hot take anyone who would benefit from a mobility aid deserves to have one. idc how disabled you are. if you think it’ll help you, even a little, you deserve it. you deserve that help.

i realized how helpful my cane was when i was sick and dizzy (still sick tho lol).
i could hardly walk i felt so bad but i was able to walk because of my cane.
canes are so fucking cool. and useful. even if you don’t “need” them.

If I find out that my mother’s refusal to let me use crutches is causing (physical) damage to my body I might go beast mode. 👿👿

Okay, uh… so I got a new cane and just for the fun of it, I’m asking you (general audience reading this post) how you would decorate it!
I genuinely encourage anyone who comes across this post to put their decoration suggestion in the comments
Imagine you get to decorate a walking cane for a 20-something young adult
Stickers, reflectors, tape, pendants, trinkets – go nuts!
Don’t bother looking at my blog, BTW. If you see this post and have any ideas/ creative impulse/ opinion about it, feel free to just comment that!

REMINDER.
It’s okay to need a mobility device if you’re young.
It’s okay to need a cane
It’s okay to need a walker/rollator
ITS OKAY to need a wheelchair, or to use the riding carts in stores
Age does not matter. Use what you need.

If I'm not depressed and can do stuff I do too much and then my body burns out
But if I'm depressed I feel like I don't wanna get better so I don't do anything
What is the magic potion?

fuck it.png, might as well ask since this has been on my mind for a while, so hey,
People who have used canes in some form or another! Hi! I have used a cane a few times, the reason for my use is a wavering thing so constant use isn't needed in my case, but it does provide stability. Especially in the morning, when my body is usually the weakest. Thing is, using a cane gives me lots of anxiety, and not because of people looking at me. Well, that, but more than that. The thing is, the noise of a cane against the ground makes me feel so awkward. Like oh no people are gonna stare at me and think I'm weird and aaaa. Or maybe reminds me of loud footsteps. Just really skyrockets the anxiety.
And I know some of this may be some internalized stuff to work out. It's made me curious about something, though. Are there canes that are...not like that? That don't sound like loud footsteps?
Cause that would be great—

Sighs. Am I the only one who feels like books and stuff “about” disabled people are often not actually aimed at disabled people?
I keep seeing books like “disabled people live normal lives just like you can me!” Like yeah. I know. I’m disabled. Do you think disabled people just…don’t read books?
Can we get some media about disabled people that’s actually FOR disabled people please and thank you.

used my cane the first time yesterday (and today if you count a semi long public outing)
when i went for my walk, i didn’t get any burning sensation in my legs from walking uphill.
I’m able to balance on one foot when i feel i can’t put weight on one (not for pain reasons but it’s just uncomfortable sometimes)
it hurts my hands kinda but i think the pros outweighs the cons.
i actually wanna walk more using it, i feel more stable, i have something to rest/lean on. and i think they’re really pretty so that’s a plus as well.
not too many stares either.
