Vintage Web-Tex vest with some custom painting arrived. Seller claimed it was used by either Spanish or British special forces in the early 2000s, which isn’t out of the realm of possibility and it is pretty worn, but then again every captured K98k was taken off a dead SS sniper.  A great example of my favorite kind of old tactical gear, where it does not matter what caliber you’re running or how many mags you’re carrying because your kit has a dozen pockets and pouches that will fit just about anything.

reddie au where richie is an obnoxious paranormal investigator/ghost hunter and eddie is a ghost who haunts the old neibolt house, apparently the most haunted building in all of derry. eddie usually has pretty good tactics for keeping people away from his house (you know, with all the blood on the walls and and the spiders in the corners and the smell of death wafting through the house at all times), but of course that doesn’t stop these assholes from showing up, with their “ghost hunting gear” and their cameras and ouija boards. eddie usually doesn’t like to entertain them, he’ll knock over a glass or slam a door shut just to get them out of the house faster.

but when richie comes in…. eddie almost completely blows his cover as a ghost and makes himself appear because richie sits down on the old sofa covered in decades worth of mud and grime and probably other things and it’s disgusting and he writes his name along with a crude drawing on the century-old original vintage wallpaper of the living room and he takes a piss in the bathroom and starts rummaging through every cabinet and closet he can find for “ghost proof”, and about ten other things that he thinks will get him good views for his youtube channel….. until eddie finally has enough and can’t help him himself as he makes himself appear to scold this guy about “having no common decency, did your mother never teach you manners??? how would you like it if i came into your house and took a whizz in your toilet huh? how would you like if i drew a dick on your bedroom wall??? who raised you?????”

meanwhile richie is absolutely freaking the fuck out, because yeah he started ghost hunting because it was kind of fun and because it did well on youtube, but he never expected to see a real, a real, fucking ghost. a real life ghost, who is getting scolding him for… writing on the walls? and even more confusing….. richie actually feels bad about it??

The Asset does not comply with an order because he has a memory that comes to him through space and time.

“What is the problem?” asked the HYDRA agent as they stepped into the preparation room. “Why is the order not being delivered?” 

The lackeys standing around the sparse room looked at one another and then at their commanding officer. 

“The Asset is not — he is not complying.” 

“Did you repeat the code words in the correct succession?”  

“Yes.” 

“Then what is happening?” 

“We deliver the code words, show him the dossiers on the targets, and then he falters.” 

“Falters? Explain. Now.” 

“We show him the information on the EXO-7 Program. He digests the information on the first target, but when we show him the pictures of the second target, he refuses.” 

“Refuses?” 

“Yes. The Winter Soldier programming fails. He reverts to his original state.” 

“How?” 

“He insists he knows the target. Insists he remembers him. Refuses to neutralize him.” 

“That’s unacceptable. And ludicrous. Air National Guard airman Sam Wilson is a nobody. He is an obstacle, yes. But he is no one of importance. The Asset is malfunctioning. Wipe him.” 

“We have, Commander. We have wiped the Asset three times now. Every time he sees the picture of the second target, he falters and refuses. I’ve never seen anything like it. I fear if we send him on this mission, he will not comply. What do we do?” 

The agent was contemplative for a moment, eyes locked onto the Soldier.  

“Show me.” 

The lackey nodded and then recited the code words. 

“Ready to comply,” said the Soldier, eyes glazed and vacant.  

The lackey handed the dossier over and the Soldier took it. 

“Your mission is as follows: Commit their likenesses to memory. Enter the combat zone undetected. Neutralize the targets.” 

The Soldier glanced at the dossier before looking at the images pinned to the documents. First the tactical gear, wing packs, and then the headshots. He spent a moment looking at airman Riley, then at airman Wilson. Then it happened, as it had thrice before. The Soldier’s hand began to shake as he brought the photo closer to his eyes. He traced his finger over Wilson’s face, then discarded the folder all together, tossing it aside to the floor. 

“No,” he said, sounding less like the Soldier, and more like Sergeant Barnes. “No. I can’t. I won’t. I know him. I know him.” 

He struggled against the straps fixed to his chest. His breathing became harsh. His eyes glossed over, and dread enveloped his entire countenance.  

“No!” he bellowed, thrashing violently against his restraints. “Where is he? If you hurt him, I’ll kill you! I'll fucking kill you!” 

“Sedate him!” the agent commanded. “Sedate him and wipe him.” 

An operative pressed a button that released a sedative into the Soldier’s system, effectively causing him to grow drowsy. 

“No,” he whispered as a tear fell from his eye. “No.” 

“Wipe him and put him back in cryostasis. He is useless to us like this,” the Commander spat. “Get one of the others and ensure the process is completed.” 

“Sam,” the Soldier murmured as he lost consciousness. "Sam."

"So, um," Jody said, sitting up on the couch and hitting him in the thigh with the back of her hand. "What's happening over there?"

"This one is supposed to be, quote, 'dry, crisp, and undeniably fresh with characteristic notes of citrus, pineapple, and floral.'" Jody snickered. "I used to use a deodorant that was described like that."

Sam clinked his glass against hers, after missing contact on the first try since he was mostly lying down on his end of the couch. "Here's to smelling great." He hiccuped once.

"Hell yeah." Jody hiccuped twice. She sat with a vague look in her eyes and eventually sighed. "The girls own so many… Products." 

She only slurred her words a little, and Sam took a moment to admire her for it. 

"I bet," he said, thinking vaguely of the bag Jess had used for her makeup and skin care routines. It was, like, on the level of a tactical gear box. Sturdy and filled to the brim.

He took another long, long drink of something the bottle said was Darla’s Vineyard Dry Traminette, vintage 2010. It tasted somewhat like flat vinaigrette, but hey, he loved salads.

Except no, he didn't, he ate them because he was supposed to. Vegetables did make him feel better, maybe because he didn't have Dean's inherent fear of them. Tonight no-one had made any overly wise choices about consumption. The greasy remnants of a half dozen gigantic cream cheese garlic bread blossoms, or whatever the hell they were called, remained within reach. He grabbed the larger of the two remaining crusts, popped it in his mouth, and chewed. Nothing nutritious happening in there for sure. Washed it down with another half glass of lukewarm salad dressing.

"So, um," Jody said, sitting up on the couch and hitting him in the thigh with the back of her hand. "What's happening over there?"

He swerved around to peer through the dim light at the dining room table. Jack, on one side, was clearly sleeping, his head on the table and his hand still curled around a small glass bottle of Coca-Cola. 

Sam smiled to himself. He used to love those little bottles of Coke. They felt like a treat in the motel room, any motel room, like something normal any kid might be drinking while they watched old Looney Toons on an old tube TV on vacation. That's all they were, right? On holiday. Taking in the sights the country over. One stale cigarette smoke scented-room after the next, after the next. 

"I meant that," Jody clarified, pointing more precisely with her index finger at the other side of the table.

Sitting up, Sam ran a hand over his face. Now he had cream cheese in his eyebrow. He scrubbed at that while squinting at the source of Jody's curiosity.

"Seems like things have escalated," Jody said, before trying to shake the last few drops out of the wine bottle directly into her mouth. "How's about that?"

Sam stared at the other two people at the dining room table and then stared some more.

Cas and Dean sat facing each other, talking so softly Sam couldn't really hear what they were saying. Dean's face was all animation as he told Cas some kind of story; Cas's expression was intent when he responded. It could've been any other time Sam had ever looked over at them being thick as thieves, except it wasn't: Jack had awoken Cas in the Empty only a few weeks ago, and Cas had been so irritating the Empty had spat him out, and Dean…wasn't dead. Hadn't stayed dead either, Sam corrected silently. 

Dean often talked with his hands. He wasn't doing that at the moment. One hand was on Cas's knee, the other in Cas's hand. 

Cas said something – unintentionally – that made Dean laugh silently and hang his head as if overcome by the hilarity. Cas smiled too, looking down at their joined hands, and when Dean stopped laughing they just…just…

Oh shit, Sam thought, a laugh bubbling in his own chest. They were fucking gazing at each other. Like people on dates did. Like people in love did.

They looked quietly happy. 

"Just now figured it out, huh?" Jody snickered, patting Sam on the head. She reached over the arm of the couch on her end and magically brought up a new bottle of wine. It rolled around on the cushions as she fished beneath them, finding the corkscrew that had gotten embedded in a pillow with great triumph. "Ah ha! Want another drink?"

this mystery lady i picked up cuz she had 1997 DC comics stamped on. obviously Kenner but i dunno what from somehow?? looked her up an she's a Lt. Sparks from the Shaq Steel movie. i didn't know they made a toyline for it! an i mean i haven't.. watched the movie. she's Shaq/Steel's tech support an she uses a wheelchair and according to her DC wiki she was actually based on Oracle. so there's that. they gave the figure of her tactical/military gear(which ties into her backstory as she was apparently with Shaq in the military an was injured,but i'm pretty sure she doesn't actually wear this in the movie. but then again 90s toyline) and a 'Mobile Defense Power Chair' which of course has a big cannon. which is definitely somethin. it's pretty neat that they made a figure of the "girl character" in the toyline at all though.

Retro Camouflage's Return to Popularity?

It came to my attention several years ago, while browsing in a sporting goods store, a camouflage pattern I hadn't seen since my youth. As I looked at the design hanging on the rack, a flood of nostalgia came over me. That pattern was MossyOak Bottomlands.

Military Start

In order to see where we are with the revival of retro camouflage, we must take a look at its history. The first military use of a breakup style camo was in WWII with M1942 used by the Marine Corps.

M1942 Camouflage Pattern. Also referred to as Frog Skin.

After WWII, soldiers returning home either used black and red buffalo plaid for hunting, or made use of the surpluses of the M1942 pattern by incorporating it into their hunting and sporting needs. It would become known as "Duck Hunter" and "Brown Camo" by its users. The popularity of the pattern, especially among duck and bird hunters, saw that it would be copied and used up until the early 90s by some companies.

My vintage Columbia Gortex Hunting Jacket in "Duck Hunter" pattern. This was put out by Columbia from the late 1970s-early 1990s.

Like with M1942 the surplus market would give, and still gives, hunters a way to break up their outlines. Tiger Stripe, ERDL, and M81 woodland are patterns tried and used by many. Even up into the 90s, it wasn't uncommon around rural Northwest Georgia, where I live, to see M81 surplus being used in the deer woods.

Rise of the Commercial Market

The first attempt at making a commercial camouflage pattern, not based on military design, was TreBark. In the early 1970s, Jim Crumley a bow hunter from Virginia decided that the surplus patterns available thru mail-order and surplus stores weren't enough. By using a gray color base, and odorless brown and black markers, the first commercial pattern TreBark was born. It would take off for success in 1983 when Cabela's offered it in the fall catalog.

In 1986, two other big names would enter the arena. MossyOak and RealTree. Like with Ford vs. Chevrolet, or Remington vs. Winchester, MossyOak and RealTree would start a debate on which pattern is better for years to come. Both Companies would evolve from the original patterns, and offer several different styles to fit the environment the hunter would be in. As manufacturing and technology advances, a lot of these patterns are 3D and in HD these days.

Current Times and Revival of Retro Patterns.

With all the advances in camouflage these days, it's exciting for a retro lover such as myself to see a revival of the old-school patterns. With MossyOak bringing back bottomlands, Drake offering what they are calling Old School; to folks customizing their boats, guns, and even tactical equipment in retro patterns, it's a welcome bit of nostalgia in today's shooting and sporting world. The trend toward using old-school camouflage for personalization and simpler practicality, over more recent offerings, I believe is part of the revival. It's easier to customize guns and equipment for example in the older and more basic patterns, when using paint, Cerakote, or coatings such as Alumahyde. Another part is just the cool factor and nostalgia it brings. There are several smaller companies offering retro type camouflage accessories, giving folks an option to style their guns or gear that way. JunkyardOps and Flatline Fiber Co. shown below are two of many examples of these type companies, and you can find a lot of options to do custom coatings in whatever pattern you want from Brownells. Either way, whatever pattern you decide on, be it old military or commercial camouflage, I believe it's a welcome sight in today's time!

The device can locate the exact location of the bullet from a distance of 400 meters which will help to locate and neutralize terrorist faster. The Indian Army is seeking to acquire 80,000 new ballistic helmets that provide greater protection against high-velocity bullets.

According to the service, the helmet must be capable of protecting troops from 7.62×39-millimeter mild steel core bullets at a range of 10 meters (32.8 feet). It must also lessen the impact of high-speed blast fragments from explosives.

Army officers explained that a 7.62-millimeter rifle bullet is more lethal than a nine-millimeter bullet fired from a pistol or submachine gun. The reported muzzle velocity of a 7.62-millimeter AK-47 assault rifle is 2,350 feet (716 meters) per second, almost twice the 1,312 feet (399 meters) per second speed of an MP-5 submachine gun bullet.

The protective gear should also incorporate tactical rails to attach additional equipment, including night vision devices, face visors, flashlights, and in-service radio communication sets.

The indigenous content of the helmet must be at least 50 percent.

“With the threat of 7.62×39-millimeter bullets to the troops, there is a need to induct ballistic helmets with higher protection parameters,” the request for proposals states, adding that the evolving threats along the country’s borders with China and Pakistan necessitate protection against high-speed rifle bullets and blast fragments.

Of the 80,000 ballistic helmets that the Indian army seeks to procure, 3,600 will be allocated for troops deployed on anti-terrorist operations.
