I can finally upload this :)!!
My fav panel I did for the War! Comic redraw collab! It was an honor to participate AND to draw the one, the only, Administrator.
Sigh. I can hear her now. “OVERTIME. YOUVE FAILED” dreamy sigh 🥰

So. ive had idea in my head of the differences between Soldier and Demo’s reactions in the WAR! comic to Pauling’s offer an. IDK I think about boots’n’bombs a lot a lot so. i wanted to like. analysis moment
SO. delving into the beginning of it, just from the pictures of them at the beginning of the comic, these two have obv been friends for a while. my guess would be at least like. 5 months? if they just did one thing together a month but it could be a little shorter/longer. theres defo things they went and did that they didn’t take pictures of, so id lean toward the longer side but!
They’ve obviously been buds for a while! they do the regular hangout stuff go places together do things together an hav fun. BUTTTTT they do work for two very high security mercenary teams fighting over nothing in the middle of nowhere headed by bitch administrator so of course she finds out.
so she does what she thinks will drive them apart. (and it does)
Demo is the first one we see get got, and it could be out of order and maybe the administrator gets to Soldier first, but im just going to agree with the comic for sake of simplicity on this one. But maybe they went for him first because they knew he would cave easier? Who knows, but when Pauling proposes the idea of killing his best friend, Demo is initially against it.
he even laughs about it! Because how crazy is that, a request to kill his best friend for a stupid weapon? Absurd. Buttttt i think its a bit sidelined a lot that Demo is technically Scottish royalty. And i may not know any of the intracies of that mess, but I feel like its okay to assume that theres a fair amount of tradition and weight upon somebodys shoulders when theres that much history in your family and your own title as a person.
So, when Demo’s offered the Eyelander, a sword tied to that same royalty title, he takes it for a bit of a test run. not that he’s alltogether considering killing Soldier yet, but maybe he feels a bit compelled to take it because of his royalty status.
Even despite that initial compulsion he says he won’t kill Soldier. They’re best friends he can’t kill Soldier. But maybe Pauling went to Demo first because they knew he’d be the easiest to convince because of his history,
and maybe because of how much they knew itd destroy him if they said Soldier agreed to kill him. So, in the end, Demo caves.
(I think another thing people forget is that Miss Pauling is very much the Administrator’s right hand for purposeful reasons!) she’s sweet and maybe not very impressive looking, but she plays Demo like a fiddle here.)

it's always so fascinating and heartbreaking when a character in a story is simultaneously idolized and abused. a chosen prophet destined for martyrdom. a child prodigy forced to grow up too fast. a powerful warrior raised as nothing but a weapon. there's just something so uniquely messed up about singing someone's praises whilst destroying them.

Not feminist as in "women should be included in the draft" but feminist as in "being drafted is a violation of bodily autonomy for any gender".
The draft should not exist. Drafting people into the military is a violation of human rights. You should not be able to force someone to risk their life. If you can't find enough people who care about a conflict to keep it going then it simply shouldn't keep going. You can't even force someone to donate a kidney using government power, why the fuck can you force them to donate their whole body and life to a cause they don't agree with or don't care about?
