I’m rereading Wait and Hope by mightbewriting, and this part will never not get me (spoilers ahead):

“Is that it, then? Are you telling me to leave?”

“That’s not what I meant,” she said, some of her fight draining. It was like beating a wounded creature, like he expected her to hurt him.

“Because I would,” he said, looking past her, avoiding. “If you really wanted me to, needed me to, I would. Because it’s not difficult, doing anything for you.”

I've ended up falling down a Dramione rabbit hole. I read some really amazing ones (Wait and Hope and Draco Malfoy and The Mortifying Ordeal of Being In Love are probably my favorites, although Measure of a Man was also PHENOMENAL).

However, I've just finished Manacled. It was so well written and absolutely brilliant, but holy shit on a stick if it didn't break my heart.

The alternate ending to the Battle of Hogwarts was worse than even my panicked teenaged brain could have come up with back when Deathly Hallows actually came out. I wept for characters I've always loved in ways I didn't think I could.

I finished the flashback scenes last night and thought about them all morning, until I forced myself to get back into it and read the rest of the story. Which was still devastating. But honestly.

I am currently drowning my sorrows in Meg Cabot's cheerful writing and then I'll have to reread something funny and familiar. All the people telling me they've reread Manacled, like, HOW?! I need a few years away from it before I could think of rereading.

So.

Recently got into some Dramione fics. I’ve decided I really like this ship, against my better judgement.*

I started out with “the silver envelope” and just adored it. It felt so genuinely them (apart from Ron being wildly out of character imo but plot gotta plot).

Then “Wait and Hope” absolutely ensnared me. I love an amnesia plot dealing with falling in love with your spouse all over again. So good.

I remembered “Isolation” as a fic from years ago that my sister really loved, and found it from a plot point I remembered her obsessing over. Totally agree with her, it’s such a good “what if” story.

And now I’ve finished “Manacled”. I really didn’t think I’d love it as much as I did because non-con is not something I go for, and handmaiden’s tale plots freaks me out for real. But! It’s an amnesia plot with ma-ha-ha-jor stakes, and came highly recommended by the community, so I gave it a whirl.

I really really loved it. I would not recommend it to those who struggle with memories of experiencing SA, wartime PTSD, nyctophobia, agoropbobia, claustrophobia, or a fear of body horror because it gets graphic. It’s a dense, heavy read that you gotta put mental space aside for. But if you can manage it, I highly highly recommend it.

Ive got a few stories I want to read lined up, but if anyone has recommendations for me to peruse, I’d love some ideas!

*For reference, I don’t ship movie Dramione, I only like it as an AU in fan fiction. I know Tom and Emma had an unspoken something over the years, but I can’t picture Tom’s Malfoy and Emma’s Hermione as a couple. They just can’t stand each other, and it feels really out of place to me when I contextualize it with the films.

Harry Potter Rec Fest Day 14 - Favorite Series

I have a lot of series bookmarked, but due to time constraints, I often default to shorter stories. There are a few series that I devoured though and I'm grateful for @hprecfest for reminding me to rec them. All of them have excellent podfic versions too!

Do It All Over Again by @dracowillhearaboutthis (Podfic read by @sandstripe) Pairing: Draco x Harry Word count: 468,229 Length: 34:34:15 Rating: E

This is a canon rewrite beginning before first year, when 11 year old Draco receives a letter from his future self. I found it to be well thought out and developed Draco's character in an interesting way.

As for the podfic, the narrator themself states in the notes that the read fast, and they absolutely do. But they speak clearly, recording quality is good, there's no bumps or breathing or other unnecessary sounds, and if you slow it down to 75 or 80 %, I find it to be totally listenable. I honestly don't know how they speak so quickly, it's superhuman!

The Mirror of Ecidyrue by starbrigid (Podfic of the first 4.5 books on Spotify by starseeker) Pairing: Draco x Harry Word count: 1,219,490 Length: long Rating: T to eventually E

This is also a canon rewrite, but with Draco going unwillingly back in time. He doesn't immediately become buddy-buddy with Harry; it's actually Hermione who befriends him. There's funny and angsty and really thoughtful canon adherence and divergence. I haven't finished the series yet, but I've enjoyed it so much. Starseeker reads it very beautifully and still updates sporadically (believe me, I know what a massive undertaking it is to record a series like this of 1.2 million words!), so I'm kind of holding out hope that they'll finish and I'll be able to listen to the rest. They're currently abut halfway through book 5.

@heyjude19-writing already said everything I would say about this series, and much more eloquently (obviously). I'll just add that I almost used this rec for both Comfort fics and Fics that make you cry (porque no los dos?), and that @beatificbean does a beautiful job with this series as well. She just cranks out the top-tier drama and romance; I aspire to someday be so prolific and talented. I mean, she recorded over ONE MILLION words just for these two recs, and there's lots more where that came from.

I know this is probably an annoying ask and I’m sorry if you’ve received it immense amounts of times.. I’m just wondering if you’d ever consider writing Jan 2013 in the wait and hope series? I just love the story so much and I know you’ve mentioned you weren’t planning to continue.. just wanted to see if your minds changed at all/if you would consider in the future? Anyway thanks so much for writing and letting us all enjoy your work!

lol hi anon, this is definitely a well tread question. thank you so much for reading my work! i'm sorry to report my mind has not changed on the matter of anything beyond january 2013. the world of wait and hope is complete for me (with the possible exception of couch collection entries pre-jan 2013), and personally, i think that explicitly deciding on the memory situation would dampen the poignancy of the overall story. w&h isn't about the memories themselves, it's about dramione finding each other again despite them.

Good Omens S2Ep2 Where is the Clue?

It bothers me to think that Aziraphale effectively distracted us from The Real Clue we were given in Ep2 to the main plot of Good Omens (plans for third season included).

Recording "Everyday" really took us nowhere. Meanwhile, during this particular episode Jimbriel quotes God, giving the angel and the demon a place to look for answers - the Book of Job. This is the only flashback that is woven into the plot, justified by reading the story together. Aziraphale's first temptation, the first time that both: the garden serpent and the eden's guardian find each other on the same side, sitting on the lonely stone bench in front of the vastness of the sea. Angel!Demon who goes along with Heaven!Hell as far as he can.

Where does this leave us? Are the life of these two, their relationship, the subject of another bet between God and Satan? Or had Jimbriel told them the purpose of it - a test like Job's Story, to finally redeem angels and demons alike? Either way, I'm looking forward to season three and analyzing Good Omens as a whole. Wait and hope...

Wait and Hope & Beginning and End by mightbewriting

Last week I finished this beautiful piece of literature and now I am here to express my love for it.

I have decided that there WILL be a Wait and Hope reread soon bc how can i read Draco’s perspective of their relationship in Beginning and End and NOT go back to consume the heartbreak he felt in the first book?? I need myself to go through that heartbreak with him. I need it more than air at this point.

I truly bow down to authors who can pull something like that off. Something that can be reread time and time again and create something even more heartbreaking as a second time read. It’s sooooo impressive and is something I’m not too sure I could ever do. This author did it PERFECTLY!!

HONORABLE MENTION TO THE SMUT!!! when I tell you the smut is good…boy you better believe me!! And the amount of times we get our favorite couple walked in on is - P E R F E C T I O N! I might be biased bc that is a strong favorite trope of mine but I fell for it every time Harry or Theo call our duo out for previous walk-ins all while catching Draco and Hermione basically do it all over again, repeating their past together.

Okay okay I could talk about this for years I think and I’ll stop here…but all I have to say is that this story shall go down in my personal fanfic hall of fame :)
