I can’t believe my eyes...a man in a period drama, a freaking emperor in a period drama, says that? Whoa. (It was strongly implied in what he told her before but now they made it explicit.)
I am vvvv fond of Emperor Hawt. It made me think of this scene actually:

I’ve been trying to compile a list of all the c-pop fandoms I’ve been in, ever, which is A LOT.
And I was surprised to find that I did lurk in an rpf fandom at one point!

I loved their onscreen partnership in “Love Me If You Dare”, the very first C-drama I ever watched. I loved that drama for its complexity and its wonderful mix of drama, suspense-thriller and even light comedy and romance. I loved Wallace Huo’s brilliant but mysterious and shadowy character Bo Jin Yan/Simon and Ma Sichun’s seemingly demure but intelligent, quick-thinking and brave Jian Yao. They had amazing chemistry together.
Which is why I’m so happy to find out, albeit several years belatedly, that they reunited in a movie called “Somewhere In Winter”. I’m going to watch this and maybe one of these days will do a rewatch of “Love Me If You Dare”. But not after I’m done with Ma Sichun’s “You Are My Hero”.
Speaking of Ma Sichun, I just completed a much older drama she was in called “Fiancee” with the gorgeous Dennis Oh. I liked that too but more for her chemistry with Dennis and the sweet and gentlemanly character he was playing. The story development, though, was kind of dragging and I think it lacked exposition on why Ma Sichun’s character Lan Xiao Yi was referred to as the titular fiancee. She was the one-time fiancee of her ex Tian Fei, and I was expecting that Dennis Oh’s Mao Ya Zu (nicknamed Hou Zhu or “monkey”) was going to present her to his family as his fake fiancee (which he did, for about one or two episodes) and make her play the part when needed. But that didn’t really happen and she only became Ya Zu’s fiancee in the end and they got married quickly thereafter.
I hope “You Are My Hero” will be a good drama but I think “Love Me If You Dare” will always be my favorite drama of hers.

My dream svsss live action (cont)
Part 2
part 1 for my headcanon live action cast here
the last post didn’t have enough room to include all the characters, so here’s the rest of ‘who would i cast in a liveaction svsss drama’ thoughts and why
Shen Yuan - ?? or Bai Jingting
Tumblr media
pic from my drama list here. i don’t have the Strongest opinion on the actor for shen yuan because he would only be in like. a few scenes at the beginning. i think bai jingting could do a reasonably good job, since he knows how to. hmm how to describe it...do comedic face journeys in a way that still feels true to a historical period drama?? like he knows how to be funny without coming off as too modern.  he’s also doing an Excellent job as a main role in Chang Feng Du, for anyone who’s asking. otherwise some other actor from a youth drama/college setting drama could probably be a nice candidate, if they know how to switch from serious/air of slightly disdainful cynicism to Peak Comedy and obliviousness at the drop of a hat (which i wouldn’t know bc i don’t watch a ton of modern cdramas ; w ; )
Yue Qingyuan - Tony Leung
Tumblr media
no thoughts, head empty, who else can exude guilt and yearning like a sexy, sexy cologne??? for yqy it would be Nice to have an actor who can pull off the competent smiling look with an air of hidden melancholy and. like. yep.
Ning Yingying - Amy Sun
Tumblr media
she did a good job in the eternal love series (totally different drama from the one about the peach blossoms and 3 lives). i honestly had mixed feelings about the show, but i did watch at least two season of it so. who knows. she was very good as jing xin with the scenes she was given, even tho i bounced off the actual heroine’s personality type completely
Liu Mingyan - Kira Shi
Tumblr media
not much commentary here!! this was just on general looks and acting feel probably. haven’t seen her specifically in any fight-heavy/wuxia shows (but i did watch weaving a tale of love and story of minglan) so. i think for looks, she does contrast pretty distinctly from the above ning yingying casting, idk idk
Liu Qingge - Li Hongyi
Tumblr media
if you need someone to play like. a seemingly more pretty but delicate look warrior while also being dangerous, he can do that! his acting skills would pretty much be up to task, etc etc
Sha Hualing - Tang Wei
Tumblr media
confession time is that i haven’t actually. watched lust, caution which she starred in (which i heard was very good and also got her blocked out of a lot of other acting projects afterwards), but i do think her overall face profile has the right vibe
(Guest Role) Su Xiyan - Dilraba Dilmurat
Tumblr media
i just liked how she played her main role in the long ballad, and dilraba also knows how to give off that no-nonsense competent aura as a heroine while also being emotive for romantic-type storylines and passionate feelings
(Guest Role) Tianlang-jun - Wallace Huo
Tumblr media
you need an emperor-type actor with capriciousness, humor, danger and vulnerability??? it’s him.....he would be so so so good, i know this in my heart!!! (for a sample of his acting, there is a clip from the ruyi drama here u could check out)

Top 10 cdramas (of all time)
With a few disclaimers: this is obviously an extremely subjective list based on my extremely subjective preferences. I love palace conflicts, enemies to lovers, grumpy-sunshine, and devoted MLs. I’m not a big watcher of xianxia as a genre (the last one I finished was …journey of the flower? Unless you count novoland: castle in the sky as one, which I don’t) and youth dramas. I’m also generally allergic to republic era dramas. But it doesn’t mean that there aren’t good ones, just not my genre.
Anyways, drumroll…
1. Legend of Ruyi (bc I refuse to call it Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace)
I wrestled back and forth with this and my #2. Funny enough, this one does not have a devoted ML (I think Qianlong is like the opposite). Zhou Xun’s acting is breathtaking and what a journey she takes you on.
2. Story of Minglan
This is pretty much what I wish BBC period dramas could produce and everything that Downton Abbey wished it could be. Yeah I said it. The only reason it’s #2 is that I rewatch Ruyi more.
3. Bu bu jin xin (step by step/original scarlet heart)
I have it higher than Gong because BBJX is one of those dramas that you see new things even upon the 10th rewatch. It’s also a master class on concise writing/directing.
4. Glory of Tang Dynasty
I’ve devoted a lot of posts about it. There are probably ones lower on my list that are objectively “better” but that entire list that I’m weak for? This contains all of them.
5. Legend of Zhenhuan
Funny enough, 5 years ago it would have been on the top of my list. It’s still great, but I just like the 4 above better.
6. Go Ahead
Wait, a modern cdrama on this list? Yes. What can I say, it’s a show where in the span of an episode I’m laughing so hard my stomach hurts and crying into a pillow.
7. Singing all along
I didn’t anticipate this would be so high up my list when I first watched it. But it’s probably one of Yuan Hong’s best performance to date and other than the enemies to lovers, it hits all of my kink. It does have an HEA (that’s not a spoiler, it’s based on 2 historical figures), but get ready for a lot of angst to get there.
8. Jade Palace Lock Heart
I maintain that it’s the best adaption of boys over flowers and I stand by it.
9. General and I
This is probably where my disclaimer comes in. Yes, there are plot holes. Yes, Angelababy’s acting is questionable. Yes, there are questionable CGI. Yes, there are pacing issues.
But it is a sweeping romance novel coming Tom life and hit every one of my kinks.
10. Battle of Changsha
A republic era drama on this list? That has motherland patriotic tones giving this first gen Chinese American very complicated feelings?
But it’s like Wallace Huo’s best acting to date. It is hopeful and heartbreaking at once.
(Honorable mention, goodbye my Princess which narrowly came in at #11)

Look, I think I found sad Yue Qingyuan:
Tumblr media
(^ Wallace Huo in black sect leader robes)
I re-read the film industry AU in my bingyuan + qijiu fic “Full Moon, One Life Later”. Prompted me to think that Yue Qingyuan’s demise in PIDW, paired with a good BGM, would look glorious and heartbreaking on screen. Handsome actor in the rain, embodying a bedraggled character who’s throwing his last dregs of life and dignity out the window for love, but that in itself is an act that commands respect—and loads of infatuation from newfound fans.
The SVSSS comedy could be so good too…but…
Rambling: even if danmei films could be made, I don’t think the current standard of dramas would match what I’d personally like to watch, as I’m very picky about costumes, the directing and acting, the actors’ appearances, etc. For example, Luo Binghe—has to be strikingly hot at one glance, chiselled yet delicate, huadian on his forehead has to enhance his look…I’m just being completely delusional.
Going further off track: by the way, my favourite actor’s face is Wallace Huo’s (king of snowy scenes, famously didn’t wear makeup when he was young):

Some Yan Yikuan pics where he’s more fine-featured look nice too:

C-Actors List
Tumblr media
I made this list in August 2022.
I have, since then, settled into the fandom; and most of my time now is more focused on Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo, and occasionally Yang Yang.
Still, the list is still relevant because these are the C-Actors that are still, more or less, still within the scope of my "radar"
Of course, there are actually more C-Actors within my radar range than what is listed here (I follow them on Weibo! lol) but I didn't want to make the list very long.
And so, without further ado—
PS. This is still, very much, a part of the whole transfer everything from Twitter to tumblr!
PPS. A limited version of this list is also on Pinterest—

I'll just have you know that I followed you strictly for your Luo Yunxi content like 3 years ago and I've enjoyed your blog so much! I have so many dramas of his to catch up on (Ashes of Love was where I found him) so if you have any faves to recommend I start with next, I would love to see them! No obligation, of course. I mostly just wanted to tell you I appreciate you a lot 💕
My side blog is @vegasandhishedgehog, where I'm likely to reblog your stuff 😅
Aw thank you so much!! I'm so happy to spread the love and appreciation for Xixi around tumblr.
Tbh being a luoshifen is not easy. As marvelous an actor as he is, many of his dramas can be a struggle to get through for every other reason besides him.
To start: not a drama but do watch PhantaCity to see him dance!
youtube
The one drama I usually rec to friends is Love is Sweet - but only if you are OK with modern romcoms. (the second cp is eehhh and the plot is silly and super fluffy but he and Bai Lu are amazing.) I think it's still only on iqiyi.
Princess Silver is pretty good, but it's really long and he's barely in it even though billed as 3rd male lead. So also recommended, but know there's a looooong dry spell in the middle with no xixi 😔. His character is super tragic so bring tissues. I think it's on yt.
He's beautiful in And the Winner is Love but overall the drama is... not good. It can (should) be watched at 2x and just slow down for his scenes. Tragically some of his scenes were cut even though he was the ml, which I am still salty about.
I'll go out on a limb and say Fox in the Screen (or Screen Foxes depending on who you ask) 萍里护 is worth checking out if you're super curious. It's a cheap web drama and very cheesy, but it's what got him the gig as Runyu in ashes of love.
One of his first roles was playing the younger version of Wallace Huo's character in My Sunshine - so he's only in the middle flashback part but it's pretty good and on Netflix (in the US at least). (I only watched his part but it was a popular drama).
Instead of any other of his dramas I heartily recommend Mr. Mossie which is a...cultural?variety?idk what to call it show that he did - the LuoYunxi fanclub on youtube has subbed most of them except the last season for some reason.

(F/M/NB) THE FABULOUS FELLOWSHIP OF THE FGT PODCAST #internetfriends #feelgood #diversité (tw: grossophobie)
(F/M/NB) WE DON'T NEED TO BE RELATED TO RELATE #chosenfamily #30s #40s #friendship #feelgood
(F/M/NB) THE INNOCENCE PROJECT FOLKS #charity #lawyers #channelyourinnermattmurdock
(M) THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS #trustfundbaby #geekcharming #fragilemasculinity #breakup #growth
