We talk about how quickly Vimes had it down bad for Sybil, but can we also appreciate that five foot nothing of scrawny alcoholic turned up at Sybil's door and she was immediately like "help me with my dragons. let's have tea. did you know my ancestors fucked severely? gosh you're a captain, how dashing." When Vimes was injured she could have had him put in her spare bed but nope, she put him in her bedroom. And then she slapped his arse. Lady Sybil knew what she wanted.

Hear me out: Untitled Goose Game in Ankh-Morpork...
Think of all the mayhem you could create.
(I really really want so bad this game/DLC to exist. So much potential. @house_house_ call me (or, better, call the Pratchetts)) Next drawing: the Post!

The thing about the Watch books is that people tend to say that they're about self control and social commentary and "It's better to light a flamethrower than to curse the darkness" and they are. But they're also about a man being forced to stop being fantasy racist. Partly due to political reasons (Vetinari) but mostly because he's a good person

I like to think about Vimes and Moist's dynamic before moist earned his respect. I imagine it was a lot of this
[ID: a three panel comic. The first panel shows commander Vimes grabbing moist von lipwig by his tie and preparing to punch him, saying "right you bastard that's it!". Moist is in his golden bankers suit and top hat, and grimacing. The second panel, from Vimes' POV, shows him grabbing Moist's tie, moist is waking an uwu face and saying "hey hey hey c'mon I'm a little guy. I'm just a little guy nooo". The third panel shows vikes doing a disgusted face (the Excalibur reaction from soul eater). The rest of the "I'm a birthday boy, you wouldn't punch a little birthday boy" greentext is present in the background. End ID]

What I love about Terry Pratchett's good characters is that they never fail you. Sam Vimes might push you towards the piss puddle for fun, or put a farting pillow under your chair, maybe tie your shoelaces while you're asleep - but he would never fuck your wife or piss into your shoes or make you miserable for no reason other than sheer "fun".
Granny Weatherwax would never say "no" to a crying for help or "please". She wouldn't betray her morals for money, some sort of respect gain or power.
So wouldn't Angua. Or Susan. Or Adora Belle. Or Carrot. Or Luggage.

I don’t think Discworld could be adapted well with a live action medium, but having Con O’Neill play Sam Vimes would be the MOST INCREDIBLE casting choice ever.
Like he would NAIL the grizzled and exhausted, but unendingly determined nature of Vimes. Con would OWN the journey that Vimes goes on to fiercely fight against intolerance, even if he’s a little confused about certain things lmao

It was because he wanted there to be conspirators. It was much better to imagine men in some smoky room somewhere, made mad and cynical by privilege and power, plotting over the brandy. You had to cling to this sort of image, because if you didn’t then you might have to face the fact that bad things happened because ordinary people, the kind who brushed the dog and told their children bedtime stories, were capable of then going out and doing horrible things to other ordinary people. It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone’s fault. If it was Us, what did that make Me? After all, I’m one of Us. I must be. I’ve certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We’re always one of Us. It’s Them that do the bad things.
Terry Pratchett, Jingo

Between grad school and commission work, I'm working on a lil' series of animal-ified character sketches from Terry Pratchett's "Guards! Guards!"
I've already finished one for Carrot , and now we have Captain Samuel Vimes of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch! The design is based on a Český Fousek (or the 'Bohemian wire-haired pointing griffon').
Please note that I have not yet had the chance to read the books myself (though I intend to!) - I'm basing these depictions mostly off of how myself and the rest of my cast played the roles in our theatrical production, so there are likely inconsistencies when it comes to costumes and such :)
