July 6, 2020 - Cozumel Vireo (Vireo bairdi)
Found only on Mexico’s Cozumel Island, these vireos live in scrubby woodland, shrubland, and thickets. They forage in low and middle levels of vegetation, but the specifics of their diet are unknown. Breeding between May and July, they build cup-shaped nests from plant fibers, spiderwebs, dry leaves, lichen, bark, rootlets, and grass, hung from forked tree branches. Classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN, they may be vulnerable to habitat loss from development and climate change in their small range.
