A visit to Wren's Apothecary... Irish Moss is actually not moss but a seaweed. is widely believed to have the power to bring about good fortune in all sorts of money matters, both through business success. Being seaweed, Irish Moss is associated with the ocean and sea magic. You can offer some back to the sea to call upon the elements. It can be used to call forth a storm. 21 Ways To Be Happier 🕊
1)Open a new bar of soap. There is an unerring pleasure in unwrapping a bar of Savon de Marseille, choosing between the vanilla, the fleur de oranger, or a jasmin, to pierce the doldrums of just another Wednesday evening. The same principal applies to opening any other product or self care item, maybe a new musk and tuberose perfume or a beguiling French fig candle.
2) Moonbathe, trust that the universe is a master apothecary, appeal to the scintillating shimmers of the lunar personality, to clear your senses in ways that the ordinary sun light obscures.
3) Dance especially after crying, or even while in the midst of tears.
4) Plant new seeds as your future self will be happy, even as your heart might feel as hard as an avocado pit.
5) Take a swim for we negotiate the water, with ancient senses that obliterate the unfounded sadnesses that often accompany our new ones.
6) Get lost in a carefree daydream. Perhaps of being able to fly away like a dove, knowing the sky, loving the breezes and remembering the clouds.
7) Make a dish that reminds you of happy times, such as after a subtropical monsoon storm, with the parrots rejoicing in the mango perfumed atmosphere, by conjuring a fragrant ghee, cardamom and turmeric laced kitchuri.
8) Forage for branches or wildflowers. Bringing in a token of nature, such a a stalk of eucalyptus leaves, or a cutting of sweet alyssum, reminds us of how fragile, momentous and brief life is, and that our worries today are but the regretted wastes of time, tomorrow.
9) Practice yoga, even a half a dozen plus one poses, in a palo santo perfumed room, offers the remedy for almost any woe.
10) Message an old friend to offer love, commiserations and support. We sometimes need a genuine reminder that despite all evidence to the contrary, we are not alone.
11) Pray or meditate to reach higher realms where the fading pleas for happiness are heard.
12) Create something beautiful, perhaps a garland of paper moons, a feather, lace and jute macrame hanging or a new handmade and painted wooden garden stool.
13) Write a note to someone, that is memorable, appreciative or complimentary. We alter the future with words, more than we can comprehend.
14) Look for clues in nature, such as noticing a pair of baby butterflies flying over a bush of lemon yellow trumpet vines, or the couple of cactus wrens who visit the garden.
15) Learn a new language for both happiness and sorrow is woven with poignant, rich and faceted meanings, nuances and character, in the different tongues. The variations help us understand each more carefully to provide solace and to savor le joie.
16) Let go of something, whether it’s an idea of how you thought your life would be, living in a cultural center, with lots of friends, events and innumerable distractions, but finding yourself in a desert ensconced, petite balcony garden, with stars, quarter moons and palm trees as loyal, abiding companions.
17) Look more carefully at the elements that you find most often in your presence, for that reveals the components of your soul, perhaps they are litigiously precarious piles of books, old letters, votives of flowers, candles or art.
18) Acquire, purchase, curate, bargain or source pieces for your collections. One shouldn’t deny themselves the joy of another set of pearl stud earrings, Gallimard books, wind-chimes, blue and white china, Persian carpets, seashells, or whatever entity that enriches the experience of being alive.
19) Leave notes and pressed flowers in between books, in purses and pockets. For in days to come, one might drift into the stream of gossamer dust, just as a hard lump threatens in your throat.
20) Play solo piano or romantic guitar music, the singular language of the melodies can obliterate pain in mysterious, evocative and ethereal ways.
21) Remember your blessings, even as they appear disguised. These years of tedious desk jobs, little children, retreating goal posts, aging parents and unforeseeable paths, might be the happiest memories one day. ✨

Prompt #24- Unctuous
FFXIV 30 Day Writing Challenge Hosted by @sea-wolf-coast-to-coast Even with its gates open to all, Rae did not care much for Eulmore. The upper levels of the city were too high, and expectations of their denizens even higher. He thought he'd never finish with his last patient when his every recommendation was shot down without consideration by her father. In the end, her gratitude, in the form of a shadow of a smile, more than made up for everything. It was the only thing that mattered.
The mystel leaned on his staff as he waited for a crowd of soon-to-be Beehive patrons to clear the stairwell. He only needed to visit the apothecary in the lower levels before he could leave this place. So very close now. However, he perked an ear as he heard someone call his name.
"Ah, so very glad I caught you in time! You forgot your payment!" A tall mystel shoved a coin purse of gil into Rae's face the moment he turned.
"Kai-Mosch. Did I now?," Rae said, fully aware that they both knew he had already been paid. Once the other man had backed away, Rae held the money nearly at arm's length.
The taller mystel laughed, though Rae was unsure what could possibly have been that funny. "Ah. Rae-Hann. May I call you Hann?"
"I don’t believe we’re well enough acquainted for that."
"As I was saying, Hann," Kai-Mosch pressed on, drowning out Rae's retort, "my dear girl doesn't take a shine to people often. Can you blame her? Aha. So frail, even a stiff breeze will send her abed. She can't handle too much excitement." He threw an arm around Rae's shoulders, lowering his voice conspiratorially. "Would you believe me if I told you she has spoken more words since you left her bedside than she has in two years?
Recalling the sorts of horrors he had seen lurking in the woman's subconscious, Rae wouldn't say he didn't believe it per se. "She's had a difficult life."
"Isn't that a fact, my good lad. See, now, stars above I've had an idea. Now that there is a future for our good city-"
The other mystel's words grew faint, the bright colors of the hall muted. It was happening again, even though there was no nearby dreamer. It didn't make sense. Why. And that was the last thought that he could recall before the barrage of otherworldly dreams began.
A land of shattered crystal as far as the eye could see. Islands floating above towering mountain ranges. A desert city, spires and domes rising above the encircling wall. Places that did not and never have existed as far as he could tell.
"-only glad it was a clever chap such as yourself that caught her eye!"  Kai-Mosch gave one of his thunderous roars of laughter once more.
"I- What?" Rae shook his head as the dreams faded. It was at that moment that he spotted a drahn by the aetheryte that hadn’t been there before. It looked very much like-
"All right there, Hann? Went a touch pale. Surely aren't afraid of commitment! We're a wealthy family, and my gal's quite the looker if I do say so myself. And I do! An offer like this doesn't come twice!"
"I'm sorry?" After taking a moment to piece together this information, Rae stepped out of the other mystel's grasp with a polite nod. After Kai-Mosch's previous confrontational attitude, this was an unexpected turn of events. His daughter was a wonderful woman, but... "Oh. I'm happily married, but thank you for the consideration."
Kai-Mosch froze, his toothy grin lingering for longer than was comfortable before his expression fell. "Ah. What's that now?"
"I wish you all the best," Rae said quickly, returning the gil to Kai-Mosch before making his way toward the aetheryte. He barely even registered the other mystel's following fit of indignation. It wasn't as if it were a total lie, and the part that was could be temporary. He glanced down to the tri-colored braid of cord around his right wrist before he reached for the drahn's arm. "Wren?"
It wasn't. Even before the man turned fully, Rae could tell that he had never seen this person before. The drahn stared at him, eyes wide. "Where am I? This some new room at the Gold Saucer?”

A visit to Wren's Apothecary...
Along with all the magic of cherries (I'm biased, as I love them!), cherry pits are no for tossing once that cherry is eaten.
The pits can be used as divination and fortune telling aids, and can even be carved if you have the patience.
In spell bottles, cherry pits can be used in place of poisons.
And, again with the carving, the pits can be carved (or drawn on) to enchantment them as poisonous talismans.

A visit to Wren's apothecary... Folklore: Milk-thistle is a strikingly beautiful member of its family - with its sharply serrated, white veined leaves they cannot be overlooked. The name ‘Milk-thistle’ refers to a legend according to which 3 drops of holy milk from the Virgin’s breast is said to have dropped on to the leaf, forever marking it as an herb of our Lady (formerly known as the Great Goddess). In rural areas of Mediterranean countries thistles are still commonly eaten as vegetables. The most eminent member of the thistle family, the artichoke, has even conquered the plates and palates of the most discerning gourmands around the world. The Milk-thistle lacks the large globular flower bud of its cousin, but is just as edible and perhaps even more wholesome. What we particularly appreciate about this herb are not its petals but its seeds. Magical Uses; Snake Enraging. An herb of protection and vitality. A bowlful placed in a room strengthens the spirits and renews vitality. One may be carried for added strength and energy. They offer protection when grown in the garden or carried in the pocket. Throwing them into a fire will deflect lightning away from your home. Wearing a garment made from thistle will break any spell. Poppets are also stuffed with thistle to break spells. Use in healing spells and for depression. It is said that when a man carries one he becomes a better lover. A method of calling spirits is to boil some thistle. After removing it from the heat, be seated next to the bowl and begin meditating. As the steam rises, so will your questions and their answers will be heard. A bowl of thistle in a room strengthens the spirits and renews vitalizes within. Carry it for strength and energy. Grown in a garden it wards off thieves. Grow in a pot by your doorstep to protect against evil. Keep in your pocket it guards you. Throw it in the fire to ward off lighting. If you have a spell cast against you wear a garment made of spun thistle. Stuff poppets with it to break hexes. Thistle is used in any magic where you are the target of any negative energy;, for protection and blessing. Thistles are used in healing spells, and when men wear it they become better lovers. Thistles also drive out melancholy when worn or carried. In England they used the tallest thistle as a magical wand or walking stick. To call spirits, place some thistle in boiling water. Remove from heat and lie or sit beside it. As the steam rises call the spirits and listen carefully; they may answer your question. All information in my posts are for informational purposes only. A visit to Wren's Apothecary... Frankincense is one of the oldest documented magical resins–it’s been traded in northern Africa and parts of the Arab world for nearly five thousand years. Said to be worth more than gold, it has a distinctive aroma and, heck, even has 'incense' in its very name. Back in 2008, researchers completed a study on the impact of frankincense on depression and anxiety. Pharmacologists at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem said evidence indicates that the aroma of frankincense might help regulate emotions such as anxiety and depression. Research shows that lab mice exposed to frankincense were more willing to spend time in open areas, where they typically feel more vulnerable. Scientists say this indicates a drop in levels of anxiety. In modern magical traditions, frankincense is often used as a purifier – burn the resin to cleanse a sacred space, or use the essential oils* to anoint an area that needs to be purified. Because it is believed that the vibrational energies of frankincense are particularly powerful, many people mix frankincense with other herbs to give them a magical boost. Many people find that it makes a perfect incense to use during meditation, energy work, or chakra exercises such as opening the third eye. In some belief systems, frankincense is associated with good fortune in business–carry a few bits of resin in your pocket when you go to a business meeting or interview. Because of its association with Yule, Frankincense is included in my Yule / Winter Solstice Pocket Altars.

A visit to Wren's Apothecary...
Sea Salt is the best salt for magical spells, along with kosher salt. Table salt has added iodine, which can dampen the magical properties of the salt.
Sea salt can create magical barriers and wards against negativity or 'evil'. Doorways, window frames, crossroads... salt is very protective.
Sea salt can also absorb negative energy. Salt bowls, with additions of juniper berries and rosemary, can be placed around the home, or work place, to absorb negative energy. These should be replaced occasionally to dispose of the energies collected.
Being associated with the ocean, sea salt can be added to holy water to boost its power. And, water mixed with sea salt recalls both amniotic fluid and the primordial ocean from which we emerged, for magical workings for new beginnings, birthing new projects, and fertility.

A visit to Wren's Apothecary... White Oak Bark is used for healing, protection, luck, protection, and fertility spells. It lends strength to magic and charms, and aids in removing negative magic. It is highly astringent and drying, and was an ingredient in Druid's tea. As an incense, it is also said to remove unsettled spirits or ghosts from a house or place of business. Suggested magical uses: *Burn on a charcoal as an incense. *Sprinkle around a room or property. *Add to a bath for spiritual cleansing. *Carry in a mojo bag along with other herbs and talismans. *Sprinkle on or around a spell candle. *Add to a spiritual oil. And, because Oak is associated with Yule, White Oak Bark is one of the herbs in my Yule / Winter Solstice Pocket Altars.

A visit to Wren's Apothecary... Blue Pea Flowers are pretty magical all by themselves. Butterfly Pea Flower tea is full of potent antioxidants, lowering blood pressure, and has even been studied for its ability to help protect the skin against premature aging (it fights against glycation, which is protein damage caused by an influx of sugar molecules). In addition, I associate blue pea flowers with magic itself. In a tea, the flower tea changes color based on the pH of the liquid. A drop of lemon juice, for example, turns the drink purple. So, for me, I associate it with transformation and intentional change. All information in my posts are for informational purposes only. Please seek out the proper medical attention for health issues. Wintergreen is a sweet, minty herb used in various magical workings. It can be used to draw luck and money, and to aid in sexual matters. It is also used in spells for protection and success.
As a medicinal herb, wintergreen has been used in topical analgesic preparations for the treatment of back pain, rheumatism, fever, headaches, and sore throats. The plant and its oil have been used in traditional medicine as an anodyne, analgesic, carminative, astringent, and topical ointment.
Small oral doses of wintergreen oil stimulate digestion and gastric secretion. Topically, the oil is a counterirritant and may offer some analgesic effect because of the structural similarity to aspirin.
Do NOT use if you are taking anticoagulants or aspirin.

Thimbleberry is a member of the Rosaceae family. The leaves are antiemetic, astringent, blood tonic and stomachic. An infusion is used internally in the treatment of stomach complaints, diarrhea, and vomiting. An infusion has been taken by women when their periods are unusually long, and is of benefit when combined with raspberry leaf and catnip for less cramping, etc..
A poultice of the dried powdered leaves has been used to treat wounds and burns. The leaves have been crushed and rubbed over the skin to treat pimples and blackheads. A poultice of the leaf ashes, mixed with oil, has been used to treat swellings.

A visit to Wren's Apothecary... Myrrh is the sticky, dry resin of a certain forlorn desert tree, Commiphora myrrha. Myrrh is extracted by piercing the bark of the tree and returning later to collect the nuggets of dried sap. True to Myrrh’s reputation as a funerary herb, these pieces are sometimes called “tears.” Ancient Egyptians used Myrrh, along with linen and natron, to embalm the dead. The resin both perfumes and preserves the body of the deceased. The Ebers papyrus (a document written around 1500 BCE contains over 800 medicinal formulas, many of which are based on a mixture of honey and myrrh. The antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of both substances are now known to science. Myrrh gum was also used by the ancients to treat infection, bruises, skin conditions, and toothache. Myrrh is sacred to the Great Mother, whether she is called Mary, Isis, or Binah. (The names “Mary” and “Myrrh” both probably derive from the Hebrew word for “bitter.”) It is an herb of the ancient Goddess, especially in her aspect as She Who Mourns and who hears the cries of the mourning. As an incense and anointing oil, Myrrh can lead to rich and rewarding meditation (especially introspection). It is used to heal personal sorrow and to connect with the dead and the Underworld. Myrrh is rarely used alone. Its character is somewhat malleable depending on what it’s blended with. The fabled combo of Frankincense and Myrrh has never been improved upon. It makes an incredibly powerful and balanced incense for cleansing, protection, and more. And, because of its association with Yule, it is included in my Yule / Winter Solstice Pocket Altars.

A visit to Wren's #Apothecary... Today, I'm sharing about #Apple, because it's near and dear to my heart. And because I want to remind you that your apothecary shelves can hold not only the rare 'exotic' #herbsandspices, but also the everyday kind. My apples are growing and beginning to blush. Always exciting for me, because I have such a close affinity with Apple. From the tree and fruit to the #Ogham, Apple plays a part in my daily life. I have even collected spent leaves, for both an upcoming item in my shop and my own apothecary shelf. The #Appletree, or #Quert, is the tenth letter of the Ogham in its tree form. According to Robert Ellison's Ogham: the Secret Language of the #Druids, the Apple represents both the Otherworld and choice. In spells, Ellison elaborates, the Apple can be used for love, fertility, divination and #faerie contact. Apple shows us there is nothing that is truly mundane. All is magic. #witchapothecary #witchesofinstagram #witchofinstagram #witchcraft #applesofinstagram #greenwitch #plantwitch #plantmagic #greenmagic #kitchenwitch #everydaymagic https://www.instagram.com/p/CDhWPm0nQn9/?igshid=idncnvqeifkx

A visit to Wren's #apothecary... The humble, little #violet blossom is a cooling, watery ally during the #Summer months & can relieve fiery tempers, nourish overheated tissue, or help us press the refresh button on our lives. If you find yourself unable to sleep after a long day in the Sun, 16th century astrological physician #AnthonyAscham suggests soaking your feet in water infused with violets & binding the herb to your temples before going to bed. A contemporary magical manuscript from the #FolgerShakespeareLibrary, published in 2015 as the #BookofOberon, also lists #violets among the ingredients of a #Venusianincense. On the other hand, an old #Scottishpoem collected in the 18th century, has it that washing your face with violets steeped in goat’s milk was a popular method to increase a woman’s beauty & charm potential lovers. In the classical Mediterranean world, one of the #HomericHymns dedicated to #Aphrodite calls her violet-crowned & Roman naturalist #Pliny suggests wearing a garland of violets while banqueting will prevent drunkenness & diminish the effects of hangover. #MaudGrieve, 19th century #herbalist & educator, in the second volume of her Modern Herbal, says ancient Athenians used violet to ‘moderate anger’ & ‘comfort and strengthen the heart’, pointing to a long history of Venusian associations. American #folkmagic, and African-American conjure in particular, considers violet a flower of love. Even the leaf is heart-shaped. A common & simple spell, which highlights the modest but potent simplicity of popular magic, is to wear violet leaves in your right shoe to draw a new lover to you. However, heartsease, a type of violet popularly identified as a #pansy, can be worked with to soothe the pains of a broken heart by bathing in an infusion of it for nine days according to #CatherineYronwode’s Hoodoo Herb & Root Magic. (Respectfully borrowed from oddwitch.com) The above is for informational purposes only.
