If I try to post my jury videos in a collective post, my phone force closes, so I’ll be uploading these over the course of the next week or two. Here is the third of four videos I recorded for my voice juries / finals. This is “Fleurs” by Francis Poulenc, a deceptive little art song that was one of my biggest challenges this semester (aside from the pandemic as a whole lol). Breath alignment & maintenance are things I still struggle with & this song doesn’t have a lot of spots where a deep breath is possible, but I think it was a lesson learned well. Again, I can only hope to improve ❤️

Plot Twist

First post in 4 years?

My voice and I have changed. A quick rundown of some things I’ve had the opportunity to sing:

-My first real choir solos ever

-Frasquita in opera scenes

-Queen of the F’ing Night, full role

-Abigail Williams from Robert Ward’s The Crucible in scenes

...and hopefully more once this hellish COVID-19 situation dies down.

Oh, and remember how I was an Ed major? I switched to performance two years in. Next years will be my last year of undergrad. I’ll be 29 years old.

Maybe I’ll share some venty musings later. But there’s also a lot to celebrate, and maybe reflecting on that after 4 years will be just the thing I need while I feel so far from music.
