what was it like as a gaylor before 2016?

What an appropriate question on the 10 year anniversary of the kaylor public launch at the VSFS 2013 :) As it's quite a subjective question, prepare for my gaylor/kaylor origin story 😉

I've been a more committed Taylor fan since Red came out in 2012, but because I'm in the UK a lot of the public media buzz about her has passed me by (except for the headlines about her and Harry, that was definitely a big story over here). In spring 2013 the article about her and Dianna exploded on the internet and, despite it obviously being retracted, it perked my ears up because 1. I was also a big glee fan at the time, and 2. it seemed to offer an explanation to why I found her music so relatable having just had my heart broken by a girl and all her genderless breakup songs fit that situation so well. So, I did a bit of research and quickly realised that, if she was in fact with Dianna, it would have been at the same time that she was supposedly dating Harry, as well as that Kennedy guy. No public acknowledgement of any queerness (like ever) so it was very clear to me from the start that, if she is dating women, she is doing it very much in secret. Not a great inspiration for fairly newly out me (23 at the time), so I filed that information and moved on with just her music. Didn't really think about it again until over a year later when a guy in a club decided to bully me and my then gf with the sentence 'Are you a real couple or just bffs like Taylor Swift and that model chick?' Yep, my kaylor origin story is a straight man harassing me in a nightclub. What are the odds, right? 🤭

So, because that remark somehow stuck with me (and I had no idea who that ' model chick' even was) I googled it, expecting to find something similar to the Dianna situation and my jaw hit the floor when I got pages and pages of photos of Taylor and Karlie walking the streets of NYC holding hands, smiling at each other with the biggest heart eyes. It genuinely changed my life. It may sound totally stupid and out of proportion, given that they didn't acknowledge it as a relationship (which I'm aware was doing no favours to lesbian visibility), but it did something to me to see the girl whose music I'd danced to in my bedroom when I was 16 so happily in love with another girl. I'd never seen that sort of love between two women, either in fiction or in real life, and it felt like she'd reached across the miles dividing us to tell me that it's possible, and that if she could find it (even in hiding), I could, too. And somehow it didn't matter to me what they were calling it, I could see what it was and it was everything to me. But I only had a few months to enjoy it before kissgate ruined it and of course the tabloids printed words like 'affair' and ‘scandal' and by March the next year we had Calvin Harris, then Hiddleswift, and then Joe. But at the same time, we got 1989 and rep with some of the gayest music ever written. And I found a great community of fellow queer people on here in those years that seemed to enjoy watching them and seeing their lives in the lyrics as much as I did. I’ve dipped in and out of the online space for years, lurking when there were more kind people around and disappearing when the hate got worse. It was fun to watch it all unfold in real time with people, I’m impressed that people still become new kaylors these days when there is no real time interaction and the hate from the general fanbase towards Karlie is still high since 2018. I don’t think I would be a gaylor today if I hadn’t witnessed their love in front of everybody’s eyes in that year, that really made me resilient to setbacks because I’m just so irretrievably in love with their love story. I’ve seen how Taylor lashes out when she’s cornered and scared (like she did after kiss gate) and sometimes we’re the collateral damage of that. And as much as that sucks it just shows that she’s incredibly protective of her little bubble of happiness and the more you poke the bear the more savage she’ll be in her retaliation. Do I wish she didn’t throw her most loyal supporters off a cliff every time she needs a straight excuse? Of course! But have I also hurt people I care about to protect my loved ones? Yes. So I can’t really judge. I can just take a walk when it gets too much, and wait for the soft shit to pull me back in.

So, to summarise, being a gaylor has always (and will always) have highs and lows, the public narrative is never for us, only the music is. But that's ok with me, I've learned to tune the noise out and enjoy the music, reminding myself that those songs were inspired by one of the greatest love stories I've ever accidently stumbled upon.

I always interpreted evermore as a song about depression, I never linked it to Kaylor, can you tell me your view on this song?

dang i had a conversation about this with someone several months ago but i can’t find it. ill give you the abridged version. firstly, i think it can be about both! because the situation got depressing there for a hot minute!!

taylor said in an interview with zane lowe for apple music that she had written the song when the election was upon us and she didn't know what was going to happen. evermore the album was released in december 2020, which suggests that she wrote it pretty close to the release date, but also had time to reflect on what she knew to be true before releasing it— that trump wouldn’t win reelection. there’s a billboard article where she talks about the moment she learned biden won and i think it meshes really well with how evermore concludes thematically and emotionally.

when we think about the impact that trump being elected had on kaylor back in 2016–throwing a birthday party for lorde only days before the 2016 general election and wearing the vsfs angel wing ring in public for the first time, and that picture of them both kissing lorde on the cheek, going from that to at once enacting a love blackout and never being seen regularly in public again (the next time being rep tour 2018)— and on top of that, them going out of their way to separate themselves in the media via the creation of a “feud” during 2017 (swish swish, sushigate, etcetera) which pitted karlie with katy perry and kanye and cast her as someone for swifties to hate, guilty by association, we can imagine the weight and sadness of this chapter in their story. this is the start of the pain. this choice (i consider it a choice), to take the battle underground, sunk kaylor little by little into the world of the improbable for any casual observer. and it also put somewhat of a hex on karlie indefinitely, and for as brave of a soldier as she is, its an awful long while to be put in jail for something you didn’t do.

with these details as the background, i consider evermore to be a song chiefly about 2019 onward, though you might also position some of the date markers in the song within a sort of 2016/2017 focused timeframe. personally though i tend to think that 2019 events work just as well and operate under similar themes. for example, “hey november i’ve been down since july” could be in reference to the period of time where it became slowly more clear that the 2016 election results might not be a non-starter. or, it could reference the day after the masters sale (which was end of june 2019) and the theorized “failed coming out” that many expected her to do at the new york city pride parade that week. this followed by november, the conclusion of editing Miss Americana which would be released the following month (“motion capture put me in a bad light”) or alternatively november 2020, the point at which she is writing this song. there’s also an lsk theory that taylor and karlie were broken up from july to november 2019 but im not so versed in that so i’ll just keep it to a mention.

in any case, “hey december” can circle back to miss americana being released, not as a coming out documentary but as a “political coming out” documentary. hence the “can’t remember what i used to fight for.”

or it could be both, in a way. for example rewinding the tape but all it does is pause on the very moment all was lost could be both the rewinding of the miss americana documentary released in 2019, and/or perhaps conceptually the idea of the 2016 election night footage being rewound by everyone in the disbelief that occured the night that “all was lost”

because all was lost that night, in a way, no?

i tend to see justin vernon’s part as being a depiction of karlie after kaylor was exiled to a new level post the masters sale. i don’t mean this to say they were broken up. it’s just that they had to do a factory reset on a lot of the progress that had been made up until that point, and they would not be seen together (in order to accomplish some vigilante shit, is what i think anyway). back to justin vernon’s lines. it just reminded me deeply of all the hate karlie got that summer. and indeed, all the hate she had accrued until then. whether summer or winter, this feuding arc had put karlie in a position that i would argue was growing unbearable and incessant. “out on waves im being tossed, is there a line that i could just go cross?” referring to the latest wave of said hate. in this scenario, “can’t not think of all the cost and the things that would be lost oh can’t we just get a pause to be certain we’ll be tall again?” seems like karlie calling out to taylor, amidst the haze and confusion of the masters sale, think about everything that we would be giving up if you don’t come out right now. (think of me.). and then upon that line leading nowhere saying hey let’s pause before we hurt each other, to be certain we will make it through. here “tall again” reminds me of paper rings “standing here so tall”

so what of the ending? well, as a time marker i would once again refer to when the song was released, post-2020 election, where taylor saw that trump had lost and they would have a path forward. …covid-19 was yet to happen of course, and with that i think there were life priority shifts, but i just see evermore as a song that covers taylor and karlie seeing a light at the end of the tunnel that had been their love lockdown to love blackout to exile story. its a song that encompasses so much hope and i just really really really love it as a kaylor song because of the specificity with which you can tie it to their story, specifically a more contemporary chapter, the likes of which we hadn’t had too many songs depicting up until that point (basically just peace/hoax/the lakes).

so yeah that’s why it’s a kaylor song to me 🫶

My thing is... what summer do swifties think Taylor was talking about in Cruel Summer? It makes no zero sense for her last few boyfriends, right?

Dated Calvin publically while she was on tour in the summer of 2015 (no sneaking) after getting together in the spring that year.

She then drops Calvin at the start of summer to date Tom Hiddleston. Again, it is a VERY publically and jet setting across the world (no sneaking)

She then drips Tom in the summer of 2016 to start date Joe in the fall. She kept him like a vendetta for 6 years (private-no sneaking in garden gates)

She tours in 2018 all summer, then in 2019, Lover the album drops.

So... again, what summer was Taylor MOST likely available to "sneak in garden gates", that she had to put a song about it on Lover, her very first owened album.

2014 was that summer!

Lover the album was New York, Sunshine, West Village, butterflies, daisies, and summertime. Plus, Lover the single was released 13 days after KK's birthday, and the remix was released on 11/13—the VSFS official meeting anniversary.

Cruel Summer is for Kaylor and Kaylor only—no matter how much HETERO washed shit Taylor throws at us.

I really hope the rumor is true. It's Era's Tour season. She can do what she wants! We need this video!

Hi!

Ok, this is a question that I tend to avoid answering because I understand how this question can make people unconfortable.

I would not answer this on Twitter since I feel it is much more "public" and can more easily end up in the "wrong hands" than on Tumblr.

I think I might have some things that might help you understand the thought process of LSKs, or at the very least mine.

I'm gonna talk about theories around Levi here, if this makes you unconfortable, just scroll (I've hidden the rest for a reason).

And before you think that sending me hate anon would be "funny" or make me run away... I am a very loud Kaylor on Twitter... it's really not my first rodeo ;-), do with that what you will.

Here's my thought process about all of this:

There's A LOT of closeted artists for A LOT of different reasons.

Sadly, most of those reasons turn around how homophobic the entertainment industry is and how it's difficult for an artist/actor etc. to stay mainstream while being out.

So what's the solution for them if they want to have a family but also want/have to stay closeted?

I don't think it's fair or even possible to expect everyone of them to not have a family if they want to stay in the closet. In fact it's inhumane and not possible.

Sadly this means that some of them will have to do some things similar to this, and raise a family in secret.

Words can't describe how much I hate the entertainment industry for all that they make those artists endure...

2. That What I Will Say Episode

They will hate that I use this as an exemple since they are loudly anti-LSK but this is too good of an exemple to not use.

In one episode of What I Will Say they invite a person who dated a closeted singer (not Taylor) and this person explains how bearding works in hollywood.

They say something of the sort : About 70% of the people in the entertainement industry are gay so if they would all come out, it would be impossible to fire them all and still have artists...

Wich kind of help understand my first point better.

They also explain how the industry can "force" someone to have a Lavender Marriage or else they won't have contracts anywhere.

And they say that, although VERY RARE, it can even go as far as forcing a Lavender Baby.

NOW. I REALLY DON'T THINK that this is what is happening here. But this goes to show how inhumanely stars are treated in the industry.

3. I really don't believe Joshlie is real.

There's so much that points to Josh being gay and in a relationship with Mickey.

This also explains a lot about Karlie and Josh's timeline.

I mean everybody agrees that at least until 2016 Karlie and Taylor were together.

Since Lover, most agrees that they were still together in 2019 and broke up.

This all implies that Karlie would have cheated on Josh with Taylor from 2014 to 2016 and most likely 2019. (Karlie and Josh are supposed to be together since 2012)

And Josh would have help Karlie???... (looking at you Burma post)

And then what? Karlie would have chosen Josh who she had cheated on all those years to have a family?

This also means, that Karlie did not date Toni before Taylor.

But Toni was with Karlie up till the 2013 VSFS where she was her date to the after party...

Do you see how all of this does not make sense?

Also. Taylor confirms the relationship between Mickey and Josh in I Bet You Think About Me MV:

I really do believe that they are not really married for many reasons, but to name a few:

no proofs of a marriage certificate

Compagnies still send cards to Karlie with "miss" instead of "mrs".

Taylor did hint at a fake wedding in The Man MV, and Don't Take The Money in 2018.

Karlie's dad liked those posts on Instagram in 2019, do with those what you will:

Disclaimer: I don't think Josh is the devil reincarnate. I don't like that he's a Kushner and that his family had anything to do with Taylor's Master Heist or that he sought Karlie for bearding when she was 19 and him 27 (although this also protected Karlie in an industry that can be really "not safe" for girls, especially single ones).

But you won't see me throw shade his way and call him Jerk, I really don't fell like I know enough about the situation, their dynamic, their relation etc. to do that.

Also, in the last couple of years, they really do seem to get along and Karlie does seem confortable when she does stunts with him. I do appreciate this.

Taylor hints at a baby in Peace:

In a song where she talks about being insecure because she can't offer a normal life to the person who decides to share it with her.

It's also in The Lakes on Folklore that she says that her relationship was able to flourish outside of the puclic eye: "A red rose grew up, out of ice frozen ground, with no one around to tweet it".

Also in Anti-Hero: "I have this dream my daughter in law kills me for the money"

How would she have a daughter in law if she doesn't have a son?

5. Taylor did leave a lot of "easter eggs" around the time Karlie was trying to get pregnant, was pregnant and after she gave birth.

Wich sealed the deal for me.

In Sweet Nothing, this song really sounds like a lullaby.

It lasts 3:08 minutes (Karlie's birthday)

6. Then you have timings that are odly convenient to deflect attention from Karlie and the baby.

Like Taylor releasing It's Time To Go and Right Where You Left Me in January 2021 wich made most people think that either there was really a falling out/betrayal (Swifties) or a break up (Gaylors).

Conveniently, Karlie gave birth two monts after.

Also, the timing of announcing the birth right when Taylor was on stage at the 2021 Grammy's.

Making it impossible to be her baby right?

And then, 2 days after the Met Gala this year where we learned about Karlie's pregnancy, news of Taylor's new PR relationship with Matty Healy drops and everyone talks about this.

Especially Gaylors.

7. The baby shower this week was sooooo loud.

Like the loudest thing they have ever done.

Then, Karlie does the baby shower that is daisy themed, with 13 daisies on the cake...

So yes, I really do think that those two babies might be Karlie's and Taylor's.

As far as Josh's implication, no idea, he might be the donor, he might not. But that is not what is important here.

Disclaimer: I don't buy the theory of the child actor or the robot or anything lol.

Disclaimer 2: although I don't think the wedding is real. This does not mean that I think Karlie did not convert to Judaism. If you look at everything she said about this, this was clearly something important to her and independent of her wedding.

I think they both have one beautiful son and another baby on the way and they very unfortunatly have to hide this beautiful reality from the world.

At least for now.
