regulus peers through the crack in the door hinges, watching his mother and father standing by the family tapestry. orion steps forward, following the spindly lines of the artwork until reaching a small portrait with a name under it, ‘sirius black’. he glances at it for just a moment before turning to face walburga, nodding as she lifts her wand, mutters a word and presses it against the portrait. it instantly begins to smoke. quickly, they step away and towards the door, forcing regulus to retreat into the shadows before making his own way into the room.

he reluctantly approaches the tapestry, holding his hand out to touch the portrait where sirius’ face had been. he places his index finger in the burn marks, pulling his hand back and rubbing the ash between his fingers.

“i’m sorry, brother.”
