Do you think the MT is having a shortage of male principals? I love Kimin Kim and Vladimir Shklyarov but other than that i'm not obsessed with anyone else :(
Also, would you happen to know why Kimin Kim mostly seems to dance with Tereshkina these days? I loved him with Khoreva!
Definitely, the Mariinsky male principals are at a vulnerable point right now, especially after losing Parish and Caixeta. I love Kim, Shklyarov, and Ivanchenko, but Ivanchenko is practically retired and Shklyarov only has a few more years in him. I'm also not a huge fan of Askerov or Yermakov. I've found Askerov to be kinda awkward in a lot of roles and I've just never gotten into Yermakov.
I think Stepin should totally be a principal and I'd like for him to be promoted to fill things out a bit. However, he's a 2005 grad, so he's not exactly on the younger side either.
I would say that it's likely that eventually Belyakov and Konovalov will be promoted to Principal as well as Korneyev a little later.
They also seem to really be pushing the recent joiner Even Capitaine. I haven't seen a lot of Capitaine yet though, so I can't really speak to him.
As for the question about Kimin Kim's partners recently, I'm not really sure about that. I also really liked him with Khoreva, but perhaps something personal happened between them 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️. I don't know.

Do you happen to know why a fair amount of principals and soloists at the Mariinsky rarely ever dances? From the 6 primas, only 3 are really active ones. Also, do you know why Shklyarov and Shapran rarely ever dances? Not as partners, just in general. I understand some of the principals/soloists are closer to retirement, but that's not their case.
The only one who I really consider 'inactive' is Vishneva. She's just not here, no longer dances classical repertoire, and rarely dances contemporary work fit for the concert stage. She's obviously on the site to keep pretenses but is clearly more involved in her foundation, studio, and choreographic platform.
Novikova has had her 4th child but is certainly still dancing. I believe she returned to the stage in March and recovered quite quickly. In May alone she danced The Legend of Love, MT's La Fille du Pharaon, Giselle, and in a gala. She also did both DQ and RJ in June and danced at a gala at Alexandrinsky Theater last week.
Kondaurova had major Achilles surgery but has been doing a similar amount of work. She's dancing about 4-5 performances per month including RJ, Lilac Fairy in SB, La Fille du Pharaon etc. This is not at all a small amount especially when they're all often different ballets.
Shklyarov dances quite a bit, he's still the go to partner for numerous MT girls and most notably he just had a huge choreographic evening honoring his 20th anniversary dancing at MT.
Shapran has had long stretches of time where she was absent to a combination of injuries and illnesses on top of maturity leaves. I wouldn't be surprised if the combination of these factors makes management more hesitant to cast her.
It's also not uncommon for older dancers like all listed here to end up with a lighter schedule in the summer, this seems to be a trend at both BT and MT. Dancers like their holidays.

Tereshkina, however, combines her bold Kitri from Don Quixote with her Odile to appear the grandest possible imperial ballerina. She is technically so confident that she can play with the music – Minkus at his merriest – choosing when to hold her balances, when to perform a slow double pirouette or whip off multiple fouettés.

Svetlana Zakharova and Vladimir Shklyarov in Romeo and Juliet.
Is this Zakharova's best role? No, not at all. However, seeing her in a new role is so satisfying. And Shklyarov will forever be one of my favorite Romeos, he embodies the character and the choreography suits him so well. I adore this video.

I was so sad to see the news of Igor Petrov’s passing - he seemed a wonderful teacher and mentor. Do you know what happened, I hadn’t even realised he had been ill?
Apologies that this ask got buried. The news of his passing is very tragic indeed, lots of his colleagues and students expressed warm sentiments online and shared fond memories. I thought Xander Parish had an especially well-written post. I don't believe the cause of death has been made public, so I won't be speculating on it.
However, I will share two videos of him teaching in hopes that it will serve as a small tribute to an extremely dedicated and loyal man who gave his all to art and teaching.
