Now Normal Chronicles or: Saviour of the Universe
Today is the 40th anniversary of the US release of the soundtrack to Flash Gordon from Queen. Now, I understand the film was probably crap to some of you, but to me, I fell in love with it because I am a fantasy/sci fi fan. I dig it. Plus, I love Queen so… this is a great version!
And, I walked almost 3000 steps today. Again, not 6000 that my watch says I should be doing, but a…
Day 27 of productivity. January 27 2021.
I woke up earlier to attend a driving class. My teacher was nice and social. I learned a few things and I’m excited to put them in action, but I still have a lot to practice. What you currently see is the breakfast that I made before going. Instead of taking the bus, I walked! Which means an hour in total. I saw a job opportunity that interests me and I might apply tomorrow, but I still have doubts… I did Blogilates’ January 27th workout but wasn’t too into it, because I was tired and my legs hurt. I stretched to feel better and I’m finally seeing progress in my left split which makes me so happy !!!! I’m no longer bending too much my front knee so that’s a big step. I had the Bible study and talked about the importance of not judging the way others lead their spiritual life. I then saw a funny TV show with my parents. Spending time with them feels so good.

Today’s Walking Photo: Well, the dogs didn’t quite achieve the landslide victory they’d set their sights on, but still we got most of what we were hoping for in the election, and the good people at NWGSD (two of whom I’m delighted to call friends) had a truly notable impact on the national discussion with their “LOVE WINS” sign that appears in the background.
(The jury’s still out on the humans, but the dogs are definitely right about some of them at least…)
Went on two separate walks today lol. The first was a half hour walk like usual in Wellness in Action, and then a 15 minute one to get from school to the church where I stay for online choir. (It’s a long story.) I didn’t bike today because my mother decided that it was far too snowy for that and I needed to be driven. Which was, admittedly, much warmer, but less fitness inducing 乁( •_• )ㄏ
30 minute walk during Wellness is Action, and then I had to bike home, so that was 30 ish minutes across 6 miles through the snow. I was soaking wet by then end, everything was wet. I also made it to 10,000 steps.
30 minute walk for wellness in action, spent an hour and a half on Driver’s ed, and my period came. The truth of the matter is that when I’m on my period I get lazier even though exercise makes me feel better. Oh cruel world ಠ ೧ ಠ
Happy Sunday, I went to Church online as usual. What was unusual was the 3 and a half hours I spent walking around. I was out with an old friend of mine, and we walked around a foot mall together for a while. It was really nice to see him, and I got lots of steps.
I was honestly so giddy when I first saw how many steps I took, my goodness I’m such a dork
Re-watching this lecture gave me more ways that I can explore illustrations in my work to capture a dérive successfully with exploring the beauty behind the ugly and questioning the things around me as well as uncovering narratives of the place.
Oliver Kugler’s work uses very tight marks by working from photographs. The added colour is soft linking to the environment and the character chosen to interview. The composition has richness to it which I like with adding quotes from the subject matter. It makes me consider how much quotes I add to the work to convey whether I want the composition to be cluttered or not for a certain reason.
Lizzy Stewart’s way of working is to always carry around a sketchbook. I really like her use of pencil crayon in both thee shading and the qualities of line as it creates this soft effect with the texture. This makes me consider what materials I will use in my sketches to convey a certain feeling to my work. She also only picks up on details in her work, so it is important to consider how much do I need in my composition to communicate something. Her work includes a real life account to it, with written details and motifs to it which I really like as it forms a connection to the viewer and engages them more into the subject matter. There is also a sense of depth like with the playlist written down with what music she listened to. I could incorporate this into my work with how music can change your feelings on a piece against the feeling of the environment.
I really like the work of Simone Ridyard and how there is a use of mixed media with the watercolour splats. The use of the grey hue evokes a dull atmosphere to the piece and makes me think about how I can use accent hues to convey a feeling to the work.
Laura Oldfield’s work focuses on beauty behind the ugly with creating zines on postcode areas in London, communicating the class struggle in the city. She focuses on places that are overlooked which I can explore in my work. She has a very delicate approach but uses a neon shade overlay to convey the graffiti and add some energy to the work as well as another layer on meaning. What could I communicate with a pop of colour?
Doughty has a scribble aesthetic to her work, creating this idea of urgency which I like. the way of capturing only the small details I find really interesting as it still conveys the subject matter effectively.
Oliver Jeffers commercial piece explores the characteristics of there city. I like the way he snatches what people have said which is something I can explore in my work. I also really like there notebook aesthetic to the piece and how it resembles this travel aesthetic to it, linking to the subject matter well and it is made me think whether I can replicate that with my journey.

The aim of this project is to share our world’s natural beauty with everyone confined indoors due to Covid-19.
The more people who share these posts on social media with friends and followers, the more people we’ll reach. It’ll also show them our wonderful world. Maybe, between us, we can restore…
The day of New Years Leah and Julian took a walk through the fashion district. Julian was telling Leah all about his plan after college and what he wanted them to do together.

Powerful words and a powerful performance.
