I changed my Meadowlands Farm plan, and hopefully this time, it's final 😅 You can see how the old plan looked like here.

Here's the thing about planning: You can make the prettiest farm, and everything might look right, but it's only after you play in it that you actually see if things are working right. I can't have something that just looks good in my eyes, it needs to be functional, otherwise I just stop playing. Then again, I haven't done this in my actual save, so there could still be some things that still need to be changed for the sake of my sanity, but let's hope this is it.

Keep reading for my explanation of the changes, and the mod list ⬇️

I encountered 5 main problems with my original design:

Furnaces (too far away from crafting area);

Tree Farm with hidden mushroom logs (too many different trees close to each other, means worse mushroom outcomes);

Junimo Area (cute but useless);

Artisan Machines outside (it's more practical to have them inside, next to the Deluxe Grabber);

Bee Houses are better at Ginger Island.

ALSO, I completely forgot about the desert obelisk. So yeah, the first plan had a lot of issues...

The mod list as changed as well. It's a lot longer now (literally), I wanted to make the text "Indented" (make the space between each paragraph smaller), but tumblr wouldn't let me 😩

if you're still answering questions - in response to ur previous answer abt ur favourite plugins, what makes fabfilter compression and eq specifically better for you than just like generic stock plugins? :0

sound quality is overall better, no cramping at nyquist, lots of oversampling options, resizable - well designed interfaces, many more options than the average stock counterpart, cpu efficient, best dynamic eq there is, cleanest compression (on clean mode, setting fastest attack and release with hard knee produces virtually zero distortion which is practically unheard of) but also doesnt skimp out on vintage sounding sensibilities too, robust customizable modulation options including envelope followers for creative fx, most intuitive controls of any processor of its type (pro q3 especially is about as good as an eq can ever get in terms of intuitive workflow), lots of qol utility options like band splitting and m/s l/r processing, multiband crossovers on all multiband products sound immaculate even on zero latency settings, things that take 20 clicks in other processors take 2 in fabfilter's, sidechain referencing and spectrum readouts absolutely stellar and clean, unobtrusive designs <3

My slide/negative scanner I have been hyperfixating on.

Describing the five pieces above for your education, amusement, or annoyance, your call -- which mercifully I have put on the other side of a page break...

The scanner (Nikon Coolscan 4000 ED, item 4) I got at Goodwill for $10, but you can’t find them for less than $300 online presently. Walmart price is $2,200! They hit the market circa 2001 and came with the drivers for Windows XP, then there was a software update to get it into Vista, but this scanner has such a devoted fanbase -- it’s still considered one of the best scanners ever produced even today -- that an edit to the driver .INF file was written by someone other than Nikon so it could be used in Windows 7 through 10 (I have no idea about 11 as yet). The interface is FireWire, rather than USB, which isn’t an issue to me because I have an IEEE 1394 ExpressCard for my notebook (an eBay purchase cheap from China) and an IEEE1394 PCI Express card in my computer ($2 from a junkshop downtown). The black dust cover slides down so the accessories listed below can be inserted.

The 35mm negative strip adaptor (item 1) came with the scanner but the other two standard accessories listed below did not. It does indeed work with an entire 2-to-20-image strip of negatives at one go, thumbnailing the contents in the Nikon software so it can scroll through the strip to look at whichever image you want.

The single slide adaptor (item 2) I got a comparably good price on, and it’s the thing I’ve been using the most. Especially on what you see on Vintage Slideshow. Insert a slide, and automatically the scanner sucks it in and creates a preview scan. The Nikon software is pretty good at image manipulation and correction, but for simplicity reasons if I have a really lousy slide to fix I’ll use VueScan as the scanning software instead.

The negative adaptor tray (item 3) will accept single 35mm negs as well as other sizes of negatives; I’ve scanned 110, 126, and 127 negatives with this doohickie, which can hold a strip of 4 of the latter two sizes and 6-8 of 110... one just needs to move the slider to put one image into the view frame. This adaptor goes into the 35mm negative strip adaptor, and someone on eBay offers an alternative that they 3D-printed for about half the going price.

The 50-slide magazine (item 5) is the latest addition to the family because it took me several years to locate one at a price less than $400. (Would you believe Walmart is asking $1,500?) It scans one slide at a time, but can crank through a stack in autopilot so you don’t have to keep swapping slides. There’s a known issue with this device [FS-200] and its upgrade [FS-200(S)] jamming because it can try to pull more than one slide into the chamber at a time, but several solutions have been found by the fanbase and the one I like most is taping a cable tie (with the end cut flush) along the wall separating the input from the output, the end about 2mm from the entry passage, so that only the first slide will be in the right position and angle to enter the chamber.

There are other adaptors available which I don’t think I’ll ever need, such as for reading APS film rolls or for magnifying glass microscope slides.

Happy to hear you are looking to cosplay LBH! Ah, the very pretty but complicated Thai cover artwork. . . this one makes me groan at how intricate it is. I screen shot this from the SVSSS carrd.

There is a lot of layer action going on. Kityone, an amazing soul, did great work to remove text from more official artwork for the Thai editions.

This is the only full length shot of Binghe’s outfit I could find.

Layers 1.) Zhong yi layer 1- innermost layer - black. I’d pick a cotton or linen fabric for this. You are looking at one that is very slim fitting. The Hanfu Story sells them as well to give you an idea for cut; see here

2.) Zhiju layer 2 - straight hem robe - black with narrow sleeves. It has what I think is an ‘artistic/anachronistic’ high Mandarin-ish style collar. The Erha manhua/artwork does this all the time. It seems to be a thing for xianxia attire. It is hard to find info on this in English, so, I could totally be wrong. I can only find that type of collar on vintage patterns - think cheongsam/qipao or maybe Qing historical garments. I’d personally copy the cheongsam/qipao collar as a base pattern and then modify it to match the hanfu style. I know this is a huge shortcut but it makes sense in my mind. Do a mock up with scrap fabric. 3.) Zhuji layer 3 - straight hem robe with red neck placket and red sleeve cuffs. I think this has shorter sleeves that fall just past the elbow (3/4 length?) and are super wide. [cries in sheer yardage] The sleeve looks like it almost reaches mid-calf or lower. I think it is supposed to be imperial/royal level - like the looooong sleeves you see in Nirvana in Fire worn by the princes when they attend court. The neckline is a deeper V and I think a good reference for the cut is from the cdrama My Heroic Husband with the MC, Ning Yi. His outfits frequently have this style which makes a clear X across the chest. The blue/teal one in the middle is the best match and seems to fall in the right spot on the chest.

4.) Belt with long fabric strip/accent. I have no idea what the large silver belt buckle is supposed to look like - we don’t have good enough detail and resolution. However, we can see that there is a long strip of red fabric that falls from the waist down the front to the feet almost. On top of the red fabric is a fancier accent piece in black with silver trim and tassels. I think it is a mix of these accessories from LBH and SQQ in the Korean cover here. With the shape of SQQ’s being a slightly better match - minus the tasseled pendant.

5.) Banbi jacket/coat - white with red trim and “artistic” choice collar. The jacket is a short sleeve one with a red cuff/trim that is clearly an under layer but I would attach it to the white jacket to make my life easier and less sweaty. The popped collar baffles me - is it sort of like a jacket with a lapel-ish collar? It gives me vibes of the jackets that Sakamoto and Takasugi wear in Gintama and shogunate officials which are also anachronistic by design in a series like Gintama. Or maybe a better comparison is the donghua for Thousand Autumns and Yan Wushi’s open collar layer?

It looks like the neck placket itself is thick in the middle and normal on the outside. I’ve attempted to make a quick example of what I think this looks like here.

I think this is what I would do to sew it onto the jacket and make sure to add interfacing and iron it well. I would do these five layers if I wanted to cosplay this LBH outfit. The zhong yi layer is really important since that is where you are gonna sweat the most, I found it worked well with my 13 hours of WKX with a wig in LA having to stand outside in lines in the summer temps. Advanced Photoshop Tutorial: Mastering Camera RAW Filter for Photograph Enhancement

Introduction: Adobe Photoshop's Camera RAW filter is a powerful tool for enhancing the quality of your photographs. It allows for non-destructive adjustments to exposure, colour temperature, clarity, and more. In this tutorial, we'll explore advanced techniques to make the most out of the Camera RAW filter to transform your images into stunning works of art.

Step 1: Open Your Image in Photoshop Start by opening your image in Photoshop. Go to "File" > "Open" and select the image you want to enhance.

Replaying Nancy Drew without Cheating - Part 11: Secret of the Old Clock

UGHH. I am so torn on how to even discuss this game. Do I absolutely love the 1930s gimmick, to honor the anniversary of the Nancy Drew books? Of course. It is adorable, and it is charming. I recently read the first 4 books of the Nancy Drew series, which was an interesting experience (the narrator never fails to mention how attractive Nancy is, nor how absolutely flawless she is in everything she does), but it does make me appreciate more the fact that HerInteractive decided to make this game. I can now forgive them for creating a hole in the space-time continuum by randomly plopping an 18-year-old Nancy down in 1930 in between two current-day games, which my young mind could neither understand nor accept.

In general, though, this game may be one of my least favorites that I’ve played so far in the Replaying Nancy Drew Without Cheating project. I don’t DISLIKE any Nancy Drew game by any means, but this one had a lot of tedium. I mean a lot. It manages to be an extremely easy game with some of the most frustrating puzzles of any game - I’m thinking mini golf, Jim Archer’s wife’s dress, driving your car and delivering telegrams. By the end, I wasn’t sad for it to be over.

Was I tempted to cheat this game? No, not once. I’m not sure if the games are getting easier as I go on, if my patience is growing in resolve, or if the gameplay is just more linear, or maybe a combination of all three, but it has been a few games since I’ve felt like I needed a hint. This game is perfect if you want to relax, enjoy some bright colors and upbeat vintage music, or think 1930s slang is delightful; ultimately though, it is a bit forgettable.

Here are some of my thoughts:

1. I'll give props to the opening of the game with this cut-scene. You really dive head-first into small town America, nearly a century ago, complete with a fun narration to really get you in the mood. Who is Emily Crandall? Why DID she invite Nancy out to the Lilac Inn? What IS the Lilac Inn? It gets you brimming with questions, and you’re not even out of the car yet.

2. I know this is low-hanging fruit as far as complaints go, and anyone who has played this game has probably mentioned it at one point or another, but the driving interface is a nightmare. I switched between using my keyboard and using my mouse, but each option was equally torturous. My goal this playthrough was to have to deliver as few telegrams as possible, and I still heard “WELCOME TO ZIPPY’S!!” squawked at me over half a dozen times.

3. I really wish the people of Titusville would stop insulting me by acting like they WOULD give me a tip, with some bullshit excuse as to why they can’t. Everyone in that town can suck it as far as I’m concerned.

4. Speaking of the asshole residents of Titusville, by far one of the most irritating parts of the game is that infinitely long quest you’re sent on just to get that stupid trivet (ultimately ended up being necessary, but Christ bro, the fact that I needed to bring 5 toys to Mrs. O’Shea, FREE OF CHARGE, just to get raffle tickets that were already owed to Miss Jakowski, AND THEN MRS. O’SHEA HAD THE GALL TO TELL ME SHE DIDN’T EVEN HAVE THE TICKETS AND I HAD TO GO PICK THEM UP MYSELF??? My blood was BOILIN).

5. Is this the one and only game with TWO culprits? And are these the two most loathesome culprits in the entire world? In all honesty, I hate Jane mostly because she is absolutely hideous. Her weaponized incompetence grinds my gears, and yes, the fact that she is putting a vulnerable, recently orphaned minor through hell in the hopes of a profit is certainly morally evil, but it’s mostly that face and horrible, bottle-dyed hairstyle (did they have bottle dye in the 1930s?). Richard Topham is just a loon with the stiffest, most awkward posture I’ve ever seen. I can’t stand conversing with either of them.

My god, just look at that face.

6. This is a weird period for the ND characters. I feel like the devs were trying something out here? They are so blurry, their movements so unnatural. I think Her is on the prescipice of improved animation, but they aren’t quite there yet.

7. Puzzles I enjoyed: Bard’s Bounce (taken from some of the earlier games, and I enjoy it every time). The pies (love a good logic puzzle, and those things looked delicious). Using the HAM radio to talk to Josiah’s old radio friends (Josiah seemed like an interesting guy, so I actually enjoyed this aspect of the story-telling).

Puzzles I did not enjoy: Mini-golf (I saw recently somewhere that you should save between each hole you get par on, so that if you fail the next hole you can just open your old save. This is absolutely genius and would have saved me so much heartache. Why is this game so hard? Why is “I hit it too hard” the only thing Nancy knows how to say in this entire segment?). Sewing the dress (this is, first of all, not how sewing works at all). Topham’s idiotic guess-the-card challenge (did I mention how much of an idiot this guy is?).

8. The number of times I had to watch some of these cut-scenes, like the golf ball on the train or the shed’s attic opening up, was excessive. I appreciate the animations, but don’t make me watch it 10 times in a row.

9. I found it absolutely hilarious that at the end of the game, when you’re chasing Jane around town, if you lose her or fail to cut her off at the state line, the newspapers somehow make it your fault. Not hers for committing fraud, or for grand theft, but yours, a random teenager, for not driving like enough of a maniac as you for some reason take law enforcement into your own hands.

I wish I had more positive things to say about this game. It's a nice change of pace, coming on the heels of Curse of Blackmoor Manor. It’s fun. It’s cute. It just isn’t my favorite. Curse of Blackmoor is probably my all-time favorite, and Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon is up there too, so CLK is a bit of a bump in the road for me.

Wednesday Addams - Rave'N dress

11/30/2022

In the third episode of Wednesday on Netflix, the titular character attends a Sadie Hawkins all-white prom. She wears a dress, ostensibly reposessed, by Thing, from the local oddities and antiques shop, that is in fact a vintage nylon blend Alaïa gown sourced by costuming super-star Colleen Atwood.

I was torn about costuming anything from the show, but after seeing the dance montage, I couldn't reasonably keep her off the list. It's going to be a great costume for dance parties at cons, and I'm particlarily interested in wearing it with my friend who cosplays as Number Five from The Umbrella Academy.

I had to go to to Youtube for details of the dress, so pardon the screencaps below.

The Material:

The material is what most cosplayers would refer to as organza, and I assume Ms. Atwood called it nylon so as to distinguish it from its fancier cousin, silk organza.

The first article linked states that it is actually a mottled black-brown tye-dye, but as brown is my least favorite color on the planet, I will be using plain black organza, perhaps with a touch of a color-shift fabric on a sub-layer to add some visual intrigue (pizazz, you might say.)

The structure of the dress, from the top down:

Notably, there are no seams running accross the shoulder in the transparent yoke. This means the replica will need to be created with the pattern shoulders taped together.

The center back will also need to be on the fold, to avoid showing a seam.

Then, the above-bust flounce. From the back view above, we can see there are two lines of ruffle. These could be integrated into the pattern, but I'll likely tack them straight onto the dress bodice, trim the seam allowance, and cover with some braid.

From the back view, we can see the interior non-transparent dress is:

structured like a corset

posessed of straps

not attached to the transparent yoke

Ergo, it is effectively two dresses. Now, I'm in a bit of a rush, and I like things to be easy, breezy, covergirl.

Therefore.

I'll be making one dress, thanks very much.

By layering the interior solid fabric and the exterior organza on all pattern pieces, and making a unified garment, the complexity will decrease - no corseting required - and the edge binding/lining will be more complete. Organza is itchy, and this is for the best.

So:

Snug fit bodice

Transparent yoke

Collar and front placket, down to waist

Under-arm zip (b/c no back zip) if you don't want a full front placket

I'll be avoiding a back zipper, just because of the transparent yoke. usually, I'm all for faking the buttons and slapping a zipper on the back, but I'd like to maintain the smooth look and collar, given that she''s wearing her hair up.

The solid material would best be something with a low stretch profile and a little heft. I've been on a denim kick recently, because it's cotton with built in interfacing, but something with a little shine might be better.

I'll call it 1-1/2 yards for the bodice + 1 yd (conservative) for the ruffle.

Now, onto the skirt.

From this objectively terrible screencap, we can see that the skirt is:

Ankle length

Floofy

Gather-tiered

Has at least three layers

I can tell that the skirt is tiered and gathered because of the stripes of texture I can see in the image, roughly 4" and 10" down the skirt from the waistline. It's also the only explanation for the sheer volume of the dress, as we can see when she kicks at the 0:16-0:19 mark in the dance scene.

I see two layers - edges that stick up, not at the hem - at 1/3 and 2/3 down the skirt length in the video. It looks like they might be asymetric, but I'm not about that life, so I'll be ignoring that possibility. These are two layers on top of the base layer skirt.

Three layers of organza + modesty layer.

The modesty layer would be simplest to costruct out of cotton - it runs through the machine quickly, and gathers well. But, it can be stiff, and catch on itself.

To maintain the floofy flow, I think I'll use something thin, slinky, and soft.

Their skirt is for a 40" hip, so I'll need a bit more, but I won't be needing it quite as long, so i'll need a bit less. How much more or less? No clue. I'm not doing the math, it's easier to do with just folding the fabric.

The yardage here sums to 5.6 yards, So I'll aim for 6.5 yards. But wait... that's just the base skirt!!

With a skirt layer at 2/3 the length, I'll need the top U, M1, M2 + 1/2 of M3.

With a skirt layer at 1/3 the length, I'll need U, M1 + 1/2 of the M2 layer.

Ergo, I need: 10-1/2 yards for the skirt 💀

3 U : 3 * 3/4 = 2.25

3 M1 : 3 * 5/8 = ~2

2-1/2 M2 : 2.5 * 7/8 = ~2

1-1/2M3 : 1.5 * 1-1/2 = 2.25

1 L : 1 * 1-7/8 = ~2

This math does have some wiggle room, but it's better to over-estimate than under-estimate. This skirt is big, team. I'll be visiting the dollar discount alley (I love you, Seoul) Before I try to get it anywhere else.

Joyously, with a skirt this big, a little pocket can go unnoticed. Unfortunately, with all the layers and gathering, having a side slit to access a pocket on an interior layer would not work too well, as it would be hard to access.

Might as well wear leggings with side pockets, and just hitch the whole shebang up if access is needed. Given the belt, could add a (small) fanny pack to it. That would work very well.

Oh, anyone interested in vintage microcomputers and older technology and who has very deep pockets should know there's an Apple I on ebay as of this writing.

Known as the "Schlumberger 2" Apple I, it was one of two computers purchased by an executive at Schlumberger Overseas circa 1977 and taken to Europe; those two were probably the first Apple products used outside North America. It's been in the collection of Jimmy Grewal of Dubai, and it's in complete working order with almost all its original parts, and with a contemporary Cherry keyboard, tape drive, and monitor. In 2021, Steve Wozniak was asked to sign it; his signature is on the white ceramic 6502 processor just above the 3-6 keys.

Grewal is auctioning this one off to help fund his "AAPL Collection", which describes itself as "one of the most comprehensive private collections of vintage Apple computers and accessories in the world"; he wants to make it more available to the public via either pop-up exhibitions or a larger, permanent venue.

With eight days left in the bidding, the price stands at just over $100k (US), but hey, free shipping.
