All this aroace character shipcourse has proven to me that a majority of people that interact in fandom cannot actually interact with characters and media outside of shipping and genuinely I believe you need to learn how to interact with media outside of shipping.
Hey if you're looking for some decent leftist critiques of AI that don't tip into scaremongering and are much more realistic about the state of the industry that I think a lot of the people discussing this stuff on tumblr are, Citations Needed and It Could Happen Here both had recent episodes about this that are pretty reasonable in their approach (their approach broadly being that the problem is capitalism and also media narratives about AI either being the end of the world or replacing all creatives are both pushed by grifters).
This is best moment in the entire show. Tbh the best moment in any cartoon I've ever watched.
I cannot explain what feeling I had the moment this happened. I never expected deaf representation in Helluva Boss of all things, but I am so glad it happened.
I immediately got extremely emotional, almost cried. I'm emotional writing this even. It typically takes a while for me to get super emotional in any scene, but this hit me immediately. No media has achieved that.
And I'm not even deaf, and no one I know personally is deaf, yet I still felt this way. I know how important this scene has to be for deaf people. It's... incredible.
Ik halsin was a last minute addition but I kinda wish he had a full romance route ngl. Like. He's not normally my type of man but I am not immune to his treetrunk arms, kindhearted gentle trustworthiness, and stupid whittling of wooden ducks. The old worn sadness in his eyes. The burden of unwanted leadership. The hundreds of years of work to correct a past percieved mistake. The unending compassion for literally everyone, but esp children & the tiefling refugees. The wanderer and free spirit who, without giving up his freedom, finally finds a purpose, a reason to stop wandering, a devoted goal for his heart. He's SAFE and KIND and I like that in a man.
Just saw someone on Twitter complain about the lack of Japanese people in Oppenheimer, and what did you expect??? Did you want the final act to be the bomb dropping and see people burning alive???
The reason why we don't see a Japanese perspective is because one, including a Japanese perspective, just to see how bad the suffering was would be exploitation. Two, to see an accurate and sensitive take on how the japanese felt about Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan (as incredible as he is) isn't the right person to do this. And three, it's based on Oppenheimer's biography
Oppenheimer, the movie, literally shows you people (mostly the superiors, because by the middle/end of it you see Oppenheimer regretting his creation) doing something dubious and inhumane because they removed themselves away, both emotionally and physically, from the people they are hurting.
Nagasaki and Hiroshima only exist in those men's distant thoughts and imaginations. One guy literally asks to take a city off the bombing because that's where he had his honeymoon. It's disturbing and unsettling, as if those people were not real human beings. The lack of Japanese people drives the entire point home.
Also, Japanese cinema is right there. Barefoot Gen, Grave of the Fireflies, or Hiroshima (responsible for showing to many Americans the effects of the bombs for the first time) are just a few of the many, many decades of post-war Japanese movies we have
I feel like the funniest interactions Din and Han could possibly have are Han being able to perfectly read what Din is thinking without him taking his armour off.
Like, Han is best friends with Chewbacca. Han has hung around aliens for the entirety of his adult life. Han has around bounty hunters for the entirety of his adult life. Han definitely knows what Din is thinking.
Anyway it’s really funny because I imagine it like:
Han: “Don’t look at me like that! It isn’t my fault!”
Din:
Han: “Don’t go trying to guilt trip me, it won’t work.”
Din:
Han: “Gah! Fine! It’s my fault. Happy now?”
Din:
Han: “I swear, you’ve got a kicked loth cat face that rivals the kid’s…”
I was really in the mood to do some masquerade fanart, but I didn’t feel like coming up with anything original, so here’s some of my favorite (...slightly paraphrased) bits from the first part. I don’t know where it’s going, but it’s pretty fun so far!
also one that isn’t canon except in my heart:
(disclaimer that this is a Joke)
(he is a horrible little rat man, but to be fair, so is everyone else)
(if you don’t like horrible little rat men why are you even playing this game)
No offense but I want Hunter to brag about him and willow next episode I don't care how out of character it is.
I want Eda to exorcise Belos out of puppet!Raine's body and for Hunter to stand over the shambling, melting corpse of the man who abused him and scream "you think you could hurt me? You think you could keep me down? Kill me? WELL YOU CAN'T. AND I HOPE YOU KNOW THAT AFTER I AROSE FROM THE GRAVE, I GOT A GIRLFRIEND. WE HELD HANDS FOR 3 WHOLE SECONDS. YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT, 3! YOU TRIED TO LEAVE MY BODY RIDDLED WITH SCARS??? JOKES ON YOU! SHE THINKS THAT'S HOT!!!!!! HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES, "UNCLE"???!!!!!" With Zeno doing his best unhinged hunter voice as Caleb fucking Fortnite dances in the background and Belos thrashes about in pain at the mention of premarital hand holding
During my mini hiatus I fulfilled my dream of visiting Norway! The most surprising thing was hearing Lithuanian being spoken literally everywhere. My mum and I always speak Lithuanian to each other, so it was incredibly bizarre for people to overhear us and then come speak with us, or to have waiters/shopkeepers switch from English to Lithuanian. I’ve never experienced anything like it before, and I had no idea so many Lithuanians live in Norway! I absolutely ADORED this, it made all the places we visited instantly feel like home. Despite all that, I learned a bit of Norwegian and discovered that it’s literally the cutest language. Language learning is absolutely wonderful
