird. Maybe this will be resolved with more chapters but. eh. Now that I’ve thought of this, I can’t go back. I miss the brain power that was behind the MLA fight
Okay now I’m going to say things I liked about it- Part 1
Rise of the Titans Spoilers
I loved the animation it was so stunning. amazing. Show stopping.
I LOVED the titan vs titan fights they were amazing to watch
the world building as well was amazing I loved how they kind of had an opposite troll market that was for a dragon that was really cool. the other world building as well was really good
there were a lot of comedic moments and that was fun
I love that Jim had to learn how to be a hero without the amulet and how he wasn’t just portrayed as useless without it, he was shown to still be able to lead ,he struggled and was vulnerable but he also tried his best. I also love how he could only wield excalibur with the support of his fiends and that it shows that he isnt in the fight alone and the burden isn’t his alone. Him wielding Excalibur in general was just Chef’s kiss
I also loved his new suit and how Aja and Krel were able to fix his amulet it was great. and I loved how it changed to the “ for good of all” it shows what being a real troll hunter was all about
I loved how powerful Claire and Douxie were as wizards. the both get so much development in their powers and are able to control their magic a lot more
Jlaire moment were great in this too. Jim and Claire are really ride or die for each other and I love that about them.
The entire train scene at the beginning was amazing to watch and i really enjoyed it.
I lovve Krel’s invention and how it can stop magic and I love that they brought it back in the end. plot consistency is great.
The arcane Order as villains was great they were terrifying and just amazing villains in general. I love how they are ice, fire, and earth that was really cool. the idea of the titans was also really cool
