Anti-Gay Bias On Tumblr

Tumblr has marked many of my posts as inappropriate. I have appealed many of these. Tumblr has reviewed them and deemed many to be inoffensive. Therefore, these posts can be seen by all.

Others, however, upon review Tumblr judged them to be in violation of community guidelines. I question Tumblr’s judgment. I question whether Tumblr’s standards have an anti-gay bias.

I do not post picture of full frontal male nudity. The only nudity I post are men’s bare butts. These are photos from the playing and practice fields, from the social media of athletes, and from media outlets. They are picture of athletes having fun.

I also comment on the bodies of male athletes. At times, my comments are erotically charged but never pornographic or gratuitous. I post pictures of gay men kissing each other. How is that in violation of community standards, unless your community is anti-gay?

I understand if Tumblr wishes to remove posts due to copyright violations. I do not understand why Tumblr wishes to remove posts that are simply homoerotic.

Addendum I: Tumblr has flagged every post of openly gay athlete Simon Dunn and my posts of Charity Calendars (such as Warwick rowers) as offensive. Why are posts that are about openly gay athletes marked as violating community standards? And what does Tumblr find offensive about straight and gay athletes who strip off (but do not show full frontal nudity) to campaign against homophobia in sport and society?

Big Day Out

Had a big day today out in the city. I wanted to go see Call Me By Your Name in the cinemas, and he closest showing was in Circular Quay. So i decided to have a day out in the city.

Started out by walking over to Oxford Street for lunch, then visited The Bookshop Darlinghurst where i bought a book, some dvds and a signed copy of the Warwick Rowers 2018 calendar.

After that, since i had time, i went for a stroll through the Botanical Gardens. The had a bunch of wildflowers and sunflowers growing where you could walk among them, which was a nice experience.

Then i went and saw the movie, and it was beautiful. Wasnt too happy with the changes made to the infamous ‘peach scene’ from the book (since it made Oliver seem a bit skeevy), but otherwise loved the aesthetic of the film, and i was teary-eyed through the credits.

Since the movie finished around peak hour, and my fare home would be cheaper if i waited, i went through the botanic gardens out to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, then over to Woolloomoolloo for a pie at Harry’s Cafe.

On my way back to the station, i spotted the Sydney Festival Village in Hyde Park, and since entry was free i decided to check it out. Though the side-shows didnt really interest me, i decided to ask at the ticket office about the performances in the Spiegeltent. And as luck would have it, someone who had pre-booked had canceled, so i got their ticket for free.

The show is called Riot, a variety/caberet show by an Irish troupe, hosted by drag queen Panti Bliss. It had a distinct political bent in the slam-poetry performances scattered throughout the show, broken up by musical and comedy acts. My favourite was the rugby-themed burlesque act by an aerial gymnast, who stripped down to a tiny thong while the singers did a remdition of ‘what a man”. It was quite funny while still being sexy, and i would have loved to be in the seats closest to the stage.

The one guy in the singing group was pretty hot too. And he had a great voice.

There was also a funny comedy duo who went by the names of Famous Seamus and Shauntastic, who did a bit of 80′s dancing while the show was delayed due to a wardrobe malfunction, and then later had a bit where Famous Seamus dressed as Jesus got ‘whipped’ by audience members with pool noodles, then Shauntastic fit himself through a ring ass-first (not without difficulty and needing to be folded almost double) while wearing a cling-film mankini.

During one song performance involving mirror balls, the power and lights cut out. The audience ended up using their phones to illuminate the stage so the the singer could continue. She improvised by getting the audience to sing a bit, but fortunately the power came back on before we all got tired of singing, so she could finish her bit properly.

Im now exhausted for all the walking, but it was a great day.

Short films competition seeks talent

The charity Sport Allies and the London Film School inviting applications for competition, with winners' completed films set to be featured on Sky Sports; deadline for applications is August 13

A short films competition organised by the charity Sport Allies and the London Film School is being supported by Sky Sports. 'Smart Shorts' is aimed at emerging film-making talent - particularly those using smartphone technology to make short films - who are passionate about equality and inclusion in sport. Are you a film-maker? Sport Allies is proud to launch Smart Shorts, an exciting new film competition in partnership with London Film School (@lfsorguk). Successful applicants will then be invited to attend a two-day workshop in London in September, where industry experts and professionals will assist them with additional skills training and advice on how to pitch their visions.Five winning pitches will then be supported to make their films for broadcast on Sky Sports later in 2018, and at least one film-maker will be offered a paid internship to create content for the Warwick Rowers, the successful calendar project which has raised thousands of pounds for Sport Allies. The charity, founded in 2014, works to promote more inclusive attitudes in sport, particularly towards the LGBT community, making use of both imagery and film.

I have been excited by how the Warwick Rowers have capitalised on that, and I am delighted to be working with Sport Allies, London Film School and Sky Sports to showcase the opportunities now available to film-makers everywhere."

Film-makers will be given training and advice at a special masterclass in London in September The London Film School (LFS), a non-profit educational charity based in Covent Garden, is internationally celebrated for its commitment to film, craft excellence, innovation and creative freedom. Warwick Rowers: Nudity for a Good Cause

The Warwick Rowers aren’t just getting undressed for the sake of it: there’s a serious message behind the nudity. The money raised from the calendar goes towards helping end homophobia in sport.

Sales of Warwick Rowers products have enabled the foundation of Sport Allies, a registered charity promoting greater LGBT inclusion and more gender equality in sport. The rowers – who all class themselves as ‘allies’, believe sport should help you fulfil your potential, regardless of your gender or sexuality.

This year the Rowers – all students from the Warwick University rowing team – took themselves to outstanding garden locations in the UK and Spain for a ten-day shoot.

A recent report by Sport Allies, launched in the House of Commons by Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee chair Damian Collins, suggested homophobic language should be banned in sport at all levels to make the pitch, field, court or river a more welcoming place for LGBT+ people.

The Warwick Rowers first released a calendar in 2009 to raise funds for the university boat club. The shoot took place in one day, in the freezing cold, and it raised a lowly £300. Now it raises a six-figure sum every year, with celebrity fans including Kris Jenner, Kylie Minogue and Sir Ian McKellen.
