More Kill Bill Rambles: Retribution for Nikkia Bell
This is the most done topic for Kill Bill, but I want to write a story about Nikkia Bell meeting Elle Driver and Sophie Fatale in her quest for vengeance against the woman who killed her mother.
She was 4 when it happened, so if she was 23, let's say - that's 19 years later.
Elle Driver's end was left ambiguous. Beatrix left her to suffer after plucking out her eye. The Black Mamba could have bitten her, not to mention she was left stranded in the middle of nowhere. What we can be sure of, however, is that the bitterness Elle feels for Beatrix is unparalleled.
Sophie was also left alive, without an arm. She displays evident loyalty to Bill in the ending scene, and I'm sure she'd be in on anything involving getting back at Beatrix.
Since Nikkia was so young, there are so many angles a person can take when creating this story. The only thing that stands out in her scenes is that she is aware that something is wrong and keeps looking at Beatrix like wtf?
With that in mind, I'm going to headcanon an older Nikki as being very perceptive and cunning. Her parents were a doctor and an assassin turned homemaker; Vernita Green was the only one of the Deadly Vipers who truly seemed to want to live out her days in the quiet suburb. Budd was the closest to that but with more depression.
I'm going to headcanon that Nikkia had access to plenty of wealth and resources growing up, I'm sure Vernita had a significant nest egg stored away, and her dad was still alive. Lucky for him, Beatrix was only concerned about the people directly responsible.
In terms of vengeance, I'm not sure that ANYONE would be able to stand up to Beatrix truly. I know that she would face Nikkia with respect and honesty, acknowledging the pain she caused by killing Vernita. She would fight with her full strength out of respect, so Nikkia needs enough training to meet that. Beatrix is tough and has decades of experience killing people under her belt; the only real obvious advantage Nikki would have is youth. She'd have to train for quite some time before being able to fight Beatrix seriously.
Beatrix is a bad bitch, but there's no reason not to have another unrepentant badass. I know Beatrix would face her death at Nikki's hands with dignity.
There are 4 scenarios I've considered, just spitballing and brainstorming here.
One
Nikkia gets a piece of mail on her 18th birthday. All it has is a piece of paper with a name on it. Beatrix Kiddo. A name. She knows without any context that this is the name of the woman who killed her mother. This piece of paper starts her on her journey to find Beatrix. I think the most likely starting point would be Sophie Fatale; she'd be easier to find. Same as how quickly Beatrix found Oren. From there, Sophie might direct her to Elle, who is interested in any effort of vengeance against Beatrix.
That said, Nikkia would be wary of Elle but wouldn't pass up an opportunity. She might even call Elle out directly, saying if she couldn't kill Beatrix, then what does she have to learn from her?
It might be best for Nikkia to have another teacher somehow. Maybe Nikkia knows Beatrix specializes in swordplay, so she approaches ranged weaponry or some other type of combat that would pair well.
Two
Elle Driver manages to survive and seeks revenge. She knows Vernita had a child and that Beatrix has a soft spot for kids. I'm sure she'd try to search for Nikkia eventually, interested in stoking the fires of revenge years after the fact. With Bill dead, retribution is all Elle would strive for. Or, perhaps she finds Sophie and finds out through her that Nikkia is alive, and they begin to plan together.
Sophie expressed pure reverence for Bill in the final scenes of the first movie; she'd want revenge for his death and for losing her arm as well. I mean, these are people who are very casual about murder, so it's not out of the question for them to plan on how to use a child to enact their vengeance, even if they wait until she's older. They'd see her as a vessel for their goals rather than truly sympathizing with her loss.
Would an older Nikki want any sympathy, though?
Three
Nikkia's father gets her into therapy immediately, and she goes through years of treatment to try to tackle the trauma of witnessing her mom get killed. I'm reminded of the beginning of Oren's back story; "O-Ren Ishii made her first acquaintance with death at the age of 9." Well, Nikkia's got you beat in this shit storm of a contest. She'd never forget the last words the yellow-haired woman said to her before she left; that if she still felt raw about it, she'd be waiting. Struggling with the thought of taking life, Elle steps into the picture and encourages Nikki to embrace her rage and desire for vengeance. Nikkia is, again, wary of Elle but can't deny her desire to see the woman answer for what she did.
Four
Nikkia finds herself in the assassin underground and searches for information about her mom and Beatrix. She ends up being a prodigy - one to rival the Deadly Vipers with enough practice. She is intelligent and calculating and also pragmatic. She'd hear the legends of how one of the Vipers ate the rest in retribution, then killed the leader. She'd spend years honing her skills, waiting for the day she could enact her revenge. Through the underground connections, she meets Sophie and Elle and then learns about Beatrix and her specific fighting styles. Once she feels confident, she makes the plan for confrontation, leading up to the final fight.
My ideas more or less run out here; a lot of my stuff starts to kind of weave together at this point. The basics are that Nikki needs to train very intensely to stand any chance to fight Beatrix. Sophie and Elle aid in that quest, but Nikki doesn't include them beyond what she can get from them relevant to her vengeance.
This is about Beatrix Kiddo and Nikkia Bell.

So as I told @becuzmdsaidineededpersonality and @mourn3d not long ago, I'm going to be reading some of my work, new and old, on Instagram for shits and giggles. Well, in a way. It's partially to get better at reading in front of people live again (fucking sickness and TMJ made it tough today), but I know a few would rather listen to stories, like with audiobooks. Hopefully in the future, it'll go better. This was a clusterfuck of background noise, but outside was no better. I read poetry for that crowd and then one of my old stories that I love which never got much love lol, Drop The Game. Distractions are my worst enemy along with my fucked up mouth now and near-vomiting, yay. Obviously, Drop The Game is a mature fic, so uh, listen at your own risk?
With how sick I've felt this week and the health scares, just talking GTA anything with people (and the rehashed Whabooski drama from earlier this week) has me nostalgic for everything that went into these zines. I miss you, Hugo.

We say, "Yo, ah suh it go"
We don't say, "You get one chance"
We say, "You better rip the show"
Of course, I would have loved The Con to officially become the “one album that all Canadians need to hear,” but I have to say Kathleen Newman-Bremang’s pick, Quest for Fire: Firestarter, Vol. 1, is a great one, too.
When I first came to live in Toronto, I happened to go to several events Kardinal Offishall emceed and hosted, and he has that incredible energy and enthusiasm! I miss my adoptive city at the moment, and listening to BaKardi Slang takes me back...
