Villisca Axe Murder House
Past midnight on June 10, 1912 a horrific crime was committed that remains unsolved today. Villisca, Iowa at the turn of the century was the typical peaceful American small town.
June 9th was a Sunday and Josiah “Joe” Moore a Villisca businessman accompanied his wife, Sarah, and their 4 children, Herman 10, Katherine 10, Boyd 7, and Paul 5 to the local Presbyterian churches’ Children’s Day service. The Moore children among other Sunday school attendees performed speeches and recitations.
Tumblr media
It was a special night made more exciting by the fact that two neighbor children, Lena 12 and Ina Stillinger 8 attended with the family and were given permission to go home with the Moore children for a sleep over.
The church service ended around 9:30 p.m. and the Moore’s and their 2 guests walked home. The children were treated to milk and cookies and then put to bed for the night.
The church service was the last time these 8 people were seen alive. Even today not all the facts are known including who committed the murders. Tragically, sometime between midnight and the early morning hours each person sleeping in the Moore house was brutally murdered.
Two cigarette buttes where found in the home’s attic so it is speculated that the murderer or murderers waited in this room until the family returned and settled in for the night.
The following morning an elderly neighbor, Mary Peckham became concerned when at 7:30 a.m. the Moore house was unusually quiet and deserted. Joe’s brother Ross arrived and spotted two figures in the back bedroom covered with a sheet–he also saw blood.
The town’s Marshall, Hank Horton was sent for and he announced that there was “somebody murdered in every bed.” The murder weapon an axe that had been partially wiped clean was found leaning against the wall in the back downstairs bedroom.
Horton had found the two Moore adults and the six children all in bed, they were covered with bedclothes. Each of their skulls had been bludgeoned 20 to 30 times with the blunt end of the axe.

The Reverend Lyn George Jackline Kelly was tried and acquitted twice for the murders of the Moore family and the Stillinger girls.
In the early morning following the murders he boarded a train in Villisca headed westbound. He allegedly told his fellow travelers that there were 8 dead souls back in Villisca–butchered in their beds as they slept. At the time he made this statement the bodies had not yet been found.
Kelly had arrived in Villisca for the first time on the Sunday morning of the murders. He had attended the Sunday school performance given by the children. Two weeks later he arrived in Villisca again. He posed as a detective and joined a tour of the murder house with a group of investigators.
The authorities initially became interested in him several weeks later after being alerted by several people who had received “rambling letters” from him.
Kelly was the son and grandson of English ministers. He suffered a mental breakdown while still in adolescence. After immigrating to America he had preached at several Methodist churches across the Midwest.
At the time of the Villisca murders he was preaching in several small Iowa towns just north of Villisca. He had developed a reputation for “odd behavior.” He had been convicted of sending obscene material through the mail and had been committed to a mental hospital for a time.
In August, two months after the murders Kelly signed a confession to the murders. He stated God had whispered to him “suffer the children to come until me.”
During his trail Kelly recanted his confession–eleven of the twelve jurors acquitted him. A second jury was convened and Kelly was acquitted again in November.
Several bizarre items where left at the murder scene. The first was a 4-pound piece of bacon that was found propped against the wall next to the axe.
The murderer had taken items from the bedroom dressers and covered all the mirrors in the home. He also covered the entry doors. He left a plate of uneaten food on the kitchen table along with a bowl of water stained with blood.
Some speculate that the murders were actually done by a serial killer. At the time of the Villisca murders over the course of two years from 1911 to 1912 at least 20 other people had been bludgeoned to death with an axe across the Midwest–none of these crimes were ever solved.

VILLISCA AXE MURDER HOUSE
꒦꒷ ͝ ꒦ ͝ ꒷꒦ ͝ ꒷ ͝ ꒦ ͝ ꒷🩸꒦ ͝ ꒷ ͝ ꒦ ͝ ꒷꒦ ͝ ꒷꒦ ͝ ꒦
508 E 2nd Street Villisca, IA 50864
The house where 8 were brutally murdered with an axe
Many visitors of the house, including paranormal investigators have claimed it is haunted.
In 1912, eight people were found murdered here, six of whom were children. They were bludgeoned with an axe, and nobody ever found the killer. The murders remain a mystery to this day, which may explain why so many people have reported various sightings and encounters with ghosts. Maybe the ghost can not rest until the murderer is identified. You can rent out the house for the night.
In 2014, a ghost hunter who rented the house ended up stabbing himself in the chest after spending the night here.
The price for an overnight visit is a minimum of $428.00 (includes sales tax) which allows for 1 to 6 guests.

Villisca Axe Murder House
❥ Back to the Control Center
❥ Nate Hardy Masterlist
━─━────༺✧༻────━─━
Nate Hardy x fem!medium(?) reader
Summary: You decide to test yourself with this investigation of the place of the gruesome octuple murders... you've yet to deside if that was a horrible idea yet.
Word Count: 5.2k
Warnings: gore, murder, child murder, hauntings, language, probably an inaccurate spirit box session, inconsistent capitalization, my usual grammar warning, and for this fic in particular, I recomend you watch the video before to brush up on your knowlege of what this video exactly was. I will be mentioning some of the research and background, but I will not be going into detail and will be skiping most of the info sections. This is because, due to the sensitivity of this particular haunting and the details surrounding it, it didn't feel right to add it here in this way.
Dialogue Key:
Y/N
Nate
Sam
Colby

It was dark by the time the boys realized they hadn't made the intro to their video yet. So, even though it would have to go about 15 minutes into the video, they decided to record their usual greeting by the wooden sign for tonight's location.
"What's up guys, it's Sam and Colby"
"Tonight we are at one of the most, spooky, haunted houses in the United States, the Villisca Axe murder house"
Sam stepped behind the camera, showing the two guests fade in from the dark behind the sign, "Today we got Nate, Seth," he spins around to where you were, still messing with the car. Not too long ago, you all got pulled over for a light being out, just to find out the light was fine.
You stepped forward when you heard your blonde friend, waving both hands at the camera with a wide smile.
"and Y/N!"
You stepped further - abandoning the weird occurrence with the car, slightly irritated about the ticket you got for what seems to be, no reason - and join the group instead.
"Right now we start a night alone, in this house. We are about to tell you, guys, one of the most insane murder mysteries I've ever heard of."
━─━────༺✧༻────━─━
Usually, haunted places didn't have the best energy surrounding them, but that was hardly unusual. The difference between this house and the others was the sheer intensity of the feeling. When entering a location, you usually could tell it was haunted due to the emotions you picked up on.
First of all, there would be way too many, feeling as if you were in a crowded street rather than an empty house.
Secondly, no matter what feeling there was - of a spirit or a residual haunting - there was a layer of grief, sadness, or pain floating above it all. It was hard to explain, but it was almost as if no matter the emotion you picked up on, there was a layer over top of it, a veil of anguish covering all.
This house, felt as if you entered an ice bath.
It was intense and strong, the light feeling that you'd come to associate with the dead surging up through your veins in intense amounts. The coldness of the spiritual atmosphere so extreme, it caused a physical chill to rise through your bones. The change from so drastic, You almost stumbled walking through the door.
Nate noticed. he knew all your quirks by now, and the shiver that racked your body the moment you entered took him by surprise. The shock, quickly vanished when he realized that whatever the intensity he felt in the house, you felt a hundred times over.
He moved to stand behind you, slipping off his jacket and draping it over your form. He couldn't tell if you were cold, if it was the shift, or both, but he hoped that it would give you a sense of comfort no matter what.
You jumped a little when he did so, startled out of the light trance you fell in, trying to pinpoint exactly where in the house the feelings originated. You turned, smiling up at him as you pulled the jacket tighter around yourself.
Unlike the boys, this was your first time in the house. you'd opted out of the tours earlier that day, having a sudden urge to stay out of the home... only wanting to stay in there for as little as you had to.
You were able to brush it off easily, Sam and Colby were so interested in your "gifts" that they quickly agreed when you told them the reason you didn't want to go with them on the tour was so you could test your abilities later, seeing if you could figure it out with no prior knowledge.
Soon, all the boys had entered the room, including Colby who was currently operating the camera.
"So Y/N" Sam spoke, rubbing his hands together with a slight smile on his face, "What do ya' think so far?"
"Well," you sighed, bouncing slightly on the balls of your feet, using it as a way to release the feeling of the excess energies surrounding you, "It's a very strong feeling, not like anything I've ever felt before." your eyebrows crinkled slightly, trying to figure out the best way to explain it exactly. "You know when like, you have an overload of feelings? and you can't tell if you are angry or sad or upset?" the boys all nodded. "it's like that, but heavier and darker, it's almost suffocating if I'm honest." you laughed off the last bit, hoping to dispel the intense looks from the other boys.
"Yeah, that makes sense." Colby nodded, "The house is known to have a particularly dark feeling associated with it."
"Yeah, yeah, I could even feel it when we were just doing the tour earlier," Seth added.
Sam, meanwhile, just looked incredibly excited about the whole endeavor. As previously explained, he was probably the most interested in your abilities and was excited whenever something happened with them. "Well, in that case anywhere you think we should check out?"
You laughed softly, "Well, I don't really know anything about the layout of the home or which room is which," you trailed off walking across the room and toward a doorway, approaching the stairs, "but I'm thinking upstairs? I don't know, it seems to be stronger? I guess? the closer I get to them."
You were still facing the stairs, so you'd yet to see the wide-eyed looks from all the boys-- well, all save for Nate. He'd gotten used to it spending more time with you and knew how good you were at figuring things like this out. So, while all the boys looked surprised he just stood there, looking incredibly smug and proud.
"I don't know" you shrugged, always one to doubt things like this. After all, it could just be your nerves tainting whatever you thought you were sensing, "I could be wrong though."
"No, no you're right" Sam rushed excitedly, looking at the door, "The killer would've come in here" he walked over standing beside you, "and would've immediately gone up these steps."
━─━────༺✧༻────━─━
It was clear after a bit more information was revealed to you why Nate was acting so strange in this house, and it was all because of one particular suspect who was said to be around the house, Reverend Kelly.
Usually, while the boys were talking about the facts and explaining details to the viewers, you would be able to wander a little. You couldn't see or hear spirits speak like other mediums, but you were able to pick up on emotions.
So, you would take this little bit of time to follow these emotions around the house until you found the specific spot they came from. You'd also use your knowledge of such emotions and energies to help the boys with where to investigate first, and where to steer clear from. However, it didn't seem like you would be doing that tonight.
You tried to walk off almost immediately after you'd gained your bearings from the initial energy shift, trying to walk up the stairs as Sam continues to explain the story in the first room of the house. You were quickly stopped by Nate, who just shook his head as he pulled you closer to him, wrapping his arms around you from behind, chest pressed against your back as you both faced Sam.
You looked upward, eyebrows furrowed in confusion, "What are you doing?" you whispered, "I was just going to go check things out" You cut yourself off when you saw the grimace on his face, "Is something wrong?"
He would've explained it all to you then since you hadn't heard earlier, but he decided against it, knowing that they'd get to it when they were upstairs in the kid's room. The explanation there would be a million times better than whatever quick filler he could give to you then while Sam was explaining the main story of the home. So instead, he simply shook his head, "You'll hear about it later."
And hear about it later you did. When the group migrated upstairs, you understood perfectly.
It all made sense why Nate wanted to keep you in his sights at all times, why he always seemed to be hugging you from behind, or wrapping his arm around your shoulders.
The Reverend was far from holy and was one of the most corrupt ministers you'd ever had the displeasure of learning about. To sum it up, he had a love for women and a history of doing anything to quench his lust.
You, just so happened to be the only woman in the house.
If it was even possible, your stomach dropped further than it already was and you felt sicker than you already had.
━─━────༺✧༻────━─━
A few minutes later, the summary tour for the viewers was over and you all gathered in a room to begin the investigation, the EMF pump turned on and equipment ready to go.
The spirits seemed ready to communicate as well, seeing as things started going off before the camera was ever rolling. Namely, the toy you all found in the laundry basket and the cat ball placed in the closet.
"Can I request something insane for later?" you asked, watching as each piece of equipment by the closet seemed to go off, "Can we try the Estes method in the closet later tonight?"
Everyone turned, all the boys looking at you like you were crazy.
"Yeah... I don't know about that-" Colby spoke up, apprehension clear in his voice as Sam and Seth nodded along.
"We were just talking about how dangerous that closet has been" Nate chimed in cutting off the others.
"Well to be fair... that was because they admitted they were trying to provoke it" you shrugged, "who knows, we might get something good. especially since it seems to be pretty active in the past."
Nate looked wary, his lips pulled in a tight wince unsure of what to say, "I don't know..."
"I mean I'll do it" you spoke nonchalantly looking at the rest of the boys, "Just thought it may be a good idea."
Then the cat ball in the closet went off.
"Looks like they agree" Colby laughed unsure of the situation, and quite frankly a little freaked out. The cat balls usually didn't go off at all, but they seemed to be going off constantly here and they barely even started.
Then the REM pod in the doorway also started going off.
"It's pointing toward the ball" Colby shouted, quickly whipping the camera back and forth, showing the clear path the equipment was starting to make.
You were beginning to regret offering to sit in that closet, senses diluted, and in the dark for that Estes session later.
"Should we put it in the closet-" Sam began to ask, stopping himself short and looking back at all of you with wide eyes, "it just changed directions"
"Do you think it wants us to follow it?"
Sam moved to make a step toward the device and it immediately stopped.
"Dude it stopped as soon as you said it" Seth spoke, equal parts excitement and astonishment in his voice.
Nate just stood there, smiling in disbelief and rubbing his forehead with one arm as the other was wrapped tightly around your waist. his grip tightened slightly each time a piece of equipment went off.
"Oh my god! It wants us to go upstairs!" Sam yelled, realisation strung across his features, "Johnny literally said-"
"Right now?"
"Johny said that 90% of the activity happens upstairs."
"You said do you want us to follow it..."
"That's the only time it left the room," you spoke over the boys dragging Nate behind you as you approached the doorway, "it's telling us to follow it, so I think we should go while it wants to talk to us."
"If there's something here, we're goin"
"We're listening"
You led the group, Sam and Colby tailing the back.
You made your way up the stairs, no real destination in your mind other than 'up'. At the sight of a room not that far ahead, your first thought was to go there... until you felt something guiding you elsewhere.
You tilted your head, pivoting slightly away from that room and walking further down the hall. The air felt more electric here and it only seemed to get stronger the more you progressed down the hall. You recoiled at a sharp chill that went down your spine.
This room. This is the one to go to next.
You turned, facing Nate outside the room, cutting him off before he could ask the question you already knew he would ask, "I'm fine, just a weird feeling" you shrugged off, "Anyway, what's this room? Is it important?"
He was smirking when he realized where you'd lead them, "Are you sure you didn't do any research before?" He walked past you, entering the unfinished room, "Babe this is the attic"
He spoke with so much emphasis and with so little explanation you swore he was making fun of you. Like, 'Oh wow, of all the places in the haunted murder building you brought us to the attic, not you know, the place of the crime.'
Which you totally understood. You weren't quite sure why it felt so weird in the attic either. Maybe it was because it was an older house and falling through a modern home's attic was a legitimate possibility.
You crossed your arms over your chest in irritation, adding in a dramatic eye roll for effect as your boyfriend continued to hop around the unfurnished room. "Yeah, I see that Nate. The lack of real walls and crummy floors really sell that. Come on, let's just go to one of the rooms or something-"
"No, babe" he moved forward, grabbing your arm and pulling you into the attic space, "This is where they think the killer was hiding."
Colby entered the attic after the two of you, the rest of the group being slightly behind the two of you. The tree of you searching the space with the help of your phone's flashlights while Sam and Seth set up the equipment on the landing.
You had ventured to a further back part of the attic when Sam called from outside the door, the faint sound of the REM pod accompanied his words "Yo guys!"
Nate and Colby were closer to the door and entered the hall quicker than you could from the back.
Sam saw you coming toward the door to leave but motioned for you to wait a minute gesturing down at the music box, which was facing into the attic. You understood immediately, stepping to the side out of the range of the doorway.
You were still pretty far back in the attic and it would take you a second to reach the door. It needed to be tested now, and it would be much easier to test if a spirit was actually messing with the equipment if you didn't run the risk of accidentally setting it off or decalibrating the device as you exited the room.
As soon as the music box was turned on the music began to play alongside the REM pod.
"It's pointing to the attic!" Colby exclaimed, showing the bright green light facing the doorway through the camera.
"The theory he could've been in the attic" Seth rushed with wide eyes.
Nate looked toward the camera to elaborate, voice raised a little to make sure you could also hear the information from the other side of the wall, "So this is one of the areas the killer might have been hiding. It's either here or the barn."
"If the killer was in the attic can you make one of these devices stop?"
The two devices dwindled, both completely stopping after a few minutes.
You didn't hear any of the conversations, only being able to make out a few muffled words from where you stood to make sure you didn't accidentally trigger the device. The only thing you heard clearly was Nate explaining what he'd already told you.
But, at the same time that Sam had asked for the spirit to turn off the devices if he was in the attic, you started hearing a different form of communication. A steady series of knocks on the wood panel behind your head.
If you'd known any better, you would've realized the pattern in which the taps came. four, one, three, one. over and over.
Which, just so happened to be the series for the word 'here' in Morse code.
It was after you heard the faint noise of the equipment stop that you spoke up. "C-can I come out now?"
"Yeah, sorry about that Y/N"
Nate stuck his head in the doorway, sticking out his arm to help you out. It took him all of half a second to recognize the slight panic on your face and the white-knuckled grip you held on the sleeves of his jacket- which you still wore. "You alright?"
"Uh" you spoke louder so everyone could hear, "I don't really know what you guys were talking about, but there was some pretty constant- uh- knocking in there..."
"Oh my god- you're joking-"
"No shot"
"Are you serious"
You simply nodded, glancing between the four of them until Sam decided to fill you in, "Y/N... we just asked it if the killer was in the attic."
━─━────༺✧༻────━─━
For the next several minutes, you and the boys tried to come up with reasonable explanations for the equipment to be going off like it had been.
After confirming that there was no way to debunk it, the group concluded that the equipment was guiding you all on a tour, retracing the steps the killer made.
At least, until you made it to the kid's bedroom, where none of the equipment was going off at all.
Colby turned to the REM pod placed on one of the beds, "Do you want us to leave?"
and for the first time in that room, a piece of equipment went off.
Sam stood staring at the device, "And look where it's pointing"
"Outside."
None of you freaked out, all of you were shocked into silence. Five minutes of trying to communicate in this room, and it only went off when you mentioned leaving.
Sam moved to collect the equipment when Seth spoke up, "I really think we should do something in the attic"
You nodded, pointing at him, "Yeah, yeah I definitely agree"
"if the killer was waiting in the attic, he was waiting there for a long time. If this activity is residual, he's bound to still have an imprint in the attic. What if we can talk to him via a spirit box or something?"
"Yeah," Nate nodded along, "Plus that's the first place Y/N went to"
"It feels very static-y in there if that makes any sense" you added, "I don't know how to really explain it. I agree with Seth though, if we're going to get anything else tonight, I have a really good feeling it's going to be in the attic."
━─━────༺✧༻────━─━
Colby was the first to go under.
The minute he put the headphones on, a noise came from downstairs. One which sounded like the front door slowly swinging open.
Your head whipped up, wide eyes flicking between the others. You didn't have to ask, their own wide eyes answered just fine, but you couldn't stop the words from leaving your mouth, "Did you hear that..?"
Your boyfriend nodded, reaching to you next to him and grabbing one of your knees, which had begun to shake. "What is that?"
"Is someone here?"
"If you're here, can you make yourself known?"
Silence.
"We have the geophone-"
"Mystery"
"If anyone"
"Is here"
"Oh, it sounds like-" Sam tried to speak, constantly being cut off by Colby, speaking on behalf of the spirit box, "it sounds like two people talking to each other"
"Family"
"Yeah, it's sounding like a conversation"
"Me"
"Record that"
The four of you shot up at that.
"No way" you whispered
"We're not even asking any questions" Sam uttered in pure disbelief, "are we talking to anybody in specific?"
"Watching"
"Are you watching us?"
"One flight"
"One flight of stairs?"
"Now"
"Do you want us to go downstairs?"
"Fired"
[Cutting out this portion because... well... above disclaimer. If you watched the video you probably know what this is, it just feels wrong to add and makes me sick to think about.]
"End this"
"I don't know what you're talking about-"
"Is he with you?"
"Is who with me?"
"Me"
A door slammed downstairs, shocking you to the point that you would've fallen from your chair if Nate hadn't grabbed you.
Seth jumped as well, hitting Colby to get him out of the trance and fill him in on what was going on.
"What?" Colby repeated over and over, his friends were all freaking out, and he had no clue what was going on.
"The door slammed" you breathed out.
"What?" he exclaimed, looking between all of you, "What door?"
"I don't know" Sam panicked, "the one downstairs, It's on camera, I actually don't know."
"It could've been the front door?" you guessed
"No." Colby shot down, shaking his head, "Nah, I closed that one."
Sam and Nate went down to investigate and figure out what could've caused the slam, you, Seth, and Colby staying up in the attic.
[ Also cutting this, nothing special, just pretend reader was just sitting along for the ride when Seth and Colby heard the stuff on the stairs. We're cutting to when they all go downstairs to the last room and Colby goes back to the estes method. ]
You shivered, arms wrapping around yourself as you rock back and forth, "I don't like this room" you stated, "like I genuinely feel like I'm going to be sick in here-"
"That's about right"
"Sweet." you huffed, "Fucking love that."
"I think it was right here"
"No way!"
"What? You're kidding"
"Cold"
"You think what was right here?"
"Please"
"Explain what was right here"
"You walk away"
The second Colby finished the sentence, the REM pod began to go off, pointing out the door.
Your eyes widened, "Do you think the spirit was telling a different spirit to leave?" you looked quickly between the boys, "And thats why the REM pod is going off and pointing away, out the door?"
Seth nodded slowly, "Yeah... yeah that's definately a possibility."
"Who's talking to us right now?" Sam rushed, "Who are you? Can you give us a name? Anything a sign?"
"You said you think he was here, who is he?"
"That would be able to get away with it"
Colby yelled, that was one of the longest and most clear sentences any of you had ever gotten. Even crazier was how much sense it made for the conversation the rest of you were having.
"Who would be the guy that would be able to get away with it?" Sam pushed, stepping closer to Colby just to get cut off by said man.
"Lies"
"Screaming"
"Trust me"
"Give us a name-" Sam insisted.
"Please give us a name"
"-He said... who would be the person who could get away with it?"
"Remember"
"We're remembering" Seth added, voice calm as he could manage, "we remember you."
"Do we know this name?"
"Do we already know who you are?" you spoke up, "Are you telling us to remember because we already know?" you had a sneaking suspicion of what was coming through, and you really hoped it was wrong.
Otherwise, you're really beginning to regret volunteering to do the method in the closet.
"That's the reason why"
"What's the reason why? What was the reason for these murders?"
"Train"
"Were you on the train?"
"Implications of..."
"Implications of the train?" Sam spoke, eyebrows furrowed in confusion, in the end deciding just to ignore that for now. "Who are we speaking with?"
"yes please tell us who you are."
"You know"
"no, we don't" Sam insisted.
"I-" you began, only for Colby to interrupt.
"You know"
"I think..." you whispered, waiting for Colby to interrupt you again. when he didn't, you continued, "I think I know."
"Good job"
"Oh my god-"
"I think it's-"
"No, no"
"Mk" you spoke, fake cheeriness dripping from your tone to hide the discomfort flooding your body, "That's cool. I'm not gonna say it then."
"Paul Miller" Sam spoke, trying to solve it instead, "was he the murderer?"
"Impossible"
"Was it the Reverend George Kelly or was it something-"
"Kill me"
"He was going"
"How would you feel if we took off the cover to the mirror?"
"This one?"
"Yes this mirror"
"We can"
Sam stepped forward, a hand on the sheet to pull it off, "Ok were going to."
"Run"
"I had to run"
"You had to leave the scene of the crime?"
"No choice"
"It was worth it"
"That gave me chills" you spoke, shock rendering you almost breathless at this point
"What was worth it? The murders?
"Who are you?"
"You know"
The session started to run on the lengthy side, so to be safe, you pulled Colby out to converse.
"Did any of that make sense?"
"Yes, you kept saying 'you know him' and you kept saying stuff about railroads and trains."
"Speaking of 'you know him'" Seth began, turning to face you, "what were you thinking?"
"Oh right!" Sam exclaimed, "You said you had an idea of who it was but Colby kept cutting you off" he reiterated for the viewers as well as the man who hadn't been able to experience half of the conversation.
You looked up between all of them from where you sat on the bed, shrinking in on yourself a little, "I just-" you stuttered, "I just have a really good feeling it's Kelly."
"That would make sense why he kept saying no" Nate spoke, "he was a reverend and was probably ashamed of his sins for doing it. Yeah, he was cryptic as hell when he left and ended up confessing to it all, but he was still a preacher... maybe that's why he was saying 'you know' but never actually wanting you to say it out loud."
━─━────༺✧༻────━─━
Next, was the part that you had slowly begun to get less and less excited for as the night went on. Now it was your turn to do the Estes method, sitting criss-cross on the floor of the closet.
"This is your last chance-"
"Put out the lamp"
"Do you want us to turn out the light?"
"He's here"
"Who's here?"
Nate thought back, remembering all the times you'd offhand mentioned something to him though the night, and that was that you thought it was playing tricks on you all. It enjoyed how your group would follow it aimlessly through the home and freak out when it set things off, you felt like it was watching you, messing with you, and playing sick a game of tag with you all. So, he decided to ask the question you'd been secretly asking all night long.
"Are you messing with us?"
"Thanks for being here"
"It's fucking with us."
"All over"
"All over the house?"
"Mhm"
Sam jumped, "The cat ball!" he yelled pointing to the closet, "The catball behind her just went off"
You're head popped up and you shook your head a bit, "That wasn't funny at all." you rushed, the boys all began freaking out, thinking the box was saying that when you spoke again "This isn't the box by the way- but I swear to god Nate if you pull my hair again while I'm doing this shit, I'm breaking up with you."
The boys really began freaking out then. All were at least 3 feet from you at the time.
"You'll see why I'm so excited"
"Oh my god" Sam yelled, "It never says full sentences like that-"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah! And to have so many all in the same night?"
You pulled the jacket tighter around yourself, "It's so fucking cold" you muttered.
"Wait-" Nate gasped, "there was something-" he turned to the closet, "are you behind her?"
"Behind"
"Did you commit these murders because you were a pervert?"
you ground your teeth, "Nate I swear to fucking god" you hissed, "don't pull my hair-" your back quickly straightened, hearing more words flood through the speakers.
"You said this already"
You spoke in a sing-song voice, doing your best to imitate the intonation of the voice you heard through the headphones
"At the beginning"
"The who are you" Sam insisted once more, starting to get irritated by the sheer number of times he'd asked the same question.
"You know"
"I am"
"I'm the Reverend"
Nate dove forward, looking back to the rest of the group now that he was inches in front of you ready to rip the headphones from your head.
"Are we done?" he rushed, eyes wide in urgency, "Can we be done? Can I pull her out? I do not want her sitting in the closet with him behind her- especially when it's pulling her hair and stuff-"
The boys all began nodding, Colby the first to speak, "Yeah, yeah dude, get her out of there like now."
That's all your boyfriend needed to lean forward and take the device off your head, pulling your body from the floor and as far from the closet as he could manage.
You glared at him as he did so, slapping his shoulder once "That wasn't funny. Don't fucking do that-"
"Babe" he grabbed your shoulders, looking you straight in the eyes, "I didn't touch you. I swear."
"Yeah" Sam spoke up behind the two of you, "We were all like, several feet from you."
"Yeah Y/N, no one touched you" Colby gestured to the camera, "We can show you the footage if you'd like."
You were freaked out before, but with that information as well as everything they filled you in on, you were ready to leave. You didn't care about finishing the investigation and you didn't care about any more information they could possibly gain by going any further.
The boys, for the sake of closure and for the sake of answers for the viewers, wanted to continue. You respected it, but you couldn't force yourself to do it anymore and to be completely honest, you were terrified.
Doing investigations with your friends was fun, but this was one you couldn't finish. Not when you felt this sick to your stomach. Not when you potentially had a creepy pervy Reverend standing behind you in a closet pulling your hair. Not when you felt as targeted as you did. Not when you could tell whatever the spirit was, was having fun running all of you in circles.
So instead, while the boys tried the Estes session one last time in the master bedroom, you had taken the keys to Nate's car and was driving back to the hotel. You'd brought some sage on the trip- not too sure how to use it, but you had a feeling it may be necessary for this little road trip of investigation videos.
You don't know why you hadn't brought it with you earlier, but you felt like leaving to get it was more than worth it in this scenario.
You began by smudging yourself, then the hotel room just in case you brought anything with you. Then, you walked to the parking lot, smudging Nate's car as well. The people who saw you probably thought you were insane, but you couldn't care less at the moment.
Better safe than sorry.
When you deemed everything properly smudged, you plopped back into the driver's seat, sage bundle in the cupholder, on the way back to the Villisca House to do the same to the boys.

Attention Grabber
Seth Borden x Reader
Sam, Colby, Nate, Seth and Reader are doing an investigation. What happens when the Reader faints by Seth?
Content: established relationship between Reader and Seth, mentions of murder, evil beings, harm to people, sickly but mostly fluff for Seth.
If any of these things mentioned above makes you feel bad or something along those lines, please click away
Sam, Colby, Nate, Seth and I walked around the Villisca Ace Murder House before Sam and Colby started their video. The house had a very dark entity and it did well to make itself known. Even during just the tours during the day the guide explained that people would get scratched, pulled and sick.
"When we initially walked into the house I was like okay it's creepy in here, little spooky but I'm fine. When we went upstairs, it wasn't when we went into the parents room, it's when we walked into the kids room, I felt the same feeling in my back that I felt when I had that experience at the seance at the conjuring house when I got an attachment. When a spirit is trying to attach itself to you it starts by making like a back pain in the bottom of your spine and it goes all the way up. That's legit what I felt and I just felt that same thing upstairs." Seth begins their video by explaining how he felt during the tour.
"That's crazy because I noticed the shadows around you but didn't say anything because they didn't seem ill intentioned. There were three around us in the kids room and were trying to play. I don't necessarily think that they were trying to attach themselves per say but they did look very curious." I told the boys what I saw when we were touring. They all looked a little scared when I was finished but they nervously laughed it off. I thought it was hilarious because the kid spirits were super friendly. Yes they had a bit of sadness and anger but they were residual emotions from the murder.
"I definitely felt like how I did during the conjuring house." Colby added onto what Seth told us.
"To be quite honest when I was like alright we're gonna go to these haunted houses, alright, but compared to like Hell Week we're chilling. After all of these stories and interviews we've done today I'm like thinking this might be one of the more scary places we've actually been to" Sam confessed to us.
"Seriously it feels like it too." Colby responded.
"This feels like you walk into the room and there is a psychic oppression. I noticed (y/n)s shift of mood really quick." Nate noted. I got nervous for a second because I hadn't even realized I did that.
" I'm not trying to hype this place up for the camera. I'm being so serious right now, like I have not felt that feeling since I had thy experience. " Seth chimed in. Reconfirming that this house was full of bitter emotions.
"He said that this house was actually known for physical touch, scratches and things happening. Most paranormal occurrences are like sounds or like you see apparitions. This is physical it's different." Sam pointed out. He was right. Most paranormal occurrences don't result in poltergeist activity.
"Oh and what's freaky is its not even the axe murder that's freaky. It's the fact that there's an energy that's been here for a long time. But that entity is still here. So that technically means that the murder is still here. " Nate pointed out.
"You guys all have great points. Now let's see if we can get anything. But we have to remember, we were told that this entity, spirit, being, whatever you may call it. It is a trickster. We may not come to the official conclusion like we hope. " I commented. The boys all agreed but we are all in the best spirits to keep hope that we can help shed some bit of light on the story.
Time skip to after the attic Estes Method
"That was crazy. I feel like it's still with us. Maybe we should try to go down to the guest room to do another one. I feel sick being up here. Something definitely wants us to leave." I proposed. The boys agreed luckily and we left the attic. I was feeling dizzy. "I think I am gonna get sick. I need to sit." I announced. Seth looked very concerned. I grabbed ahold of his hand and sat down. I was about to talk about how I wanted to just leave because something wasn't right when the music box started going off. I stood up really quick because I was sitting right by it.
"It's like something was waiting for us to come down here. I feel genuinely sick being in this room. " Seth muttered.
"I agree. But I think it wanted us to retrace its steps. I think it's playing with us again. " Sam frowned. He was right. I looked towards the door again. I could see the figure there. It was then that I got a throbbing head pain. Not quite like a headache. It was way worse. My vision went blurry and then eventually went black.
When I woke up I was confused. My head was in a lap and my hair was being played with. I turned onto my back and saw Seth smiling at me. He looked so cute.
"You fainted straight into my arms. You know, if you wanted my attention that bad you could have just asked for it, you didn't have to go to such extremes. " Seth smiled when I looked away blushing.
"I wasn't trying to faint but we do need to get out soon. Did you guys get anything when I was out?" I questioned trying to change the subject. The boys nodded.
"Yes. I don't think you'll believe this but it couldn't be the rival because he was out of town. If we are thinking logical then it was Paul because of the identical crime scenes. If we are thinking more spiritually then it is the reverend. When we did the Estes method, the answers it would give us were too perfect. It would give us a trail and then cut us off. " Nate indicated that the spirit continued to mess with them.
"In any case I think we should leave. I know that we technically haven't come to a conclusion but the ghost wants us gone and I have a feeling the next attack won't be as kind to you guys. " I voiced nervously. Seth helped me up and we gathered our equipment up.
"Hey (y/n) have you scratched your leg recently?" Colby inquired. I shook my head as I looked down. I had three long claw-like marks from the outside of my calf leading to the top of my shoe.
"Ya let's get out of here quickly. Thank you for communicating with us but you may not follow us. You may not attach yourself to us. You have to stay here. " I headed towards the door and the boys followed me. "Thank you again Seth for helping me. I appreciate it." I confessed to him.
"It's honestly not a problem. I didn't want to see you get hurt. " he leaned down and kissed me.
"Awe what a cute way to end a horrifying video." Sam chuckled

Want to write about a haunting? There are six haunted places on my Weird Wednesday blog, with writing prompts!
The Flannan Isles Vanishing: The Mysterious Disappearance of Three Lighthouse Keepers
Phantom Islands: The Isle of Demons, Fata Morgana Land, and of course, Atlantis
The Deadly Dyatlov Pass: What happened to nine hikers on a snowy night in 1959?
The Amityville Horror: Infamous American Haunted House
The Villisca Axe Murders: 1912 Tragedy
The Crossroads: Metaphysical Meeting Place
A prompt:
Putting the phantom in phantom island. Perhaps a certain island is a gathering place for phantoms of all kinds: ghosts of the drowned from vessels lost in the area, sea monsters, wormholes through space/time, zombies, or demons. Perhaps someone has literally cursed the place, or maybe it’s the site of an evil relic or graveyard of the damned. It could even be the home port of the ghost ship Flying Dutchman.

Colby and Sam x ghost child reader
( this is not based on any hauntings they have gone to, more like a comfort fic ?)
(this is was not meant to ‘make fun’ of ghosts or anything like that)
(Please don’t hate crime me for this, I only made this so could comfort myself for my own trauma)
(I’m sorry but I did take inspiration from Sam and Colby video called “Our Haunted Night at Villisca Axe Murder House (SLOVED)” but taking inspiration from this I did not mean to make a joke to what happened to this poor girl, I do think this was an amazing video but if you have any sexual trauma I do not recommend this video)
(Also, I have 0 experience with writing about supernatural things sorry!)
(PS look up Potoo it’s a real bird and I love them OMG )
TW: abuse, ghosts (?), sexual assault, murder, death,
You had been the child killer by a mas murder years ago, you had died when you were 12 and had stayed 9 for the last 10 year.
Where you died had turned into a “top 10 haunted’ places to visit for people who want a good scare, honestly you hatted it, all those people sticking their noise in yours and your family death, talking about how it was tragic what had happened to you.
They always asked the same questions
“Do you remember who killed you?”
“Can you give us a sign your sill here?”
“Did you dad kill you?”
You hatted the last question the most, your dad was always so kind he would always give you lots of gifts and hugs, sometimes he went away for work for a month though, you hatted it when he went away you always missed him so much.
Sometimes they even pretended you answered, or touched there back, that annoyed you the most it was like they new you were there but didn’t care about being real about it.
They always asked what type of person your mother was too, the was an annoying question.
Because no matter how many times you said ‘mean ‘or ‘ loud ‘ into the box that lets you speak they always ask the question again. Your mother wasn’t the worst, not by a long shot but she would always been yelling at you for one reason or another, she was also cruel so would ignore you for days on end. But you still loved her, she was your mother after all.
After 5 years of people asking the same boring questions, you stopped answering as much and people stopped coming as much, it was boring, you almost missed seeing people.
People did still come around sometimes to see were the horrific murder happened, but they didn’t normally ask questions to you, sometimes you did like to pull on their shirt a little catching them of grade and scaring them a little but only if they were there a while you were still a little shy of new people.
One afternoon you saw the grounds keeper walking around making sure everything was clean enough, he normally did this whenever there would be people coming over, but no one normally comes this late is was almost getting dark. You watched and followed the grounds keeper go around the house sweeping and dusting some shelves a well as kill a big scary spider, the big spider scared you a lot it had so many legs and eyes.
The grounds keeper stopped sweeping when he heard a nock at the door, he put down the broom and walked over to the door, you didn’t want to follow him, so you stayed looking at the broom.
It was big, around the same height as you and was colourful, you have seen the broom before, but you always like to play with it when you got the chance.
You divided too slightly push the broom and watched it move a little, slightly tipping this made you very happy, you always loved whenever you could do things that affected the world around you.
You did it again but this time a little too much force and it fell over making a big noise, you jumped back in surprise and ran into the other room where the kitchen was.
pov change idk(?)
Sam and Colby were standing at the door talking with the grounds keeper when they heard something fall over and small footsteps running to the kitchen
“Oh my! Did you all hear that?” Sam questioned pointing the camera at Colby and Amanda.
“That must be one of our quieter spirits, (Your name). there is a bit shy not talking to many” the ground keeper said walking inside to the living room seeing the coloured broom knocked over
“Were you just using this?” Colby asked picking it up and putting it up right again to show the camera that it didn’t wall by accident
“Yeah, I just finished sweeping “the gate keeper said stepping back a little
“Is there any windows or drafts around here?” Amanda asked trying to open the windows or see if it was slightly open
“Nah, the windows don’t open, never have pulse we don’t have not A/C “The ground keeper sighed wanting to get on with the tore
“In this room was where most of the family fighter took place, the neighbours apparently called the police around 5 times before they stopped and moved out leaving the house across the street empty for nearly 2 years “The ground keeper said facing the camera that was painted in his direction
“So did the fights often get aggressive? Or was it more of a noise complaining?” Colby asked walking around the table
“Oh, hey would get violent and just the screaming at each other and the threats of violence was enough for the police to get called, but apparently the wife was always the first to get violent, throwing plates and glasses around and at her husband” the ground keeper said looking at Colby
“Was the little girl ever removed? “Sam stepped in
“No, she’s still here “Amanda cut in looking to the kitchen
“I saw her peek her head out, almost seeing if the coast was clear to leave the kitchen” Amanda explained pointing to the kitchen door
“Your correct, the kid was never taken out of the custody. But there was no evidence of abuse towards the child so the police said there was no way she could be placed into a safer house “the grounds keeper explained sightly shocked that Amanda said what she did
No one didn’t anything but slightly nod their head signalling that they understood him.
The grounds keeper walked into the kitchen as he began to speak again
“This kitchen is one of the most active houses in the house other than the small cubed in (your names) room and the hallway. There was blood all over the kitchen floor, the police suspect- “
“Oh my god” Sam said touching the back of his neck
“What?” Amanda asked concerned for her friend
“I just felt a bot breath on my neck, and it freaked me out sorry” Sam apologised the grounds keeper
“As I was saying, the police suspect that the murder who ever they are killed the parents and walked down starts with the bloody knife that the murder used and walked into the kitchen where he ripped all the plates and glasses done and smashed them on the floor for whatever reason he had. Then went back upstairs and killer the girl” The grounds keeper said leaving out the horrible suspicion the police had about what also happened the kid after she died.
Amanda frowned, her eyebrows knitting together not understanding why a murder would come down stairs before killing the younger child, but chose not to say anything.
( Honestly time skip bc bored and I want to get to the investigation part so for the back story, your mother was killed by someone stabbing her in the chest 15 times and taking her eyes out and your dad as killed by someone cutting his neck, you were killed by your neck being cut and your wrists, and you were undressed and put into a sexual positions )
Once the ground keeper gave Sam and Colby the keys, he left leaving Amanda and the group alone.
“Ok, so this place defiantly had more than one spirits. I feel something dark are dangerous. Now that could be the parents or possibly the murder “Amanda said walking into the small powder room that came of from the living room looking at the small sink toilet and slightly cracked mirror.
“I thought there was only supposed to be one spirit here... the parent?” Sam questioned
“The only spirit reported here was the parents, but I saw the girl, she’s shy thought, I haven’t seen her since the broom got nocked over” Amanda said closing the door to the powder room
Sam nodes his head in agreement,
“Guys!” Colby shouts from upstairs making Sam start running up the stairs
“What?!” Sam yelled half up the stairs worrying something bad happened
Once Sam reached the room the relied on it was the parents’ room
“What?” Sam asked again looking at Colby
“The window is open “Colby whispered not talking his eyes of the windows
‘I thought the grounds keeper said they couldn’t open and never could “Sam questioned
‘He did” Amanda said coming out of no wear making the boys flinch from the shock
“This is the parents, right?” Amanda asked earning a nod from Sam
Colby finally looked away and said, “I was just setting up the music box at the front of the room, we were going to start here, right?” Colby questioned
“Yeah, that’s what I was thinking in the car up here” Sam said
“It’s still going to be a while until dark and I think we should do the parents room, then the living room, then the kids’ room so it will be late when we get to hers and she’ll feel more comfortable hopefully” Amanda commented
“Yeah, that sounds good” Sam said sitting on the bed and pulling out the EFM reader
“Ok, if any spirits want to communicate to us we have objects you can touch, we also give you full perdition to drain the battery from our phones if you need energy to talk to us” Colby says when they finish setting up all the cameras and lights
There is no response so Sam tries to talk
“If you are here I would greatly appreciate if you could give a clear sign by knocking the walls or touching one of our devi- “Sam stopped when he heard a loud nock on the walls
Looking at the camera with a shocked expression
“That was the cleared knock we’ve ever caught!” Colby says not believing that the camera got that
“If there is a spirit here, can you place touch one of these devises in the doorway?” Amanda asked
A few seconds latter the music box started going of and both Sam and Colby yelling in excitement
“Are you one or both of the parents of (your name)?” Colby asked
The spirit box chimed in with a
‘Possibly’
Making all the 3 of the group freak out
“That was so perfect! Oh My God! I can’t even believe! “Colby says
“No one’s going to believe that! It was to perfect!” Sam sighs rolling his eyes knowing how some people are on YouTube.
After around 40 minutes of trying to get the spirt(s) so communicate and getting nothing they divided to bring out the old estes metho, it was voted that Sam would be the receiver and they began.
Sam began putting on the make blindfold and got the headphones handed to him, already hearing the incredibly loud static noises. One he put the earphones Amanda pulled out a note book and turning to a new page.
“If there are any spirts here that want to communicate, please do so now “ Amanda said clicking her pen ready to start writing and nodding to Colby as if signalling him to start.
“Is there anyone open to speaking to us?” Colby asked
A small ‘ apparently’ can be headed from Sam’s headphones before he repeats the word
“Ok, are you the farther? “ Amanda askes
Waiting a few seconds before asking again
“Are you the father-“
“Me” Sam says cutting Amanda of making Colby gasp slightly looking at Amanda.
“Ok so your name is (your dads name) correct?” Colby askes
“You already know” Sam repeats
Colby is now smiling like a mad man now with the amazing relates they are now getting
“This is like a convocation!” Colby says to Amanda
Witch she only nods her head to
“What is a type of bird you know? “Amanda asks to make show the soon to be audience that Sam cant hear them asking the questions
“Why” Sam quested
“What is a type of bird you know? “Amanda asks again
The question is followed by a minute if complete silence with nothing to empty static to be headed
Finally Sam replies a answer
“Potoo” Sam says confused
Colby looked at Amanda to see if it was a real bird to be met with a nod
“Ok... How did you die? “Colby questioned
“Kinfe” Sam repeated slightly confused not understanding why he was repeating the strangest words
“OHMYGOD” Colby yells jumping to get the camera and show the now flashing bathroom light attached to the bedroom
“That’s turning on and off” Colby says to the camera pointing to the bathroom
“Need” Sam repeats
Amanda writes into her note book
“What do you need?” She askes trying to get more information
Colby puts the camera back as he sits down again
“Alive” Sam says
“Alive? You’re not alive your dead, how can you be alive?” Colby questions
“Power”
“Power? Is that how you can feel alive?” Amanda questioned
“Hopefully”
“So, you don’t know ye- “Amanda asks
“Pray” Sam cuts of Amanda without realizing
“Do you want us to pray? Why?” Colby askes
“No protection” Sam says confused
Colby takes his cross necklace out from under his shirt
“I am protected so are all my friends here because we have God on our side, you may not harm any of us” Colby says in a dominate manner to make the spirit realize and understand that they are untouchable
“Lie’s “Sam repeats
“No were not lying, God will protect us. And you will not harm any of us “Amanda says visualises a light bubble going over all 3 of them for protection
“Um …kill yourself” Sam mumbles not feeling comfortable with saying that to anyone
Colby is frowning
“Are a evil spirt?” Colby askes
“Take a guess” Sam repeats
Amanda turns to Colby and says “ I don’t like this and I think we should stop and move to a different room “
Colby stands up and taps Sam’s shoulder singling him to take of the headphones off where you can hear a small
“See soon “coming from the headphones
“Oh, shit that gave me full body shivers, did any of that make scenes?” Sam askes
“It made perfect sense it was like having a convocation. it was so clear!” Amanda replies
“I think we should take a small break before going into the living room and talk about what all of that could have meant, I wrote all questions we asked and what you said back” Amanda said holding up her notebook
“That sounds great, we should also get something to eat” Colby suggests
“Yes! I’m so hungry, that session took a lot out of me for some reason “
Amanda hums in agreement
(What is this ? yet another time skip. Yes )
Once they finished the living room it was around 2am and they hadn’t got much evidence in the living room other than a few words from the spirit box like ‘ evil’ , ‘ leave’ and ‘glass’,
Evonne had existed to go into the last room hoping that there was lots of activity.
Once they had set up everything, there was a music box in the door and in the closet,
The spirt box was out and set up and they all stood in the middle of the room wanting to sit on the bed
“So this was (Your names) bedroom, supposably the most haunted place in the room, but around 5 years ago it went quit and not many people have been able to contact her.
(Your name) was the last one to be killed in this crime scene...” Sam swallowed a pit that was beginning to form in his throat
Colby noticed this and took over explaining,
“When (your name) was killed they were undressed and put into a sexual position, the police suspect that the person responsible for this crime may have h-handled her… sexually” Colby breathed gesturing to the bed
“Were talking about a 9-year-old girl here, A child” Colby said sternly feeling disgusted and angry
“She’s here now” Amanda said looking down the hall
“Hi (your name) my name is Amanda and I’m a medium meaning I can see you, this is Sam and Colby there good friends, you don’t have to be shy, I’ve seen you all night quietly following us, why don’t you come in so we can talk? “ Amanda suggested
“We have this cute Boo bear for you to play with” Amanda says holding up and putting it back on the end of the bed
Amanda looked for a second before you diapered again
“I cant see her anymore” Amanda says keeping the boys in the loop.
It didn’t take long for the music box in the middle of the door frame to go of signalling someone standing there,
‘Sound ‘ The spirit box when of making Sam gasp
“Yeah! Yes that’s called a music box and it dose make sound” Sam says existed
The second music box went of the one in the closet,
It kept going to sighingly that someone was in the closet
‘off...?’ The spirit box says quietly almost questioning
“Do you want us to turn the music box of? If so, can you please turn on the flashlight near you?” Colby questions
It took a minute but the flashlight turned on making the boys and Amanda smile
“Thank you so much” Sam phrases you as he went up to move the box just enough, so it stopped picking you up in the ratter
“If your (Your name) can you please turn of-“ Amanda starts talking but stops when she noticed the light slowly turning of
“Thank you so much (You name), Do you think you can use the Spirit box to talk to us ?” Colby asked
There isn’t a response that they could hear so they asked the first question
“ (Your name) do you remember who killed you?” Amanda starts of strong
Amanda had to repeat the question one more time before you answered
‘hurt’ the box said
“Do you remember being hurt? “Sam tried
‘All time’ the box said
Colby took a shaking breath “I’m sorry that you feel hurt” He attempts to comfort you
It was quite for a bit.
They asked a couple more questions that you didn’t really answer
“Ok so (your name) doesn’t seem too happy to answer questions so we-“
‘can you say that again’ the boo bear went of
Colby gasps
“That means she said something” He whispers
“Can you say that into the spirit box? “ Amanda asked
After a few minuets after science they decided to keep talking
“Ok, so were going to start the estes method now, and I think its only far for Colby to be the receiver this time “ Sam smiles looking at Colby handing him the blind fold
After they got set up Colby sat on the floor not wanting to sit on the bed
‘Brr I’m so cold’ the Boo bear said singling a temp change
“Ok, (Your name) if you would like to communicate with us please use the spirit box and Colby will repeat it to us “ Amanda said trying to make you feel more comfortable to speak to them
‘ that tickles’ the Boo bear laughs making Sam gasp
“That means something touched its stomach”
Colby smiled as he put the blindfold and headphones on
“Hey (your name) do you like the Boo bear?” Amanda questioned
“extremely” Colby repeated
“That’s good it’s very cute isn’t it ?” Amanda smiled
“Do you remember who ki-“ Sam started
“ All the same” Colby repeated
“What is all the same? “ Amanda asked
“you” Colby said
“How are we the same?” Sam asked
“Hind”
Sam looked behind him into the pitch black hallway to see a shadow do down stairs making me shout in surprise “ Fuck!”
“What?” Amanda asked flinching from the volume of Sam’s voice
“I just, I just saw a shadow figure go downstairs after (Your name) told us to hide” Sam said standing up and putting his back to a wall rubbing his hand over his mouth
“That was the clearest one I have ever seen that freaked the fuck out “
“food” Colby says
“Food? Like are they in the kitchen ?” Amanda asked
“Are we safe now?” Sam askes
“Hopefully “Colby replies
“Ok.. Do you remember who killed you?” Sam asked
“close” Colby said
“Was it someone who was close to you?” Amanda askes
“yeah”
“Ok, were they a friend?” Sam asked
“Pray” Colby said
“Pray? Like do you want us to pray?” Amanda Asked
“No please” Same repeated
“Ok, so was it a someone who worked in a church?” Amanda asked
“positively “Colby said
“Ok… I’m sorry that happened to you” Sam said
“Is there anything we can do to help you move on?” Amanda asked

what would you say ARE sam and colby's top 3 most intense videos? like... the ones with the most compelling evidence that can't be easily debunked? i agree with you that the new conjuring videos have some things about them that create room for doubt, but i REALLY like sam and colby's content overall and i think the two of them together are just so charming. so i wanted to see what you consider are their strongest videos. :,)
(I am so sorry for the delay in answering this - I actually had a tough time in deciding what my #3 was going to be and it sent me down a rabbit whole for a few days, so this has been sitting in my drafts while I figured it out!)
So, to preface my answer: I only took their haunted content into account for this because I think that is more of what you were looking for. However, I am of the opinion that some of their non-haunted content (the xplr days and 25x25 in particular) could probably match the intensity of any of their haunted videos, just in different ways...so I am more than happy to do a separate post diving into that content as well, if you want.
When I think intensity of their haunted content, I think of the videos that have moments that feel so charged that you can almost feel the tension, anxiety, discomfort, what-have-you through the screen. There are a lot of videos that have really great moments with neat evidence or great banter with them, but they may not necessarily have that energy to them, or they may have a lot of evidence that is debunkable (ex: Bower's Mansion - fantastic video, huge omg! moment in it, but that omg! moment is very hotly contested and highly debated to this day, so this one doesn't make this list). So, this list - to me, anyway, and please everyone remember that whole thing about opinions - is the best of the best as far as making you feel super tense through the screen while watching.
The Night We Talked to Demons | REAL Conjuring House (2021):
Yes, the og Conjuring video. This remains, to this day, the only haunted video they ever made that made me feel wildly uncomfortable the whole way through. I remember when this came out, everyone was talking about how it felt so different and how it made so many people uneasy and lowkey afraid - and not like, jumpscare, haunted hayride afraid, but that kind of afraid that hits you in bed at 3am sometimes where you swear there's someone watching you from the closet. Yes, they may have been misrepresenting the house and the fact of the story (Ken Burns level of historians, our boys are not), but the genuine thrum of fear and anxiety that ran throughout that whole video was real and unsettling.
Evidence wise, this is kind of the start of a new era for them - this is where they learned the Estes Method, after all. And some of the answers they were getting during the Method? Still creepy to hear, to this day. This is also where they caught the photo of the little boy on the thermal camera.
Amanda is in this, and is being very Amanda-like, yes, but this was early on and it's kind of easy to ignore her more..dubious traits.
This one is just a great watch if you want to be genuinely spooked, feel genuinely afraid for them and what they are doing, and you don't want any yelling streamers or weird wacky games to kind of stop the whole natural flow of things. As far as their 3 trips to the Conjuring is concerned, I am of the opinion that the first trip remains the best, in a lot of ways.
2. Our Haunted Night at Villisca Axe Murder House (2021):
The intensity with this one really comes along with the tragic tale of this house itself, and how that story will make you feel. It's an ugly, sad story and the horrible feeling from the crime that took place in that house is baked into the walls.
The whole place just has an eerie vibe of being wrong somehow, and that really comes across in this video. They tell the story of the house and the people who were murdered in it very well, and very respectfully, and their discomfort with the subject matter comes through as well and all works together to just create a tense, tense atmosphere for the entirety of the video.
Seriously, this video is an exercise in intense vibes.
The evidence in this video was pretty solid - not a crazy amount, but what they did get wasn't really controversial or easily debunkable so that's always a plus.
It's just the house. The house just feels...off. And that off-ness carries a tension and intensity with it that never goes away, through the whole video.
3. Ok, so this is where I struggled greatly, and eventually I gave up and decided that number 3 was going to have to be a 3-way tie, because all of these videos have elements of intensity to them that I feel need to be included. So, without further ado:
3a. A Horrifying Encounter at Black Swan Estate (2022):
The intensity in this video really starts at about 27 minutes in, when the boys discover what a "psychomanteum" is and subsequently put themselves into creepy ass trances. Colby leaning forward with those giant ass night vision pupils of his and muttering, "the way...that they would," for no fucking reason creeps me out to this day.
3b. Our Terrifying Encounter at Most Haunted Hotel (2022):
OK, this one almost didn't make the list because it's less bad intense, and more good intense, if that makes sense. It's a really good watch (and an underrated one, quite honestly), but nothing overly scary happens.
Colby gets busy with a ghost lady and the way it all kind of goes down is super interesting, cause it's almost like he goes into a whole other state of being. Again, nothing bad about this - in fact, he talks about how good the feeling is the entire time. But, it's really strange and intense nonetheless.
3c. The Night We'll Never Forget | Haunted Hotel Del Coronado (2021):
This one almost didn't make the list because of Amanda's shenanigans, straight up.
But the building is fucking creepy. It's trippy, it's weird, it's unsettling...and as they're going through the halls, it starts to make you feel like you're on some kind of trip to another dimension. Again, this is another one where the vibes of the building were so off and so intense, that it kind of seeps through the screen and sets the tone for the whole episode. The intensity with this one is the backdrop, not necessarily the evidence and the content itself.

9 Terrifying American Murder Houses
From Amityville Horror to Jeffrey Dahmer’s one-bedroom, these murder houses are home to some truly brutal murders.
9. THE AMITYVILLE HORROR HOUSE 112 OCEAN AVE, AMITYVILLE, NY
When the deal is too good, start asking questions. In 1975, George and Kathy Lutz bought this sprawling Dutch Colonial on the south shore of Long Island at a bargain rate. The reason for the discounted price tag? Just 13 months earlier, previous resident Ronald “Butch” DeFeo slaughtered his parents and four younger siblings while they slept in their beds. It didn’t take long for the weirdness to begin. Demonic voices, oozing walls, cloven hoof prints in the snow. The Lutz family lasted just two months before fleeing 112 Ocean Avenue in the night.
8. THE HEX MURDER HOUSE REHMEYERS HOLLOW RD, SHREWSBURY, PA
In 1928, John Blymire was convinced a reclusive neighbor named Nelson Rehmeyer had put a hex upon him. Believing the only way to break the curse was to track down Rehmeyer’s spell book and set it ablaze, Blymire rallied two buddies for a late-night visit. While the gang never found the book, they did find Rehmeyer whom they murdered and mutilated before setting his body on fire. In 2007, an effort was made to open the Hex House to the public, but the plan was eventually scrapped.
7. MOORE FAMILY AXE MURDER HOUSE 508 E 2ND ST, VILLISCA, IA
On a cool summer night in 1912 someone broke into this peaceful Iowa homestead and bludgeoned all six family members plus two houseguests with an axe. The horrific scene was discovered the following morning by a concerned neighbor. Numerous suspects were named in the case including a traveling minister and State Senator Frank F. Jones. Nevertheless, the murder remains unsolved.
6. KREISCHER MANSION 4500 ARTHUR KILL RD, STATEN ISLAND, NY
German entrepreneur Balthasar Kreischer built this sprawling mansion in 1885 as a symbol of his success in the brick making business. The good times were short-lived. By 1894, his company had crumbled and his youngest son had shot himself in the head. The decaying mansion sat empty for years until its groundskeeper used the property for a mob hit in 2005. Joseph Young strangled and stabbed his target before finally drowning the man in a garden pool. Young then hacked up the body and burned it in the mansion’s incinerator.
5. LIZZIE BORDEN HOUSE 230 2ND ST, FALL RIVER, MA
On August 4, 1892 Andrew Borden was thrashed with a hatchet while he dozed on the couch of his parlor. Andrew’s second wife Abby met an equally grisly end in the upstairs bedroom. While everyone in Fall River suspected daughter Lizzie of the crime, the local judge remained unconvinced. She was tried and acquitted of the murder one year later. Oddly, the home is now a successful bed & breakfast.
4. MANSON FAMILY MURDER HOUSE 10050 CIELO DRIVE, LOS ANGELES, CA
In 1969, members of the Manson Family shocked the nation when they broke into this L.A. estate and slaughtered Sharon Tate along with four other victims. The murderers wrote pig in blood across the front door. Numerous residents have since called 10050 Cielo Drive home including musician Trent Reznor, who recorded THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL there. In 1994, the original structure was razed and replaced with a new mansion, currently occupied by the creator of FULL HOUSE.
3. JEFFREY DAHMER’S APARTMENT 924 NORTH 25TH ST, APT 213, MILWAUKEE, WI
Cannibal killer Jeffrey Dahmer lured numerous victims to his nondescript one-bedroom, where he drugged and dismembered them in a brutal campaign of murder. Severed limbs were packed in the freezer for future consumption; torsos were dumped in a vat of acid. Police finally arrested Dahmer in 1991 after one of his prisoners managed to escape. The entire apartment building was torn down shortly thereafter.
2. JOHN WAYNE GACY’S HOUSE 8213 SUMMERDALE AVE, CHICAGO, IL
It’s always good to know your neighbors especially if you suspect them of murder. John Wayne Gacy buried dozens of bodies in the basement and backyard of his suburban home while neighbors casually went about their day. When Gacy’s wife complained of a putrid smell, Gacy blamed it on dead mice. By the time police nabbed the infamous killer clown and excavated his 8213 Summerdale Ave property, they uncovered 29 bodies.
1. GARDETTE-LAPRETE HOUSE 1240 BURGUNDY ST, NEW ORLEANS, LA
In the late 1830s, plantation owner Jean LePrete leased his French Quarter Greek Revival to a mysterious man from Turkey. The renter, known only as The Sultan had more than a few roommates. He arrived with a massive entourage of eunuchs and concubines. The house quickly became known for its lavish parties, with music and revelry carrying on into the night. One morning, a passerby noticed 1240 Burgundy was eerily quiet. Then he spotted blood seeping out of the door. When authorities entered, they found everyone inside had been murdered and dismembered. As for The Sultan? He was buried alive in the courtyard. To this day, the case remains unsolved.
