okay time to over psychoanalyze sbahj

i've seen people talking about this one before, but i find it pretty interesting. 'i feel down the stairs' is a stereotypical excuse used by domestic violence victims, and hussie has stated that he considered dave's living situation domestic violence. i think the 'it keeps happening' adds to that idea.

to me, it seems like this is (at least in the beginning) a reference to dave's rivalry with bro, with dave being hella jeff (the guy in the blue) and bro being the big man. hella jeff (/dave) starts out as the star of his own dream, then the big man (/bro) comes for a 'one on one', in the case of sbahj referring to basketball but in the case of dave's real life probably referring to strifes. the big man absolutely destroys jeff, there's no chance of jeff winning in this situation (similar to how dave never won strifes against bro). however, even then he is looking up to the big man, and is more impressed by his skill than anything.

me: yes eleven seasons to depict a three-year war could be considered overlong and there’s an argument to be made about the exhaustion felt in the later seasons, especially as the messaging became blurrier and the actors visibly aged into their late 40s, but there’s a lot to take from the structure about the repetitive nature of war, trauma, and insulated environments, the way it wears down everyone until even the most idealistic don’t know how to interact with good and bad and in/sanity anymore, and there’s an inherent tragedy to never letting them leave, until the very idea that there might be an end is itself a form of horror, an exhalation, or some kind of death-

Ok but hold on! I made a post about OFMD sybolism, especially Ed and the Kraken... but I’m so stupid I didn’t even consider:

If Ed’s Blackbeard/Kraken persona rappresents the toxic masculinity he carries within, he actually developed it because HE HAD TO GET RID OF THE TOXIC MALE FIGURE IN HIS LIFE in the first place.

He kills his abusive father but in that act he feels corrupted. He feels like he inevitably inherited hi father’s violence and his being irredeemable.

God season 3 of daredevil is even better than I remember
