@asimplemulti sent: Riddle had taken a bit of time to think over things, but simple was best when it came to his motley crew, wasn't it?
For Naoko, he had gone sensible and gifted her an entirely new set off clothing; Winter and summer-related. Along with a beautiful trunk to store such garments in.
For Blake, his heart, his wolf, his king...that had been a struggle. He knew the other wasn't big on items. He rarely had a need for such trivial things. So, for him, an experience was the only proper gift. A chance for the two of them to go ax throwing seemed fun!
For Maddox, also went practical. The last four months worth of notes in a bullet point style, the important things highlighted.
For Vivian, a set of new hoodies to hide in whenever he got too overworked, and teas that would soothe the throat.
For Whitney? A new heated blanket to snuggle in, and a basket of treats that would be easy on the stomach.
Tumblr media
Naoko had...never really gotten gifts before...then again she’d never celebrated what she thought was some stupid holiday in the first place either so that likely had a part in it. Thus it took a while for her brain to process what she was looking at exactly but once she had a simple, “Huh.......” leaves her before just flopping onto her bed with a small yawn. She wasn’t ungrateful for the gift or anything, far from she just....didn’t know how to react to it.
“Ax throwing?” The wolf muses, tail lightly swaying behind him as ears fold in thought. “People actually do that just....for the hell of it?” He asks, though the amusement in his tone was clear. The wolf then wraps an arm around his deer and pulls him close to place a soft kiss upon his cheek. “Sure, why not?”
Leave it to his Dormleader to be so prepared and organized the hatter noted as he looked over the notes. Eventually he tucked them back into the folder and gently placed them into a drawer in his desk where other important papers were stored for likely future reference.
Pale silver-blue eyes look over the items, pupils slitting in cautious curiosity as he looked them over. What....were these and why were they here? Slowly he reached over and with some hesitance, poked at one of the boxes of tea with his claw-like nail. The moment it made contact he shuffled back quickly in case it retaliated only to be surprised when...it didn’t. Turns out they were exactly why they looked like...though why they were here was still in question. A low rumbling growl from the jabberwocky as he poked a bit more at the hoodies and boxes of tea for a bit as he tried to work out just why they’d been left here.
Pastel red eyes widen and tail twitches upon seeing the gifts. It had been a long time since the rabbit had gotten any gifts....and it took no time for him to be bundled up in the warm blanket, sketchbook in his lap as he grabbed a few of the snacks to try before starting to doodle for a while.
Christmas Gifts: No Longer Accepting!

Thanks for the invite, @talesofsorrowandofruin
Words: game, horrible, care and understand. I’ll be doing this from Transcendants: The Star’s Promise
Cw/Tw: Inappropriate Language, Violence
Game: “And lose this game of truth or dare? Mama ain’t raised no bitch,” Fenrir huffed. “Your mom didn’t raise you at all,” Cressida said, furrowing her eyebrows. “Exactly!” The Thairus Transcendant exclaimed before he slid down the snow-hill, cackling.
Horrible: “Maybe we should try and bury the body?” Vivian asked nervously. “That’s horrible,” Stacy gasped, her eyes wide. “You know what else is horrible? Not burying the body!” Ivana exclaimed, throwing her hands up.
Care: There was a loud crack, accompanied by the sound of flesh squelching and Demetrius whipped his head around to see Maddox digging his fangs into an unconscious man. “Maddy!” Demetrius lightly scolded. Maddox hissed at him. The other Dolrion whirled around and quickly avoided an oncoming fist before he slammed his knee into the other man’s gut. The guy coughed, dropping to his knees. “If your rebel friend will care enough, he’ll send the King his complaints,” Demetrius huffed.
Understand: “There’s a lot of enemies in our kind, Paigey,” Miguel said, clasping his hands together as he leaned forward slightly, “that’s something you’ll have to understand. You gotta fight those enemies.”

WEREWOLVES
Tumblr media
The following info is copied/pasted from BESTIARY. All creatures, species, etc. are based on various folklore, mythology, and my personal canon with various media influences. Information is not complete and is a constant work-in-progress. Further updates can be found at the above link.
Tumblr media
Pertains to the following characters:
Vivian Cole
Glen Cole
Grace Cole
Dalton Cole
Anne Buckler
Adam Lowell
Lang Maddox
Chrissy Addison
There are many different species or types of werewolves.
In the case of the werewolves of the Newfound, the Wulverwood, the Smokestone, & the Graydawn Packs, werewolves are born as they are. They are not bitten and cannot infect others through biting or scratching. They do acknowledge that there are other species/types of werewolves in which an infection, or ‘a curse’, can be inflicted on a human, but see them as a different breed of creature, similar enough but different.
Werewolves cannot usually bear children with a human or any other species that is not related to werewolf. A supernaturally inclined being, such as a witch or something similar, may have improved chances of conception. A child born of a werewolf and another species will most always display some werewolf traits, but depending on the other parent, may or may not be able to shift to wolf form.
Female werewolves who become pregnant usually are able to sense it a few weeks after conception and try to avoid shifting to ensure a safe and healthy pregnancy. Miscarriages are common. Werewolves often have multiple births of twins or even triplets. The gestation period for a werewolf is less than that of a human, lasting usually five to six months. On that same note, other werewolves are able to sense early pregnancy due to a change in scent from hormones.
Shifting is a painful process that involves skin, hair/fur, and muscles growing and reforming. It takes time for it to happen, so werewolves are generally vulnerable until the shift is complete, and it is one of the reasons why they try to isolate themselves whenever they do change from human form to wolf. Shifting back is also painful. An older werewolf who has been shifting for much longer may not take nearly as much time as a younger, inexperienced wolf. For the younger ones, it can take anywhere from ten minutes to half an hour, with the older ones being able to shift within less than five minutes. It’s a horrifying process for non-werewolves to view, so even if they trust a human, many of them are wary about having them see the process because of how traumatizing it may be.
Shifting is not only tied in with the moon phases. They feel the need to shift from the moon’s pull, but they don’t necessarily have to give in. If they don’t, however, they are in pain—aching bones, cramps, headaches—which leads to foul moods, so it is better for them to change at least once a month to keep their wolf selves happy. The rest of the time, they can shift when they please though some only limit themselves to their moon time.
Some strong emotions can trigger a shift—anger, sorrow, intense emotion of any kind can bring it on. The werewolves in the pack are taught from a young age how to keep their emotions in check to prevent such accidental and potentially dangerous shifts.
The onset of shifting can happen as young as infancy, because younger wolf pups are unable to control their emotions as well as the older ones. When they begin to learn, they are usually able to hold off a full shift until they are in their teens, when the onset of puberty kick-starts their need to do so.
Because shifting requires a lot of energy, werewolves tend to eat a lot. They have a higher metabolism because of how quickly a shift can burn off calories. They try to eat well before a shift, and after, to minimize their hunger while in wolf form.
Werewolves turn into four-legged wolves, not the bipedal wolf-beast depicted in some movies and television series. They are much larger than normal wolves, and weigh roughly the same as they do in their human countenance.
While in wolf form, they maintain their human understanding in most cases. Thoughts appear more with emotions and instinct rather than logic, and the werewolves strive to learn how to keep their more animalistic nature in check to avoid losing control—because that is a thing that can and does happen.
Werewolves are not immortal, but due to their quick healing, they age more slowly than normal humans. A typical werewolf lifespan can last 150 years.
Females do experience a heat cycle—season or estrous—about two or three times a year. They still have a menstrual cycle, much like human females, and are able to get pregnant when they ovulate once a month. The heat cycles are different in that the need to mate is very heightened and they are ovulating at an increased rate. Because of this, the chances of conceiving twins or triplets–a litter–is higher. They experience a higher level of desire. This creates pheromones that other werewolves can smell, signaling that the female is ready to mate. The onset of this in females is right around the time of maturity—late teens or early twenties.
Abilities & Powers Include:
Ability to shift into the form of a wolf at will regardless of moon phase (isn’t bound to only change when it’s full)
super reflexes, agility, speed, strength, and resilience
accelerated healing and longevity
Weaknesses Include:
Silver. Touching it causes a severe, immediate allergic reaction; the skin feels as if its been burned and even appears so. Silver that touches open wounds or enters the bloodstream causes sickness or can prove fatal if severe enough.
Wolfsbane. The same as with silver but is far more fatal, especially if ingested.
Though not necessarily a weakness, chocolate can make werewolves sick so they tend to avoid it.

Keynote Address at the IBMA Trade Show
Thursday, October 22, 1998
By Murphy Henry
"Well, I kind of feel like that’s what I’m going to be doing today because I’m going to be talking about a subject that is near and dear to my heart, and it’s a subject that I think is really important for the bluegrass community, for IBMA, and for all of us if we want to grow and prosper as an industry, and as we move into the 21st century. So my topic today is Women in Bluegrass. I guess you’re not surprised. [Light applause.]"
"The future of bluegrass music simply must include women on stage playing their instruments and singing! "
And history shows us that Bill Monroe himself was both inclusive and supportive of women who played bluegrass, and I’d like to give you a few examples of that.
In this very boxed set that I’ve been talking about, the Columbia reissues, the first eight cuts that Bill Monroe made for Columbia Records featured a woman playing the accordion. Sally Ann Forrester. [Applause.] Sally Ann sang tenor on two numbers, and she took an accordion break on Bluegrass Special. She was with Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys for at least three years, which is quite a bit longer than many of the Blue Grass Boys stayed with Monroe. [Laughter.] She was a professional musician in her own right, and she added to Bill Monroe’s show. I always find it interesting and curious that when we mention Sally Ann Forrester and the accordion, everybody chuckles a little bit. And I’m not sure if they’re chuckling because we don’t consider the accordion to be a bluegrass instrument anymore, or because, in the past, we didn’t consider women to be bluegrass players.
Many of you are familiar with Bessie Lee Mauldin, who played the bass and recorded with Bill Monroe for a number of years. [Light applause.] But you’re probably not familiar with a woman named Juanita Sheehan. She and her husband Shorty were part of the house band at the Brown County Jamboree up in Bean Blossom, Indiana. And sometimes when Bill Monroe would come through, he wouldn’t have a full band with him to play a show. So Juanita would back him up on the guitar. And Neil Rosenberg says that Juanita was a wonderful guitar player. Bill Monroe didn’t have a problem playing in a band that had a woman on the guitar.
Many of you also know that when Bill Monroe went out on the road sometimes he wouldn’t carry a full band with him. He went to Washington State in the ’60s without enough musicians to fill out his contract, so he used Vivian Williams on the fiddle for two shows. [Applause.] The thing that Bill Monroe said about Vivian Williams was this. He said, "I have never heard a lady fiddler that could beat Vivian, and a lot of men fiddlers can’t beat her."
Bill Monroe was the one that encouraged Rose Maddox to record her landmark bluegrass album--the first bluegrass album ever recorded by a woman. Bill Monroe played mandolin on the album himself, he sang on the album, and Rose Maddox recorded a number of Bill Monroe’s songs. If you’ve ever had any question in your mind, any doubts about whether women can sing bluegrass, get this album and listen to Rose Maddox. Now, as a little aside about Rose Maddox’s personality, when she came in from California to do this album, she brought her steel player with her. And when she got in the studio, the folks said, "You can’t use a steel on bluegrass music." Rose Maddox had two words for these people. [Tentative laughter.] No, not those! [Loud burst of laughter.] Never thought of that. [More laughter.] Her words were, "Watch me!" [More laughter.] It’s a great album.
"Louise Scruggs, one of the first women to be a booking agent and a manager and one of the best. [Applause.] She delighted in putting Flatt and Scruggs into places that had never even considered having bluegrass music before. And if you like the Carnegie Hall album, you have Louise Scruggs to thank for that, because that was her idea."

Women in Bluegrass
In 1998 Murphy Henry was invited to give the keynote address at the International Bluegrass Music Association's annual World of Bluegrass convention. She talked about women's role in bluegrass from the beginning (Sally Ann Forrester) through the present and beyond. It was a darn good speech. You can read the full text here.
Women in Bluegrass was an 8 to 10 page newsletter, created and edited by Murphy Henry, that focused exclusively on women in bluegrass. It was published pretty much 4 times a year from 1994 through 2003. Publication was suspended when Murphy started writing her book on women in bluegrass, which she is still working on. Each issue featured a lengthy interview, profile, or essay as well as an introduction from the editor, several shorter articles, and reader letters." 1-33

I know they are implying that Hannah and Sam likely had a incestuous relationship but that still does not make up for the fact that Sam left a pregnant Vivian for Annalise or cheated on Annalise with his student. Then later had Frank murder the the student. It sucks he had a messed up childhood but he is still a piece of shit.

Pick your poison challenge
late night strolls with ivan under the bright street lamps and on the lonely sidewalk. chatting quietly about anything and everything under the stars, until the mind is content with all that it’s shared, as warm street snacks fuel the heart and soul.
quiet cafe meetups with vivian where the smell of coffee and sweets waft through the air and the only noise to fill the otherwise silent void is the cafe ambience. hours breeze by easy as the sun begins to set across the horizon. it’s not time to leave yet, though. there are too many unspoken thoughts to convey, now.
escaping the mundane and experiencing the thrill of car meets with jace. with the distinct roaring of heavily modded engines and the distant ear-piercing screeching of brakes being slammed far too roughly. it’s wild. it’s chaotic. and it’s fleeting. just the way it’s always meant to be, as a warm palm and confident fingers gently tug in the direction of the makeshift finish line. the racers are about to start.
watching maddox out on the rink, with his team jacket draped warmly across shoulders and formerly goosebump ridden skin. the lights are almost too bright and it doesn’t matter how warm the weather is beyond the walls of this indoor recreational area; the air within is always chilly and crisp. the sound of blades skidding across the ice bring the attention back to the center of the stadium. bright eyes that reflect the luminance of the LEDs stare back, a grin present in those dark swirling orbs.
stargazing with nova in the middle of nowhere, laying in the cold, slightly damp grass until it’s started prickling against skin. every once in a while, her bright voice breaks the silence in giddy, energetic bouts at a particularly twinkling cluster. a sharp nudge and a yell of wonder, when a meteor happens to fly across the dark night sky. it’s like a portal to another universe, just like stargazing itself is a portal into hers.

Generally speaking, the mornings were some of the most beautiful in the city. People bustled around, either too tired to function or so caffeinated that they had a pep to their step. The bookshop was no exception, alive with faint conversation and people of all sorts coming through the doors to see what was on the shelves. Vivian was not out of place, or at least she didn’t think so. She’d done her best to seem put together, when in the past it hadn’t been very difficult at all to blend into crowds. Harold had plucked her from her youth, a woman with thick dark hair and soft features, and created something quite opposite of her. Years of happiness had come to an end once her son was born, the magnate taking to greener pastures and younger women. Still, she had little Max to carve a smile onto her face. Harold hadn’t let her be soft, or let her live a happily married life, and in the end he had taken even her sons importance from her. Jackson was born under her nose as if she would never find out, and it ripped away the thought that she was at least the only one worthy of a child to Harold. Harry could rot in his grave for all she cared, he hadn’t done her any good.
Viv dressed down for the outing, and threw back plenty of mouthwash to clear the smell of liquor on her breath. Tracking Maddox down hadn’t been difficult, she called the office and they gave her everything. His secretary even went as far as to say he wasn’t showing up to work as regularly as before, naming a woman the key to Max’s absence. As it turned out, the woman owned a shop not too far away from his office. A bookshop, obviously older than the dust that had gathered in Harold’s closet. As she stepped around other customers Vivian peered around, trying to find any trace of the shops owner. Growing frustrated, but keeping it hidden, she walked toward the register and leaned against the counter. “Can I get a little help? I’m looking for something in particular.” Her questioning was aimed at the redhead turned away from her, and although her tone was kind she looked the woman over a little too harshly while she didn’t have her attention. Was she the culprit to her son’s business’ demise? No, she couldn’t be, Max was much more accustomed to women with a bit more gumption. All the women she’d witnessed her son with on occasion were much more… well, more.
