as both a kp and vp stan — the reason some ppl think kp is boring now is not bc of kp at all. after all, the whole first 11 episodes were all about them and y’all were invested the whole way and are still watching lol. the reason you find them boring is bc you are only interested in the beginning of a relationship, not the middle. hence, why you are so focused on vp (and dismissive of kp), as they have come in in the last four eps — they will still be at the beginning of their relationship by the time the series ends. you get excited by the mystery and thrill of a new relationship/dynamic, but aren’t actually interested in seeing an established relationship. i think vp are incredibly interesting and I am very invested — just as I was with kp at the beginning of their relationship. i am no less invested, but it is normal for the excitement to wear off a little once the relationship is established. you need to have patience and emotional commitment to appreciate it bc it’s not a shiny new thing anymore. there’s nothing wrong with that, just thought I’d point that out.

https://youtu.be/fipafHfc650 have you watched this video? I think it's really interesting and the analysis is spot on especially when they talk about mileapo's chemistry (and the difference between kinnporsche and vegaspete scenes)
Anon, are you trying to get me in trouble with the VP fans?! 🤣🤣🤣
I have watched this. I will say in general it's good, and I recommend everyone give it a watch if you have the chance.
youtube
But if you don't, I'm going to highlight the key points from the essay in order to respond and also some minor points of contention I have.
Mile and Apo set a new standard for chemistry in BL, and fans are not going to be satisfied with the same dead fish kisses they've been seeing in a lot of BLs. (Agreed, this point has been iterated before by other bloggers on tumblr too)
Their kisses are exceptional acting. (The thesis of this post, and I'm guessing why you linked me to the video.) The essayist highlights three items as what makes a great kiss scene: the physical, the emotional, and the lexical.
VP's sex scene is a combination of multiple takes and B-roll likely because they couldn't get one shot that was cohesive enough to use. (this is a fact, I can't dispute it and other people in VP fandom too have noted it). This is in contrast to KP's NC scenes which are usually one take. The video essayist theorizes the BDSM element could have caused more elements for the actors to be uncomfortable and recommends that they work on their chemistry between seasons, provided there is an S2.
I'm gonna focus on chemistry as the subject of this ask.
First of all: What is chemistry?
Chemistry such a vague concept people talk about and never define that you can really only talk about it as "you know it when you see it." But it's so innately recognizable that it's something you can see on video and in still photos.
I would define it as a function of who the people (actors) are to each other. Let me highlight one (extreme) example with MileApo at the Dream Salon Farger event.
This is what I would consider reasonably neutral friendly body language. They're seated in two different chairs, but they are looking at each other and engaging.
Tumblr media
Then Mile gets asked a question about confessing and they literally start leaning into each other even though Mile is supposedly talking to the audience.
Tumblr media
Then he finishes answering the question with direct eye contact with Apo. Now he's answering the question only for Apo at this point. They're in their own little world, we're just witnessing it.
Tumblr media
Also something that's haunted me the longest time... what the hell Apo, why are you shy about Mile answering a question about flirting in private. I mean we all know why but. GOd.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
??? what the hell.
ANYWAY. The point is, the chemistry between them is so visible they're literally like magnets pulling towards each other. These are all stills from the video. Even though they started out from a fairly neutral position, their bodies and eyes are innately drawn into each other.
If you have an example this obvious you can tell it's happening even though not everyone might be able to verbalize why you can see the chemistry.
My opinion on actor chemistry is that you can't fake it and you can't really make it happen. It's also not a function of how good the actor is at acting.
Let me give you an example of that. I would consider one of the gold standards of cinematic chemistry to be Daniel Craig as James Bond meeting Eva Green's Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale. And while I haven't watched Blue is the Warmest Color, Léa Seydoux and Adèle Exarchopoulos's chemistry in the film is what has made it one of the great recent queer cult classics.
Yet Daniel Craig and Léa Seydoux have absolutely no chemistry. I was kind of shocked when they got together because their lack of chemistry was so palpable I couldn't see it coming. Two actors who have previously displayed incredible chemistry with other costars and are great actors in my opinion just don't...click.
That's why you cast for chemistry.
So my criticism of the essayist's point they need to work on it is, I don't think they can... I will say, Daniel and Lea's chemistry in No Time to Die was slightly better, but it's not a function of familiarity. If it's not there, then it's not there.
I don't think Bible and Build "lack" chemistry to the same extent as Daniel and Lea above... I actually think it's not terrible, but it doesn't come off at the same explosive level as Mile and Apo's. I would say they operate on a good level we see in a lot of normal-level romantically cast pairings. As for why the NC scene came off as awkward, I do think it's familiarity with each other in the context of that kind of storytelling. Remember that Mile and Apo also spent a year making out with each other for practice too 🤪
What is chemistry in the context of storytelling?
For me, in good storytelling, actor chemistry is usually used in opposition to the events of the story. The chemistry is what glues the characters together while the events unfolding pull them apart. The visible chemistry is the "why" that keeps them coming back together and fighting for a relationship even though intellectually it doesn't make sense.
And by relationship I don't necessarily mean romantic, though sometimes actors get cast for romantic chemistry even when the relationship is meant to be read as platonic. An infamous example of that is Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy in the X-Men reboot.
Tumblr media
Their chemistry isn't as intense as MA's (I mean, most people aren't unless if they're actively in a scene trying to bring that out), but if you watch a live video of them, they're magnets for each other too.
And the filmmakers used this kind of chemistry to build the story around why two people might have the type of friendship that crosses a turmulous multi-decade civil rights divide and explains why two people would continue to care about each deeply other despite all the history between them and how much space and time they spend apart.
So do BibleBuild cross that threshold for VegasPete? I would say... actually yeah. Despite all the fucked up things that happened between them, I personally could believe at the end that Pete would throw away all he knew to stand by a man who had kidnapped and tortured him and claimed he had nothing left to offer Pete.
I would actually say the problematic lack of chemistry is between Jeff and Barcode. I love Barcode as Chay, but the original cast Gameplay just had much more chemistry with Jeff. Actually it threw me off how much I felt when Kim found the photos Chay had left him because somehow Jeff created more KimChay chemistry with photos than when Barcode-as-Chay was in the room with him... 😥
It's Physics More Than Chemistry, Baby
Here's the thing, and what I think the essayist was trying to say. I don't think the problem with VegasPete's NC was BBB's lack of chemistry. I think it was the lack of familiarity and comfort. The BDSM elements might have thrown them off, but I do think it's a fundamental discomfort with the NC scenes for them. It comes off as inorganic.
I'm going to get so much shit for this but in for a penny, out for a pound I guess.
MaxTul is considered the king of BL chemistry, and watching manner of death, I would actually agree. They have great chemistry.
But this gifset I saw of them? 😬
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is not the body language of two people ready to get it on. There's so much intentional space between their bodies. There's no rhythm. They're deliberately trying to not have their groins touch. It's so inorganic. It's not a dance between two partners.
The "choreography" of this scene is a close match to Porsche seducing Kinn in episode 9, and yet the difference in authenticity between the two scenes is so vast.
A scene like this is not something you can't rely on just chemistry for, there needs to be comfort and coordination in what's happening between the two actors. That's why it's acting.
I think that's what the essayist and a lot of people see is lacking in VegasPete's NC scene. But this is fixable. It's not a chemistry problem, because that is not really fixable.

Cinematography & Mood - VP
(Ep 12 Meta - *Love Scene* 1/2)
Ah, so they finally did it. Idk about anyone else, but while the sex was in line with my expectations, how they got there was not at all what I expected. Yes, I’m talking about the hedgehog, but I’m also talking about Pete. We’ve talked so much about agency and needing to see Pete claim that for himself, but here we actually see him take it. It’s quite simply glorious.
Anyway, idk who the anon is that asked for a shot by shot breakdown of this scene, but I’m going to try to provide as in-depth of an analysis as my conscience will allow. 😅 Let’s proceed. (Minor **TW** since I will be referring to the torture we’ve seen previously.)
**While writing this post, I realized that I have way too much to say to cover so many topics, so I’m going to make a separate post about lighting and color specifically, which you can find here: Color & Expression.
Exchange of Control
Before I get deeper into the cinematographic aspects of this scene, I want to defer attentions to a few specific posts I’ve made about agency for VP, because the exchange of control is what ultimately defines this scene. The metaphorical exchange is assisted by a range of shots designed to frame our characters in specific ways. More on that in a moment.
The links: “You’re a psycho,” Boundaries, KP First Time Vs. VP First Time
The critical factor I would like to highlight is this: Vegas could force Pete, but he doesn’t. Pete could resist Vegas (or, at least, make attempts to fight his advances), but he doesn’t. Vegas gives control to Pete so that Pete can give it back to him. The physicality of the scene is really just a metaphor for the vulnerability of their relationship and the boundaries they’ve formed. In my opinion, that’s precisely what’s elevated all of KinnPorsche’s love scenes so far. It’s not about the sex, it’s about the emotions behind the sex. I’m a firm believer that most sex scenes in television are completely unnecessary, but in KinnPorsche they are always intended to highlight the characters’ emotional states. That’s incredibly apparent here, as Vegas is knee-deep in his own despair.
One final note here to keep in mind: Even though it seems like Vegas is the one in control for the majority of the scene, it’s all Pete. Pete subtly gives permission even before the sex scene begins.
Cinematography
Tumblr media
This analysis ultimately demands a discussion of Vegas and Pete’s placement in the scene, which is undoubtedly designed to establish a power structure. We see Vegas start to hurt himself, Pete jump to stop him, all of which is followed by this^. For a moment, we see Vegas sitting on the side of the bed looking up at Pete; from a viewer’s perspective, this puts Pete in the dominant position. Additionally, film usually shows characters moving from left to right, as it is the natural course of the eye’s movement. It makes sense that for this interaction, Pete would be on the right side of the screen while Vegas is on the left. I also think that Pete being on the right is a bit of a power move, because Vegas is the one coming to him.
Tumblr media
We see both Vegas and Pete in the same frame for much of this section, and it’s incredibly tight on both of their faces. Even though they’re shown together for the majority of these shots, the camera flips back and forth between them in a way that reminds me a lot of their first torture scene back in Ep11. The show seems to acknowledge that former negative tension through the music choice here (which I will get into more later).
The camera does an interesting maneuver after this, when things are first getting heated. I wish I could find a GIF to capture it, but I’ll just describe instead: it pans down and up with their movements almost jarringly--which seems to describe the majority of the camera choices in this scene. The pace is quick, never slowing down. Contrast this to the slow deliberation of KP’s love scene in Ep4. It all feels very intentional to represent the inherent differences in these relationships. It is rather interesting to me, however, that the show portrays a dubiously consensual love scene between KP as entirely romantic, while a scene that is consensual is incredibly intense and--I might even go so far as to say--negatively charged.
Moving on. The camera focuses on specific body movements: Pete grabbing the chains, clothes being removed, etc. Like the camera movements, focusing on their bodies creates an atmosphere of lust rather than romance. Personally, I don’t view this scene as very romantic at all in the traditional sense; it’s certainly packed with emotion, but I see the sex as an outlet for their individual pain. The kind of individual pain they can only let out with each other. Vegas treats Pete so tenderly in this scene precisely because Pete is the only person that sees him beyond all that brokenness—that acknowledges who he could be without all the hurt piled on his shoulders. It’s more about Vegas right now, but I think we’ll see more of Pete’s side soon.
Tumblr media
Again with angles, we have a low angle shot over Pete’s shoulder staring up at Vegas, placing the power in his hands. I’ve notice they seem to have put a slow-motion effect on the section where Vegas binds Pete’s hands, perhaps to emphasize this submission of power. It’s then emphasized even more with the close up of Vegas kissing Pete’s fists--an acknowledgment of the power Pete has submitted to him, and a promise, of sorts, to respect that sacrifice. (Now, if you’re like me, you’re asking yourself why Vegas of all people should be trusted with that kind of power, but that’s what’s so poignant; things are messy when Vegas takes control without permission, but when that permission is handed to him, he respects it...when it comes to Pete, anyway.)
Tumblr media
The proceeding camera angles are really unlike anything we’ve seen before from this show. KP’s Ep4 love scene opted for intimate angles that were relatively straightforward. But here, the camera tilts at angles, all to accentuate the positioning of Vegas and Pete as the dominant and submissive, respectively. It also makes everything feel a bit uncomfortable from a viewing standpoint which, again, seems to be the point.
Notice also how the camera never stops moving. The scene is constantly pushing forward, and we’re not given a moment to even stop and breathe through it.
The two predominant camera angles at this point seem to be one just behind Pete’s head--again, showing Vegas over him, thereby giving him power--and one showing a side profile of both of them. My main takeaway from most of the side profile shots (positionally) is that even though Pete is under Vegas, Pete is still in a very powerful position because he gave Vegas that permission in the first place. These dominant angles are intercut by smatterings of close-ups, again placing emphasis on the bodies. For a brief moment in there, we get to see Vegas and Pete’s expressions. For the most part though, their faces--when shown--are cast in shadow.
Tumblr media
I do want to briefly mention the light kiss Vegas gives Pete before laying back, because amidst all the pulse-pounding lustful energy they’re feeding us, this shot is especially tender.
Until...
Tumblr media
We get to see Pete’s smile specifically here, but the ending highlights both of their expressions. It’s interesting that they end with an upside-down shot, but I suppose that could be a reference to how upside-down their situation is. I don’t think Vegas ever expected anything consensual to happen between him and Pete, and I think that could be part of what we see in his contented expression.
Tumblr media
Final note on the cinematography: positionally, their foreheads are pressed together, and they’re on the same level now. They’ve just had a willing exchange of power, but there’s a new sense of intimacy here. Someone like Vegas seems like the kind of guy to neglect things like aftercare--just an assumption based on his use of sex as manipulation--so for the show to lean into this after moment at all is significant to me.
Music
There are a lot of synth tones in this scene, even at the end, when the tension should dissipate. I personally think it would’ve been incredibly effective to see that music fade out for these final shots of them. Honestly, I’m still trying to sort out my opinion on it. I don’t think a slow romantic track would’ve worked well (definitely not the instrumental theme song), but maybe something more sinister and less intense? It made me feel anxious throughout the scene, which might be the intention, but I’m not sure if I liked that aspect or not.
Anyways, that’s my thoughts on the cinematography. For more KP meta, look here: KinnPorsche Analysis Threads.

✨ Oh that is a good point! They must feel so familiar but then in person you realise they are in fact strangers - that must feel quite jarring. Papa Chessum seems adorable! As do all the families tbh? I think they've been so involved in their sons careers that meeting so many people along the way & revelling in the whole experience must just be so exciting - whereas the partners of the players haven't been around for all that so probably feel more uncomfortable with it...
I always remember Chloe Madeley (James Haskell's wife) saying on his podcast that the wive's and gf's always felt so much pressure to dress up for games & to look a certain way as people would constantly look them up and down & judge them ☹️ She also said they would be always freezing at six nations games because of their 'dress to impress' outfits and that Eddie Jones understood and was incredibly sweet by getting them heated blankets to keep them warm 😭💕
Omg you climbed over Bevan?? 😂😆 [I would stay well clear of that boy after watching that calorie vid of his - jesussss 😂👀]
Guarantee the ones who looked older had faces full of filler...? 😞
Also culture shock is such a real thing omg, one of my siblings has a foreign partner and as lovely as they are, we have just never gelled? Not through lack of trying of course but yeh...culture is so interesting no?
Seen a super cool documentary about fillers it really stopped my ideas to get some ever ! Also everyone is starting to look the same just see the hairstyles as well... It is getting scary. I think it is too much efforts for something that will fade away plus when you stop cultivating what is inside yourself it is when it gets bad... I mean I may not be the prettiest but I do know for sure I can be captivating.
Papa chess always call everyone buddy or mate or something along those lines to men and women it is funny. Families are all very closed, the vP are more discreet than the stews... You can be fooled by Jeff in a crowd and not recognize him but not Sarah , he is her carbon copy it is insane and she is so pretty????? He was alone anyways. He was not seated with anyone family and wasn't Seated with freddy's friends he came with he was on his own in a seat near staircases so he could moove easily with his boot.
Completely amazed each time I see them in 3D I am never completely used to it.
Also used to be over the moon and find that he was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in 29 years of life and believedme I have seen a lot of museums. Lies Lies Lies... You know when you see in a glimpse someone true self without any barriers, his personality but it is rotten inside that it turns the person uggly instantly ?? This happened. Like a repulsive instinctive movement of being take aback.
So different than watching the Tv. I have seen tons and tons of images of Jack over the year that I can do galaxy maps out of his moles and yet... He looked smaller sweaty and vain that day. He was just a boy. Some boy. But a boy. It vacillated in front of me in a fraction of a second my brain didn't compute and was there like why am I inflicting this situation to myself. It hurts. Go.
I recall his clumsy movements, the cotton of his t-shirt , the heavy bracelet of his watch , his eyes being glazed and very wide, and his hair going greasy on his forehead, for a reason he is always warm his body always radiates like a heater. I could write chapters just to describe him.
So you have at least the end of the story and I get a closure perhaps.

As soon as the second half started I ran out in the stairs and even took the wrong way before noticing, I was shaking like a leaf my ancestors must have felt it.
Like I said I asked Max Malins where Jack was by showing him my drawing to him, his girlfriend, and Josie, Ben Earl's girlfriend who was very sweet was complimenting it so I was slightly reinforced I wasn't totally off in my intentions.
I tried again to run through the stairs and one of the stewards noticed me this time. Asking me a bit with disdain if I had finally found him, she said she would ask another steward close to the staff if he was there. The other one came and didn't recognize him from the drawing, I gave him his name and he told me he wasn't playing (no kidding sir... I know that) . I told them both that the players and families assured me he was there, I knew I did not have a lot of time before they would ask me to go back ASAP to my seat so I scanned for one last time the crowd and there he was. In a *SNAP* I just saw him and didn't let them finish telling me anything I just said mostly for me: THERE, SEE HE IS THERE!! TOLD YOU!! and instantly, instinctively moved forward.
To reach him I had to do some acrobatics and climb rows of seats I asked nicely to pass to someone who indeed was Bevan Rodd but I couldn't care less I had the aim to reach Jack before he could go away so I had to pass between Bevan and his family to land on the hole to hope seeing Jack, doing so I hit hard my knee to the forward row of seats.
A few steps with a muted pain in my right knee is what was separating me from my encounter with the backside of Jack in his black t-shirt finishing to discuss with people around. Lewis Ludlam was on his phone occupied on the next row to my right. I took my chances and it was after a light tap on his back that I was finally facing Jack.
He seemed surprised , glazed eyes who seemed twitching : oh it's you ! You found me !
He said : heeeyy ! I just had the drawing in front of me he laughed and he said You alright? and engulfing me in a hug, I whispered in his ear that it had been difficult to find him. I asked him if he would be ok just to take a selfie . A selfie ! Right! no problem, he was letting me to open my phone ready to take one but then Lewis said to me if you want I can take the pictures for me so I gave him my phone and Jack was abandoning me already talking to someone else. I said to Lewis I was running the fanpage of Jack a bit excusing myself for intruding and explaining why I was exactly there. He absolutely didn't cared a flying fuck but said oh alright. Jack... The selfie.. Jack ? JACK ! JVP !!!
He was so embarrassed for me that JvP was totally elsewhere.
oh yes yes ! He grabbed me close and while Lewis was taking the pictures I was asking Jack if we could have one less formal more "quirky" and he didn't understand and kept on repeating what ? uuhmWhat? laughing. and I said in my balbuting English you know doing faces pull the tongue. Quirky.! He seemed horrified and moved away so I asked him right after that why he was not following the fanpage and he started to be vague and telling me that he would never follow it and started an embarrassed because... and I asked him if it was because of the club he said no but that he wanted to keep a low profile. The amount of profiles he follows doesn't really sound low profile to me but I will not start to argue.
I think he saw my look because he instantly defended himself with reinforcement of gestures with his hands: but I go watch it tho you know!!!! And he promised he would continue to do so. He then proceeded to tell me he had to go because the match would be back on soon and it was when I tried to let him pass that my hand landed on his abs because he literally escaped, exchanged an intended look with Bevan and I followed him to his seat because I still had his drawing in hand and it couldn't end like this, it was the worst interaction we ever had.
I called him back and gave him the drawing and he said: no.
no , no-no
I said why ??? I was completely shocked to be entirely honest. Because he could have trashed it right after it I wouldn't have cared but for me, to refuse that simple piece of paper it was like crucifying me, crushing my efforts, with his simple no that he repeated in loop after, I pictured instantly all the previous giftbags I gave him in the bin. Don't you like it ? It's badly drawn? ♫*bad blood by Taylor Swift in my head*♫
No no it's not that you are talented it's really well done, you should keep it. He was a bit showing himself not having a bag and his empty pocket and then.
So disappointed, I had my ego replying to him instantly: sign it then at least!
He said ok , I asked him if he would be in Leicester on the 3rd of December because I had more pleasant gifts than a drawing to give him and he smiled nodding. While signing my drawing one woman went in the way while regaining her seat, and proceeded to completely empty on the floor the full beer cup he had left next to his seat to be empty-handed. She recognized him and was super flustered while he was SO PISSED OFF. He was giving me back the pen and drawing completely distraught and afflicted. He had enough.
I just thanked him again for the video before leaving and he said he was again very sorry that it had taken so long for him to reply ...
I remember I remember, his eyes flickering a silent but kind: I know who you are I haven't forgotten you now go you can go
I left.
I wished to cry but couldn't, like I couldn't explain to my father the bruise forming on my knee huge as a potato, or the bruise even bigger to my ego. I cried a lot after that. He kept his promises and came back on his own a lot of times on the page just the day after like an excuse but it's me seeing things. It was too late anyway.
I left my childhood and illusions in that stadium.
Life went on.
It doesn't seem like a lot because after all he didn't owe me anything but it hit hard, usually my job = me, so knowing I was doing the page in vain and that he absolutely doesn't care about anything was a huge blow. I felt like I was embarrassing him, felt embarrassed by the whole situation and talking about cultural differences: I think I may just be a lot, he is cuddly and tactile but it's not the same as being warm and close. Obviously, it's normal to put distances but then don't grab me, the ambivalence was part of the problem and it always was from day one. He should have put distances from day one and not broken them from himself by DM me , it is how it started and then he just kept on giving on and on. His family and friends following... all the hugs and then some likes , the views, I can count all
I have received and that I have entertained as well and that we in a way both entertained as he could have stopped coming he could have deleted the page ....So yeah thing is it was weird and not satisfying interaction, I felt it like a broken heart and collected the pieces of it back home. I think it wasn't the right time for sure and I should have known but it was so unexpected for him to show up and I had bought those RWC tickets to see him... I don't know maybe
it was all a fever dream as I was alone to experience it when usually someone is there with me to relate the same story with a different point of view...
That was the story of the downfall of my love for Jack.
Cute point it is how close I was to second babey

Hey so, did you have any theories about the Chairman's identity before TTO went offline?
I had two, mutually exclusive, theories:
He's Pete (from the Mickey Mouse Cartoons).
He's a supercomputer.
(Sorry about the flood of Asks, it's been a while since I've been able to talk about Toontown to someone who's actually a fan of Toontown.)
i don't mind! ^^ it makes me really happy seeing others interested in the game as well. i don't know if it's just a problem on my end, but the toontag is usually pretty quiet, so any toontown related asks are welcomed.
as for your question... i can't exactly say i have theories on his *identity* because we were technically already shown who he was early on in the game's lifespan. in the early days of tto, there was a short animated video that played while waiting for the game to install that shows us backstory on how cogs were created. i can't link the video bc i'm on mobile but the gist of what happens is that scrooge visits gyro's lab one night and finds one if his inventions which is a giant robot (the chairman), messes around with the wiring which causes it to go haywire, and, after witnessing the robot create cogs gets captured. if you search up "Toontown Online - 2003 Installer Video" on youtube, you can watch it for yourself.
at some point, disney got rid of the installer video. i can't tell you when they did or a definitive reason why, bc googling yields no results and i would've been way too young to remember anyways, but it's a piece of toontown's lore that's pretty unknown.
i believe the reasons why they MIGHT'VE taken down the video is... a) the chairman had a redesign. kind of flimsy reasoning but.. before i knew about the installer video's existence, i thought the big head you see when you walk into the sellbot factory was a statue of the chairman bc the head mesh wasn't found anywhere. taking down the video to avoid confusion in the sudden design change would make sense but it'd also be incredibly early since sellbot hq was released the same year tto was created (7 months apart!). i know that early draft sellbot hq was different than the one we know now, (re: it was harder, there was going to be an arm factory, a leg factory, etc. you would lose a suit part if you lost a vp battle iirc) but i have no idea if that og design was actually in-game for a period of time before it went through a redesign later. regardless, it's something!
b) they decided to save the chairman reveal for the second game in the works. did you know there were plans for a 2nd toontown game? well now you do! only issue with this theory is the plans for a 2nd game weren't until '10. bossbot hq was released in '08 and is the only other time the chairman was mentioned. unless it was foreshadowing, why wait an extra 2 years? why not get rid of the line? additionally, 7 years to get rid of the video seems too long esp considering it's not as well known but that's just me. ahg, i wish google or the wiki said when the installer video was taken down. it makes things easier 😞
c) due to budget constraints, they decided to completely drop the ball in developing toontown's story. pretty self-explanatory. at some point, the business model toontown was running on became ineffective and they weren't raking as much money as before. i believe it was during '09 where things started going downhill bc there was a worsening hacker issue and club penguin was getting more memberships while toontown was getting less. an unfortunate coincidence if true, bc bossbot hq was only released for a year that time.
so yeah! these are my thoughts. i'm sorry if you were expecting a different, shorter answer. when you mentioned the chairman it reminded me of that video and it spiraled into this chaotic mess of a timeline. i hope it was a good read nonetheless? characterization-wise i do view chairman as a supercomputer or AI of sorts that got corrupted due to crossed wires and became progressively worse as time went on but i feel that's less of a theory and more of a headcanon, hence why i put this in the end.

hi! really like your kinn x porsche gifset for the recent ep! but just wondering..i rmb you mentioned you would be more interested in the next vegaspete scene than the pool scene? but i see you gifed the bit from the pool scene even if you felt vegaspete was ‘superior’. just wondering 😬 good day! 😇
hi, dear anonnie! okay, you didn't have to come at me like that
well you need to know something about me before we continue. i easily got bored when the couple is finally together and all sweet with each other. i drop most shows or watching them very briefly when the lovey-dovey phase comes. I usually don't enjoy the show as much as I did in the beginning
the same thing happened with kinnporsche. I don't know if you saw but after ep8 I've said that that much sweetness is not for me i didn't even have any set ideas in mind. I also made and angsty edit just after two episodes of kp lol craving angst already in that time. don't get me wrong i want them to be happy and in love it's just my preference as a viewer
and here's when vp comes. when i was like "it's too sweet for my poor heart" they gave me the angsty couple with insane chemistry and very complicated relationship to get obsessed to again. and of course i prefer them more now. but I'm sure this whole bored part will happen with vp too when i see them in their lovey-dovey phase (in some kind of imaginary season 2)
and now let me talk about the pool scene itself. they've been hyping this up for two months so much that i naturally assumed (and we all naturally assumed) that this will be another hot and passionate nc scene. what i didn't expect is for that to be angsty and tender and full of mostly bad emotions (you can't convince me otherwise it was a goodbye s*ex okay). and i need to tell you that my favorite nc scene of them is that desperate one in the end of the ep7 and this one comes very closely to that one. so yeah i loved this tender worshipping and loving act full of complicated emotions and made a set. sue me i guess
also the way mileapo delivered this scene? incredible, immaculate, perfect and go on
and I don't really know why I'm answering this ask and defending myself in some weird kind of way lol. i just wanna say that let us have different preferences and different tastes. I've never said anything offending about either mileapo or kinnporsche and I'll never say something like that. mileapo is an amazing duo that act so perfectly in every scene your brain just shuts itself down. but yes for me vegaspete is more interesting rn. I've never seen that kind of relationship on screen and it's truly fascinating to see how writers write their asses out of this mess. because it's a huge mess.
and good day to you too, dear!

The Bright Side of 2020
It's easy to say that 2020 was an awful year. Because it was. 2020 is easily one of the worst years in a while, filled with death, depression, economic collapse, a pandemic, and even the word 'poggers' becoming a thing.
Seriously, what the hell is 'poggers?!' The more I see it, the less it makes sense to me!
2020 was filled to the brim with so many awful moments. In no way should we forget any of it, and heaven forbid that we ignore all of it.
But that doesn't mean we should let the bad overshadow the good.
As we enter the last month of the dumpster fire that is this year, let us look over the good that came from it. Because I don't want to end 2020 with a whimper, but at least with a little glimmer of hope.
So here is my list:
Joe Biden has been elected as our new president, and the entire world had collectively celebrated. Sure, Trump is reacting to the news like a toddler who won't share his ball and decided to run home crying to his mommy. But by January, we will never talk about this man again, and America will remember him as he was back in 2016: A bad joke that wasn’t that funny to begin with, and has been annoying to hear since the beginning.
Our new vice president will not only be the first female VP but will also be a VP who is an African American, an Asian American, and an Indian American. It doesn't make up for the years when old white dudes were in charge, but it's a start. So let's take a moment to appreciate our new VP, shall we...That was nice. Next!
Voice actors who are people of color are given more of a chance to voice characters who are POC as well. It gets better as white VAs are getting replaced with VAs with the correct background to perform as specific characters. You can make the argument that a voice is a voice and that it doesn't matter who the face behind it is as long as the performance is still good. But if you're going to go the progressive route anyway, then why not go all the way with hiring actors to portray their own race/culture?
Several comedians kept us laughing despite how the year got worse and worse and how emotionally drained they were because of it. Laughter is the best medicine and boy, does it help that I can still laugh off the pain this year brought.
On a darker note: Online personalities Ryan Haywood from Achievement Hunter and Adam Kovic from Funhaus were revealed to dealing in sexual misconducts with their fans. On the surface, this seems like a bad thing. And with the betrayal and heartbreak that came from it, it certainly seems like so. But look at it this way: These monsters would have continued to do such awful things, regardless if they got caught this year or not. And while it pains me to know so many good videos are going to be deleted, some of which helped me on days that I needed a laugh the most, it is good knowing that Haywood and Kovic won't get away with what they did again. Because we won’t let them.
Back to a lighter note: A rare yellow turtle was discovered in India, and I am in love with this thing! I thought it was a mustard stain at first when I saw the photo, but it's a turtle. And it's adorable. And I will not rest until I find it and give it cuddles it deserves. Which is all of the cuddles.
So many incredible LGBTQ+ representations were given this year! Yes, that whole thing with Dean and Castiel was unforgettable as much as it is unforgivable. But if you ignore the live-action side of things and look at animation, you will find things are brighter than a rainbow over a pride parade. Catra and Adora finally kissed in a moment that was both satisfying and beautiful. Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn became a couple in Harley Quinn, giving comic fans something they wanted for years. Adventure Time fans were given a forty-five-minute episode filled with adorable moment after adorable moment of Marceline and Princess Bubblegum being an operant couple. Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts has a character who explicitly says, "I'm gay," and even gets a boyfriend in the end (I think. I haven't finished the show yet). And Disney has finally, F**KING FINALLY, taken steps in the right direction with their new hit: The Owl House. A series where the main character is a bisexual Latina who has a same-sex love interest that has an explicit crush on the main character.
And while we're on the topic of entertainment: HOLY S**T, have you seen the quality content we got this year?
Amazing animated shows came out with hit after hit with series like The Midnight Gospel, The Owl House, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, Central Park, and many, many more. Shows that are hilarious, beautifully animated, and tell compelling stories with equally compelling characters.
Adventure Time, Animaniacs, Eddsworld, Phineas and Ferb, and Crash Bandicoot came back with revivals, reboots, specials, and long-awaited sequels that were not just as good as they were before leaving, but in some ways, are even better.
A recorded performance of Hamilton can now be seen on Disney+, meaning that theater kids can finally see the show they have been obsessing over since that soundtrack came out.
HBOmax took shows from DC's piece of s**t streaming service, meaning that fans can watch Doom Patrol and Harley Quinn on a service that's actually worth the price...Titans can suck a dick. But Doom Patrol and Harley Quinn! Doom Patrol and Harley Quinn!
Avatar: The Last Airbender and Community is on Netflix now...so go watch them.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a game that stars the famous bi-racial Spider-Man, that also shows off the color and diversity that is present in the people of Harlem. And given what happened this year, that is definitely appreciated. Not to mention that I’ve heard it's a fun game on top of that!
And that's just the s**t I can think of off the top of my head. There are plenty more good things that came this year, some of which I'm sure is better than what I put on this list. All a person has to do is do some research, which I encourage you to do yourself.
Don't let 2020 win by beating you down. Instead, let's focus on the bright side to stop the dark shadow of a year from taking over.
And I'm begging you: Keep this list going! It's not a bad thing to give people good news for a change.

Mtg w/Stake YW President
I’ve been asked to meet with the stake young women presidency where I live to talk about how to make church a better experience for LGBTQ+ youth, and share some things they ought to know to help them better understand.
These are my notes for the meeting.
Given our time limits, I had to be selective. I tried to think of what is some basic knowledge they should know, what is some practical advice they can implement, and then I wanted them to start thinking through scenarios.
————————————————————
We should talk about language.
Don't say "suffers from," "struggles with," or anything that suggests this is an addiction or sickness. Don’t ask, “are you sure?” Just because being straight & cisgender is most common doesn't make everything else "unnormal" or "unnatural". Don’t say we’ll be “fixed” in the resurrection because that implies we’re “broken.”
If someone comes out to you, they made themselves very vulnerable, they need love, validation and hope. Not talk about repentance or a reminder of the Church's anti-gay positions. There's a good chance they know the Church's teachings better than you do.
Let’s practice, what are some ways to respond if someone comes out to you?
—————————
How can we make things better, especially since we don't have power to change some of the problematic teachings or policies?
Every LGBT teen needs trusted adults in their lives who loves, supports and sustains them, no matter which path they choose.
It's hard for queer teens to see a path inside the church when taught all sources of joy & happiness are forbidden from them, and even basic questions about their place & purpose in The Plan seem unanswerable.
Queer youth look around church and don’t see themselves in the lessons (except possibly as the bad guys), they don’t see queer adults in their wards. They are not shown a future in church. Our stake is unusual in that I’m open that I’m gay and I’ve been in stake leadership almost 9 years, much of that time participating in youth conferences, stake youth activities, and even DJ of the dances.
—————————
If I had a chance to speak with an LGBTQ teen, I'd want them to know their Heavenly Parents love them very much. I'd encourage them to go home and pray, asking if their Heavenly Parents love them and hope they receive a strong answer. I'd also say that we don't know what the future holds, but they get to work out their future in collaboration with God.
They have a lot of hard questions and decisions to make, they don’t need to know the all the answers right now. Future decisions can wait for the future.
I'd remind them of the Spirit. When they pray about a choice, do they feel peace, content, settled, warm, calm, and things becoming clear in your mind? Or do they feel muddled, unsettled or unsure, or having trouble remaining focused on the idea? Those are ways the Spirit confirms or doesn’t confirm our choices. This will be useful for them as they work out their future.
Even if they decide they need a break, they can return with no judgement and come sit with us, we love them.
—————————
Stats are that probably 10%~15% of our youth are queer. If we have 200 active youth in our stake, that would be 20~30 of them are queer. Plus many more who have queer family or friends.
If you're planning an activity or lesson about dating or celestial marriage, at a minimum make sure it's known that's what the lesson or activity is about so that those who want to skip it can do so. Not all will have the choice to skip, so also put time into how you address any topic about queer people because you’re likely speaking to them face-to-face. Before and/or having the activity or lesson, say something like "I know there are people who won't get married, perhaps because they're gay or for other reasons. This is okay. I love you and the Lord has a plan for you."
—————————
In my opinion, the #1 job for an ally is to speak up if you hear something questionable or bigoted being said. You never know if there's someone in the room is queer and closeted, or who has friends/relatives who are queer. Speaking up lets them know you're a safe person.
If something homophobic or transphobic is said and no one speaks up to oppose it, that silence is seen as agreement. Sometimes as a gay member, I just don't have the energy to yet again stand alone against these types of statements and it is a relief for me to know someone else is willing to do some of the work, and if I choose to speak, I know I'm not alone.
—————————
We encourage all youth to follow the Law of Chastity, which considering none of them are married, you'd think would be the same for all of them. But is it?
If 2 boys are slow dancing together at the stake youth dance, are they going to be split up and told we don't encourage or allow that here?
There’s a lesbian teen signed up for girls camp. Do you let her sleep & room in the same cabin as other young women?
If you learn that some gay girls from the different wards have started taking each other out to eat and then to the park or to see a movie or other things that sound like a date, do you bring it to their bishop's attention?
If you are having a stake activity and it involves dating or marriage, and a youth tells you they’re uncomfortable or they don’t want to participate, what do you do?
—————————
I'm president of the Florida chapter of Affirmation. My VP is in Orlando is also certified to teach QPR, which is training on how to respond to someone who is suicidal. If there's interest, she is willing to teach people in our stake. I checked with her, the cost is $3 per person for training materials, and the classes shouldn't be more than 20 people in size. If you and possibly other ward or stake youth leaders would like to complete the QPR training, I can get this arranged.
—————————
I’ve known a number gay youth from our stake, and many more from across the country and world They are incredible. They have some amazing gifts. Even if they wind up taking a path out of the church, you can still love them and be a mentor to them. You can listen to their goals and dreams and help them see how to achieve those, encourage them in good aspirations. They should know someone at church loves and values them.

WIP teaser: president!Bucky x VP!Reader
Inauguration day brought many emotions to me and many, I’m certain, but one thing that popped into my head (specially after someone sent a an AO3 fic of BidenxKamala on discord) was just how incredible it would be to have another President James Buchanan, huh? Particularly if you’d get to shag him in the oval room...
I still don’t have any idea when I’ll be publishing this, so feel free to bug me about it! And if there’s anything else on my WIP list that you’d like to see a small teaser, today is the day to ask me for it!
Tumblr media
“Are you free?” I asked as I chanced a glance inside the oval room, only to find James looking down with a defeated look in his face, before glancing up and meeting my eyes. Upon meeting mine, a beautiful smile brightened his expression, and he excitedly waved me in.
“For you, always. Come here, darling. I need one of your hugs.” I opened a little smile of my own at his request, but more tentatively that I would have if I hadn’t seen just how tired he looked before he noticed it was me that wanted to talk to him.
I was worried about him. Even now, while I had his arms around my body, his beard tickling my neck, where he had hid his face, it didn’t seem like he was really here at all. And it felt like he thought the same, if the way he squeezed me was any indication of just how hard he was trying to be more present in the moment we were living in.
I tried to pull away, but his arms only tightened around my smaller body, and so I relented, letting him rely on me for as long as he needed to. It was the least I could do, not for the President of my nation, but for my best friend since college.
“Do you wanna talk about it?” I asked once he finally let me go, still keeping me close by holding my wrists delicately but with purpose.

Okay hi! Don’t mind me just jumping back onto my AU wagon with a Bodyguard!Jake fic inspired by The West Wing that absolutely nobody asked for but I couldn’t help but write ... 😎🚨 anyway it’s called let down your guard and you can find it on under the cut or on ao3!
let down your guard
chapter one: there’s so much that you just don’t see
There are a collection of nuclei in the temporal lobe of the brain known as the amygdala, that are best known for their role in sparking the fight or flight reaction in most people when met with emotions like fear.  Amy had read about it once, in a medical journal that she’d found at Rosa’s house (it’s presence on her coffee table, to this day, remains unexplained).  According to the article; once the amygdala sparks, your brain’s ability to retain memory increases, and in hindsight can make a patch of time feel as though it has stretched on forever.
As she stands in the world’s slowest elevator at Medstar Washington Hospital this evening, with her heart smashing against her ribcage and her toes tapping against the faded linoleum floor; Amy is certain that her amygdala has kicked into overdrive.
Panicking, her frantic mind keeps bouncing around between the urges to run like hell and stay until the bitter end, and it definitely isn’t like Amy because she’s never run away from a fight, but maybe there’s a part of her that already knows that what could happen next has the potential to change everything.
Her eyes remain glued to the squares inset along the top of the car, their white laminate long since turned a faded yellow; the number eleven scratched out almost to the point of non-existence.  She counts, a slow progression in her head that tries it’s very best at blocking out the thoughts racing around - the thoughts that keep telling her that she might have just lost the greatest thing to happen to her before it could ever really happen - and she can’t bear to look at her watch right now, but she’s positive that three minutes pass before the dim light behind the number four decides to amble it’s way towards five.
“Shots were fired in a store on 14th Street,” was the message she’d received, a mere half an hour ago (also, approximately the time she’d gotten on this damn elevator).  Boyle’s pale face, and a choked out number.  “Room 9554.”  The rest is muddled - she knows she started running; remembers hearing Terry call out to her departing figure, and she’s pretty sure her purse is somewhere back at the theatre lobby - but there was a force stronger than anything she can label that was pulling her to the hospital, and in that moment Amy had absolutely no intention of stopping.
The squares for six and seven remains mute yet eight comes to life, and the knots in her stomach begin to clench even tighter.  There’s a mantra that’s been playing in the back of her mind - from the very moment she’d stepped into the lobby and saw Charles make a beeline in her direction - and it takes over any other rational thought as finally level nine lights up, and the doors to her metallic prison slide open.  Please let him be okay.  Please let him be okay.
I don’t know what I’ll do, if Jake is not okay.
The sterility of the ward burns her nostrils and the clack of her heels sound vaguely like the rattling snare drums at the last inauguration, interrupting the otherwise calm environment of the floor as the numbered plaques beside each room begin to blur.  She dodges past nurses, doctors, and patients alike; and she can tell that they recognise her face (which means there’s a very good chance that this will be in the paper tomorrow), but it doesn’t matter that they know her, it doesn’t matter if the press find out about this - nothing else matters if he is not okay - and then finally, FINALLY, the numbers 9544 are before her.
Her fingers feel limp, but somehow she manages to grip the doorknob and turn - pushing her weight against the wood as though somehow it is the reason she hasn’t been able to get here earlier - and then suddenly the only sound Amy hears is the frenzied heaving of her own breath.
The room is empty, save for a bed in the middle - stripped clean and returned to it’s regular scrutiny from the harsh fluorescent buzzing above.  A clipboard cleared of any history hangs lax from its base, and on the very edge of the mattress sits a leather jacket; the same jacket that had once hung on the back of her apartment door … and the same jacket that Amy’s fingers had gripped the edge of a mere three hours before.
She feels her stomach drop to her feet, glued to position as her mind moves into overdrive, eyes trained solely on the scene before her as the realisation hits.
Jake was not okay.  And nothing was ever going to be the same again.
*
Five months earlier …
“On to other news.  We can confirm that there has been a surge in counterfeit notes across the nation, with several states reporting projections of significant economic loss.”
Amy pauses as the small crowd in front of her transform into a cacophony of sound, pen-clenched fingers and miniature recorders thrusting towards the ceiling in desperate attempts to get her attention and break their version of the story.  Blinking, she gives them her best I’m not done yet look, and after a few beats the reporters in front of her fall silent.
“President Holt has already been in discussion with the Secret Service, and are confident that the lead they are running on will come to fruition.”
From the back, Matthews from The Sun raises his hand, and Amy gives a quick nod.  “You said there were several states reporting loss.  Do we have an estimation?”
“Presently, the calculations are upwards of 3 million dollars, which - ” she emphasises, as the sea of hands raise once again, “is why there are teams working around the clock to stop the fraudulent currency from getting into circulation.  In the meantime, The White House has released an image of the forged notes,” nodding to her left, Amy waits for the screen beside her to light up, “and the differences are clearly distinguishable.”
The room falls quiet as the reporters all turn their attention to the image, and Amy watches as they all slowly turn back to her with varying expressions of confusion.  Suppressing a sigh, she uses the remote in her hand to zoom in on the imitation of the offical seal, the same one that is on every U.S. dollar bill, and undoubtedly in the pocket or purse of every single person here.  Not a day goes by that she doesn’t wish that Latin would finally wake up from its long nap (or it’s conquiescamus, as it were).  “Pluribus.  There are two Rs.”  She waits a beat, and continues in a dry tone.  “There should only be one.”
To her right, Ginns from The Examiner clears his throat; glancing up at Amy to ensure he has her attention before flipping open his notebook.  The Chicago-born columnist was unashamed in his opinion - as were his loyal followers - and his coverage of Holt’s campaign had leant towards unfavourable.  With a tight smile, Amy swallows the urge to scream at whatever was about to come next.  “Yeah, so - with regards to the Secret Service.  After his inauguration, President Holt elected a new head of the Presidential Detail, a .. ” pausing, Ginns refers to his notes, creasing his brow.   “Rosa Dye-az.”
Pushing her tongue against the back of her teeth, Amy wills herself not to interrupt and correct Ginns’ pronunciation, waiting for some kind of sign of potential redemption.  Instead, he leans forward and continues.
“Apart from what has already been published, her history and previous credentials appear to be incredibly difficult to correlate.  Given her obvious reluctance to divulge anything to the American public, and the fact that this role has never been held by a female prior to today, what reassurance can we the people have that Miss Dye-az was the best choice?”
Feeling her back teeth begin to grind together, Amy takes a measured breath before fixing Ginns with a steely gaze.  Questions such as these have been a common denominator since Holt was sworn in over a month ago, particularly due to choosing Olivia Crawford as his VP; and while expected, the overwhelmingly misogynistic responses were beginning to wear thin.
“I can assure you, Mr Ginns, that President Holt’s vetting process for all roles was incredibly thorough - and Ms Dee-az,”  she pauses, raising a singular brow, “remained incredibly co-operative throughout.  We cannot bow to the curiosities of the general public on every request for detail, or wed never stop.  After all, the public continues to let you write for one of D.C’s most prolific news journals without knowing the details of your Christmas Card list, and somehow the world continues to spin.”
Ginns’ responding eye roll is poorly concealed, and Amy’s fingernails begin to dig into the edge of her podium.  “Furthermore, I would suggest that despite Ms Diaz having a uterus, the bar set by her predecessors will continue to ascend.  One could even argue that the lack of … other certain parts of the human anatomy will only assist in keeping a clear head in the most intense of situations.”
The reporter shifts uncomfortably in his seat, blessedly silent in his rebuttal, and Amy directs the end of her statement towards the rest of the crowd.  “President Holt and his administration are aware that a small percentage of the public lack confidence in the roles he has filled.  Criticism is necessary, and welcome.  But unmerited accusations regarding a person’s ability based entirely on their sex is where he draws the line.”  Slamming the file in front of her closed, Amy takes a step back before leaning closer to the microphone, delivering her final line.  “That concludes the presidential briefing for today.  Thank you.”
Terry hovers by the doorway as Amy exits, his leather yoked suspenders proudly displaying the commemorative pin gifted to him upon being sworn in as the president’s Chief of Staff, and he cocks his head towards her as they move swiftly down the corridor towards Amy’s office.  “Interesting briefing you held there, Santiago.”
“You mis-pronounced psychotic, Ter-bear,” interjects Gina as she passes them both, head already bowed down to her cellphone before either can respond.
Already feeling defensive, Amy shakes her head quickly, raising one hand to gesture at the room she’d just departed.  “We’ve been fielding commentary like that since the early days of the campaign, Terry.  At some point, we just need to point out the baselessness of their remarks, and remind them that there simply isn’t a place for it in modern society.”
Raising his hands in surrender, Terry shrugs.  “Don’t get me wrong.  Terry hates closed minded attitudes.  As do the rest of the cabinet.  I just find it fascinating to watch how close our new Press Secretary came to literally biting a reporter’s head off.”
“Ugh.  I’m fairly certain it would just pop like a balloon.  Full of hot air and not much else.”
Nodding, Terry points in the direction of Amy’s office.  “You might be onto something there.  Heads up, though - I saw Diaz making a beeline to your office just as you were wrapping things up.”  He pauses, shoving his hands into his pockets while giving her the side-eye.  “Terry wishes you luck.”
Smiling at an intern as they hand her an updated schedule, Amy casts a quick glance down the hallway and grimaces.  “Well, at least she hasn’t gone straight to grinding her axe.”
“I didn’t see both hands, but let’s assume you’re right.”
Throwing Terry an exasperated glance, Amy bids him farewell before moving towards her office, deliberately taking on a confident stride as she squares her shoulders in preparation for confrontation.
With her jet black curly hair and the zero fucks aura surrounding her, most members of the team had learned on their own that Special Agent Rosa Diaz was not somebody to be trifled with.  Not meeting until the last couple of months of Holt’s campaign, Amy had spent the first few weeks largely being ignored by Diaz - until one afternoon, when a particularly vocal protester tried to pull Amy in for a debate, only to be met by Rosa’s steely glare and the unspoken promise of worse to come.  She’d muttered, on their way back to the car, that they needed to have each other backs; and over time their working relationship had grown into a something closer to friendship.
(A friend that occasionally intimidates you with their intensity, but a friend all the same.)
With her trademark leather jacket covering her like a second skin Rosa is easy to point out in the busy walkway, but it’s the two men standing with her that captures Amy’s attention as she draws near.  One was tall with a distinctive profile; the other slightly shorter, and sporting a hairstyle that looked like it could survive a hurricane.  Although the taller one wore shades, Amy could tell that both of them were casing their environment, taking in their surroundings with a stern exterior that gave away exactly who they were.
These men were Secret Service, and for some reason they were standing outside her office door.
Her curiosity overshadowing the possibility that she may need to eat a slice of humble pie, Amy thrusts the hand still holding the schedule towards the two men as she passes Rosa, giving them her best Suspicious Face.
“Who are those guys?”
“Good morning to you too, Santiago.”  Rosa’s dark eyes follow Amy’s path around to her desk, tilting her chin upwards after a beat.  “My uterus thanks you for it’s shout-out this morning.”
“Ugh, okay.”  Returning her planner to it’s designated top-left-corner position, Amy feels her shoulders drop as she throws an apologetic look at the woman in front of her.  “I know that wasn’t my best work.  But the guy was being a jerk, and I was 100% done with the conversation.”
“No, really.  It’s fine.”  Rosa’s voice takes on no other inflection to demonstrate her approval, but Amy learned a long time ago not to read into her monotone.  “My uterus is a bad-ass.  Definitely tries to punch me from the inside out at least once a month.”  She smirks, a sight familiar to only a select few, and raises one eyebrow.  “Somehow, I still manage to keep the President and all his flunkies alive.  It really is shocking.”
Without invitation, the mystery men have followed Amy into her office, hovering along the outskirts of the room while she checks her messages, listening with half an ear as Rosa continues to go into alarming detail on how she’d personally like to deal with reporters like Ginns.  It’s as the taller of the two reaches out to investigate an award propped up on her well-stocked shelf that Amy finally looks up, dropping the slips of paper to the desk and throwing Rosa an exasperated look.  “Seriously, who are these guys?  And why are they in my office?”
“Oh, right.  About that.  Amy, this is Special Agent Peralta,” Rosa pauses, thrusting her thumb towards the taller guard in shades, “and this guy is Special Agent Boyle.”  Clearing her throat, she fixes Amy with her typical Rosa’s Way Or The Highway look.  “They’re going to be your new security detail.”
A grinning Agent Peralta throws a tiny wave in Amy’s direction, and she lets out a petulant huff, planting her hands on the empty section of her desk.  “Rosa, we’ve talked about this.  I’m a visible target.  I go out there every other day and announce policies and updates and god knows what else.  It’s inevitable that I end up with a few snarky emails every now and then.  People need a face to complain to, and this guy’s obviously chosen me.”
“Sorry,” Rosa replies, in a tone that suggests that she’s not sorry at all.  “President’s orders.”
Damn it.  With her next refutation dying in her throat, Amy folds her arms over her chest, studying her friend’s expression carefully.  There was a good chance that Rosa was just saying it was presidential orders, knowing that Amy would be unable to resist any directive that came from her superior.  But there was equally enough chance that the request had come from higher up, and refusal of the service would most definitely land her in hot water.
In other words, Rosa had Amy exactly where she wanted her, and there was not a darn thing she could do about it.
“Just seems like a lot for a bunch of stupid emails,”  Amy mutters, dropping down into her seat, defeated.  With a furrowed brow, Agent Boyle looks over at Rosa; but before Amy can question it, Rosa perches herself along the edge of the couch.
“So, Peralta and Boyle will work on opposite shifts and shadow you on your day to day operations.  Additional detail has already been arranged for your home address, and all correspondence will now be cleared through us.”
“I’m also going to need the contact information for any recent or previous relationships you may have had, ma’am,” pipes up Peralta from Amy’s left, breaking out into another grin when she looks over at him.  “Gotta weed this creep out, and you’d be surprised how often they end up being much closer to home than expected."
Blinking, Amy turns back to Rosa, the extent of her security detail only now sinking in.  “A constant shadow and surveillance on my apartment?  Seriously, Rosa … this is all coming from Holt?  Can’t I just change my email address or something?”
A silence falls quickly over her office, and Amy makes special effort this time to take note of the not-so-secret looks the two agents gave each other.  A louder protest is bubbling up through her chest when Rosa stands, her sharply manicured fingers holding a document folder Amy hadn’t noticed until now, and walks towards her.
The heavy thud of Rosa’s booted footsteps come to a stop at the side of Amy’s desk and she places the file in front of her, leaning in slightly as the folder’s contents become clear.
Photographs.  Stacks of photographs, all of Amy, and all from various parts of her very busy week.  Her heart begins to climb its way up to the base of her throat as the images begin to blur, one shot after the other of an unaware woman as she lunches with friends, visits the gym, drives to her brother’s house and - oh god - even gets changed at home near what she’d always considered to be a relatively protective curtain.
Leaning in, Rosa’s voice drops to a whisper.  “The boys haven’t seen those last ones, but they know they exist.”  She straightens, returning to her regular volume.  “All of these were on a USB that was delivered to us from an unconfirmed address, and arrived early this morning.  Peralta and Boyle have been pulled in to oversee the operation, and I will monitor from afar.  The detail starts from now, and ends once this Mr Anonymous is behind bars.  Is everyone clear?”
Numb, Amy nods without really understanding, the cotton of her tailored blazer feeling inadequate underneath her fingernails as she pulls the two sides closer together.  She feels foolish for disregarding the warning signs for so long, confused as to how out of all people, she is the one who’s become a target; terrified because if these photographs are anything to go by, she is being hunted … for god only knows what.
A knot begins to churn in her stomach, and there’s a very good chance that she’s about to be sick.
“Excuse me, Ms Diaz?”  Ramirez, Terry’s secretary, pops his head around the doorframe, startling Amy out of her spiralling thoughts.  “I’m sorry to interrupt, but you’re needed in the oval office.”
“Alright, I’ve gotta go, the Powers That Be have spoken.”  Rosa mumbles, scooping up the photographs on Amy’s desk and holding onto the file with her vice-like grip.  Noticing the look on Amy’s face, she stops short of her exit from the room, tipping her head towards the two men as they hover by the bookshelf.  “Listen.  I’ve put two of my best men on this case.  Peralta especially, I’ve known since our days at the academy.  They’re not going to rest until we’ve caught the bad guy, and neither will I.  Got it?”
Amy gives her friend a tentative smile, taking her message to heart.  If there was anybody that could shut this mess down, it was Rosa ‘I could kick your ass with my pinky finger’ Diaz.
With one final glance towards her two agents, Rosa swivels on her heel, leaving Amy’s office in silence.  The sound of one of Amy’s favourite tchotchkes hits the floor, dropping out of Peralta’s fidgeting fingers, and he cringes.  “Yikes.  Sorry about that, it just looked like one that I -”
Jumping out from behind her desk, Amy snatches the item out of the agent’s hands, running the edge of her thumb along it’s familiar curves before carefully returning it to it’s original position.  “Please don’t break my belongings, Peralta.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“If I may, Ms Santiago … what Special Agent Diaz told you was correct.  Peralta and I are here to keep you out of harm’s way, and it’s only going to be a matter of time before we catch him in the act.”  Standing to her right, Amy finds herself surprised at the gentleness of Boyle’s tone, and she eyes him curiously before nodding.
Leaning his weight against one of the lower bookshelves, Peralta slides his sunglasses off, face turning slightly more somber, and Amy blinks in surprise.  “You have our word.”  His eyes were surprisingly warm, a kind of chocolatey brown that seemed to draw Amy in, and her arms fall away from their defensively crossed position across her chest.
“Alright.  Thank you.  This is just … a lot.”  Her stomach twists again, and even though this time it feels less like she’s about to be sick, Amy really doesn’t want to take any chances.  “If I leave this office, you two are going to follow me, aren’t you?”
“Just around the perimeters of the hallway, Ms Santiago.  And only Peralta - I’m going to stick around and see if I can trace where these emails are coming from.”
“Consider me your shadow, ma’am.”  Jake grins, and Amy feels an odd mixture of irritation and anticipation run through her.  “And, look.  I can already tell what you’re thinking.”  Pushing his weight off of the bookshelves, he gestures vaguely with his hands.  “You’re thinking this is going to be all longing glances and secret earpiece conversations … me carrying you in my arms as I race you away from the danger, you running out of planes at tarmacs to give me one last kiss goodbye … you know, all the standard bodyguard stuff.”
Rolling her eyes towards the ceiling, Amy feels a knot of tension leave her shoulders, but she’s not quite ready to laugh yet.  “Yes.  You’re right.  That’s exactly what I was thinking.”
“Knew it, nailed it.  Well I’m sorry to disappoint you ma’am, but this stuff is nothing like the movies.  It shouldn’t really be any more than a few weeks, just need to catch this weirdo out and let the law take care of the rest.”  He pauses, glancing over at Agent Boyle before continuing.  “Which … will be made all the more faster with your co-operation.  Including the details of people who may have had closer access to you than others.”
Sighing, Amy presses the tip of her index finger against the middle of her brow, a nervous tick that has long since become habit.  This guy really needed to stop calling her ma’am.  “Fine.  Teddy Wells was my last boyfriend, but we broke up several months ago.  I highly doubt that he’s the one you’re looking for.”
“We really need to look into all avenues, Ms. Santiago,”  Agent Boyle interjects, and for the first time Amy notices how the beige colour of his tie is almost a perfect match to his skin tone.
“Fine.”  Leaning down, she scribbles Teddy’s phone number onto a new post-it, thrusting it in Agent Peralta’s direction.  “See for yourself.  Better yet, invite him out for a drink.  He’s got some real interesting stories, especially about beer.  One could almost say, he’s got ‘the cheers for the beers’, you know?”
(She knows that she’s setting Peralta up for a trap, all too familiar with endless nights listening to Tedford ‘Thrills for the Pils’ Wells.  But there was much too much bravado seeping out of every pore of this guy, and he deserved to suffer - if only just a little.)
“Huh, a beer guy.   Noice.”
Amy stifles her grin, tucking her pen back into the pocket of her blazer as she heads towards the doorway, ignoring the echo of Peralta’s footsteps behind hers.  “Now if you’ll excuse me, gentlemen … I have a hundred or so meetings to attend.”
“Just one last thing, ma’am.”  Agent Peralta interjects, and Amy turns in time to watch him drop one shoulder in an obvious attempt at Dramatic Effect.
The edge of his mouth lifts into a smirk, and the ridiculous sunglasses that have inexplicably returned to his face despite the sunlight pouring in through the surrounding windows (she thinks, perhaps, entirely for the purpose of his next move) slide down his prominent nose.  “No matter what happens, you’re not allowed to fall in love with me.”
The urge to roll her eyes again is almost unbearable, but she is a professional if nothing else, and so Amy puts on her best smile and nods at the suited man in front of her.
“Won’t be a problem.”

Hey, I'm doing good too. Just normal amounts of stressful stuff right now. Just moved to a country I've never been to before but can't complain, things are not as hard as the last time I did this so. Thanks for asking! Yeah, I saw you posting about some pretty scary health issues before, I'm glad you came out of that alive and hope you're healthier now!
The nerve some people have! Haha I know I would be pissed if people were questioning my intelligence like that especially after a couple of drinks in haha. Though I do like taunting people when I play group games, I'll be like "don't need to try that hard guys, you're gonna lose anyway" just to mess with them or just call people sore losers if they accuse me of cheating haha (they're probably right on the accusations tho). People get real mad sometimes it's kinda funny. 😂
Omg literally laughed out loud reading this! Hahaha, how did you manage to fall over a road sign then end up in a ditch? lol omg hope you didn't get hurt too bad 😂 I was trying to downplay my drunken escapades but since you shared yours I should tell you my worst one:
I was at this summer street party at night and got drunk on something made out of tropical herbs and cachaça (which is about 48% alcohol), drank 3 and a half bottles of that like it was apple juice, made friends with a bunch of strangers in a bathroom queue (who tried to talk to me weeks later but I had no idea who they were), had to be held by my best friend while I peed (mostly missing the toilet), fell in the middle of the street and scraped my knee, threatened this boy who was helping me walk and told him not to try anything funny or I would beat him up, then dragged my friends to the beach and left them shortly after to go make out with my ex, came back with lipstick all over my mouth and chin and when my friends asked what I was doing I said I was just talking to my ex and they were like NO YOU WERE NOT, hahaha then I kissed all my girl friends on a dare and we danced under the full moon, then I told my best friend I had to puke so she took me to the ocean but I changed my mind and happened to step on a dead turtle on the way back and started crying bc of it, but last month my best friend told me it was a rock I had stepped on (I believed it was a dead turtle for 7 years!). Had the worst hangover of my life the next day. ✌️✨
Ah I'm happy you liked it! I've never listened to Six musical before but it sounds fun! I can see why you like it haha made me want to dance around my apartment 💃. And hey if liking musicals is your thing then it's great, I'm sure Hozier will understand if he's not your top artist of the year. 😋 Here's my "damie" Pinterest board if you or anyone else wants to check it out, totally recommend making one if you're a visual person like me!
https://pin.it/UcHVlkq
Oh I could talk about Dani and Jamie forever I think. I love the beast in the jungle speech too and it's so painful to watch, VP delivered that beautifully, but I have to admit I'm always a crying mess from episode 1 when older Jamie starts reciting that song about being sad while waiting for her lover to return, this show is fucking cruel I hate it and love it at the same time hahaha. Omg your mom 😂 but I mean it's truly an honor to be compared to someone like Dani, no? She's really great even if she needs a little help haha (don't we all).
Aaah you're amazing! Thank you so much, I'll read this pirate AU soon!
I used to draw a lot, really loved doing it when I was a kid as I said before, and all throughout adulthood too but I haven't done that in almost a year now bc I've got a bit of a case of burnout I guess, it just takes a lot of effort to do it when it shouldn't be like that at all. I used to do fanart too, for other fandoms. Even made one for Dani x Jamie but ended up not liking how it turned out haha. I've got a lot of respect for writers and fanfic writers also! Yall can make words make sense in really interesting and beautiful ways, build worlds so enthralling I can see them vividly in my head. Writing is such an incredibly fascinating skill to have! And I guess the most important thing is that we enjoy doing these things right? Even if we think we're not particularly good at it.
Anyway, have a lovely weekend! 👋✨
Good I'm glad you're doing great but sorry you're dealing with stressful stuff!! Hope living in a new country goes well for you I'm so jealous that you've lived in different countries I'd love to live somewhere else even if just for s few years!! Awwh thank you so much I definitely came out of it alive and am feeling so much better now thank you I mean I do some pretty ditzy things so when people say it to me it's pretty deserved sometimes, I'm secretly smart and people just don't expect it so I never mind too much haha I might have to start saying the things that you do and just taunting them over it I mean, I usually do win even when they make me answer different questions so I will definitely have to start saying things like that to them Haha I love that you're just like "yeah they're probably right in their accusations" I agree seeing how mad some people get over games and stuff is funny (it's me I'm people I hate loosing games depending on what it is and I am very competitive) So it was very dark and all we had for light was my roommates flashlight on her phone but while we were walking home a friend of ours that lived else where kept texting her to make sure we were still safe (my phone as dead at this point) so while she was texting him her flashlight was facing down and someone had moved this road sign to the footpath and it was on that sits on the floor so while I couldn't see it I walked into it and fell over it but while I feel I grabbed hold of it and flipped with it and fell in a ditch with it on top of me... I was fine and was just laid laughing while my friend looked down at me and in the most northern accent ever just said "get up you dickhead." and helped me off of the floor and then asked if I was okay... and I was so it was all good!! Haha 😂 I love this drunken story that sounds like one hell of a night and is a roller coaster from start to finish!! I'm sorry you thought you had stood on a dead turtle for 7 years though, someone really should've told you that it was just a rock!! But that sounds like my kind of night!! I love nights like that... stories that will last a life time... the only down side is the hangover... luckily I have only ever had one hang over in my life and it wasn't the morning after the road sign fiasco... I felt surprisingly good the morning after that haha 😂 It's such a good musical it's about Henry VIII wives and I just love everything to do with his wives and that musical is so much fun and actually gives a little insight to the lives the six Tudor queens had away from Henry and with him because at school we're mainly just taught about him which sucks!! I loved the Hozier song and am definitely gonna have to listen to more of his stuff!! I love musicals so much I mainly listen to musical soundtracks at the minute- usually, Legally Blonde and Six on repeat haha 😂 Ooo thank you I will definitely check out this Pinterest board thanks for sending it to me!! I could talk about them forever too... since watching Bly Manor my niece has been asking me so many questions about it and I am more than happy to talk to her about it haha!! The beast in the jungle speech just breaks my heart every time I relate to it so much and VP just delivers it so beautifully!! Oh yeah now I know at the beginning that it's older Jamie I am just a wreck the whole show is just so beautiful and heart breaking at the same time I LOVE IT!! Even though it makes me sob- I keep putting myself through it!! I mean, yeah I was happy that she said it Dani is great but it was the way she said it... my mum can be something else sometimes... she said she thought Dani was like me the first time she does the accent when she says "I've fallen quite in love with London" because I just randomly do accents a lot too but it was the way she was like "She needs help... but I like her she reminds me of you" I was just like... "Should I go get help?" I still don't know the answer to my question about if I need help or not but I mean I probably do need it You're welcome I really hope you like it!! It's a
great fic I love it!! Yeah I get that if stuff starts taking too much effort and burns you out you're not gonna wanna keep doing it so it's understandable that you stopped!! I think fan art is great and I really would love to be able to do it myself but I just don't have the skill it takes!! Awwh it's a shame you didn't like the Dani x Jamie one you did I would've loved to have seen it!! Honestly there are so many talented writers out there and when I read their fics I am just in awe of the worlds they have built and the stories they have created we are so blessed in this fandom to have so many amazing writers and so many amazing fics out there Oh yeah definitely its important to enjoy what you do!! I know I love writing and love writing fics for Dani and Jamie so I think I'll be doing it for a while even if I'm not great at it haha Awwh thank you very much I hope you have a great weekend too!! ☺️

KP & VP Parallels║
& Perpendiculars ⟂
I finally decided to make a meta about the parallels in the relationships between KP and VP. If there’s anything I’ve left out or that anyone would like to add, please jump in! I get in the weeds a little here (big shocker there), but this is my attempt to address some similarities and differences in these relationships. (I’m not addressing KimChay much here because it feels on a whole different planet to these other mafia dynamics.)
First Kisses
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can already visualize the bewildered looks. How, how, can these kisses compare? I’m going to break this down in as many ways as I can. I really wish I could make a Venn diagram on here, but alas, I will just have to make a list.
1) Kinn and Vegas - Anyone can see that Vegas and Kinn are not in the same position here for a lot of reasons. Vegas is a captor and a torturer. Though he has a tragic cause for his unhinged-ness, he’s still that: unhinged. Despite this, there are some interesting similarities between Kinn and Vegas. For one, both characters initiate their kisses. For another--and I really like this about them--both kisses are not sexually motivated. I can’t be the only one who thought we’d be getting very passionate hate-sex between KP before the show came out. But in all three relationships, the first kisses have been tender. Notice how I said kisses and not other things, because at least for one of these relationships, the initial interaction was the complete opposite of tender.
2) Porsche and Pete - There are some pretty major differences between Porsche and Pete’s situations here, but on a more basic level, I think they overlap. Porsche accepts Kinn's kiss, but he’s drunk enough that he doesn’t remember it the next morning. Pete is sober, but he’s badly wounded; for a while there, it even looks like he’s on death’s door. Both Porsche and Pete are (primarily) motivated to accept these kisses by forces outside of their own control. When Kinn kisses him, Porsche is living in a blissful, drunken haze. When Vegas kisses Pete, he’s too sickly, shocked, and confused to resist. **I also want to note that while he doesn’t push Vegas away, he doesn’t kiss back. He only lays there, shocked by the sudden tenderness (not unlike many of us, I imagine).
I don’t want to argue that there are no feelings behind these kisses, because for Porsche at least, it’s pretty clear that he feels a romantic pull to Kinn. But there is a level of susceptibility at play that’s impossible to overlook.
Sexual Advances
I have to hesitate on this one a bit, because torture and SA/dub-con are two very sensitive topics that I don’t want to compare; however, I do want to discuss how both KP and VP handle the sexual aspects of their respective relationships (w/as much of VP as we’ve seen so far). I’m sure there will be much to elaborate on in the future as VP becomes more fleshed out. I will go ahead and offer a ⚠️ TW ⚠️ here since I will mention some specifics about their situations.
~ Ep4 & Ep10 ~
I want to briefly point out that both Kinn and Vegas have made sexual advances on someone who was either unable or unwilling to consent. The VP storyline seems to take this a few steps further, as we see Vegas brutally torture Pete not once, but several times between Ep10 and 11. And on the topic of Vegas, no one has really mentioned it (at least, no one I’ve seen), but to me there’s quite a difference between inflicting physical pain on someone (standard torture) and giving them unwanted sexual touches. Vegas does both at the beginning of Ep11. No one can argue that the VP storyline is not incredibly toxic in general, but even in comparison to the KP storyline, it stands out as being particularly immoral.
Tumblr media
For the record, this is not me putting on a “moral police” helmet. I’m not condemning the show for this at all; rather, I’m condemning Vegas for it. It’s like what happened in Ep4 between Kinn and Porsche: apologies can be made, forgiveness can be given, but that doesn’t erase the fact that it happened. And in a mafia show, where we’re meant to feel conflicted about themes of morality, it fits even if it’s uncomfortable. In fact, that’s what makes it work. If we were supposed to feel comfortable during VegasPete’s torture scene, then I think I’d have a problem. But we know it’s wrong because we’re left feeling as caged and oppressed as Pete is.
When it comes to KP’s Ep4 scene, I think it’s easy to get wrapped up in its beautiful aesthetics. But I appreciate how the show flips the script in Ep5. We see Porsche in a state of distress over it, not unlike Pete with Vegas. Again, not trying to compare these two situations, but I think the show wants us to consider how both Pete and Porsche deal with the fallout of these experiences. Like I mentioned with Pete’s torture, if the show didn’t address their reactions to trauma, it would feel not only irresponsible, but dishonest. I’ll finish this section by posting a link to this post by @respectthepetty comparing some specific aspects of the Ep4 KP scene and VP in Ep11.
Tumblr media
That got pretty dark, so I think I’d better move onto a more enticing topic...
Chemistry
Ah, yes. Chemistry. Do I need to explain this one? The GIFs speak for themselves:
Tumblr media
(Bold of you to assume that I would choose any other GIF besides this bread product placement. Bread = chemistry, I don’t make the rules.)
Tumblr media
(No, I will never stop posting and reblogging GIFs of the Ep12 preview because I have, in fact, built a home inside of this exact moment and I will never ever leave.)
Freedom
Kinn and Porsche found home in each other. We know that already. What’s interesting is the emotional similarity between KP and VP, because Porsche offers Kinn the same basic thing that Pete offers Vegas: freedom. For Kinn, it’s freedom from his role and responsibilities--it’s freedom to live life the way he wants. For Vegas, it’s freedom from his father’s disappointment--the freedom of abandoning his father’s influence and refusing to feel the pain of his disapproval. They’re not so different in the greater scheme.
Here’s my question:
Will Ep12 be for VegasPete what Ep6 was for KinnPorsche?
I really hope so, because Ep6 was really something special.
--
I’d say that’s all for me, but I’m sure I’ll think of something else to drone on about soon enough. For more KP meta, look here. :)

Rufus Shinra Analysis in FFVII Remake (2020) vs FFVII (1997)
taken from my original thread on twitter here.
[MASSIVE REMAKE AND OG GAME SPOILERS, you have been warned]
From what we’ve seen in Final Fantasy VII Remake so far, Rufus (in my opinion) is 100% more interesting than he was in the original Final Fantasy VII. In the original game, Sephiroth/JENOVA infiltrates the Shinra building and murders everyone inside. Then, Sephiroth/JENOVA stabs President Shinra and leaves his body at his desk with Masamune sticking out of his back. Palmer, who had witnessed the entire thing, calls Rufus (who is in Junon) for backup. Rufus responds by boarding a helicopter to come assume command of the company in the wake of his father’s death.
Rufus arrives just as the protagonists discover President Shinra’s body, and they rush out to confront him. Rufus doesn’t know who they are, so he asks. Each of the gang gives a brief one-liner of their “occupations”, and Rufus responds with “what a crew” which is A REALLY GOOD SNARKY LINE I’M SAD ISN’T IN THE REMAKE. In Final Fantasy VII Remake, the part where the party reveals their ‘occupations’ is instead given to Heidegger, and only Aerith, Barret and Red XIII are present.
An interesting major divergence from the original game then happens in Remake. In the original, Rufus begins his inauguration speech:
That’s right. I’ll let you hear my new appointment speech. ...My old man tried to control the world with money. It seems to have been working. The population thought that Shinra would protect them. Work at Shinra, get your pay. If a terrorist attacks, the Shinra army will help you. It looks perfect on the outside. But, I do things differently. I’ll control the world with fear. It takes too much to do it like my old man. A little fear will control the minds of the common people. There’s no reason to waste money on them.
As Rufus begins by talking about how Shinra used to work, the player starts to think “Oh good, maybe things are about to change for the better. Maybe he’s a good guy!” WRONG.
Rufus then drops the bombshell that he has no intention of being ‘better’ than his father—in fact, he’s worse. While his father used money to rule, Rufus will instead rule with fear. I’m not sure why this speech was cut from the Remake, but my guess is that they’re going to keep it for a later instalment because it’s just a+ in terms of setting up just how cruel Rufus actually is.
In the original, Cloud then asks Barret to take Aerith and escape the building (present in Remake) because the revelation that Sephiroth is alive “is the true threat to the planet” (not present in Remake). when Rufus and Cloud are alone, Rufus asks, “why do you want to fight me?”
Cloud responds, “you seek the promised land and Sephiroth.” Rufus’ last line before the boss battle is “I see. I guess this means we won’t become friends.” THIS IS A REALLY INTERESTING LINE which is not in the Remake because OG!Rufus and Remake!Rufus are quite different.
In the original it is implied that Rufus was planning to team up with Cloud, or at least gain their support since they’re both going after Sephiroth. It’s only after Cloud refuses his offer that they fight, and the fight was more of a story fight than a true challenge.
HERE IS WHERE THE FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE REALLY DIFFERS RE: RUFUS. Remake gives us a short scene with the Turks thinking back on their actions regarding the Sector 7 pillar, before Tseng gets a phone call from Rufus and says, “the VP needs us.” The Turks then leave.
The first time Rufus is seen is when the AVALANCHE helicopter is shot down, and Reno asks, “you sure you want to do this personally, boss?” to which Rufus smirks. In the original, Rufus arrives at the Shinra HQ because he heard that his father had died. In the Remake, Rufus was already on his way to Midgar when his father dies. Why is this? An important clue comes from the Turk-centric game Before Crisis, as well as the actual boss battle vs Rufus himself.
Before Crisis reveals that Rufus had previously planned to assassinate his father with the help of AVALANCHE but was found out. This assassination attempt is confirmed to be canon within the Remake from one of Heidegger’s lines early in the Remake. President Shinra placed Rufus under house arrest, but still retained him as VP (even if in name only). While fighting Rufus in the Remake, he tosses two coins in the air and the camera gives us a closeup of them. The coins read “Shinra Inc.” and “A New Era”, among other things.
Players of the original will know that “A New Age” is how Rufus brands his version of Shinra, particularly seen on his banners during his parade in Junon. Remake!Rufus has already managed to have his new currency minted BEFORE HIS FATHER EVEN DIES. So, what does this mean?
It means that what’s likely to be the case in Remake is that Rufus called Tseng to come pick him up because he’s either staging another coup/planning to take control right there and then. He just happened to have weird timing and arrived at the same time as Sephiroth/JENOVA and the protagonists, and his father had just died (at the hands of Sephiroth/JENOVA).
Rufus in the original didn’t show any sadness about his father dying, but Remake!Rufus appears to have taken that one step further in that he was preparing for another attempt, and had already had his new currency minted in preparation for his success and ascension.
It’s interesting also to compare President Shinra and Rufus. President Shinra is very much tied into the corporate structure—he rules using his wealth, he’s very business minded, and his closest allies are his execs. Rufus on the other hand prefers to use fear and black ops to get his way, which is shown by how he has a much stronger relationship with the Turks. The Remake showcases this internal conflict nicely with a brief scene near the end.
In this scene, Heidegger slips up and calls him “Mister Vice President”, which Rufus ignores. Tseng then walks in and says, “Mister President”, and Rufus replies, “that’s right.” Tseng smirks at Heidegger as they leave. This shows how Heidegger (and the other exec’s) control is being usurped by the Turks. I’m interested to see how the Shinra power struggles are going to be further explored in the Remake, because it’s one of my favourite parts of the whole game.
With regards to the actual boss battle itself, it’s very interesting how much stronger they’ve made Rufus in Remake. the original boss battle was very easy and was more of a story fight than a true fight. Rufus in the Remake is one of the hardest bosses because he just fucking counters EVERYTHING you do. he’s DESIGNED to be irritating as shit to the player, because he has a single attack that staggers him instantly, but the game doesn’t tell you what it is. Furthermore, the way Rufus fights is incredibly flashy—spins and twirls, shooting coins, etc. it’s all a dance to him. It’s very strongly implied that he must have been trained by the Turks, because he’s still a regular human, but he’s on a comparable level to Reno and Rude, if not even stronger.
In the original, Rufus fights Cloud because Cloud refuses to let him leave, Cloud having recognized him as a threat. In the Remake, Rufus HIMSELF chooses to fight Cloud. He willingly gets out of his helicopter to confront cloud BECAUSE HE WANTS TO. Reno even points out that Rufus doesn’t have to do it personally, but Rufus craves a fight with cloud. Rufus in the Remake fights cloud for sport and takes great pleasure in doing it as well.
In the Remake he comes off as a highly dangerous opponent who is both smart AND a capable fighter, giving Cloud a run for his money, while in the original he was pretty much just trust fund kid with shotgun and dog.
Remake!Rufus and Dark Nation/Darkstar combo off each other incessantly, implying that they’ve been fighting together for a very long time. Rufus also CONSISTENTLY taunts you throughout the entire fight, while Cloud (and the player) are getting really annoyed at him.
All of these elements set Rufus (and by extension, New Age!Shinra) up to be way stronger and more dangerous opponents than they were in the original game, where after the beginning Midgar portion they were pretty much just joke opponents vs the real threat, Sephiroth.
Another extra thought: Why can Rufus seemingly see the whispers?
The whispers are said in the Remake to be drawn to people who attempt to alter destiny’s course and ensure that they do not. Rufus seems to be able to see them, but Tseng cannot, and is confused by it. I’m assuming what this means is that Rufus’ actions have already defied fate in some way. Nothing of what he did on-screen really changed the original game’s timeline, so I think this means that he has done something off-screen that we the player hasn’t seen yet, but had timeline changing effects. Another idea is that in the original game Rufus and Shinra just “follow” sephiroth in the same way cloud and co. do. If the Remake is giving Rufus/Shinra more agency, as well as Cloud and co. themselves, it’s not hard to imagine that now Rufus himself can possibly pursue new timelines/events, rather than just following after Sephiroth. In the original, you have parties of people just following “Sephiroth” to the northern crater for the Reunion, but now all bets are off. Rufus also “dies” in the original and Advent Children retconned it, and I’m wondering if this means Rufus is also defying his fate to “die” on top of Shinra HQ near the endgame.
I'm REALLY interested in this re-imagining of Rufus and Shinra, and i can't wait to see more of them in remake. THANK YOU FOR READING ALL THESE MUSINGS ON MY FAVOURITE CHARACTER IN FFVII.

Thank you for the excitement and love! Since exactly one (1) of you asked and I am an only child who assumes everyone is interested in my life, here’s the goods on my new gig!
Partner reached out in early June, right as I was headed to Cleveland about an opening in her department. Said I’d be perfect, would I be willing to take a call. Sure, why not, never hurts. Ended up having two excellent conversations (one with a woman who is slightly senior but not my manager, one with the VP of Marketing who is my/our manager) and then hopped a plane to Cleveland the next morning feeling kind of excited but conflicted since I had just been promoted and wasn’t unhappy, exactly.
As you may remember, Boss was fired while I was in Cleveland and I found out when I returned. I reached out to this new joint and said, “Yes, I’d like to meet if you’re still interested” and had a day-long onsite with almost the entire team. This was toward the end of June, thanks to various vacations, conferences, etc. that made scheduling a little tricky. Luckily I was busy at my then-current job keeping people calm in the wake of Boss’ exit. A reference check was made and Boss, bless him, gave me a glowing recommendation - as did my other two contacts.
On July 3rd, the VP called me with a verbal offer, which I tentatively accepted pending the paperwork. Late that afternoon my (former) CEO called to tell me New Dad had been hired and would start the following Monday. My official offer letter arrived that Tuesday, and I gave notice to New Dad the next day in our first 1:1. Ah, poor New Dad. He was incredibly gracious and eventually counter-offered (which was tempting based on the role and responsibilities he laid out) but they couldn’t get close to my new salary (New Dad’s response when I gave him the number so he could try to match or beat it: “Oh shit! That’s a great fuckin’ offer!”). We agreed that it’s a shame we didn’t get to work together longer and he told me not to lose touch. I think he’s going to do some really cool stuff over there, although he is fighting some battles.
My last day was July 24th and I started here on the 29th. It was bittersweet - I miss Baby SDR and Demand Gen! - but it’s a good move for me. This isn’t a startup and leadership is experienced and inspires confidence. There’s some opportunity for international travel, although I am the primary for US events, conferences, and tradeshows. We have a more robust team and resources and I adore the woman I initially interviewed with and sit next to. I like that I’m working at a company that’s in the business of saving lives.
My commute is 2.5 miles and yeah the serious pay bump I got is going to mean a lot for us. Not “buy a house in San Jose” because LOLLLL4EVER but like...beef up those retirement accounts and maybe look into buying outside of here when we do retire or get sick of the Bay Area? Sounds fake but weirder shit has happened.
Partner, for her part, seems to have mellowed and is doing well in a place with more structure and defined roles and responsibilities. We’re on the same Marketing team but report to different people and our jobs don’t overlap (intersect, yes, but I’m not responsible for her fuck-ups which is GREAT) but we sit near each other and get coffee and have our old silly inside jokes. I like the team and the vibe is warm but get-shit-done. Ngl: there’s some pretty good looking dudes walking around here too and that certainly helps shake up the routine. I have crushes on three of the men on my own team so that’s neat.
I need to get new nicknames for everyone as stories and personalities emerge but Partner will remain Partner just because.

“Born within five minutes of each other, alike as two peas in a pod, they have a connection beyond words.”
■ ABOUT. ■
name: Mila Torres age: forty-four occupation: Devils Secretary gender: cis-female pronouns: she/her sexuality: utp
■ HISTORY. ■
Mila and her brother Antonio had always been together at the hip, this wasn’t surprising Considering they were twins. Mila and her brother grew up around very old money from their paternal side of the family. Though Mila’s mother came from a very down to earth upbringing and always wanted to do good for the world. Her mother’s plan initially had been to have a family of four, though after giving birth to the twins, her body physically couldn’t handle it. Her parents thought about their options. They toyed between adoption, or surrogacy, though her mother instead realized there were many kids and teenagers who needed love. From that decided the married couple purchased a very large house, with plenty of bedrooms in order to foster as many kids as their money could allow. Living in a house with many people, was a very interesting experience. Mila’s mother carried out a great balance between disciplined and loving. When any of the kids were out of line, the house was large enough to spread chores around for days. Housework and yardwork were the two forms of discipline growing up. It’s the reason why Mila hates gardening to this day.
Growing up in a house with that many kids, most with troubled pasts, she’d seen many things a child shouldn’t see. She walked in to see her foster siblings taking drugs, more times than she can count. Some images in that house were truly terrifying to a kid, though others were incredible. One teenager who offered pleasant and unpleasant memories was Sofia Gomez. Sofia entered their house when she was thirteen. She, Mila and her brother really hit it off, became the best of friends pretty quickly. For three years, Mila felt like her parents had found her another sister, they would share clothes, learn how to drive, do silly acts of rebellion, share secrets, most things two sisters would do. To this day she considers those years to be some of the best years in her life. It all ended too quickly when one morning, Sofia and all of her belongings were gone. At that time, it wasn’t easy to find people once they’d disappeared from your life, despite her efforts, Sofia was gone.
Years later, her parents passed away, and they left the large house in their name. Mila wanted to continue what her mother build, she wanted to be the head of a household for foster kids. She wanted to be that stability she knows they need. Her brother didn’t have the same view. Since they possessed the bank cards, she only had control of half the money. Her brother was careless and she’s confident her parents wouldn’t be proud of how they spend their money. Due to her brother's irresponsibility, the two had a falling out and they were apart for many years. During that time, Mila used her parent's money to get a degree in finance, then continued to work in her field while slowly getting the right certificates to offer her house to foster kids. When she finally achieved that dream, it was much harder than her mother made it look to be. She also realized this wasn’t something that could be accomplished on one payroll. She’d begun to really struggle and in a moment of desperation, she began stealing from her client's accounts. Slowly and surely over years, she stole close to millions of dollars, before getting caught and sent to prison.
Thankfully she was able to get a good lawyer and an even better deal in court. She went to prison for 4 years and gave up everything she owned, including the house she grew up in, leaving her with nothing. Her first time in prison was hard, she had to live with the failure she’d caused. She failed everyone around her, the foster kids, her brother and worse of all she failed her mother. Though after those four years there was one thing that changed her, that was her nephew Jamie Gomez. When Sofia entered back into her life, showing obvious signs of drug withdrawal with a six-year-old holding her hand. Mila looked at the boy and felt as if the lord was giving her one more chance to do the right thing. Though there something about him looked familiar. She was able to notice it more and more over the next few weeks, while Sofia stayed at hers to detox and get clean. As she looked at the boy, she remembered a very vivid and unpleasant memory just before she left, walking into her and her brother having sex. She realized soon after that this boy was her nephew. When Sofia sobered up, Mila asked who the father was, Sofia told her it was a random person. Though something in her gut didn’t believe it, the more she pushed, the more Sofia pushed back, and just like years before. Mila woke up without any hint that the little boy and his mother had even stayed with her for the last week.
■ WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON? ■
Mila was first introduced to the Quantum of Devils through her brother, during that time they were apart, he’d got himself into some trouble and they somehow had helped him. She didn’t know what it is they had done, though, since their time apart, he has shown more loyalty for the gang than he had for her when their parents died. She initially didn’t want to be involved, though her brother made it seem as if she didn’t have a choice. He’d always been so poor at managing anything and when he found himself getting into trouble, she was the first person he called. Mila always knew that whenever her brother started something she will be called on to fix whatever situation he got himself into. This time, the stakes were much higher since she knew not to get in trouble with the gangs, instead, she was able to use her previous embezzlement skills to forge what she needed to make it look like nothing was wrong. After fixing his problem, he begged her to stay on, and become a member. While it wasn’t something she wanted to do, she didn’t have any income, and she was sick of working at the diner. She was too good to work in a restaurant, even she knew that. So she did, she introduced herself and worked her way in and years later she’s now become the Secretary. At first, she wasn’t sure about committing to the gang, though the Quantum of Devils definitely proved themselves to her. They weren’t the outlaw's people mistook them for, she realized this club, was like her second family, similar to her house of foster children when she was a kid.
■ KEEP THIS AWAY FROM YOUR ENEMIES ■
It’s been ten years since Jamie entered her life and at the time she knew she should try to find out who his father is, though requesting a DNA test wasn’t as advanced as it was now. Recently, she’d found his research history regarding 23 & Me and she knew she needed to act fast. The motherly instinct in her wanted to confirm or deny her thoughts before he was to find out on his own. It’s for that reason, she ordered a DNA kit from an independent company and had Jamie’s hair tested against her brother Antonio. When the results came in, she’d been incredibly nervous. She hadn’t told a soul what she’d been up to, and knew that whatever the results were, it would still change Jamie’s life forever. As she saw the words, “Match” written at the top of the page, she wasn’t entirely shocked, though now she felt as though the whole world had been on her shoulders.
■ RELATIONSHIPS. ■
■ Margot Yang: Since joining the Quantum of Devils, she and Margot have sparked an incredible friendship. Partly it was due to their similar age, though really she saw Margot as an unbelievably strong woman whom she respected very much.
■ Garett Miller: Due to her brothers lack of business skills, she slipped into the role of drug sales and has worked closely with Garrett for a few months. With their recent move to New York City, he’s asked her to step up as VP and she hasn’t decided if she’ll accept.
Jamie Gomez: For years Mila regretted pushing Sofia for more answers or not taking action herself and submitting a DNA test. She tried to search for Sofia though she was impossible to find, ten years went by before she got a phone call from a teenage boy, he was sixteen and claimed that his mother died. Mila finally had her opportunity to do the right thing and take Jamie in as her own.
