I don't have a fic to put this in but I think it would be funny if Edgeworth came out to only one person ever.

Like he sat Franziska down very seriously and scared and was like "I hope this will not lower your opinion of me," and she was convinced this ment something serious and scary and got genuinely concerned and also a little smug. Then he tells her and her response is just like "obviously. I have know this since I was 5 Miles. I cannot believe you would waste my time on something so foolish. It is evident to everyone"

Which he takes as him being the last person to know so there's no point telling anyone and revealing that he was stupid enough not to realise.

So Phoenix spends years stressing that he must not be gay because they're close right? They're close enough that he'd want to come out to him. So if he hasn't then he must just be in love with his straight best friend.

Maybe he finally says something about dating a guy or something a few years later and *cough Kristoph cough* Edgeworth doesn't mention that he's gay too in that conversation because that would be doing being a friend wrong and making it about him. And this just continues until Maya is told by Fran in an offhand comment and it gets to him that way because he's been moaning to her about his crush on his straight friend for years (which she heavily doubts but yeah he hasn't come out to anyone so maybe he hasn't figured that out yet) and she has to put him and more importantly her out of their misery
