The boys try to give Jack and Kathy a heads up about Elsa/Alan but are unable to reach them. Both Elsa and Alan show up (Elsa manhandling Andy) and won’t budge until they see Alice. Nick has given his full backing to Kathy. Elsa tries to pull Alice out of the car roughly then isn’t too much kinder in Jack’s home (‘always playing the little madam!’) clearly scaring not only Alice but the others there. Meanwhile, Viv tries to get more signatures on the petition, namely Bernice and Tricia. Gifs will be posted separated.
"Viv and the Lackadaisy team solved everything like adults, didn't any of you haters watch the GlitchX livestream?"
First off, I love how people are so sure that Viv and her inner circle aren't still continuing to talk shit about other indie projects on Discord or that Viv isn't still liking tweets from hardcore stans that harassed the Lackadaisy team.
And second, why are you acting like celebrities who don't like each other can't put aside their differences when it comes to public events?
Ray Fisher put aside his hatred for Joss Whedon to promote the godawful theatrical cut of Justice League at press junkets back in 2017, Bret Hart still showed up to give a speech at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony back in 2006 even though his relationship with the company was still sour at the time, and everyone who ever had the misfortune of working with Justin Roiland had to pretend like they liked the guy in public because they didn't want to get fired or blacklisted.
Also, I have a hard time believing that the GlitchX organizers didn't have a sit down with both parties beforehand. Because I seriously doubt the Lackadisy crew would have agreed to do the livestream if they didn't know that Viv was gonna be participating beforehand.
Finally got around to watching Being the Recardos on Amazon Prime after procrastinating for months... ugh, why do I torture myself? I knew it was going to be God-awful.
I generally hate biopics. It’s just too hard to cram an entire person’s life in 2 hours. I much prefer to read a biography or memoir which offers deeper insight and can be thorough and detailed or watch a doc. Real stories are always more interesting than dramatizations. That being said, my main issue was with the casting. I just couldn’t see Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem disappear into the roles of Lucy and Desi. They looked NOTHING like them. I will give props to Kidman to at least nailing Lucy’s voice, but otherwise, her hair and makeup was atrocious and did not embody Lucy at all (it looks better on the obviously photoshopped poster, trust me... it looks like utter sh- in the movie). I generally like Bardem but he was miscast as Desi. So he’s got an accent so what? A guy who was shorter and didn’t speak in a deep baritone would have been a better choice. I would have preferred unknowns in these parts. When you use A-list actors who are supposed to be representing Icons, it’s hard to see them as the people they’re meant to be portraying because they’re too recognizable themselves.
I also had issues with the actress playing Vivan Vance as well (too lazy to look up her name). She was about the right age as Viv maybe a couple years younger but much too thin and pretty. Viv was an attractive woman when she wasn’t playing Ethel (they always made her look frumpy and older than she was irl) but you have to keep in mind she wasn’t a pin-up girl, either and she wasn’t old but she wasn’t that young either. She was 42 albeit classy but still... the hair was all wrong and I just couldn't see her as Vivian. In fact, after comparing their pictures side by side I think Vivian was much more glamorous but she wasn’t supposed to look that glamorous as Ethel... they let Ethel be glammed up in the later episodes and this was an issue that cropped up in the movie but still. The actress didn’t even try to do her voice and sounded nothing like Vivian so she just didn’t do it for me. The only actor that completely fit his part was JK Simmons as William Frawley. Maybe he was thinner than Frawley but he got the voice and mannerisms down pat that if I closed my eyes I could totally see Frawley speaking. Now if only the rest of the cast was as good as he was, the movie would have been at least partly bearable.
I gather this movie was intended to be a low budget TV movie because that’s exactly what it felt like. No effort put into it all because it went direct to streaming.
Also there were so many historical inaccuracies, too many to list off but purist Lucy fans would spot the inconsistencies from a mile away (the most glaring issue was how Lucy and Desi met on the set of Too Many Girls in 1940).
Honestly... the costume department couldn’t have done a worse job...
Was this supposed to be Lucy’s natural brunette hair? Cause no.... no it’s not.
Sorry but Kidman just couldn’t capture her beauty at all...
The Communist speech was also really cheesy... the audience reactions could not be more forced and you can tell when they were told to gasp and look shocked. If Desi’s speech was staged for the cameras I could forgive the forced reactions but it was not staged and the audience irl was not expecting Desi’s speech. If you look up the actual address Desi gave to the studio audience it was much less dramatic and easier to suspend one’s disbelief.
The film offered nothing new either... in fact the crappy 1991 TV movie Before the Laughter did a more entertaining job of capturing Lucy and Desi’s rocky marriage than this movie did. I didn’t care for Maurice Benard as Desi but Frances Fisher KILLED it as Lucy. It was not a great movie by any means but I’d rather watch that one any day over this hot mess.
The only thing I can say that was positive was that it was a wise choice to zero in on a single week of filming the I Love Lucy show as opposed to showing their entire lives and careers. we see parts of that but there was too much to show in 2 hours so focusing on a single moment in their lives and what led up to that was for the best so that it didn’t feel too rushed. Biopics work best when you’re focusing on just one thing. But that being said the movie still fell flat on its character development and there was no emotional connection to Lucy and Desi at all. In 2 hours I felt like I still didn’t really know who these people were. It was a very surface level movie with no real deep commentary or themes or anything. I also hated the fake interviews with the writers as the movie’s opening it was very weak and cliche. They were trying to push this movie as a docu drama but it wasn’t. It was just another bad dramatization of two Hollywood Legends with no new insight.
But then I didn’t really expect it to be a good movie so can’t say it met my expectations or really disappointed me because I had none going in.
I’m definitely going to watch the far more superior documentary Lucy and Desi directed by Amy Poehler. Docs are always 10000x better than crappy biopics.
Now that I'm home I have time to write out the whole explanation necessary to answer this-- Apologies for the winding and directionless hemming and hawing happening here lol
I'm reluctant to talk about this because I don't want to be rude, mean, or overly negative, especially considering what's been going on with Joe overall. But I did not read Joe's book, and I do not have an interest in reading it. To be blunt, all of the writing I saw going around from it did not seem like something I would like.
It is on par with writing from other celebrities I otherwise respect, but nevertheless did not particularly enjoy, like Carrie Fisher's memoir and the second half of Viv Albertine's.
I do want to add the caveat that a lot of people who are perhaps not the best writers have put out stories that are very valuable as historical resources, and that they can have important stories to share. I believe the definition of a "good" writer or a "good" book is very broad and subjective.
However, it is clear to me that Joe's book is not about Fall Out Boy, and is about his personal life and mental health, and that is not of particular interest to me. Perhaps someone who is struggling with depression, likes reading memoirs, lost a family member to cancer, or is a father would find the book emotionally resonant. But that is not to my personal tastes.
I also know Joe is just as important as a member of Fall Out Boy as Pete, and that his life and story are important too. He is a phenomenal guitarist and a very important part of the band that is just as valuable as every other member.
However, I am a bit out of the norm of Fall Out Boy fans because I post about Fall Out Boy on a daily basis because of Pete's book, not because of their music. I love their music too, but first and foremost I love Pete as a writer. As that type of fan, I am more interested in Fall Out Boy adjacent people who are also primarily writers that are/were close with him, like Ryan, Chris etc., rather than the other members of Fall Out Boy.
I understand this is a bit unusual and strange, and is perhaps even freak behavior. I know it probably offends some people and it is not the way most people are into Fall Out Boy. But it is the case for me personally, and I miss being in English class so I just kind of playact at it with emo rock writers.
It is also very apparent that Joe is a deeply private person when it comes to him and the band and his feelings there, especially any negative feelings it may have. It was pretty clear that anything he said about the band was going to be very sanitized and things I have already heard a thousand times.
Finally, the first thing that leaked from the memoir was the bit about how it was only going to exude glowing praise for his bandmates. Joe has every right to that privacy and to keep that kind of thing to himself. But, given certain facets of Fall Out Boy lore I am highly invested in, I did not trust it to be honest, and thus I did not have interest in it.
In short, while the amount of time and attention I want to devote to Fall Out Boy is large, it is still finite, and for many reasons, I'm going to put it places that are not Joe's book.
amy telling me, "i was so excited when i saw u text the " ~ " symbol (acts out the symbol with her body, like a funny eel) ... bc i text that too!" we both agreed that it's like sending out and receiving energy... like an energy wave ~
making a ratatouille again. this may sound weird, but it's bringing me back to my really hearty vegan cooking days - especially when i was spending all my days from light til' dark cosied up in fisher library studying my butt off. i'd go to woolworths in hurstville in the evening and buy groceries and cook until late so i could pack these big containers of vegetable-filled soups, stir fries, curries, or savoury baked goods for future me next day at the library. i looked after myself so well <3 sometimes i forget that that's enough. everyday i'm beating myself up for not saving the world ah... for not doing everything i can to fix all the things i learnt about at uni... especially in gender studies... it sounds silly and obvs impossible and a bit white saviour-ish... but my brain really does get that hopeful and therefore really does get that disappointed. feeling like i'm needing to be there to catch myself more often. thinking about what it feels like and looks like to befriend myself again, to be a good friend to myself, not a bully <3 maybe more writing...
seeing pem at the door yesterday. she always waits at the door. this is something i noticed more bc pat said it's rude not to. she waits so diligently, she's so patient and sturdy. like the turtle she is. wah, i've missed emma. i've missed her voice too! idk what it is but it soothes me, like a song-filled sigh. i also really enjoyed watching the way she receives offerings of food. i feel like her mum did a really good job of this, thinking of and treating food as medicinal, vital, and abundant. the way emma talks about her mum's cooking and how it restores her energy makes me sure of this. but yeah, i just remember her trying the freeze-dried durian, and being like, "yum! this is good!" and accepting my invitation for more so readily, ah it makes me happy. and when cass offered the nachos, aw! the way she perked up! and when i offered pandan tea. wah. this also makes me think of when gonzalo and raul came to mow the lawn yesterday too. when i went to give them the bottle of cold water and two glasses, i peered into the bowl i left on the brick wall at the front of our house; a cute bundle of empty wrappers, they ate it all up ~ and when i asked if they wanted more, raul so happily accepted, and said, "the little mochi's!" gesturing the size of the mochi he'd eaten with his thumb and index finger, a little apart. i felt like the freaking lord of snacks handing out the contents of all these mega-sized cosco packets lol. legit goals. i actually felt uncannily like pem's mum in those moments yesterday, redistributing the snacks pat bought. hanging out in her mum's kitchen the first time, i was just like, wow, this is legit my goals in life. the cool, clean feeling tiles, the industrial style kitchen - burners galore, stainless steel surfaces (drool), the mountain of snacks... (dried jackfruit, squid, u frkn name it lmao). the two little metal chairs and little circular glass topped table. each surface was sturdy, cool, and clean feeling. like the kinda feeling where like... you feel massaged by everything? and everything was just like... simple. things u could be easily contented by. i'm remembering chatting with viv last last weekend as we walked in the patchy sun over to camp after descending mt kosciuszko. she was telling me about a subject she studied at usyd - the philosophy of happiness. we talked abt how the word "happy" didn't necessarily accurately describe the feeling we were after... or... what felt most, pleasurable or meaningful i guess? i told her, "i feel more represented nowadays by the words 'satiated' or 'content', happy doesn't feel real to me." but yeah idk at the same time, i think this is a very asian thing... like my mum always talks in these euphemisms abt fermentation, like letting feelings and thoughts ferment, age, and evolve i guess. but also lay dormant. maybe it's bc "happy" doesn't feel like it lasts forever, like it's a very strong, sweet flavour. but "satiated", "content", that lasts a long time. to me, the word "happy" sounds like a moment of flight, like, upwards. like "ha" (flap) - "ppy" (flap). or like... the "ha" part is opening the wings and "ppy" is pushing the air down. but then "happiness" is like, up, up, down. "ness" is very like, sinking down, sliding down, letting out something, steam or air, but landing or fading. ........ (ok i'm gonna leave it there) enough thoughts on here for tonight ... over n out
Mystery at Farfield Castle by Clare Chase (An Eve Mallow Mystery Book 10)
Beautiful Farfield Castle is opening its grounds for a party, and everyone in Saxford’s invited. But as the champagne flows, the owner takes a fatal fall. Fortunately, amateur sleuth Eve Mallow is on the case!
When novelist Julian Fisher buys Farfield Castle to turn the charming old building into a writers’ retreat, he wants the neighbours onside. But he has his work cut out: Saxford St Peter locals tried to buy the castle for the village, and are furious that only the very rich will be able to enjoy it.
At the lavish launch party, Fisher treats the villagers like royalty, but Eve Mallow is distracted by the tension in the air. She watches as Fisher’s wife Kitty argues with several guests, almost in tears, before she disappears altogether…
Later that evening, when Kitty is found dead in the castle’s icehouse, it’s quickly proved to be no accident. With dozy Detective Palmer on the wrong track, Eve can’t resist getting involved. Convinced the answers lie inside Farfield Castle, Eve questions an overly inquisitive journalist, Kitty’s less-than-loyal husband, and his prickly PA.
But when it emerges that a family heirloom and Julian’s computer both went missing on the night of the party, Eve is sure that solving the theft will solve the murder. Who is behind this deadly tale… and can Eve find the killer before she gets written off?

My Review:
I’m sure I read all the novels in this series, and this means I love it and it’s the tenth time I read and review an Eve Mallow mystery.
Eve, Gus, Robin and Viv are sort of friends you meet from time to time, catch up with them, have fun and share the joy for the positive changes in their life.
Clare Chase created relatable characters and made them change and evolve, except Gus but he’s a big part of my enjoyment.
This is a bit darker than the other novels: there’s secrets, there’s a divided family, betrayals and a village who is not happy about the new owner of Fairfield Castle.
A solid mystery with a lot of surprises, twists, and an adrenalinic last part that kept me reading till late in the night.
I had fun, I wish I could visit a place like Fairfield Castle and felt for the victims.
Another winner in this series that could be read as a stand-alone but can be fully appreciated it you read the previous novels.
Can’t wait to read the next stories.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to Bookouture for this arc, all opinions are mine
The Author:
Clare Chase writes classic mysteries. Her aim is to take readers away from it all via some armchair sleuthing in atmospheric locations.
Her debut novel was shortlisted for Novelicious’s Undiscovered Award, as well as an EPIC award post-publication, and was chosen as a Debut of the Month by LoveReading. Murder on the Marshes (Tara Thorpe 1) was shortlisted for an International Thriller Writers award.
Like her heroines, Clare is fascinated by people and what makes them tick. Before becoming a full-time writer, she worked in settings as diverse as Littlehey Prison and the University of Cambridge, in her home city. She’s lived everywhere from the house of a lord to a slug-infested flat and finds the mid-terrace she currently occupies a good happy medium.
As well as writing, Clare loves family time, art and architecture, cooking, and of course, reading other people’s books.

The farm’s had it, son. That mast was our last chance to make a go of it. It’s all over.
And so the drama surrounding the mobile phone mast comes to a close (and for Andy/Katie/Robert drama to start) as Jack receives notice that the company has pulled out. Andy wanted the farm to work while for Robert, ‘life goes on 🤷♀️’.’ With the likes of Edna, there’s no point in reaching out to other companies. The last recourse now for Jack is selling up the farm which Robert sees as ‘doing the right thing.’ Andy blasts Viv (who’s ready to celebrate with Edna) for her interfering ways. Diane tries to be there for Andy and Jack. Jack is determined to make the most of it for his family’s last Christmas on the farm. Gifs will be posted separately.
This poor tribe has taken SUCH a beating over the last year with Donna and then the sonic cannon and the ones Ryn lost in transformation and then Sarge and now Tia’s attacks, just... I wonder what her tribe actually looked like at its peak, we keep getting introduced to new ones and now it seems like maybe there actually ARE like five total left?
