And finally, Russia has proof for this claim! And they can blame Zelenskyy again. 😉

Any thoughts on Zelenskyy’s leadership since the beginning of the war?
He's certainly shown his chops for being a strong leader, a far cry from the man he was before the election. His strong points were acting as a focal point for foreign attention, securing support and making statements, for projecting strength in the face of numerical supremacy which translates into a dogged defense, high morale, and willingness to accept casualties, and in the clever use of modern communications tools to help spread his message to a wide audience.
Most of the Western world was predisposed to support him. Eastern Europe still bears the scars of Soviet imperialism, particularly the Baltic states and Poland. However, the personal touch of leadership went a long way, and he (or his speechwriters) tailored his messages uniquely to appeal to his target audience - American idealism for Americans, Russian aggression for Eastern Europe, the European community for Western Europe, etc.
As I've mentioned before though, part of that was due to Russian incompetence and Ukrainian military skill. Europe is much more willing to back a fight if they believe there was a chance of victory, so in that sense, the corruption and incompetence of the Russian military is a contributor in the current political climate. But that too is a part of leadership, taking the situation in front of you and using the circumstances to unite those you are trying to lead behind you.
Thanks for the question, Anon.

Once condemned by Ukrainian officials and imprisoned for sadistic torture and the rape of minors, leaders of the notorious Tornado Battalion are free under Volodymyr Zelensky’s orders.
After banning virtually his entire political opposition, publishing a blacklist of foreign journalists and academics accused of advancing “Russian propaganda,” and ramming through a law exempting 70% of Ukrainians from workplace protections, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksy has freed from prison fascist militants convicted of some of the most heinous crimes the country has seen since World War II.
According to a July 11 report in Ukrainian media, Ruslan Onishenko, commander of the now-disbanded Tornado Battalion, was freed as part of President Zelensky’s scheme to release prisoners with combat experience. Along with an unwavering commitment to fascism, Onishenko is known as a psychopathic sadist who was involved in sexually assaulting children, brutally torturing prisoners, and murder.
Onishenko’s release follows a February 27 order by Zelensky to free other convicted former Tornado members like Danil “Mujahed” Lyashuk, a fanatic from Belarus who has openly emulated ISIS and boasted of torturing captives for sheer enjoyment. According to Zelensky‘s decree, prisoners with combat experience would be allowed to “compensate for their guilt” by fighting in the “hottest spots.”
Back in 2015, when the Ukrainian state provided official support to his Tornado Battalion, Onishenko texted two fellow “patriots,” Voldomor and Svetlana Savichuk, propositioning Svetlana Savichuk to “suck my cock in front of the [toddler] children.” (See screenshots of the conversation here). He also asked Savichuk to perform lewd acts on her children for his viewing pleasure. Despite the magnitude of his crimes, which included torture, murder, rape – including that of children – kidnapping, amputation, and more, Onishenko was sentenced to a mere 11 years in prison on April 11, 2017.
Now, after serving just five years of his sentence, the convicted predator has been freed by a president hailed by  Western patrons as a defender of democracy.

I suppose we all know by now that Zelensky was an actor and comedian before ending up president of Ukraine. The show that made him truly popular, and eventually elected as a president, Слуга народа (Servant of the People) is the story of a teacher (played by Zelensky) who in a chain of events, ends up randomly elected as president of Ukraine.

I watched it a while after Zelensky got elected back in 2019. It's an interesting series to watch just to understand how corruption works in Russia, Ukraine or any post-Soviet country, really as it works more or less the same in all ex-USSR. But what's the most interesting is that the morale and conclusion of this series is very Russian, I'd say even very Stalinist :
Democracy doesn't work for shit.
In the series the newly elected president tries to do well and to install fitting reforms, but he always ends up bumping against the walls that are the politicians, lobbyists, councillors in administrations that prevent the protagonists to do things correctly, throwing roadblocks every time he passes a law that may change the status quo, with every layer of the bureaucracy siphoning the funds etc. The series basically summarizes that for things to work, you should instead give the full reign to ONE efficient guy, and he'll fix all the problems by himself without bothering to go through all the crippling democratic processes that scourge the country. Obviously, it's exaggerated, but it's an opinion many people hold in the post-soviet world, in Russia or in Ukraine. It might even be a majority (hence Zelensky's election and Putin's approbation rates in Russia despite all the crazy shit). A head of state should be one guy overseeing everything and ensuring a semblance of order within the country.
I followed Zelensky's mandate with curiosity to see how should corruption be fixed: Is political commitment enough? Zelensky had it, so did Obrador in Mexico (it failed in both cases). Or, [spoilers alert] did you have to, like in the series, bring out the big guns and shoot down the corrupted bandits in the political sphere for the central power to regain a semblance of authority (you know, kind of like Putin did back in the early 2000's)? It's a satire comedy with baseline humour, no point in making cinematographic critiques of it. But as I watched it again during the first weeks of the "special operation", the irony of it all never left my mind, as Zelensky was portrayed as the new face of the free world while Putin was depicted as a literal Voldemort or [insert despot here].
