I watched The Watchowski Sisters' Speed Racer movie for the first time last night and holy shit I'm not exagerating when i say this is a fucking masterpiece and might be one of my favorite movies I've ever seen. It's like the antithesis of everything I hate about modern franchise/adaptation movies; its so creative, full of life and color and artistic intent. Every shot and edit feels so purposeful and crafted with passion and care, with no regard for cynicism or people thinking it might look dumb or "cringe". It's an ode to artistic passion in an age where creativity is filtered through profit motive and all art, from the smallest independent creator to the biggest franchise blockbuster, has to be sold to survive; that even in those conditions the passion of the artist can still break through and effect peoples lives for the better.
The Wachowskis' works, regardless of quality, have always dreamt of a better world, and I'm not bullshitting when I say the gaudy CGI car racing movie with a poo-throwing monkey is the type of art that makes me believe that world can exist.

V for Vendetta by Alan Moore.
A story originally created to serve as a warning of what could possibly arise from the Thatcherite government of the 1980s, V for Vendetta has stood the test of time as one of the premier works of the comic book medium. A story that tells a tale of tyranny and the valiant effort made to thwart it that's as timeless as it is harrowing.

After re-watching Matrix clips of Agent Smith I do kinda wonder how his "life" in the Matrix works. Does he... live like a normal human? Was he born, did he have a childhood? Or did he just pop into existence one day? Like, normal humans seem to percieve the agents as those weird and creepy government guys and they are never mentioned having first names and acting pretty obviously stiff and robotic. Also, since Smith refers to the Oracle as "mum" so is she - like - actually, "canonically" his mother in the Matrix?
Tbh my headcanon was always that she actually is and that the agents are like those NPC's standing around until they get an order but nobody notices bc the machines managing the Matrix "fill in the blanks" on anything that's weird with the agents, for example by making documents randomly appear or teleporting the agents somewhere or even altering the human's memories - just because I like the agents as these weird pseudo-robots lol
On that note, Smith's alibi first name is John and the agents do kinda embrace being emotionless machines (bc that's what they are and to distinguish themselves from the humans) so they approve of the machine's covering them.

I'm a sucker for 90's cornball queer cult films (I'm not a big noir person!!). This film objectifies the hell out of Gina Gershon's hands with her jaw harp (according to Wikipedia this was Gershon's idea!!!) and Bella Swan-ass truck, but her mouth alone is doing so much of the work! I guess the tattoos, earrings, and wardrobe do a lot too. If The Matrix made the masses buy leather trench coats, this movie makes me want to buy a lock pick earring set. This movie made me wonder do the Wachowskis love David Lynch? The elevator alone is giving Black Lodge. The outdoor scenes where Corky is spying on other characters felt like Lost Highway to me, funny how daylight can be eerie. Overall just some of the editing, flashbacks, and fading to white felt in the same vein as the fuzzy eroticism in Wild at Heart. I feel like DKL would love this soundtrack. It seems like everyone just had too much fun here (following the telephone cord!) and there's not one bit I can disparage about that! This movie pulls no punches. You can learn so much about how women view men from this film!!!
