I don't know much about American history besides the highlights but people who like and admire Jurian and his chaotic defiance should read about an American abolitionist named Cassius Clay - even just his political career section in the wiki article.
I really like Jurian and what he represents.
I always found it weird how the narrative treated Jurian even though he was obviously a freedom fighter but this is what I meant when I said sjm doesn't show herself in a good light through the underlying politics in her series especially around humans as the previously enslaved group and narrative counterpart to bipoc.
In apartheid South Africa, the government painted our freedom fighters as terrorists for their acts but those same acts lead to the first democratic vote in 1994, only 2 years before I was born. My parents and even kids I went to school with grew up in a deeply segregated country, as second class citizens ruled by a minority who set themselves above 90 percent of the rest of the population.
My grandmother literally used to smuggle people out of and into the country. My grandfather lived most of his life in exile and his biological children have never been to his homeland. My father was part of a guerilla group. My uncle was murdered. My other uncle spent time in exile meeting with foreign powers to try organise help. My aunt grew up having to skirt around city wide riots to get to school.
Violence enacted by an oppressed group upon their oppressors isn't morally comparable to any other type of violence - it's self defence and sometimes revenge.
It's easy to peacefully protest injustice when there's an audience. But for people from oppressed groups and small countries and unimportant places violence is necessary, it's already being used against you and everyone you know. It means something. It's rage and sorrow and grief even if it seems as useless screaming into the wind to people on the outside. Nothing could ever make me think that what Jurian did was wrong, maybe Clythia was innocent but Amarantha finally felt a fraction of what the humans had.

Also on the subject of me being unnecessarily mean to people, someone asked me why I refused to buy the new P3 remake and I just replied that if I wanted a Persona game with dumbed-down gameplay I would just replay Persona 5.
#im not asking for every Persona game to have SMT levels of difficulty#but I called that they were going to dumb down Tartarus wayyyy too much and from the gameplay footage ive seen im comfortable saying i#was right#maybe if they do remakes of Persona 2 IS and EP ill consider throwing my money#only because its the best in the series and has the best cast#sloot bitches about things#and holy fuck Orpheus's awakening looks like some SFM bullshit now#and i like the new tracks a lot but theres a giant shoji meguro shaped hole in the remixes and arrangements#and its painfully obvious. like none of the remix tracks sound good to me#also the voice acting is actually pretty nice but i prefer most of the original voices#Tara Platt gave Mitsuru a commanding presence the new va doesnt have#aigis's new va misunderstood Aigis's entire portrayal and that shes supposed to be ROBOTIC. not just a monotone person#junpei/Yukari/Door-kun are easily the best. esp junpei. i prefer him actually lol#And Alex Le is clearly putting so much passion into this role. good on him#personally tho i have a...weird relationship to Sega's English localization#like in Infinite Wealth the dubbed versions was starting to piss me off bc its so different from the subbed#and when it comes to scenes like Kiryu's reason for joining the waste disposal it muddles the actual thing hes saying a lot of the time#that said sega hires very professional talented vas even if i dont always agree with their translation choices#p3r is no exception

As the MCU continues to bloat and shamble forwards, as HBO ramps up to produce a TV remake of Harry Potter, as publishing flirts with AI-produced writing, Alan Moore is looking more and more correct with each passing day.
Happy Birthday, Mr Moore, I wish you had got this one wrong.

The reason why so many people still think about the Roman Empire is because we still live in the Roman Empire. It's just a different iteration of it.
We have bread and circuses. Distractions so that we don't overthrow the corrupt government. We have corruption that has trickled down from the world leaders to every other aspect of society -- from the governments down to the schools, healthcare facilities, and entertainment industries.
And, our system is collapsing. We're all eating in excess and taking part in debauchery like people drinking wine on sinking ships.

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse
Except me, obviously. I'm an adorable bitch, not a cute rodent. I'm also like, pretty staunchly anti-theist, and social pressure to conform to religious practice bugs me.
So in retaliation for being assaulted by my arch nemesis "Jesus' Dad" the Judaism fanfic character yet again, I'm going to do a raffle to find ten holy places. I'm not picky about what religion they're holy to, just as long as they're holy.
The ones that win get Sharknado arsoned into ashes. You're welcome.
Enjoy your Mariah

If I may add to your Charlie’s arms collection, if you search ‘blind-magazine up close and personal with The Rolling Stones,’ there is an article that has another picture of Charlie in a tank top at Nellcotte from a slightly different angle. I love everything about it.
Haha, thank you for the tip:
Tumblr media
I didn't remember to include it in that thread, but I’m pretty certain this is from the Exile era as well:
Tumblr media
Charlie was often living with Keith at Nellcôte for days or weeks at a time, because his own house in the southeast of France was something like a 3 hour drive away, and the recording sessions were unpredictable, to say the least, so I do remember mentioning in one of the retrospectives that he he had his own room there and occasionally borrowed clothes from Keith. Which would explain the higher than usual instance of tank tops.
Just because I can, and I think it’s both endearing and funny, Keith’s comments on Charlie’s living situation during that era in Life contain his only criticism of him in the entire book, i.e. that he just wasn’t getting as much Charlie as he wanted:
“I remember being a little dismayed that Charlie had decided to live three hours away. I would have loved to have Charlie around the corner so I could call him and say, got an idea; can you pop by? But the way Charlie wanted to live and where he wanted to live was in fact about 130 miles away, in the Vaucluse, above Aix-en-Provence. So he would come down from Monday till Friday. So then I had him there, but I could have used a little more.”
But he’s quick to explain that, really, is was only because Charlie was too cool to be there, and he could never cramp Charlie’s style:
“To Charlie [living on the southern coast of France] it was an absolute no-no. He has an artistic temperament. It's just uncool for him to live down on the Cote d'Azur in summer. Too much society going on and too much blah blah. I can understand totally. Charlie's the kind of guy that would go down in winter when it's horrible and empty. He found where he wanted to live and it certainly wasn't on the coast, and it certainly wasn't Cannes, Nice, Juan-les-Pins, Cap Ferrat or Monte Carlo. Charlie cringes from places like that.”

“What a ridiculous clusterfuck of totally uncool jokers. I make my work about this kind of sadly foolish farce. I’m waiting for all of them to sue me for copyright infringement.”
