Starry portrait of New Mexico’s favorite hiker. (I’m not a state rep. All opinions are my own. It’s true though. 😉) What you don’t see in this picture is my fingers going numb, because I had to repeatedly take off my gloves to adjust my camera throughout the night. This is around the moment when the 20° temperature had finally become too much. The pain as they started to warm and the feeling came back was excruciating to say the least. While in the car on the way home, I found out my thick gloves had an internal set of thinner gloves. 🙃 I thought they were just a fluffy liner until I felt the velcro. 🙃🙃🙃 Anywho, I like this picture a lot. Was running late on Saturday, but still managed to catch up! This was another great hike with @mypubliclands and @friendsomdp. We got to see more cool fossils! 😍 I’ll explain a few slides cause I feel that they need it. Slide 3: See the little dots in the shape of a hand? Possibly toe pads of an ancient amphibian. Slide 4: A footprint with claw marks of some much larger creature. Slide 5: A Walchia. An ancient conifer. Slide 6: A dead coyote carcass. We approached it while upwind from it and didn’t see it until we were feet from it. Some people almost stepped on it accidently! 🤢🤢🤢 It smelled PUTRID! Lose 7: A walking stick. I’m always amazed insects are still active during this time of year. Slide 10: I just think it’s a cool looking rock. At the time, I complained about having unfortunately chosen to stand along a near-death river over strolling the base of the mountains, but his shot actually came out pretty nice. I’m not mad about it. I didn’t know the river was in such bad shape at the time.
