Why Elain giving back TT is significant [ACOSF & CC Spoilers]

In ACOFAS, we learn what happened after Elain used TT to stab (or kill) Hybern.

“You honestly think he’d ever give up Truth-Teller?” “He gave it to Elain,” Mor said, admiring a moonstone necklace in the counter’s glass case. “She gave it back,” I amended, failing to block out the image of the black blade piercing through the King of Hybern’s throat. But Elain had given it back—had pressed it into Azriel’s hands after the battle, just as he had pressed it into hers before. And then walked away without looking back. Mor hummed to herself.”

I have seen many people using this argument against Elain having a connection to TT—when, in fact, it means the opposite, especially considering what we learn in both ACOSF and (most importantly) HOSAB.

But first, let’s recap what we know about Elain’s (alleged) connection to TT:

Azriel had never before let another person touch that knife—until Elain.

Elain, who had never used a weapon, accepted it, despite having rejected other options before (remember, Cassian had offered her a weapon prior to her accepting TT from Azriel).

Elain actually used it��and by using it, answered Feyre’s plea for help, thus saving Nesta and Cassian’s life.

When using TT, Elain stepped out of a shadow, something we have only ever seen Azriel do.

And by using TT, Elain ultimately changed the course of the war.

What is also interesting is that we see this scene through Feyre’s eyes—and the Cauldron’s, so we get a glimpse of how the Cauldron feels about Elain.

Now, at the end of HOSAB, we learn that TT is connected to the Starsword.

And what do we know about the Starsword?

That it actually answers to two people, not one. It recognizes and chooses both Ruhn and Bryce.

Yet Cormac glowered at the Starsword peeking over Ruhn’s broad shoulder. “Rumor has it that the sword sings for my bride, too.”

Ruhn seemed to force himself to look at Bryce as he said, “It’s true.” So he’d seen her glare, then. “The sword’s as much yours as it is mine.”

The Starsword deemed Ruhn worthy, and recognized Bryce as kin.

“That your son, not you, retrieved the Starsword from the Cave of Princes in Avallen’s dark heart. That your son, not you, stood among the long-dead Starborn Princes asleep in their sarcophagi and was deemed worthy to pull the sword from its sheath.”

Her sword—it was her sword, and Ruhn’s. And with that light in her veins, with the star that slumbered inside her heart, the Starsword had recognized her not as a royal, worthy Fae, but as kin. Kin to those who had forged it so long ago. Like called to like.

So we now know that TT can also have two owners: one deemed worthy, and one it recognizes as kin.

Because what else do we learn about these weapons?

“That sword belongs to Theia’s female heir. Not the male offspring who corrupted her line.”

These weapons are passed down the female line, not the male.

I am still surprised when I see readers connecting Bryce to Azriel through TT, when we know from HOSAB that the weapons belong to the female descendants of Theia, NOT the male.

Also interesting to note: Bryce does not want the Starsword—does not want to claim it.

“I don’t need a fancy sword to add to it.” “But I do?” “Honestly? I think you don’t know how special you are, Ruhn.” His blue eyes flickered. “Thanks.” “I mean it.” She grabbed his hand, and light flared from her chest. “The sword came to you first for a reason.”

The sword came to Ruhn first—just as TT came to Azriel.

And even more interesting: the scene where Bryce uses the sword.

The Starsword sang with light, her power flowing into it. Activating it. And nothing had ever felt so right, so easy, as plunging the blade into the bony chest of the wounded Reaper. It arced, bellowing, black blood spurting from its withered lips. The others screamed then. So loud she thought the sewer might come down, so loud she nearly dropped the blade to cover her ears.

Which mirrors the scene where Elain uses TT:

But as a black blade broke through the king’s throat, spraying blood, I realized someone else had. Elain stepped out of a shadow behind him, and rammed Truth-Teller to the hilt through the back of the king’s neck as she snarled in his ear, “Don’t you touch my sister.”

The Cauldron purred in Elain’s presence as the King of Hybern slumped to his knees, clawing at the knife jutting through his throat. Elain backed away a step. Choking, blood dribbling from his lips, the king gaped at Nesta.

Unlike with Bryce, however, we do not have Elain’s POV of the events leading up to this scene, or how she felt during it, so we do not know if the knife responded to her in the same way.

But it does make you wonder: did it feel as right to her, as it did to Bryce? Given how afraid she had been up until that point—vomiting from terror—she appeared as an avenging angel in this scene, almost as if she’s done this before, almost as if it felt right.

Also similar is the return of the sword and knife to the men who found the weapons first, who were deemed worthy to possess them. Despite Bryce using the sword, it returns to Ruhn, and stays with him until he asks her to take it with her.

Similarly, Elain returns TT to Azriel after using it. Will TT find its way back to her? Will Azriel, like Ruhn, offer it to Elain again?

Remember: when Azriel picks up the sword in HOSAB, it does not react to him. We do not see a change in him when he touches it, nor do we see any change in the sword when near the other IC members.

The male’s face didn’t soften as he picked up the sheathed Starsword, then gestured for her to step closer.

Elain is, of course, absent, and I am 99.99% sure that Sarah hinted at her being somewhere nearby (bread and roses) for a reason. Could this be it? Will the sword react to her the same way it reacts to Bryce? The same way the Cauldron reacts in Elain’s presence?

Could Elain activate the Starsword? Did she activate TT the way Bryce did, the way Nesta infused other swords with her power?

“Yes,” Amren said. “Only the Great Powers could do that—Gwydion was given its powers when the High Priestess Oleanna dipped it into the Cauldron during its crafting.” Cassian’s blood chilled, waves rippling over his skin. “One touch from Nesta’s magic while the blade was still hot …” “And the blade was infused with it.”

I still think that Nesta losing most of her powers at the end of ACOSF was done on purpose, to make Elain take center stage in future events. At this point, she is the only being alive who has Cauldron-given powers, similar to the Starsword and TT.

“You stole from the Cauldron,” I said to Nesta, who seemed ready to jump between all of us and Elain. “But what if the Cauldron gave something to Elain?”

And what does Bryce need at the end of HOSAB?

And she had no way to get home. Unless Aidas or Apollion knew how to use the Horn. Had magic that could charge it.

Bryce ends up in Prythian because she is looking for someone who can help. Sarah mentioned during one of her interviews that her ending up in Prythian while looking for help is not a coincidence—help is in Prythian.

With Nesta’s Cauldron-stolen powers mostly gone, Elain is the only one who can both use the Horn and the only one who has the power to charge it.

“Once, the High Fae were more elemental, more given to reading the stars and crafting masterpieces of art and jewelry and weaponry. Their gifts were rawer, more connected to nature, and they could imbue objects with that power.”

“When Briallyn was Made, it likely removed from her the Dread Trove’s glamour, for lack of a better term. Recognized her as kin. Where she might have glanced over a mention of the items before and never thought twice, now it stuck. Or perhaps called to her, presented itself in a dream.” All of them, all at once, looked at Nesta. “You,” Amren said quietly, “are the same. So is Elain.”

PANDORA LABELS is a fictional company based in South Korea formed in 2010 to house K-Pop artists. It was originally formed as SUNRISE ENTERTAINMENT.

In 2015, SUNRISE ENTERTAINMENT debuted its first group, DREAM STATE, a seven membered girl group that did not do as well as the company hoped. With little attention paid to the girl group in favor of other groups, SUNRISE ENTERTAINMENT tried again soon after with BOMBSHELL!, a female duo who did significantly better and helped bring money to the company.

In 2018, STARBORN CREATIVE would acquire SUNRISE ENTERTAINMENT as its second and last subsidiary label and rebrand it to PANDORA LABELS, disbanding BOMBSHELL! and moving many of their groups over to the label. Many protested this plan, stating that the trainees who were already at PANDORA LABELS would potentially be kicked out to make room for the groups. This turned out to be half true, with fifteen trainees leaving the company soon after the rebranding. However, STARBORN CREATIVE did not stop, continuing to move their groups to the label and eventually debuting PANDORA LABELS' first group, FLEURSHINE, in 2021.

HOUSE OF SCORPIO is a fictional subsidiary label under STARBORN CREATIVE.

In 2017, it was announced that STARBORN CREATIVE would open its first subsidiary label, HOUSE OF SCORPIO, to serve as a music production company. It would also serve as an acting agency for the actors under STARBORN CREATIVE. HOUSE OF SCORPIO was received with open arms and warm welcomes by many fans, and many producers and actors who were once under the main company were moved to HOUSE OF SCORPIO.

Hello one and all and welcome to my wip wednesday post.

I've been jumping back and forth between a few wips but the one I am sharing below has been calling to me more than the others recently.

“Fuck you.” She hissed as she faced him, she noticed how he was leaning in to steal her lips. For her amusement she slipped from him with the smoothness of a cat and continued into the open doorway. She heard him curse under his breath at her impulsiveness before she was 3 steps ahead. His irritation fueled her in a special way. There was something about it that was addictive. Ghoul steps were soft and barely made a patter as she slinked into the room. The occupants had yet to notice her presence even as they talked amongst themselves aware of enemies on their ship and the fact their ship was in disrepair.

Ghoul decided to use the surprise to her advantage before Delgado ruined it. She braced herself before using her left foot to launch herself from a seat and into the air. Her body vulnerable, flying towards the enemy. She landed on the closest of the four and chaos ensued. There were sounds of shots being fired, grunts, shouts, and weak threats as she swung the body over her as she hit the floor with them. The man above her was heavier than she anticipated but she did not let that stop her from using them as a human shield. One of her hands freed and unsheathed a blade to slit his throat before she threw it at the man that was furthest from her. There was a rip at her green tasseled hair as all four were focused on her. Once it seemed they stopped firing shots she used her legs to propel the dying body off from her and sending it away to trip up whoever was in its path.

Ghoul’s side burned and her thigh felt a shatter of pain as one of the men managed a few blows. She elicited a growl and as she pushed herself up the one who ripped at her hair had his arm around her throat before she stood. The constriction around her throat made her insides burn with fury and lack of oxygen. Her hands grabbed for the man’s arm that was around her throat and with precise movement she used his weight to flip him forward. The strain in her own arms stinging silently. He groaned and before the other could come after her again there was a loud bang and the man slunk to the ground, dead. Delgado was now in the room firing shots at those who still moved. Ghoul had successfully distracted them, so they did not expect the Crimson Fleet leader to appear with vengeance.

Everyone was subdued within minutes and even though she was still on the ground her breathing was heavy, feeling the weight of the lack of oxygen on the ship. Ghoul’s head felt light and dizzy, and it took her longer than she cared to realign herself. During this small moment her eyes were closed and once they opened a gloved hand was reaching out towards her. Her eyes stared at the hand and then up into the pirate’s syrup eyes before deciding to give in to his offer. She gripped it with might and as he lifted her up, she felt the tenderness in the pressure he returned. Though they had successfully taken out the last of the passengers, Delgado’s nostrils were flaring.

STARFIELD SPOILERS BEWARE

I have been thinking of NOTHING ELSE!! AHHH

There's so much potential here.

Sam being so head over heels for our Starborn captain but they keep pulling away until he finally understands. And then he does everything he can to help them find a way back to their universe because all he wants is for them to be happy--even if that means he isn't and he'll lose them. He sacrifices for them, stays by their side-- quietly loving them, wishing and praying that he is somehow enough for them to stay.

And then, at the end, when our Starborn Captain is about to jump again (in that little endgame overview area that shows all the things they did in this universe) they see how Sam has been there for them at every turn, the love and devotion he has for them, and will continue to have for them, even after they leave. They see the potential life they have with him and Cora in this universe and it's happy and fulfilling. They can grow old together.

Our Starborn Captain may have lost their previous Sam, but has grown to love this one too, with all his differences. They are grieving, yes, and they will always miss their original Sam and universe, but that shouldn't stop them from being happy. Now they face the choice to continue on, to keep searching, or have a chance at being content.

This idea plagues me day and night.

hey felas!! real ones know im a sucker for worldbuilding, so here’s the entirety of my star lore! feel free to ask questions to help me expand the lore, and be warned. this is a VERY very long post. if you want, save it for later!

__What are Stars?__

Stars are celestial beings that have existed since the dawn of time, aiding in shaping the world that is now known today. Most notable for granting wishes, immense power or prophecy, they've certainly gotten their influence across worlds. They glitter in the nightsky, lighting up what used to be a simple void, and even come down to defend or create things of their own. Our most notable heroes so far have been Rosalina, Geno, Starlow, Twink and the Star Spirits.

Although "Stars" is a pretty general term for the celestials, there are different types in their own right. The most important being Wish Stars, Star Sprites and Lumas.

__Wish Stars__

Wish Stars are first born in.. well, Starborn Valley, starting off as Starkids. They're raised and protected by a Shaman and Nijins until they're old enough to be sent to Star Haven, where they'll begin to discover their destiny. Most are made into Wishmakers- the ones who approve which wishes come true at Star Road, and then send them down to Star Hill.

However, some wish to live a life of glory, and a bit more stoic than others. Those Stars are trained to be Star Warriors, a process that takes thousands of years. If you've heard Geno saying he's been training all his life, he's not lying.

__Star Warriors?__

Star Warriors protect the Wishmakers and, really, any Stars in need. Traditional Star Swords are welded by Star Sprites, given to graduates once their training is finished. Apprentinces that have potential are put through a final test, which if they pass, continue their training to be able to head down to the surface. They're trained by older Stars how to possess inanimate objects, make use of weapons that are more commonly used at the surface, and most importantly; common.

..Unfortunately for Geno, the Star Road shattered before he could get to the *speaking* part of his lessons. Luckily, his doll translates his Starspeak for him, so he has no trouble with that.

__Star Sprites__

Unlike Wish Stars, Star Sprites are a bit more rarer than the three. They're much more solid proofed and are usually able to head down to the surface on their own time without the danger of getting stuck; great for messaging systems.

They have a better control of their magic as well, able to seal others away (now a more frowned upon practice) for safety. Notable instances are Cobalt Star and Astreor.

The only difference was that Cobalt Star was a trained Star Warrior, though Astreor was almost out of Star Haven. The elder Star Sprites gained a slightly dislikable reputation because of these decisions, all we can hope is that the younger are able to repair it.

There’s even a subspecies of Star Sprites called Sparkle Sprites! They are much more conditioned to the surface, and even have their own spells. They linger around Theaters that are actually Star Temples in disguise, which makes it easier for one to repair.

__Lumas__

The most common of the three, they're a bit in the middle of being able to go to the surface on their own. Most have the mentality of a child, making it hard for them to be able to process dangerous situations. Usually a Star Warrior is sent to protect them if a Luma does decide to go waltz around.

A Luma getting older is a tedious process. Thousands of years have to go by for a Luma to rival at least a 15 year old's comprehension. Polari was the first Luma, and next to her in growing age is Lubba.

__Star Rockets and Launch Stars?__

Star Rockets and Launch Stars are.. um.. *dead* Stars, to say the least. I know, I know. Using a corpse as a way of transportation is preeettyy gross, but most are made from loose stardust, compacted with celestial energy to make a *boost* through the zero gravity of space, where it's easy to float around aimlessly. Thanks Uncle Chuck, your ashes will go to good use.

__Star Bunnies?__

Star Bunnies are basically the scraps of excessive celestial magic, bunched up together with a bit of light to make these cute little guys! Adorable.

Now that all the basic stuff is out of the way, let's get into the nitty gritty.

__Star Spirits__

The Star Spirits are a group of seven powerful stars, known for their excelling strength in their specific powers. Consisting of Eldstar, Mamar, Skolar, Muskular, Misstar, Klevar and Kalmar; the Star Spirits are led by Eldstar, who is, as predicted, the eldest and first Star Spirit.

Mamar is known for her motherly qualities, Skolar has knowledge of magic long gone, Misstar takes great indulgence in her culture, Klevar is the youngest of the seven and still in his training, and Kalmar acts as a bodyguard of sorts, though has great battle knowledge.

During the ascension of becoming a Star Spirit, there was an argument between the Stars on who would gain the title "Star Spirit of Strength"- Muskular or Geno. The Star Road shattered before they could come to a conclusion, and Geno gave the title to Muskular.

__Millennium Stars__

Millennium Stars are a subspecies of Wish Stars, though incredibly rare, only one being born every thousand years. They are engulfed in a pure white and are incredibly unstable until they can harden up a shell, though unfortunately they usually fade before then.

The birth of a Millennium Star, although short, brings a new age above the stars and down below. However, there is one Millennium Star that *did* survive the process, became a Star Warrior, and was sent down to the surface.

__Is there any way to undo a sealed Star?__

The spell for it is practically lost to time, even for the Stars. However, Skolar might be able to pick it out.. if you ask nicely.

__Ztar vs Dark Star__

Age old question: whats the difference?

Ztars are basically the opposite of Stars (usually Wish Stars), emitting a dark aura and magic compared to a Stars' celestial and light. Ztars are a bit of a mystery though, as they're only born on the surface.

Dark Stars are just Stars who got the bad end of the stick. Unfortunately seen as a bad omen since birth, most are sent down to Starborn Valley to get special treatment for their dark stain and for them to never be discovered. Though one seemed to slip the Shamans' watchful eye, travelling out to the Mushroom Kingdom to slumber under the castle instead.

Elder Star Sprites were sent down to make sure the Dark Star wouldn't cause a ruckus, and sealed it under the same castle it hid under. This one, of course, was Astreor.

Sometimes, Dark Stars are born alongside Millennium Stars, acting as a shadow of the pure light being. They're usually refered to as twins, though they don't really get much time together.

__Star Bits__

Star Bits are similar to Star Bunnies in a way; packed up Star magic to create a neat little snack! Star Bits are used as currency and food, and theres clear varieties for them both. Lucky for you, they're both edible!

Currency based Star Bits taste like Sour Patch Kids. While the food based ones taste like rock candy.

__Nonsentient Stars?__

Stars like Super Stars, Power Stars and.. really just any used as an item (ie Shine Sprites, Star Points, Star Coins, Star Block.. etc) are more like a physical wish. A wish for invincibilty, more strength or speed.. these little guys usually help for an extra boost in your adventure. If it doesn't jingle angrily when you grab it, then it's not sentient.

__A higher authority..__

In hierarchy terms, Rosalina rules over the entire cosmos; this includes Stars (obviously). In a way, Rosalina is their mother, and they're all related in a way. In second are the Star Spirits, Elder Star Sprites, Shamans and (sometimes) Star Warriors. Polari acts as a supervisor to the council, sending the agreed-upon news to Rosalina. If the situation becomes serious, Rosalina herself is asked to join the council, though the Elders are beginning to trust their own intuition more..

The Shamans are a gateway of what happens in the surface to the older Stars who can't go down without trouble.

__How come Geno is alone in his ranking?__

Geno has the role of protecting the Star Road and it's inhabitants. Obviously other Star Warriors take his role when he's busy in the surface, but Geno so far has the most experience in possession and weapon use.

Unless he had time beforehand to train a class down in the surface, any special missions he's sent on has to be done by himself.

__Getting stuck in the surface?__

Oh yeah, it can happen. It takes a lot of energy to go down to the surface *and* back up. Leaving possessed items on the surface helps with the process, so it doesn't feel like you're lugging 10 tons behind you.

However.. sometimes it excerts so much that Stars plummet back down to the surface, and never make it back up. This is most suceptible to Star Kids and it's very dangerous for one to head down during their stay in Star Haven. Unless aided by a blessing, most that go down *stay* down.

__The shattering of Star Road was like a massacre.__

Those who were in the middle of Star Road during Exor’s crashing down were immediately pulverized. Geno was lucky to escape with his life. It was traumatic for all of Star Haven, sprays of stardust misted about. The Star Spirits, Lubba and Polari knew what happened that day. Geno can’t bare to talk about it.

__Stars don’t last forever.__

Yeah, sad thought, but it’s true. Either sucked dry of their celestial power, too weak to continue on, SHATTERED, or simply burning out like a dying flame. Luckily, the natural way takes millennia. There’s a higher chance of Stars dying on the surface than up in space, making more enforcement for only trained Stars to head down.

Star Warriors or Stars doing an important job in the surface are often held in ceremonies when they fade. Example A, a monument held for Cobalt Star in Star Haven.

__Stars are incredibly hard to heal.__

Celestial beings that have the ability to open portals into literally other timelines or universes obviously do not do well when injured. It takes a lot of magic, patience and skill to heal up even just a cut on a Star. Please, treat your local astronomers with care.

__Usually, Stars can detect if another is nearby. (for now, context is on the surface)__

__You can actually pull a Star out of a possession with force.__

Though, you’d have to have the a power *equal* or, preferably, more powerful than the Star you’re trying to pull out. They’re literal celestials and can pack a punch, though know it is extremely painful to get pulled out forcefully. Dear villains, if you wanna make it happen, just snatch a Star to beat the Star. Easy.

__Star-Specific Places on the surface.__

Ahem.. Star Hill, Starborn Valley, Crystal Palace, Star Way, and.. Star Citadel?

Star Hill and Starborn Valley are both places where Stars (most commonly Wish Stars) are born. The Crystal Palace was once a place of prayer to the Stars, a temple kept clean and filled with precious jewels to please the celestials. That was.. until the religion was lost to time. Now, it's more of a vacation home for the Star Spirits.

..The Star Citadel is just a rumor. I mean, *REALLY*, if you believe in it so much, why don't you go look for it?

__Star Worship__

As the most common form of religious practice in the Mushroom Kingdom, the Star Worship boasts the largest pantheon of any mythology in the world. The main focus of this religion lies on the seven star spirits, whom are prayed to, or rather wished upon.

They reside in Star Haven, where they decide whether the wish is selfish or not: If deemed not selfish, the Star Spirits will send the approved wish, alongside a graduated Wish Star from Starborn Valley, to Star Road. Here the two parts are merged into a Granted Wish, which is sent back to the Mushroom Kingdom and the wish is fulfilled.

Granted Wishes are powerful things, and even after they have fulfilled their wish, some power remains in the star shape. The power of used wishes can be used in various ways, but the most common way is personal invincibility or overall enhancements of one’s own power, or even for it to be used as fuel for machines. The power exerted by Stars can be troubling for some folks, and thus might behave differently in the presence of them (See Wiggler In SM64 – Make Wiggler Squirm).

To star worshippers, Star Hill is an extremely important place, as it is believed that wishes made there are bound to become true. In the past, this was also true for the Crystal Palace, but that shrine as since long fallen into disrepair.

They also believe that the highest honour the soul might achieve post-death is joining the stars in the heavens. However, only pure souls can arise to the heavens. Those weighed down by the sins committed during their life cannot ascend and are forces to roam the land as ghosts.

While priests exist throughout the land, the most notable religious faction of Star Worship is the monk like Shamans, who live in secluded societies where they connect with and read the stars. It is a great honor to become a Shaman, but once the decision has been taken, there is no stepping out of it. You are a Shaman for life.

__As long as a Star has the proper training or age, they’re able to possess inanimate objects!__

So far, a doll, plush and robot model is the prime example of what Stars are capable of. But in reality, they could possess anything that isn’t.. well, alive. Most Star Warriors train to the day that they might need to possess something, but Geno has the most experience. A younger Starkid can’t possess things either, so it’s dangerous for one to fall to the surface.

The Shadow Stars surpass this rule, since they’re hybrids of dark energy and a Star.

__Siblings?__

All Stars are technically siblings. A Star can have "parents" and couples, but they often brush away their relations. Please don't look too deep into this. It gets dark fast.

It's common to greet a Star as a sibling, plus just as in mutural respect. They're used to it. You get used to it too. Have fun. Be gay. Do crimes.

__Stars aren’t meant to feel extreme emotions.__

Thus, why Geno finds the feeling of sickness, anxiety or excitement a bit strange. Also why extreme emotions hit him so hard once he unlocks them.

__It’s pretty normal for Stars- especially Star Warriors- to teach their offspring powerful magic spells that can maybe maybe not be used for the better, and training of legendary weapons.__

What do you mean you aren’t supposed to let a Shaman teach your kids discipline? You had the same tradition. Wielding weapons 50X your size, casting spells that can rip holes in reality, walking through literal portals to different dimensions and universes.. well, that’s all part of the Star Childhood Experience™️!

__The Star Flute__

The Star Flute is.. well, a flute made by the Stars to detect if there’s something with celestial magic or a magical stain nearby, by playing a specific tune and getting an echo back.

The flute only works on the surface, and can detect hidden stars as well. The flute is guarded at Starborn Valley and only used in a rescue mission of sorts.. though of course the chance of a villain trying to sniff out a Star could burst through and snatch it themselves.

__The Observatory automatically translates Starspeak into a visitor's native language!__

So technically, Mario would be hearing the Lumas talk in Italian, and Mephiles in a godly tongue. Though, for the conversation Geno had with Mecha, would it be English-Common or a series of beeps and boops? Hmm..

__Star Speak, Star.. Slang?__

Here’s some Star-Specific words for you!

- “I wish..” NO. ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Stars have practically forbidden wishing for something. That right is reserved for the surface dwellers- and anyway, any wish made by a Star never gets granted. It’s usually by mistake one gets made.

(note, they use “hope” as an alternative!!)

- Faded, Shattered

Faded and shattered both have the same connotation: death. Faded is a more peaceful version of it, and shattered usually means they were murdered (commonly a Star Warrior).

- Brother, Sister, Sibling

In a way, all Stars are siblings, though they exclusively use the terms to show mutual respect or affection. Think of it as their way of saying “I see you.”.

__All of Smithy’s major weapons are.. Stars?!__

It’s true. Smithy himself ravaged through Starborn Valley and snatched poor Starkids one by one, most notably.. um.. well, Exor, Bowyer, Mack and Yaridovich. It’s almost disgraceful that the Stars didn’t report the names of the children gone missing..

They were all drained of their celestial magic, leaving no trace of a star as pupils- so nobody would know. In the search for a fuel source, Exor drained from Smithy’s dimension, becoming a gateway for it and in the process a Dark Star. Bowyer skittered around a current, giving him a lightning element. Mack was slammed directly next to the smelter, giving him a fire element.

..It’s unsure what element Yaridovich is. But one thing is clear; if you look closely in his eyes.. there’s a small twinkle deep inside the hollow metal. Yaridovich was the only one not fully drained.

__Star Ascension__

How, you may ask, can a non-celestial mortal become.. celestial?

It’s usually done by a Star (specific species not required) and after recent death, basically returning the soul to their body as a new being, now engulfed in celestial energy. Ascension Stars are not considered true Stars.

I’m not an elriel, but I strongly disagree w your post suggesting that Elain isn’t tied to any ACOTAR and CC connections (and thus won’t be featured in HOFAS). I’m also a lil confused as to how being a Valkyrie, or having connections to Ramiel, indicates that a character will have a part to play in HOFAS.

But as for Elain, there is substantial evidence to suggest that she is a mystic. In SJM’s old Pinterest board, there was a plethora of imagery that tied Elain to Sleeping Beauty - the mystics ‘travel’ to different worlds via sleep and dreaming. There was even an image in SJM’s Pinterest board of a girl with her eyes closed, but you could see a galaxy with different planets whirling underneath her eyelids - an image that SJM labelled as Elain.

Additionally, there are three sister peaks in Prythian; the mountain that Amrantha ruled from (UTM), Ramiel, and the Prison Island mountain. Feyre’s story featured UTM, Nesta’s story featured Ramiel… which leaves the third sister mountain - the Prison Island mountain - to Elain. As I assume you’re already aware, the Prison Island is the Dusk Court - an area that hosts the most pivotal connection between ACOTAR and CC (and the broader multiverse). It’s also the area that most strongly connects to Bryce, considering that she is the heir to the Starborn fae, and Queen Theia’s direct descendant (Bryce’s scent is even of dusk!)

Elain is also Cauldron-made. She too is connected to the Dread Trove (and ACOSF hinted that Elain is more than willing to be involved in this narrative). This is significant, as the Horn on Bryce’s back is heavily theorised to be the fourth Dread Trove item.

Although nothing is a guarantee (especially knowing SJM!), I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss Elain’s importance to the story. Given that SJM has said multiple times that she has plans for Elain’s book… I’d assume that SJM intends on tying Elain to the upcoming multiverse in some way - perhaps more than any other Archeron sister! :)

I've said in a few posts that I don't think Elain will feature, so I'm not sure which one you are referring to. I suspect it is this one, since it's been going around? It was written over a year ago and there is some context for it - namely the post that was linked within it. That might answer some of your questions. Either way, I'm definitely not quick to dismiss Elain's role. I've put way more thought into it than I should have, considering I'm not even a CC stan haha.

Sorry my response got quite long, it's just that I don't think I've articulated a lot of this before!

Your third paragraph answers your question about Carynthian/Valkyries/Ramiel! Because that mountain is probably going to be important at some point; this post that I had linked within the other also talked specifically about why the Illyrians are important, as well as Ramiel. The Blood Rite is a Rite to get to the top of Ramiel and touch the stone. There seems to be some connection between Illyrians, Ramiel, the daglan/Asteri, and the Blood Rite, perhaps Enalius? I don't think I have a full post about Ramiel and the Illyrians post-hosab. I did write this one before hosab came out, and I should probably update it. I might have somewhere, but I can't remember. But basically I absolutely agree with that third paragraph, and that's why I think it's important that certain characters have made it to the top and touched the stone. There is something there, and the characters who already have a connection to Ramiel seem the most likely to continue being connected. The Blood Rite/being Carynthian is just one way that some of them are connected.

Also, fwiw, I think that it's important that Bryce learned this information just before going to Prythian. There is a difference between what we, the readers, know, and what the individual characters know. That's going to bring me to a point about Elain being a seer in a minute. But before I get there, Byrce learned a lot of this information about the land of dusk, about the Asteri experiments, about them creating what we presume are the Illyrians before the Illyrians rebelled, she learned about the Starborn fae coming from Prythian. All of that was basically dumped in her lap before she ended up in the land in question, which to me, makes all of that information incredibly important in what's to come.

I don't think we know that the prison is where the land of dusk was? (Not to be picky, but it's not the Dusk Court - the land of dusk existed before the courts were established.) People have theories, but we don't know yet. All we know is that it's an island off Prythian. I asked bookclub to be sure and @yazthebookish thinks that it could be the island that is to the west of Prythian, in between the Night and Day Courts - because dusk.

Okay so back to the Elain issue - of course it's possible that she will play some role in hofas. I just don't think it's likely. A lot of things are possible, but that doesn't mean they will happen, and based on what facts we know - not speculation - other characters have a much clearer, solid connection to what is going to happen in hofas.

The thing with her being a seer could be a potential link, but I have a few counterpoints:

What Bryce knows about the mystics is not positive, and she may not connect that practice with Elain's seer powers. When I mentioned before that Bryce's knowledge going into Prythian is important, this is part of it. The way that Elain is living and using her powers is a far cry from what is happening with the mystics as they create their map and wander through the worlds all drugged up and having given up their autonomy in exchange for financial security. Plus, we don't know for sure that seer powers and mystics are a one-to-one correlation. Which leads me to my next point:

Elain hasn't been using her powers. Not only that, but the IC has been very reticent to letting her help them in any way. IMO her story is going to require breaking away from the way that they coddle her, and that's not going to happen in another series.

We don't know that seer powers in Prythian would have anything to do with traveling between worlds, and that's the main goal right now - Bryce needs to get out of Prythian and to Hel, or back to Midgard. Is it possible that Elain's seer powers could help? Yeah, it is. But just because things work one way in Midgard doesn't mean they are going to work the same way in Prythian. And let's be honest, sjm does the absolute bare minimum explaining the magic in acotar. It seems much more likely that the people who have already been researching other worlds, explicitly, in Prythian, would hold those keys to answering Bryce's main challenge right now, which is getting the eff out of Prythian.

Regarding Elain being Made, there is the second point I made above about people not allowing her to help, but there is no reason that Elain would be required to use her Made status to find the fourth trove object when, as you mentioned, it likely doesn't really need to be found. It fell into their laps. Plus, Nesta and Feyre are still Made. Nesta is in a bonus. Nesta also has the tattoo. Nesta is still a more likely candidate to work with any trove-related things.

My thinking that Elain won't be very present in hofas is based on the things we know for sure: she wasn't present at the end of hosab, she isn't present in a bonus (that we know of yet), she hasn't been using her powers, she hasn't been allowed to help, and there are other characters who already have a much clearer connection to what is happening in CC.

If we were to do this in a mathy way, I think that we could give each character a point for how many things they have that potentially connect them to the hofas plot, but I would give more points to facts we are already sure about, over speculation. And while Elain wouldn't have zero points, other characters would have far, far more.

I am aware that sjm has said she's working on Elain's book. I think most of us are, and it would be pretty poor planning if sjm hadn't been thinking about how Elain will fit into all of this, but I just don't think that we have reason to believe it has anything to do with other worlds, not when the visions we know she's had thus far are related to the current acotar conflict. Is it possible? Yes!

But sjm has also said that she came up with the crossover where the characters would interact with each other to this extent while she was writing hosab, not before! Which means that if she does connect Elain to other worlds in the ways you are suggesting, it's a retcon. It wasn't planned ahead of time. She literally changed acosf to make space for the crossover in hosab (e.g., Rhys worrying about someone else coming through à la Aelin in the feysand chapter), and yet nothing happened with Elain in acosf to make her connection to CC seem more likely. It would have been the perfect opportunity to have done so, and yet if you remove Elain from the acosf plot, nothing would be different.

Amren, the most powerful being in Pythian at one point that would absolutely have sensed ancient evil lurking in her vicinity for two years. Azriel, whose LITERAL JOB it is to sus out bad guys + his shadows who are also obviously intuitive here too. Mor, whose GIFT IS TRUTH. Every priestess in Sangravah that raised her and never felt she or Catrin was a threat and every priestess that she lives with in the library to boot???? Miss 28-year-old Gwyneth Berdara pull the wool over all their eyes Amarantha style just like that?? Because that's exactly what this theory suggests (Also don't get me started on her working w/ Koschei when the only two places Gwyn has ever been in her entire life are Sangravah and the library. See a chiropractor for that reach)

I mean if she managed it good for her, it would be deeply sexy of her to show up everyones faves but I need the haters to be SOOOO fr 😭😭 I beg for this and the evil Rhysand theory to die already. Besides the fact that it insinuates that she's lying about her rape, which is vile and I'm in your walls if you suggest she's fabricated that, nothing about her character or her actions indicates that she's a bad guy and it's WEIRD how much people want to discredit a survivor to further a ship (it's the only reason people dislike her lbr) Not every single minute detail that is said or that happens is foreshadowing. The necklace and the ear plugs specifically, since I see that come up a lot in this argument, are bonus chapter materiel that will likely never have any significance in the other books. Az is not gonna whip out a pair of gifted important earplugs that has the general audience wondering what the hell is going on and what they missed because they don't have the B&N edition of ACOSF.

For those who don’t know, I’m currently writing a homebrew D&D campaign with a spacey/modern setting! Some of these concepts are loosely based of yogs-fanon-adjacent designs, but the story and the setting are completely original and I will be treating it as such, as I have always struggled writing on my own characters and stories and I’m proud to finally be doing so ;w;

I hope to be sharing pieces of the story and lots of art from the campaign once we get going, but I wanted to share the three homebrew races I’ve designed! For the campaign, these (along with humans) are the only races to choose from, as the story takes place on a planet called Verdaea, home of the Starborn.

I plan on giving many updates, but I wanted to start here! The campaign will be titled: Stellarism.

Seren was not surprised when they arrived. She had known she would be caught, eventually. (That did not stop her from breaking the rules. Quite the opposite, in fact. She knew she was probably too rebellious for her own good, but she did not care.)

Seren was not surprised when they arrived. She was busy cleaning her flute, ensuring that every millimetre of it was clean. (The sheet music was scattered on the floor; she had it mostly memorised by now. And, though she didn't yet know it, it would not be there for long.)

Seren was not surprised when they arrived. She met the eyes of their leader with defiance in her gaze. (She would come to regret it, soon enough.)

The man with the golden eyes smiled at her, and she smiled back. Both of them were lying, blood boiling beneath his facade of kindness and hers of trust. But they could not show it; these halls were a place of peace, whether they liked it or not. The legends said that an injury brought deliberately upon someone here would return a thousandfold. Most stories of that sort were mere fairytales, but a few were true, and it was best to avoid the risk.

The others fell away as they left the grounds, returning to whatever duties they held. The man with the golden eyes stayed, his expression dead and apathetic. Looking at him was like gazing into a shark's eyes.

There was something ominous in the calm he showed, like he was the centre of a storm. Perhaps her rage was unjustified, perhaps her breaking of the rules was foolish. But no. She would not allow herself to be convinced that she had to stay there simply on account of the star-magic that had settled inside her as a child and refused to leave. She had hidden it on a mix of instinct and her parents' instructions, though she knew from the start that to be Starborn meant power, in terms of both magic and influence. That was not what she wanted. She wanted to entertain people, to play music to them and tell them stories. It was all she had ever wanted.

And now she was forbidden even that.

The path she reluctantly followed was familiar to her. The building it led to was where the Starborn would practice their magic, learning the shift of the skies and the pull of distant nebulae.

So. This is happening.

It was, by now, too late to escape, barring a miracle. (Miracles were what she did, but not in times of stress, not when her world was collapsing around her.) She would have to wait. Hope her punishment would amount only to a caution.

She was the only Starborn to have broken a serious rule in so long that she barely knew what to expect. Maybe she really would just escape with a warning.

The room was set up comfortably yet formally, the star maps rolled up and kept in their cases on the shelves. She didn't remember any furniture from the last time she had been there, but now she saw two chairs, soft-looking, sanguine in colour. The golden-eyed man nodded at her.

"Sit down."

His voice was curiously soft, like that of a much younger man, yet the break it caused in the silence was jarring. She sat.

"Why am I here?" she asked. Best to at least try to appear confused. They might let her get off lightly.

The man sighed. "You know why. But it isn't my job to –" he broke off, looked confused. "I am not the one who is to be holding this conversation."

"What do you –"

But somewhere in the intervening seconds, he had left.

Seren rose slowly to her feet, glancing around. Maybe I can just… leave?

She barely noticed the grasp of her hand around the door handle as she twisted it. Knowing my luck, it's probably locked, she thought, immediately before it opened.

"What are you doing?" hissed a voice from behind her.

Seren turned around.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know –"

The woman had clearly entered the room through some secret door. In her hands, she held a pair of silver bracelets inlaid with sapphire.

"You are Seren, correct?"

"Yes, I–"

"These are for you."

Is this a trick? Seren looked at the woman's face; she seemed genuine. Carefully, she took the bracelets and put them on.

Burning.

Agony.

She had never felt this much pain before. It grew and shifted until she could imagine nothing else.

Then it simply stopped.

As her vision steadied, the woman smiled at her. A predator's smile, empty of joy and full of teeth.

Seren tried to speak, tried to ask what was going on. Her mouth opened and closed, forming the shapes of the words but not the sounds.

The woman's smile grew wider.
