Our journey through Northern Pakistan comes to a close in the Skardu District. Here, we explore the stunning cold desert, a serene lake with golden fallen leaves, and a 400-year-old mosque that still serves its purpose. We also stayed at a fort that was once the home of the Raja!
Be sure to watch the video we filmed at the end of our story.

about your taqiiyah post, have you ever practiced it before?
Context: Taqiyya (=religious dissimulation) is a Shi'a Islamic concept or doctrine which allows a Shi'a to hide their faith in the face of persecution or life-threatening circumstances. It is obligatory to assume Taqiyyah, and it is haraam to die for your faith rather than to conceal your faith if it can prevent your death. While martyrdom is virtuous, self-perservation is prioritized.
Yes, I did while I was in Pakistan. My mom comes from Peshawar, which is a hotbed for Taliban & DAESH loyalists and sympathizers. Since Shi'a Muslims are persecuted in Pakistan, particularly in the Khyber-Pakthuwali region, I had to conceal my faith and act like a Sunni Muslim while I was there.

I’m not mentioning the country I’m currently in but Subhanallah these people are the rudest people I’ve seen in my entire life. Yes, it’s a Muslim majority country. You ask them for directions, they turn you away by showing you the hand ✋. You ask recommendations, they turn you away. The least friendliest people. You helping out another person, especially a traveler, is a good deed(s) for you. But not only did you lose out on a good deed, you gained a sin for showing your pridefulness and ego. Not to mention constant ripping off and nearly everyone here is a chain smoker, even smoking right in the courtyard of the masjid which quite scary to think about…you’re in the masjid! 😷
May Allah guide us to what is good and allow us to embody prophetic characteristics, ameen.

"I'm a citizen of the world" very nice & very poetic idea. Now what are you doing about the responsibility you actually hold re: the country that has actually granted you citizenship

 ضروری ہے تصویر لینا بھی
آئینہ گزرے ہوئے لمحے نہیں دِکھاتا
zaroori hai tasweer lena bhi,
aina guzre huwe lamhe nahin dekhata
(it is necessary to take photos too,
the mirror does not show moments that have passed)
