Chibi Utsubo Kaeru Frog Vinyl Artist Gacha (Series 19) by Scartula and Medicom

When I graduated the fifth grade, last year of elementary school in my district, my teacher wrote a note on my final report card: “Leave The Toys at Home”. You see, at the time I had a trio of plush toys that went EVERYWHERE with me, and by age 10 I guess I was expected to grow out of that— especially when aging up into **middle school**. At the time I didn’t know the phrase “Fuck You”, but I sure felt it in that moment.

Anyways, today I received the VAG pitcher plant frogs in the mail, and the whole set went to diner with me because I love them. This specific frog has Very chaotic vibes.

I’m 28.

I recently brought these guys down from the wall display, and I really wanted to show them off together.

All 3 are from Medicom's V.A.G. line - Vinyl Artists Gacha.

Each wave features a single sculpt with 5 different decos. All by the same artist. This opens up such an incredible palette for creative designs, inventive uses of space, and subtle homages. The different paint applications can also highlight different parts of the sculpt.

They're sold in capsules or blind boxes, and they're very inexpensive. A great line to collect if you're into unique and interesting figures.

Kamen Rider Converge

Heart is one of my favorite Heisei Kamen Rider villain designs - and he's a great character. I'm not as a big a fan of the Gold upgrade coloring, but this figure just pops on that shelf.

Mini Sofubi Ultraman (gray type)

A thrift store find from Book Off - one of the Marusan mini reissues. It was in excellent condition, and it was cheap - so I had to pick it up. Really great feel to the vinyl on this one. A great and truly retro style figure.

 

Dragon Ball Styling

Bandai had a great line with Dragon Ball Styling. They were inexpensive statues sold as candy toys - essentially impulse items at Japanese stores. Slightly more detailed and larger than a gashapon, they were a great way to get nice minifigures of some classic characters for a very reasonable price.
