I know we talk a lot about how Mulder found someone who finally listened to him when he met Scully. But I do believe it's true for her too. I mean, Scully is obviously a big NERD. And she's a woman, in a male-dominated workfield. She must have been interrupted or ignored countless times. So, when she finally met Mulder, it must have been so relieving for her to finally, finally, be heard.

I don't believe in soulmates. But there's something about these two, about them listening to the other, even when they don't understand a thing, without having to feign interest, that is so touching. It's like they're finally being seen. Mulder sees Scully, asks her about her medical opinion, never belittle a thing she says. And Scully sees Mulder, doesn't exactly believe in his theories but still takes the time to try and find some evidence to help him in his work, and apart from the occasional eye roll, she never makes fun of him, at least not in a mean way like people usually do.

And maybe, in that sense, they're soulmates. Because they are truly seen and heard when they're together.
