God i want Hero to forgive Remthalas so bad.

like me, as a person, i'm having sushi when the war is over.

but the hero has been building up to this point with the sense that they do NOT want to kill the maleuous. they want to help them. they wanted to talk with sinnocense, they got the idea to save them from that "seed of evil" the Avatars were talking about, they wanted mr.nameless to be happy with Sally, they helped Lock and Key, the only person the hero had any negative or hostel intentions for was Vonya and Vonya threatened Draco.

and in the end i don't think we killed Vonya. We just beat her.

Remthalas wants to break The Hero. He is throwing everything thats ever hurt the hero at them. Remthalas wants to break the hero and honestly? a broken hero wouldn't plead with Remthalas to end the nightmare, a broken hero would break out of the nightmare and kill Remthalas.

Hero isn't going to break. If Hero breaks, thats honestly understandable (like i said, i'm heading out for sushi) but at the same time Hero has been pushing to have peaceful or at least friendly relations with the maleuous. And now the avatars can't interrupt and nuke Remthalas while hero talks to them, and Remthalas can't interrupt and kill who ever hero is trying to talk with cause Hero Is Talking With Remthalas.

I don't know how this war will end, but i know i want Hero to look Remthalas in the eye, carrying all the pain and grief of facing Aegis, Tomix, Serenity, Artix, and Mr.Nameless, and tell that abyssal elf "I forgive you."

yes hero is going to be mad. understandably so, this is the SECOND time Remthalas has trapped them in a dream. He pulled out TOMIX and SERENITY to Hurt Them. Hero is gonna be pissed, Hero is going to beat the scales off this fish, but Hero isn't going to kill them.

Because Hero isn't going to give Remthalas what he wants.

The Reawakening War had a rare wave that broke me as a player so obviously it had to break Ajax too.

Remthalas had been… Ajax couldn’t describe him as being friendly. Affable? Neutral? Not as antagonistic as he could have been. Up till now that is.

“Oh, whats this?” the abyss elf’s voice rang softly though the dream scape.

Ajax had been breaking everything in sight- slashing, bashing, clobbering manifestations of Doom and Destiny, fragments of madness, and memories from the previous battles he had faced- until he found Uaanta. He had almost tackled the older woman if it wasn’t for the fact that she had asked him to be more “professional”. Understandable, he was a little childish. He was surprised to see Vonya and hearing how gran- Uaanta… had called out to him and he didn’t show up sent a wave of sadness over him. After Remthalas took control of the Dream Vonya, he was suddenly very glad he hadn’t shown up. A flash of himself fighting and tormenting Uaanta came to mind and Ajax shook his head firmly to get the thought out of his head.

When that didn’t work, he went back to breaking the dream. Smash, crash, slash, bash.

And that’s how he ended up in this dream scape. It was full of stars and had only one space of solid form and shape.

“Destiny hasn’t been kind to you…” Remthalas’ voice is full of grief as if he has no control of what ever is waiting for Ajax.

The man peers into the star filled void to get a better look. He takes a few steps forward and a chill runs up his spine. It feels familiar be he can’t make it out, like a dream tends to be. Vague feelings and images that make sense in the moment but not when you’re awake. Ajax shakes off the feeling and draws his sword.

When he gets close enough to see, fully and properly, the dream… he wishes he hadn’t. He stands there and a feeling of true, honest, painful hate bubbles low in his stomach. His hands tremble and he chokes back these rare emotions of anger and fear. He can’t move, can’t take a step forward or back, frozen in place as the dream before him tilts it’s head with lack of a face.

“you were too late…” HIS voice rings, softly at first, though the dream scape.

Ajax feels himself panic. The dream takes a step forward and he raises his sword- it trembles and wobbles from how much he is shaking.

He had thought he would be over this. He thought he had accepted it. Ajax knew he wouldn’t have moved on as quickly as others had expected of him- who could?- but he thought if anything like this would happen he would be strong, he would be brave. He wouldn’t be trembling and close to tears.

“Tomix…” Ajax breathes as he gasps a breath. “Tomix don’t-“

“You can stop this from happening again.” The dream says, using HIS voice, taking steps towards Ajax.

He doesn’t want to do this again. He blinks and sees Envy possessing Tomix. He blinks again and the dream is closer. His vision blurs from tears as the memories rise higher and higher- “I’ll miss you” echoes in his head and Ajax gasps. He can’t hold his sword up anymore, his legs aren’t holding him up, it’s the way his armor was designed that is holding him up. He had taken a good, strong stance and now that his legs are numb and jelly the greaves and cuisse are locked and keeping him from falling forward.

He bites back a sob and shakes his head, hard. His hood flies back and he glares. He swallows his fear and hate and focuses as the dream gets closer. He refuses to acknowledge what the dream looks like (it helps that his face doesn’t exist) but its hard. His heart hurts like it did when he was smacking Envy with fishcalibur, hurting Tomix to try and end Envy. He has to be stronger then this, Ajax doesn’t know what happens if he dies here, if he’ll die in the waking world or if it will just be more torment.

But its Hard. The dream isn’t hostile, its just walking towards him. It’s a trap, a trick, Remthalas manipulating him-

“Ajax…” HIS voice. HE says. It was too real, too accurate.

Ajax shutters and shuffles back, but the dream keeps up and starts to reach for him, reach for his face. Its hard to hold back, its hard to tamper down the joy he is feeling because this is a dream, it can be what he wants, it can be nice, it can be real, it can be Tomix-

“…don’t let me fall.” Tomix says, hands coming up to cup the other’s cheeks.

Ajax is frozen. For a moment he sees golden eyes and white hair peeking through the scattered and stray strands of dream and memory. He can feel the nothing that came from Tomix’s soul hands- the cold emptiness, the distinct presence without solidity- and its instinctual how easily he gives in. The tears fall with his sword as it clatters to the ground, Ajax reaching up to hold Tomix’s wrist, to hold his “hand” to his cheek as he closes his eyes.

“I won’t-“ he says. “I won’t let you fall-“ he stifles sniffles and grits his teeth as the memories wash over him.

He isn’t going to let Tomix fall again. He is going to keep him right here, in front of him, safe. The mogloween when they met flashes behind his eye lids- he died for Tomix, he knows he’ll die for him again and again and again- followed by the time he found him in Drakonnan’s lair -he made a joke about how out of character it was, how strange it was, and Tomix refused to acknowledge it with a faint blush. Embarrassed he had gotten caught.- and Ajax’s mind falls into step as if nothing has changed. He hasn’t confessed his silly crush on the other, probably wouldn’t admit it even now, but he can indulge himself right now. For now. Now.

“Join Remthalas…” Tomix’s voice is very close, almost in Ajax’s ear. “…and you will understand.”

Ajax nods, tears streaming as more memories play. If he joins Remthalas he’ll understand. Ajax needs to understand. He remembers Ravenloss and how Tomix made a door even more locked after trying to break it. There is a pressure on his forehead and when he opens his eyes it’s Tomix’s face he sees. Whole and there. Pale skin, yellow eyes, white hair, scare across the bridge of his nose. He is pressing their foreheads together and smiling.

Its too much for some reason. A sob punches out of Ajax and he closes his eyes again, letting go of the man’s wrist and pulling him into a hug. This should be fine, Tomix is here, he is Right Here, right?

He feels real. He feels solid. He feels there. “I won’t let you fall.” Ajax whispers. “I pro-“

Their time on the void ship lurches forward in his mind as Tomix hugs him back and holds him. Ajax remembers Tomix leaning on the railing, cheeks sunken and eyes carrying heavy bags. He hears the memory- “we’d get married, open up a small weaving shop…”- and something presses against the side of his head. It takes a moment to register as a kiss. Platonic, of course, because... he isn’t sure why. Ajax gets lost in thought as the memory burns at the sensation, like something is wrong. Why is this wrong? It starts over- “I’d graduate from Edelia, travel the world, find a-“- and it scrambles. It scrambles like… something familiar.

“You can be free.” Tomix says into his ear and its such a nice sound, hearing Tomix say-

“Find A Wife.”

A wife… right. Tomix wanted a wife, he wanted to grow old with a wife but everything with Envy and the other corrupted spirits, Khvorost’s cruel prank gone awry, and then his death-

Tomix was dead- but he is right here-

“Hero…” its what Tomix actually called him, its Tomix’s voice, but its in Ajax’s head. He shivers as his body grows hot and cold. “Wake up, my friend.”

He snaps his eyes open and sees the stars. He is in the dream scape. It would only be in his dreams that he would be like this with Tomix, this isn’t Tomix, This isn’t a memory, This is-

“Let me show you.” The dream says and Ajax’s heart drops.

This isn’t Tomix he is holding. Tomix wasn’t tender like that to him, ever, not even in Ajax’s wildest dreams! And this Tomix…

The sensation of weaver claws gutting Ajax didn’t hurt as much as the pieces falling into place.

“Remthalas.” Ajax’s voice was firm. Solid. Angry. “If you did what I think you did…” that hate bubbled up and out of his throat. “…I’m going to kill you.”

He isn’t holding Tomix, he is holding a subconscious manifestation of Ajax’s friend possessed by the abyss elf. It wasn’t Tomix or even the manifestation holding his face, it was Remthalas. It wasn’t Ajax’s make believe fantasy of Tomix that placed a kiss to the side of his head, it was-

“I wouldn’t have done it if you had just cooperated.” Remthalas’ voice slips though past the Tkaanie accent and Ajax…

Ajax isn’t an angry person. He knows he is capable of it, has felt something close to it, he knows he had gotten angry and frustrated at Dr.When, but this is stronger. Worse. This is hate that bubbles up and chokes him. It seems though his armor though the wound the dream did to him, dripping to the ground with a few drops of blood. Ajax isn’t a hateful person, he doesn’t remember ever feeling Hate.

He commits the feeling to memory as a familiar pain shoots though his back. It’s a pain he wasn’t aware that he knew and would remember. He remembers Cysero taking him back in time with the phone booth, he remembers being frustrated to tears, consumed by fear.

He remembers he asked Kathool Achoo for help. As the hate drowns him and the dream is torn to shreds Ajax grows numb. He is cold, his lungs are full of water, and as he reaches down with his hand to take up his sword he takes a breath, the tendrils stretching and flexing, wiping themselves clean of what ever remains or viscera the dream had left behind. One tentacle reaches out and wraps around his chest, the wound healing quickly but pressure was still needed. It feels real, freeing.

His soul resisted… but he isn’t sure his heart and mind could do the same.
