Hello. I'm totally procrastinating and had a random thought - do you think the SVU Detectives and the loveable ADA Barba have any fears/phobias like for example spiders, heights or maybe even snakes?

Understand they 'catch bad guys' for a living but I like the idea that say Sonny has a dislike of clowns or I think there is an episode where Fin's scared of puppets 😆

ADA Rafael Barba- His phobia is mysophobia or the fear of germs. Not only is he neat and tidy, but he is also a clean freak, almost obsessively. He always carries alcohol hand sanitizer, has disinfecting wipes in his desk drawer, and washes his hands frequently. When Covid hit and everyone was required to wear a mask, he had personalized ones that matched his suits.

ADA Dominick “Sonny” Carisi, Jr.- Sonny has pediophobia or the fear of dolls. It stems from his older sisters telling him scary stories when he was little. They said the old dolls his mom had on display would come alive at night and try to steal his eyes. Sonny still gets chills when he sees a porcelain doll or one of the dolls that opens and closes its eyes. He’ll avoid the doll aisle at all costs.

ADA Peter Stone- Peter’s phobia is autophobia or fear of being alone. His mom left when he was young, his dad worked all the time and his sister was institutionalized. He has felt alone most of his life. To not feel alone he fills his time with random women and alcohol.

Captain Olivia Benson- Liv’s phobia is sciophobia or fear of shadows. Even when she was little she was afraid of shadows. As an adult, she knows what can lurk in the shadows: physically and mentally.

Sergeant Odafin “Fin” Tutuola- He has a fear of puppets or pupaphobia. There’s not really a back story with this one. They just creep him out.

Sergeant Michael Dodds- He has atychiphobia or a fear of failure. I mean if your father is William Dodds and you’re the golden child you don’t have a greater feat than failure.

Detective Amanda Rollisi- Amanda has cherophobia or fear of happiness. Every time she’s been happy something happens to derail it. It’s one reason she taints relationships.

Detective Nicolas Amaro- Nick’s fear is nyctophobia or fear of darkness. When he was a child his dad would always come home late and drunk. Nick would lay in the dark listening to his dad abuse his mom. He still has a nightlight in every room of his house.

Detective John Munch- His fear is politicophobia or fear of government. Really no explanation is needed here.

Detective Elliot Stabler- Elliot has alektorophobia or fear of chickens. His grandparents had a farm when he was little. The rooster would chase him and usually peck him, drawing blood.

Dr. Melinda Warren- Chief Medical Examiner- She has frigophobia or fear of becoming too cold. Melinda’s first autopsy case was a person that froze to death. It’s stuck with her since.

Detective Katriona “Kat” Tamin- Her phobia is sparkalaphobia or fear of glitter. Kat’s mom would dress her in glitter, sequins, and girly clothing. Now, she shies away from anything that triggers her fear. You don’t need sparkles and frills to be feminine.

Detective Joseph Velasco- Joseph has merinthophobia or fear of being tied up. This phobia developed later in life. He had a one-night stand that went a little awry. Joe’s date tied him to the bed frame, blindfolded him, and left. He had to wait for his roommate to come home to untie him.

George Huang, M.D.- George’s fear is ornithophobia or fear of birds. When he was growing up his mother had a houseful of birds of different types: macaws, parakeets, and finches just to name a few. All they did was squawk, peck at him when he tried to pet them, and poop around the house.

Captain Donald Cragen- Donald’s fear is stenophobia or fear of narrow spaces. He doesn’t really know why. Nothing traumatic has ever happened.

Detective Brian Cassidy- Brian has staurophobia or fear of the crucifix. He was a Catholic growing up. Even went to a Catholic school. Brian got into trouble a lot resulting in getting paddled. Now seeing the crucifix brings back bad memories.

THE FORSAKEN ✽ key members

Led by Enzo Foust and Zora Pierce, the Forsaken run Lawmouth City. They are the most notorious gang in town, and they plan to keep it that way. Each member has their own area of expertise.

Warren Knox, AKA Knuckle Duster, is the bruiser. In charge of intimidation, Warren is hot-headed and trigger happy. He was the first member to be recruited into the Forsaken. Enzo gave him a home and a family, and he’s never going to let that go.

Leo Orion, AKA Golden Boy, is the charm. Ever the smooth-talker, Leo always has people wrapped around his fingers. He is known for getting what he wants, but on the off chance he doesn’t, he’s an excellent pickpocket and a master of stealth.

Jack Benson, AKA Boomer, is the demolition man. With a knack for pyrotechnics and explosives, Jack takes care of any and all disposal of evidence, buildings, cars, you name it. He would have been left to rot in jail had it not been for Enzo, who used his connections to get him out at the request of Warren, his only family member left.

Romy Katz, AKA Wildcard, is just that: a goddamn wildcard. When things start to go south, the Forsaken can count on Romy to distract with whatever crazy scheme she pulls from her bag of tricks. In most cases, her impatience gets her in trouble, but her ability to shake things up makes her invaluable to the Forsaken.

Parker Stroud, AKA Siren, is in charge of distraction and seduction. With a voice as sweet as honey and the natural ability to charm, Parker is incredible at her job. She tends to stay away from the action, but that is not to say that she can’t handle herself.

Magnus Bellamy, AKA Deadshot, is the sniper. Like Parker, he likes to stay away from the action, preferring to strike from the shadows. There’s not a lot to say about Magnus as he mostly keeps to himself, but everyone in the Forsaken is very fond of him.

Axel Mendoza, AKA Adonis (the alias he gave himself as everyone else only came forward with unkind aliases for him), is one of two new members in the Forsaken. Caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, Axel found himself all but forced to join the Forsaken, but he likes it. Being in a gang that is on top of the world, undoubtedly, has its perks.

Sullivan Walker, AKA Baby, is the youngest member of the Forsaken by far, just barely twenty-one. Enamored with the Forsaken, Sullivan tried and succeeded in hacking into the Forsaken’s information database in order to learn more about them, and ended up on Enzo’s radar in the process. Warren and Leo kidnapped him and Axel, and they were both very nearly dealt with for knowing too much, but Enzo couldn’t ignore how valuable a hacker could be for the team, so Sullivan was given a place in the Forsaken.

What does Kiss, or better (You Make Me) Rock Hard have to do with Muhammad Ali?

Oh, quite a lot, but only indirectly. On the film soundtrack and in the film credits for his biopic there is this heart-rending piece of music entitled The Greatest Love of All, which was interpreted by George Benson. In 1977.

However, since I hardly assume that Paul Stanley would have thought of the extremely catchy bridge of this song in 1988 (1) as a source of inspiration for Kiss' planned single release on their forthcoming Best Of album, I am therefore happy to shift our attention to the 1986 version by Whitney Houston. You know, the one that was a number one hit in America, Canada and Australia and mercilessly clogged up the airplay of radio stations and music television worldwide. Whitney Houston's second biggest hit overall, trumped only by her ultra-hit I Will Always Love You from the Bodyguard soundtrack, which sold how many copies? 30 million? No, no, 44 million copies!

Holy Christ! That sounds more like a bit of comprehensible inspiration, doesn't it?

But Rock Hard should actually ring another bell, namely one with the name Diane Warren engraved on it. The lady who is credited as its co-author (2), who happens to be the composer of dozens of hits and dozens of top ten hits by dozens of world stars, all of which I can't and I am not willing to list here because I have something else to do in two hours. Including, and this should go without saying, almost half a dozen of songs for Whitney Houston. Even though that happened a couple of years after Rock Hard, I nevertheless say with a satisfied smile: If that's not a good transition, then I don't know what is.

(You Make Me) Rock Hard and Whitney Houston. Somehow I had always suspected without realizing it. But finally I know for sure.

I will always love You (Make me Rock Hard).

Side Note:

(1) This means, I don't really care if Paul outed himself as a lifelong fan of classic soul. Decades later.

(2) And of course also of Turn On the Night and, ahem, Nothing Can Keep Me From You.
