ROUND 1B, MATCH 16 OUT OF 16!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*Though I am referring to her as Popelka, her original name in Czech, she is also often referred to as Aschenbrödel, her German name. Additionally, Three Wishes for Cinderella is the English title (with an alternate localized title being Three Gifts for Cinderella). The original Czech title, Tři oříšky pro Popelku, and the German title Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel both are translated as Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella. All names and titles have been tagged. Any local Czech or German speakers feel free to correct me for any mistakes! :)
Propaganda Under the Cut:
Danielle:
This is, imo, the single best retelling of Cinderella out there. She has a great character, her relationship with the prince grows organically rather than happening in a single night, and the scene with the bandits is top tier
The story is told as a historical romance instead of anything supernatural happening. Drew Barrymore is a cute Cinderella, Anjelica Houston is an incredible stepmother, and she's also really nasty to one of the stepsisters too, who ends up taking Danielle (Cinderella)'s side. Also Leonardo da Vinci is hanging around painting a portrait of Danielle at one point.
The Drew Barrymore Cinderella is fantastic. It’s got real history mixed with beautiful whimsy! I absolutely love the butterfly wings and how she spoke up for her step mother and sister at the end (and that they were still punished). I feel like I need to go watch it now.
she’s funny and smart and she’s resourceful (also her outfits are historically accurate!)
Popelka:
She has so much personality. She's funny, smart, kind, has a lot of spunk, and she really does things instead of just waiting for miracles to occur. Also, she's a great rider and has a deadly aim with bow and arrow.
She finds three hazelnuts that grant her wishes by giving the clothes to do what she wants. Beautiful dresses. The prince puts a ring on her finger while she’s in her huntsman’s outfit.
I don't know how it's faring in modern day Czechia, but here in Germany, Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel is still THE (non-Disney) Cinderella adaptation and a yearly rewatch for many, despite literally turning fifty this year. It's just so fairytale and also just... good? And she hangs out in the woods and shoots with a crossbow and saves deer and gives the prince riddles and then the music aaa the music!! I guess this isn't just a submission of this version of the character but this version of the story. For those who don't know: This adaptation is based on a Czech author's retelling of the Grimm version of the story, the film was a co-production of Czechoslovakia and East Germany and it slaps so hard it gets played at least 10 times (usually more) on public german television in and around December every single year. This is not an exaggeration, you can look it up, they even make a special, official info graphic with all the air dates every year that people can (and do!) share on social media. In Germany, the main event of Christmas is the 24th, Christmas eve, and on that day they play it at least 4 times (often more) at different times of the day on different public channels (ALL of which any German with a hooked up tv has access to) so anyone who wants to watch it gets a chance to. And Aschenbrödel herself in the movie STILL holds up as a (within reasonable expectations) feminist character, she's skilled, she's smart, she's witty, she and the prince actually talk and they like each other for their personalities, like... yes, there's a couple of flaws with the movie that time has pointed out, but mostly small, background things or things you simply cannot expect a movie from 1973 to get right. It's SO well made and just plain charming, it has truly stood the test of time and I would be devastated if it weren't included. It's also my mum's favourite movie (she's from East Germany and was born in 1969 so she's had regular access to it basically all her conscious life) so we would actually usually watch it multiple times each year and even record it (first on VHS, later again on DVD) so we could rewatch it any time and yet, I literally never got tired of it. It's just good & magical & I love it. Even my brother, who usually didn't care for fairytale movies at all and would much rather play video games in his room, would come down and sit with us to watch this one, THAT'S how good and magical this movie is.
And if all that hasn't convinced you yet but you speak German, here it is on YouTube, go watch it:
[Link]
(I won't provide a Czech link since I can't vouch for any of them as I don't speak czech)
Anyway, dear tournament runner: Have a pic of Aschenbrödel, in my favourite of her magically provided outfits, for the poll:
[Link]
She is the Cinderella of like eastern central Europe and the Story is a little different (she's no. 1 girlboss, beats the prince in a shooting contest and instead of a fairy she has 3 magic hazelnuts/ a magic owl)

Imagine Andrew and "who did this to you" trope. He would be so sweet and protective of you. If someone who hurt you try to get close he would destroy them 😭
MY GIRL - ANDREW GARFIELD
Tumblr media
DESCRIPTION I when a man put his hands on you, andrew knows it's time to tell you you are more than best friend for him
PAIRING I Andrew Garfield x female!reader
WORD COUNT I 2k
A/N I When I got your ask I knew I wanted to write a story around this ask (being sick this weekend didn't help), I really hope you will love it sweetie!
WARNING I mention of assault
Tumblr media
You didn’t even know why you were here.
Actually, yes, you did. Because Andrew didn’t want to come here by himself and you agreed to accompany him at the party. If it wasn’t for him, you would have never left your blanket and your tv.
It wasn’t that you didn’t like to party. You loved that. But you had just come home from a shooting in Vancouver that you thought would never end. Being a reputed makeup was great until you missed your bed more than anything. Or maybe just as much as you were missing your best friend. Good thing you were living next door, in the same building.
It was Andrew’s idea, after you broke up with your boyfriend who kept the apartment. The one next to Andrew’s place was free and he immediately thought about you. It was almost like a house-share since you were always in each other’s apartment, eating together or watching movies.
While you were away, Andrew broke up with his last girlfriend. You knew that, even if it wasn’t too serious, he wasn’t feeling that good about being alone again at almost forty. No matter how many times you tried to tell him that it was ok and that he shouldn’t be feel miserable about being single, you knew he wanted to find the right person. And sometimes you wished he looked at you a little more to find it…
So, when you came back yesterday and he told you about this party organized by a famous magazine, you had no other choice than say ok. “But promise me we won’t stay too long; I need to recover my sleep, Andy.”
“I promise you, Cinderella, at midnight you will be back in your pajamas.” You laughed at him. What could you say, your Spiderman pajamas he offered you last Christmas was probably the most comfortable piece of clothes you owned. If you could, you would spend your whole life in it.
But right now, it wasn’t about a comfortable outfit but looking good next to your best friend who was considered one of the hottest single men in Hollywood. It was probably the only thing you didn’t like about going out with Andrew: you had to deal with women trying to get him in their bed. Not that you were jealous…wrong, you were jealous. But you just didn’t appreciate feeling invisible when he was around. Some of them didn’t even try to talk to you when you were literally holding his arm.
Thankfully, Andrew always managed to find a way to make you feel seen. Almost like you were the only woman he was really looking at in the end.
You were giving some of those women dead look while they were looking at Andrew. You were so focus on them you didn’t even notice him coming closer to you. “You look beautiful tonight by the way.” He whispered in your ear and suddenly, all the hate you had in you disappeared. You gave him a kiss on the cheek to thank him, which made him blush like always. And then you had to rub your finger on his skin to make your lipstick go away. “You didn’t have to mark your territory.” He laughed and you considered giving him another kiss to put more lipstick on him.
“Sorry, just a habit.” You replied, shrugging. You noticed how he rolled his eyes to contain his laugh. Everything was so easy with him; you really wished you could have the strength to tell him how you feel. But at the same time, there was this fear of losing the only person that mattered in this city. Without Andrew, you would have come back home without a hesitation. He was your cornerstone; you couldn’t imagine a life without talking to him every single day. Without being able to ring at his door at midnight because you saw a movie that made you cry.
But you didn’t want to think about that. “I’ll go grabbing a drink.” You said to him right when one of his costars from his last project came to you. Andrew simply nodded and held your hand tighter for a second. His way of saying be careful and come back to me.
You had a hard time walking to the bar with all those groups of celebrities that thought they were too important to move away. You needed a drink to forget about all these people around you.
While you were waiting for your drinks to come, you felt a hand on your back. There was only one person who would even think about touching you like that. And the thing was, you could perfectly see Andrew from where you were. So, you turned around to face the man that decided he could do what he wanted. “Hi, beauty.” He had the audacity to say with a big smile on his face.
“Could you consider, I don’t know… take your hand away?” You tried to sound as polite as possible to not make a mess and not embarrass Andrew. But this was definitely something you hated, the way some people forget that you are, yourself, a human being that maybe doesn’t want to be touched or talked to. Maybe consent wasn’t taught in every school.
“Why? We could have some great time together!” You had no idea if it was making this worse, but you recognized the guy as one of the main actors in a popular teen show. It was degusting to think some girls were probably idolizing this guy when he was just…a pig. You hated how he whispered this in your man, like Andrew did earlier, to get closer to you.
At the same time, the barman put your drinks on the bar. The perfect timing for you to leave and forget about that awful meeting. But when you took the drinks in your hand, a sign that you were ready to move, the guy hold you tighter and closer to him. “Don’t leave already…” he was too close to your neck, too close to kiss you, too close for too much possibility. You tried to escape from his grip, but he was much stronger than you.
Because of this, your drinks just spilled on you.
Like in every good movie, everyone stopped talking when it happened to look at you. Of course, the guy who couldn’t leave his hands out of you decided it was the right time to finally go away. Leaving you alone with your now empty-glasses and alcohol on your clothes. “Sorry” you mumbled to the barman before putting the glasses back on the bar. You walked directly to Andrew, looking at your feet to avoid any eye contact. Weirdly, where he was standing felt like a whole other party where nobody cared about what happened.
“You’re back…what happened?” Andrew put his hands on your shoulders to look at you. It wasn’t like you were the happiest to be here before, but you seemed absolutely desperate and fretful. He knew something was wrong. And when you tried to escape this conversation, he put a finger underneath your chin to lift your head up. “Talk to me, love.”
“Nothing, just a guy who forgot his manners at home.” You tried to make this less important than it was. For a simple good reason, you knew Andrew way too well to predict how he was going to react.
“What? Who did this to you?” his tone changed immediately, and you couldn’t tell he was already ready to question everyone in this room to know who had the audacity to hurt his best-friend. You tried to convince him to let this go but your voice was even reaching his ears. “Nobody is touching my girl like that, understood?”
Before you had the chance to answer, you were too surprised by the “my girl” thing to find the right words anyway, Andrew took you by the hand and guided you around the room. You didn’t want to go back there or see that guy. You had enough for the night. So, you had to put all your strength in your arm to stop Andrew from walking. “Let it go Andy!” of course, you didn’t anticipate that you would meet his chest when he stops. But it was even more perfect. You looked at him with small eyes and tiredness. “I just want to go home, please.”
Andrew looked around the room one more time before nodding. He held your hand tighter before leading you out. In the taxi back home, you were telling home short stories about your trip in Vancouver. You were cuddling in his arms and after what happened tonight, you felt safer than ever. Especially when he was brushing your hair with some tenderness. Why couldn’t you have that all the time?
It wasn’t until you were back home, and Andrew asked to stay at your place because he didn’t want to leave you alone, that you talked about what happened again. Of course, you were in the bathroom removing your makeup while he was laying in your living room. Making sure he couldn’t see how much you cared about that and how much you cared about him. “Thank you…for trying to protect him there. I just didn’t want you to be embarrassed for doing something stupid or…”
“Why would I be embarrassed for protecting you? I would do that without a hesitation at any event.”
“Even the Oscars?” you asked, just putting your head out of the room to look at him. He laughed, because you looked too cute with half of your face still covered in makeup. “Even the Oscars.” You went back to the bathroom quickly so he wouldn’t see you blushing. Because of that, you didn’t hear him come here either.
“I would do anything for you.” Andrew said, putting his arms around your shoulder and his chin on the top of your head. “When are you going to understand you’re the most important person in my life?” the way he was looking right into your eyes through the mirror felt like he was trying to say something more. Like there was a deeper meaning in his words. You turned your head to look at him and notice how his eyes went down on your lips.
“The most important one, hm?” you whispered, getting your face closer to his. These next seconds would be decisive for the future of your relationship. If Andrew moved backwards, you would know he didn’t feel the same. If he looks surprised, you interpreted the whole situation wrong. But if he didn’t all those things, then…
“The one.” He replied before putting his lips on yours. It was exactly like you imagined it to be, soft and passionate. Andrew slowly brought a hand to your face to caress your cheek while he was exploring your mouth more and more. When your back hit the sink, he decided to lift you up and sit you on it. This way he could get between your legs and kiss you even deeper.
“I wanted to do this for so long…” he whispered against your lips, almost biting it. You took his face in your hands and looked at him. Andrew was a man that was speaking with his face and that night, you could see all the hidden love he had for you finally showing on his beautiful feature. From the way his eyes were shinning to his blushing cheeks and his pure smile. And you hope he could see all your feelings too.
“I hope you don’t kiss all your neighbors like that when I’m away.” You laughed, playing with his hair. He laughed back and put a single kiss on your lips, making up for all the lost time he wasn’t kissing you.
“You’re the only one. Just like you’re the only one I would beat a guy for. Nobody touches my girl, ok?” he put his forehead against yours, like he was trying to put his thoughts in your mind. Like you needed that to convince yourself you were all his.
You were his way before tonight. And it felt good to know from now on that you would always have Andrew by your side. All the time.

ThemThere Thursday - 02 - BBC Ghosts
Title: Certainty [AO3]
Characters: Thomas/Nigel, Mick
Idea: After the panto, Nigel wishes he could have shared a dance with Thomas. Mick takes it upon himself to help him make that dream come true.
A/N: This is a very self-indulgent Norne sequel to the 2022 Christmas Special that I've been itching to write ever since the special aired. I hope you (aka the 2.5 people out there who enjoy my Norne fics - love you!) will like this fluffy Christmas story.
Prompts are open, so if you want me to write a story for you just send me an ask with the fandom, characters and your prompt. I’m writing for Ghosts, Yonderland, Horrible Histories and Bill at the moment.
————
Certainty
“He looked lovely up on that stage, didn’t he? So … charming! I wish I could have shared a dance with him.”
Nigel’s wistful sigh was met with several groans.
“Are you still going on about that good-for-nothing poet?” Geoff’s wife asked him with a roll of her eyes that rubbed Nigel the wrong way.
“So what if I am?” he asked, crossing his arms in front of his chest. “Need I remind you that only a few months ago, you were fancying him too?”
Geoff’s wife stopped so abruptly in the middle of the stairs he nearly ran into her. She turned around to level him with a look. “Yeah, but unlike you I grew out of it.”
With that, she lifted her nose a little higher and continued on her way. Nigel stared after her while the others shouldered past him. Some, like Jean, were giving him pitying looks as they walked down the stairs; others muttered in not so subtle annoyance about him being in their way. None of them stopped except for Walter, and he only paused to look Nigel up and down and say, “No offence, Nigel, but you’re not exactly Cinderella material. Thomas probably doesn’t even know you exist.”
He huffed out a laugh that held no warmth, amused by his own words, before he followed the others down to the basement.
Nigel let his arms fall to his side and remained where he was: standing in the middle of the stairs. He suddenly did not feeling like going down to the basement anymore. It wasn’t anger that made him ball his hands into fists, though; it was disappointment. Was it really too much to ask of his mates, his family for all intents and purposes, to support him? He didn’t need Walter to know he would never have a chance with someone like Thomas. Nigel was very much aware of his own deficits. But that didn’t mean he couldn’t dream, did it?
And how he dreamed. The others had no idea what it was like to spend not only their lives but also their deaths – literal eternity – alone, always on the outside looking in. They’d all had husbands, wives, children. Some of their loved ones might have already moved on but that didn’t change the fact that all of them had once been loved wholeheartedly and unconditionally by someone else.
Nigel had never been loved like that. He’d had exactly one single drunken kiss behind the tavern once before fear of discovery had forced him and the other man apart and to hurry to go on their separate ways. Under different circumstances that kiss might have blossomed into something more but it hadn’t. It had barely scratched the surface of what could be, barely satisfied Nigel’s curiosity, and the need it had been meant to satiate had only grown worse after that. Dying had not changed that in the slightest. On the contrary, it had made him even more desperate to experience what seemed to come so easily to everyone else. He wanted someone to look at him like Jean and Geoff looked at each other when they thought no one was watching them. He wanted the kind of love that Alison and Mike shared, a love so deep it allowed them to be silly around each other without fear of being judged. He wanted to fall asleep the way his parents used to, with a kiss goodnight and the promise of a kiss good morning when the sun rose.
He wanted so much, and he wanted it all with Thomas.
It was a recipe for heartbreak and disaster – Nigel knew that – but the heart wanted what it wanted, and his was set on Thomas. It had been for a while now. The portrait situation might have just been a passing fancy for the others but for him, it had opened a door to a deeper yearning, one that went beyond soft locks and pretty brown eyes. He longed to spend time with Thomas, longed to get to know him, to understand how his mind worked and make sense of the poems he liked to recite so passionately.
It would always remain just that, however: a longing, quiet and unfilled. Some dreams just weren’t meant to come true and Nigel’s had always firmly fallen into that category. It was something he had made peace with a long time ago.
A light touch on his shoulder drew him out of his thoughts.
“For what it’s worth I think Walter’s wrong,” Mick told him softly, his lips pulling up into a smile. “You’d make a fabulous Cinderella.”
Unexpectedly, Nigel felt his eyes burn. “Thank you, Mick. That’s very kind of you to say.”
“I also think you should ask Thomas for a dance,” Mick added. When Nigel blinked at him in stunned silence, he shrugged and said, “How is he supposed to know you want to dance with him if you don’t tell him? You’ll never have a chance to win his heart if you stay in the basement all the time and refuse to talk to him.”
“I’ll never have a chance either way,” Nigel muttered, looking away.
Mick tilted his head in confusion. “Why not?”
Nigel gave him an incredulous look. “Have you looked at me lately? I’m riddled with plague sores, Mick. And even if I weren’t – I can’t even share Thomas’s biggest passion with him because I can’t read. Thomas would never be attracted to me.”
That’s what he told himself at last, every time he felt the tiniest bit of hope flare up in his heart lest it turn into a devouring flame.
“You could learn to read,” Mick said, eternally optimistic. “Alison helped Mary, didn’t she? She could help you as well. Oh, or Thomas could! You could ask him!”
Nigel shook his head. “I’m not going to ask him anything, Mick. I’m going down to the basement, get some sleep and forget all about this silly dream of mine.”
Mick frowned. “But … don’t you at least want to try? I mean, what’s the worst that could happen?”
He might say no, Nigel thought. He will say no.
“He’s not going to laugh at you if that’s what you’re worried about,” Mick went on, unaware of his thoughts. “He knows what that feels like and wouldn’t do that to you.”
“You sound awfully sure of that for someone who doesn’t even know him,” Nigel pointed out.
Mick shrugged. “I see and hear things, you know? When I go upstairs to talk with the Captain.” His eyes suddenly widened in a way that told Nigel he’d just had an idea that probably wasn’t going to bode well for him. “That’s it! I’ll come with you! Help you find him and be your wingmate or what’s-it-called!”
“Oh, no,” Nigel said, shaking his head and instinctively taking a step backwards, nearly sending himself stumbling down the stairs. “Definitely not.”
But Mick only nodded more excitedly. “Yes! I’ll help you get your dance with Prince Charming tonight! I’ll even ask him for you so you won’t have to.”
Before Nigel had a chance to protest, Mick grabbed hold of his wrist and pulled him back upstairs to the room with the stage. When they found it empty – thank god – Nigel breathed a sigh of relief. Mick, however, didn’t let that deter him. “Mhm. They said something about presents, didn’t they?”
“Which means they’ll probably be busy, Mick,” Nigel tried to intervene again. “It might be better if we came back tomorrow and–“
Mick let go of his hand and turned to face him. “Why are you so against this?”
Nigel heaved a heavy sigh. “Because right now, I can at least still dream about this. About him and me. About a dance. Tomorrow, I might have nothing.”
He let his head hang in defeat
“You’re wrong,” Mick said quietly, causing Nigel to look up at him. Mick’s face was more serious than he had ever seen it when he said, “You won’t have nothing. You’ll have certainty, and that’s worth an awful lot, Nigel.”
Unable to hold his gaze, Nigel dropped his eyes back to the floor. Mick wasn’t putting it into words but Nigel knew exactly what he was referring to. They had all been there that day when Mick’s younger sister hadn’t come home from picking berries, had all helped him and his family search the woods and meadows and even the neighbouring villages for her to no success. She had simply disappeared. Mick had spent a whole month searching for and ended up finding not a single trace of her anywhere, not even one tiny clue as to what might have happened to her. A bear or a pack of wolves? An abduction? An accident? Mick and his family never found out and Nigel knew it drove Mick crazy to this day.
“I’m sorry,” he murmured softly. “I didn’t mean to–“
“I know,” Mick sighed. He placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder, always quick to forgive. “I just – I don’t want that for you, Nigel. The constant questioning. The what-ifs. Having to settle for dreams. You deserve more than that.”
So do you, Nigel thought sadly, knowing Mick had no hope of ever getting that. He, however, had, for better or worse, and maybe – maybe Mick was right: maybe it would be better to know, to make his peace with the inevitable rejection and move on.
Nigel exhaled slowly and managed to give Mick a small smile. “Where shall we look next?”
Mick beamed at him before he began pulling him through the house in search of Thomas once again.
It was the soft sound of humming that eventually led them to yet another beautifully decorated room, and to Thomas standing under a pair of headphones, gently swaying and humming along to some music Nigel and Mick couldn’t hear with his eyes closed in bliss. There was no one in the room with him, and he looked so relaxed and at peace, lost in his own world of sound, that Nigel found himself – not exactly getting cold feet, but rather not inclined to destroy what looked like a perfect moment with his selfish request.
“We better leave him be,” he whispered, turning to look at Mick – who was already crossing the room towards Thomas. Before Nigel could hold him back, Mick reached out to tap Thomas’s shoulder. Thomas, unaware he wasn’t alone anymore, jumped in sudden shock and instinctively covered his wound with his hand as if he had just been shot again.
“What do you think you’re doing, sir?” he rasped out, looking so badly shaken that Nigel winced in sympathy as Thomas flinched away from Mick’s touch. “Going around scaring people like that – on Christmas Day, nonetheless!”
“Sorry,” Mick mumbled apologetically. He lowered his head for a brief moment before he barrelled on, completely unperturbed. “Can I ask you a question?”
Thomas gave him a pointed look.
“You just did,” he pointed out. When Mick continued to stare at him he rolled his eyes and, waving his hands about, said, “Fine, fine. Go ahead.”
“Would you dance with Nigel?”
For the first time since they’d entered the room Thomas’s eyes flicked over to Nigel. Nigel shyly waved at him and breathed out a hoarse little, “Hi,” somehow managing not to fidget nervously under Thomas’s stare. There was a furrow between Thomas’s brows as he looked at him, as if he couldn’t quite figure out why Nigel was here or why Mick had asked him such a peculiar question. Then his eyes suddenly widened in understanding.
“Oh, you want to learn the steps so you can ask Kitty for a dance!” he said with a knowing nod. “Taken a fancy to her, haven’t you? Can’t say I blame you. She made a radiant Cinderella.”
He smiled at the memory of the panto and Nigel exchanged a panicked look with Mick. He’s got it all wrong! What am I supposed to do now?
He should have known Mick’s solution would not be helpful.
“Nigel would make a wonderful Cinderella as well,” Mick said, only too happily.
Thomas went very still. He blinked at Mick for a very long moment, and when Mick eagerly nodded in Nigel’s direction, Thomas turned to face him once more. The wide-eyed look on his face made Nigel immediately wish for the ground to open up beneath him and swallow him whole.
“You … want to be Cinderella?” Thomas asked slowly as if he wasn’t quite sure he had understood Mick correctly. “And you want to dance … with me?”
His disbelieving tone made Nigel glance guiltily at his shoes – a confession in and of itself.
“Oh,” Thomas breathed out softly. “So it isn’t Kitty who has caught your eye. It’s–“
Unable to hear the truth put so plainly into words, Nigel interrupted him. “I’m sorry. This was a mistake. Mick, we should go.”
Ignoring Mick’s protests, he grabbed him by the arm and began to pull him out of the room. They should have never come here – that much was very clear to him now. Only an idiot would have let Mick – someone who tended to be hopelessly optimistic about these things – talk himself into this foolish plan and risk everything on romantic hope. Walter had been right all along. Nigel was not Cinderella material, wasn’t even worth a second glance, let alone–
“Wait,” Thomas suddenly called from behind him. Nigel’s spiralling thoughts came to an abrupt halt and he froze. “Please, Nigel, just … wait.”
Nigel had never heard his name spoken by those lips before. The sound, painfully soft and vulnerable, made his heart flutter so desperately that he found his legs trembling under him as he turned to face Thomas. He was barely aware of Mick twisting himself out of his grasp and slowly backing away through the door to give them space as he took in the lost expression on Thomas’s face.
“I don’t understand,” Thomas admitted after a beat of silence, sounding just as lost as he looked. “You … you did not like my poetry. Why would you want to dance with me and not Kitty?”
“I didn’t understand your poetry,” Nigel corrected him gently. “But I wanted to, Thomas. Very much so.”
“Oh,” Thomas whispered. “I … I thought everyone’s infatuation was just about my–“ He gestured at his face, the message clear. Then his shoulders fell and he looked away. “Not that I would understand that either, what with my–“
He left that sentence hanging as well as he self-consciously covered his wound once more with his hand. Nigel didn’t know what exactly he’d expected Thomas’s reaction to be to his feelings but it certainly wasn’t the revelation that Thomas believed himself to be both unattractive and unloveable. It broke Nigel’s heart – even more so when he realised that he too had played a part in that by allowing himself to get caught up in everyone’s frustration during the recital. In hindsight, it seemed awfully clear now that Thomas had been desperate for someone to appreciate him when he stood in front of them and performed his poem, to appreciate the parts of him that everyone else, himself included, deemed unworthy. It made Nigel wish he had reacted differently that day.
“I’m sorry,” he said softly, taking a tentative step closer. When Thomas glanced up, a questioning look in his eyes, he said, “I wish you could see yourself through my eyes.”
“I would still only see a man who thinks himself a poet but has never been anything else but a fool,” Thomas said quietly, unable to meet his gaze.
Nigel shook his head and took another step towards him. “No. You’d see a man who doesn’t give up, no matter how cruel the world is to him.”
“So a man who doesn’t know when to stop, then.” Then Thomas added bitterly, “You know what Julian and the Captain would call that? Pathetic.”
“I was rather thinking he was very brave,” Nigel whispered.
Thomas met his eyes.
“Brave?” he hesitantly asked. When Nigel nodded, he let out a nervous chuckle. “No one’s ever called me that before. I … I suppose you do like me?”
He phrased it as a question, so trembling and hopeful that Nigel couldn’t lie to him, even knowing that the truth might cost him his dreams.
“Yes – very much so,” he admitted, unable to stop nervously fiddling with his hair. “And in case it wasn’t clear: I think you’re quite handsome, too. Wound or no wound.”
Two spots of colour formed high on Thomas’s cheek. Slowly, his eyes never leaving Nigel’s face, he lowered his hand from his wound. When Nigel offered him a reassuring smile, Thomas’s lips twitched up into a shy smile of his own and oh, Nigel thought as his heart quickened its pace. That smile was just for him. No one had ever looked at him like that before, all soft and gentle and like the sky was in his eyes. It felt wonderful.
Then, to his surprise, Thomas bowed before him and held out his hand. “May I have this dance?”
For a moment, Nigel forgot how to breathe. Feeling his own cheeks burn, he placed a shaking hand in Thomas’s. Thomas’s fingers wrapped around his with infinite gentleness, effectively stilling the tremors with his touch. His skin was warm – something that shouldn’t be possible since ghosts could feel neither heat nor cold, not like this – but before Nigel could revel in the sensation Thomas carefully pulled him into the middle of the room where he guided Nigel’s other hand to his shoulder and wrapped his own arm around Nigel’s back in a secure hold. Warmth bloomed all over Nigel’s body. He couldn’t actually remember the last time he had felt so alive.
“Is this all right?” Thomas whispered into the small space between them.
Nigel breathed out a laugh. “All my dreams are coming true right now – of course it’s all right!”
Smiling, Thomas bit his lip. “We haven’t even started dancing yet.”
So they did. The steps were easy enough to follow: take a step back with the left foot, step to the side and bring both feet back together. Then do the same forward, starting with the right foot this time. It didn’t take long until Thomas had them dancing around the room in gentle circles that started to feel so natural after a while that Nigel stopped worrying about his feet and gazed up at Thomas’s face instead to enjoy the moment.
“I actually feel a bit like Cinderella right now,” he admitted, unable to stop smiling.
Thomas’s hold on his hand tightened in reply as he twirled him out of his arms and pulled him back in a moment later. Nigel laughed and missed a step. Stumbling against Thomas, he suddenly found himself looking up at crinkly eyes full of warmth. “You’re a natural.”
“Clearly,” Nigel snorted, and they began anew.
He couldn’t say afterwards when exactly Thomas had begun to hum a gentle waltz for them to dance to or when he himself had closed his eyes and let himself to be guided by Thomas’s hands and voice alone, but he knew the spell was broken when the old grandfather clock downstairs chimed midnight. They slowly swayed to a stop in the middle of the room and, after a slight moment of hesitation, awkwardly stepped out of each other’s arms.
“Bit cliché, really, to stop at midnight,” Thomas noted quietly.
“Well, you wouldn’t want to see Cinderella in her peasant rags,” Nigel said softly, only half-joking.
For the first time since his earlier confession, the smile fell from Thomas’s face. His eyes dropped to Nigel’s cowl before he said, very quietly, “You know I don’t mind that – the class difference – don’t you?”
“I – I wasn’t sure,” Nigel answered truthfully.
“Well, I don’t. Not at all,” Thomas said. He took a deep breath, looking nervous all of a sudden. “I also wouldn’t mind sharing another dance with you.”
He sounded hopeful – actually hopeful – and for a moment, Nigel could do nothing but stare at him in stunned silence. His dreams had always ended at this point: with a dance, a touch and, if he felt particularly lonely and in need of comfort, a kiss goodbye. He’d never dared to dream of more and here Thomas was, offering him exactly that: the chance to get to know each other.
With his heart in his throat, Nigel managed to smile up at him. “Neither would I.”
“Good,” Thomas said, looking relieved. “That’s … that’s good.”
Nigel’s smile softened. Gathering up his courage, he asked, “See you tomorrow, then?”
Thomas nodded. “Eight o’clock? Same place?”
“Perfect,” Nigel breathed. “Well, I better get going, then. The others will be wondering where I am.”
“I imagine they will,” Thomas said softly before he bowed once more. “Goodnight, Nigel, and thank you for the dance.”
“Thank you for indulging me,” Nigel smiled. “Goodnight, Thomas.”
He was almost at the door when Thomas addressed him once more. “Nigel?”
Nigel turned around. Thomas looked so lovely in the warm glow of the Christmas lights that he feared his heart might beat out of his chest. “Yes?”
“Merry Christmas,” Thomas said shyly.
“Merry Christmas, Thomas.”
It took all of Nigel’s willpower to tear his eyes away from Thomas’s face and not skip out of the room in the same manner his sister had when her not-yet husband had kissed her for the very first time. Mick was waiting for him outside in the hallway, an expectant look on his face. When Nigel smiled and nodded, Mick grinned and pulled him into a heartfelt hug. “I told you Walter was wrong!”
Unable to hold his joy inside any longer, Nigel laughed.

Gavin Creel is 47 today!
It’s my yearly tradition to bring back this old post of ranked performances to celebrate the birthday of this wonderful performer, so here we go! Updated this year with Into the Woods!
Gavin Creel, 16 performances, ranked!
16. Nick Piazza in Fame
Tumblr media
This show has some merits, although it’s definitely not one of my favorites. It’s Gavin’s professional debut, and I can forgive him some naïveté in an otherwise competent, beautifully sung performance. His rendition of “I wanna make magic” is lovely.
15. Charles Darnay in A Tale of Two Cities
Tumblr media
Ok, so this was a concert performance, so it’s not really fair to compare it to the others, but I’ll just throw it in here. Mainly because it’s such an unusual show for Gavin. It’s something that tries very hard to be on the level of Les Miserables, without much success, and Gavin is not a huge fan of that kind of show. That said, it’s a nicely sung performance of a classic romantic hero role. Nice, nothing more.
14. Jean-Michel in La Cage Aux Folles
Tumblr media
Great show, poor but still competent production. The role is easily the most boring in the whole play, but he gets to sing the cute “With Anne on my arm” and he nails it.
13. Troy in American Horror Stories
Tumblr media
Oh this was a fun one, Gavin playing outside his comfort zone, far removed from his preferred genre and into an over-the-top, sexy role that is rather unique in his career. I wish the material he had to work with was better, but his scenes with Aaron Tveit were superb.
12. Hollis Bessemer in Bounce
Tumblr media
Sadly a lesser show by Sondheim, I still love some aspects of it, and Gavin’s wide-eyed artistically-inclined dreamer is one of them. His big solo “Talent” is the best song of the show and touches me on a very personal level.
11. Matthews in Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure
Tumblr media
Gavin voicing a Disney villain! A Disney villain with a secret! A Disney villain with a French accent! Talk about playing against type. There’s something of Kodaly here, and of Lumiere and of Pepé Le Pew. You can tell he had a blast recording this role, and the design is exquisite.
10. Cinderella’s Prince / The Wolf in Into the Woods
Tumblr media
This is Gavin at his hammiest, and I’m here fot it. He obviously has loads of fun with the Wolf, oozing sleaziness from every pore, and as the Prince he’s perfectly balanced between superficial, phony and clueless, you can really believe that this candy-colors clothed fool was “raised to be charming, not sincere.”
9. Bill in Eloise at the Plaza / Eloise at Christmastime
Tumblr media
Effortlessly hilarious on screen as he is on stage, he goes full-on old-time Hollywood star in the Christmas-themed sequel and I love it. A mix of Dick Powell and Fred Astaire.
8. Dr. Pomatter in Waitress
Tumblr media
Sara Bareilles’ little gem of a musical often finds its strength in the absolute realness of its characters, flawed human beings looking for a little sparkle of happiness. Drew Gehling’s Dr. Pomatter was awkward and fun and sad-eyed, but I think Gavin wins infusing the character with tenderness and truly lived-in melancholy. A few weeks in a well-worn musical could be seen as a footnote in a great career, but it’s such a lovely performance, enhanced by the incredible chemistry he has with Bareilles.
7. Bert in Mary Poppins
Tumblr media
My introduction to Gavin and since then I’ve come to appreciate him as heir to impossibly gangly male leads like Dick Van Dyke, so this feels like such a natural fit. I find the show a little bloated, but watch him defying gravity in that “walking on air” scene: it’s irresistible.
6. Ugly in Honk!
Tumblr media
Having him play the ugly duckling ALSO feels like a natural fit. Gavin’s at his best when he plays lost and confused dreamers, and the fairy tale touch with the surreal setting makes for a wonderful variation on that theme.
5. Steven Kodaly in She Loves Me
Tumblr media
Easily the odd man out of the list. The evil, scheming, suave and self-centered Kodaly is a delightful departure from all the romantic leads and clueless buffoons of Gavin’s career. The showstopper “Ilona” brings out all the manipulative nature of the character, a snake that always finds a way out and always gets what he wants. A remarkable performance that makes me want to see him branch out into even more strange territories.
4. Jimmy Smith in Thoroughly Modern Millie
Tumblr media
Again with the old-time charm and humor. Millie is a show dominated by women, and Gavin’s male romantic lead manages not to be swallowed whole by them by being so wonderfully easy-going, hilariously aloof and occasionally sassy. It does also help that in “What do I need with love” he has one of the catchiest numbers of the show.
3. Cornelius Hackl in Hello, Dolly!
Tumblr media
PUDDING. That alone deserved the Tony. It’s an overwhelmingly funny turn that makes the best of the original, almost vaudevillian nature of the show. So full of tricks and ticks and winks to the audience, deliciously aware of its own absurdity, it’s the kind of scene-stealing performance that not every actor can pull off. And oh my god, has anyone ever sung Jerry Herman’s beautiful tunes so gorgeously? You almost wish he could have sung “Put on your Sunday clothes” in its entirety.
2. Elder Price in The Book of Mormon
Tumblr media
Somewhere between the rubber-faced humor of Jim Carrey, the earnest straight man hilarity of Jack Lemmon and the physicality of Dick Van Dyke. A perfect combination that captures the sarcastic, yet disarmingly sweet nature of the show, with its hints of meanness and self-devouring doubt.
1. Claude Hooper Bukowski in Hair
Tumblr media
Unquestionably the masterpiece of Gavin’s career. A towering performance that starts with the iconicity of the role and the visuals associated with it and finds the core of Claude’s humanity: a scared, earnest, sometimes self-centered, mostly clueless young man that has to face something so much bigger than himself, something that is so far from the made-up world of fake accents and films in space that he has created for himself and that will eventually consume him. Moments like “Where do I go” and “The Flesh Failures” are moving and brutally honest.

A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish (2019)
Tumblr media
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
Sometimes people exaggerate and say that trailers give away too much, that from the clips shown, they can tell you what the entire movie will be. When talking about A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish, saying that the advertisements reveal too much is a simple fact. Showing any clips from this teleportation pod experiment gone wrong tells you everything you need to know. It’s a generic Christmas-themed rom-com mashed together with the Cinderella fairytale. You could write this plot in your sleep.
Katherine "Kat" Decker (Laura Marano) dreams of becoming a singer-songwriter. Unfortunately, her father’s recent passing has left her in the care of her evil stepmother, Deidra (Johannah Newmarch) and her stepsisters Joy (Lillian Doucet-Roche) & Grace (Chanelle Peloso). They force Kat to work at a Christmas-themed entertainment park. There, she befriends Dominic "Nick" Wintergarden (Gregg Sulkin). She has no idea he’s the son of a billionaire.
If you weren’t convinced before, this settles it. Cinderella doesn’t work in modern times. Kat has access to the internet, to a friend who is willing to help (Isabella Gomez as Isla), to a cell phone, to school counselors, to the police, etc. There is no reason she couldn't escape the enslavement she suffers under Deidra's rule. Her stepmother and stepsisters are so cartoonishly cruel they even capture Kat being mistreated on film. It would be easy to get sent away to a better home if Kat had any motivation to do so. Or maybe she's just dumb. She’s just a few months away from turning 18 and still she doesn’t understand that her stepmother hates her and that the rest of the family will do all they can to make her miserable. How else can you explain the obvious traps she walks into or her inability to keep secrets from them? I don’t want to blame the victim but at a certain point, it’s you that’s the problem, not them.
This fifth (?!) installment in the A Cinderella Story franchise dispenses away with all the magic normally associated with the fairytale. Consequently, Kat's beautiful dresses are whipped up out of nowhere while the rom-com clichés are taken to the extreme. At its core, Cinderella is about two things: a rags-to-riches story and a couple who fall in love without knowing each others’ identity. As part of the modernization package, Kat and Nick meet well ahead of the "royal ball" but for them not to know each other, neither of them ever sees each other without the costumes they wear at work. I guess you might excuse Kat for not recognizing Nick. He’s got a beard and Santa hat on. How he doesn’t recognize her, I don't know. At least Superman puts on a pair of glasses when disguised as Clark Kent. Kat wears elf ears and a hat. No one in the world wouldn’t recognize her.
Now I get to talk about the musical aspect of this picture. When people aren’t singing, you’ll be so bored you’ll wish a fairy would show up and turn you into a pumpkin just so you wouldn’t have to keep watching. Writer/director Michelle Johnston makes 15 minutes feel like ten times that many. When the music kicks in, you’ll want to be turned into a vegetable to avoid dying of embarrassment for the performers. All the numbers are obviously auto-tuned and badly lip-synched, the lyrics haven’t an ounce of creativity and the choreography makes you wonder how desperate the actors must’ve been to agree to this.
If we went in-depth with every offense this film commits, we’d be here until the stroke of midnight so let’s rapid-fire through a few: the token non-white characters who are only there so the film isn’t as white as a fresh Christmas morning; the nonsensical plan by the villains to take Kat’s place at the ball, the ridiculous final music number - complete with perfectly choreographed, spontaneous dance moves; the picture’s fixation on a snow globe that ultimately serves no purpose; Nick’s useless friends that are only there story-wise to crowbar a third act breakup between him and Kat. I know this movie’s for little girls but there are literally dozens of adaptations of Cinderella out there. You could throw a dart at a board and find a more suitable piece of entertainment. This is 86 minutes of torture. (July 2, 2021)

The Enchanted Library
Tumblr media
For those who know me I'm the most significant book worm and my love for poetry keeps me looking for more regarding the written word. As an English major who graduated with an English Language and Literature Bachelors in 2019, this is right up my alley and makes a lot of sense. Today, I finally had a moment to sit down and take some time for myself and do a little exploring. It's important to note I was on vacation for the week which really didn't feel like a vacation so having this small moment meant a lot to me.
Along my exploration inside of Second Life this afternoon I stumbled upon a new art installation called "The Enchanted Library" Again this can be found inside second life by clicking here. This took my love for reading and books to a whole new level. Also for those who don't know me, exploring art installations is my all-time favorite thing to do in world.
To explore more on "The Enchanted Library" please continue reading below.
This sim was built with the poet and reader in mind and it all starts with falling down an "Alice in Wonderland's" rabbit hole into a whole other world. You are welcomed with a notecard that explains more about the sim, the individual (Kaneha Atheria) who has created it, and its significance. I truly recommend reading up on this before entering, it just connects more of the wonder!
Tumblr media
Once you fall down this rabbit hole you enter a beautiful forest, books everywhere! There are so many places to sit and cuddle it's insane, there's even a place to take that special someone dancing. I'm going to be the first one to say that I'd even recommend taking someone here on a virtual date. It's a smaller place but it speaks volumes, there are different areas with different writings you can read by picking up the notecards. I spent 2 hours reading almost every piece of writing. Again if you're a poet (who didn't know it) this is someplace you can get lost in for a while. Just like the sims' title, it's a library with poetry, romance, and a great place if you're into whimsical photography. A lot of the themed forest is based on "Alice in Wonderland" which I'm okay with but it adds some vintage flair to the mix.
Are you ready for a scavenger hunt? I wasn't but at the same time, I'm glad I pushed myself to be ready!
Many of the book installations are interactive all you need to do is sit on them! The creator (Kaneha Atheria) has hidden 16 well-known book titles in many parts of the forest's landscaping. Some of them are actual books you can read, while others are objects from stories and there are even some scenes.
Some of these include the following;
A Christmas Carol
Alice in Wonderland
Baba Yaga
Cinderella
Dracula
Frankenstein
Game of Thrones
Harry Potter
Peanuts (Charlie Brown)
Peter Pan
Phantom of the Opera
Rumpelstiltskin
Snow White
The Frog Prince
The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
The Man With The Golden
Tumblr media
One area I loved here was there was a meditation section near where one of the clickable books was to read some of the poetry. Just watching my avatar in pure bliss made me feel a similar way. It's amazing just how much a human on the other side of a computer screen can connect so closely with their avatars inside of a virtual world. It's truly an experience.
This is a more permanent area that she has created for meetings, events, and just a place to sit and enjoy! There is a group you can join if you wish, and you can share your photos with your amazing experience in this world on their Flickr.
Whether you enjoy reading, photography, exploring, dancing or just want a place to relax and take everything in by transporting yourself to a whole other world, this sim has a little bit of everything for everyone to enjoy. To be honest I may even host a hangout with a few friends here just to read some of the poems together.

I’m on my iPad so I hope I spell everything right and I’m visiting my family and we’re having a early st pats party. Are you doing anything for st patty’s day? But they gave me a good pear martini. I’m chilling on the couch and it’s so coldddd and the martini is hitting me. I’m a light weight. Like no joke one drink and I need to lay down.
Paul McCartney is my favorite Beatle too. The one member I can’t stand is John Lennon. Like I did a deep dive on the history of the Beatles one day and the more I read about Lennon and read his interviews I just can’t. Like I understand his contribution to music and I feel terrible about the way he died. But he kind of turned me off from the Beatles.
Aww I’m sorry to hear that happen with that guy and that it bought up those emotions and past trauma etc. I wish I could be like the fairy godmother from Cinderella and Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo a good man for you or offer some sage advice. But I’m sending u hugs, light, and love across the globe. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ hey maybe u fix that car up one day soon and find that special person on the big open road. Just maybe watch out for any hitchhikers. We want a love story movie not any horror movie crap, Yo have you ever watch the hallmark Christmas movies ? They’re like my guilty pleasure.
I feel like watching some real cheesy romance movies. What’s your favorite ?
But I saw these quotes
https://perfectfeelings.tumblr.com/post/709991056494755840/when-it-rains-look-for-rainbows-when-its-dark
https://www.tumblr.com/onyx-collective/711406050866266112/quick-reminder-from-edwin-youre-a-main-btch?source=share  you da the main bi*ch ♥️
Also that’s really cool that you saw Venus and Jupiter in the sky! Do you have star filled sky’s where u live? It’s my dream to see the stars one day, all we can see in our sky is satellites and planes. Some people claim alien lights. Omg I’m remembering this song https://youtu.be/Aebgf1_iryI.
Even tho it’s hard to see the stars we always get the moon and last was cosmos moon 😉 let me know if u know which movie that’s from.
But when I’m home home I’ll check out those music links. Thank you for sharing them. I didn’t bring my headphones with me. :,,,,/
I think I saw you like to build stuff? U built a bookshelf correct? What other stuff have u done? I’m a bit of a flipper and builder myself. I love flipping old furniture. I’m dreaming of a backyard again one day where I have my she shed and I can use my spray paints again.
Also do u like to cook and/or bake? I tried making some sugar cookies and the recipe was trash, I should have known when I saw how low the liquid ingredients. I’m like why is this sand!? :,/
Omg my family gave the five minute warning before dessert. I’m not gonna lie I was thinking about swiping some cookies before but I behaved. But I saw sugar cookies and ice cream cake. It was so hard.
But please have a wonderful weekend and I hope you feel better soonnn 🫂 I’m going to go wreck some cookies and my diet 🍪
🎶
I know it’s taken me so long to respond! But I know you get me :)
I decided to be anti social for St Patty’s Day because I felt I was becoming too dependent on the social interactions with my friends. I could go for a pear martini, that sounds delish. I love pomegranate martinis too.
Yeah when I learned he abused Yoko I was very turned off. People try to sweep that under the rug and I understand having compassion but we should use it as a way to talk about why abuse isn’t okay.
Omg! Yes I love the hallmark ones and I’m dying. That’s exactly the type of meet cute I would have as a free spirited type. I mean I met this recent dude doing mushrooms at the beach. I have always romanticized hitchhiking myself so maybe that’s another meet cute :) 😂 My favs? I like how to lose a guy in ten days (maybe I like a little antagonism in my dynamics 🤭) , ten things I hate about you (when she stands up in class! And also it’s based on my favorite Shakespeare play) one day (I cry every time) a walk to remember (you’re my only hope) Yeah that feels right.
Thanks for those quotes! I’m always looking at the sky :) and I know! I’m a main bitch but I’m not acting like it. Sigh. I’ll get back there.
Yes I do! Light pollution is less in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. I googled it but I don’t think I’ve seen that movie.
I’ve decided to be a handy bitch! So I built my bed too and a clothing rack. I actually don’t do much crafting or stuff like that because I move all the time so I don’t want to invest in buying things I can’t transport. I keep it light. Maybe one day tho! I watch those videos a lot and am mesmerized.
I can cook but I don’t do it because it’s just me. I just buy a lot of vegetarian or vegan frozen meals or eat out!

O shit I forgot to backup copy the very long propaganda for iconic Czech-German Cinderella before I sent the form, pls tell me you received it and I don't have to retype it all
That particular Cinderella had three submissions so far, one of which were very long. I'll assume it's that one and copy paste it under the cut for you to back up yours! :) Note that Tumblr automatically made the links embeds when I copy pasted it
She has so much personality.
And if all that hasn't convinced you yet but you speak German, here it is on YouTube, go watch it:
youtube
(I won't provide a Czech link since I can't vouch for any of them as I don't speak czech)
Anyway, dear tournament runner: Have a pic of Aschenbrödel, in my favourite of her magically provided outfits, for the poll:

Christmas at the Tech, 1912-1963 - Part 2: Festive Editions of Student Magazines
In the second of our posts about festive activities at the Royal Technical College (RTC), or ‘the Tech’ as it was popularly known, we look at Christmas editions of student magazines.
The student Editorial Committee behind the Royal Technical College Magazine, which was renamed in session 1924-1925 as The Mask, usually incorporated seasonal stories, cartoons and other features into the Christmas edition, or featured hand-drawn, festive artwork on the front cover. An example of the latter is this caricature of the Student Union’s curmudgeonly but well-loved janitor, Bindle, in the guise of Santa. Instead of toys, Bindle’s Santa sack contains a snooker table complete with cues and balls, a chess board, cigarettes, beer, and other items from the students’ wish-list.[1]

A particular highlight of the Christmas-themed features in the magazine is a tongue-in-cheek take on the pantomime, ‘Cinderella’, which appeared in January 1913.[2] The Tech was known worldwide for the quality of its scientific and technical instruction, and practical, scientific knowledge features prominently in the students’ version of this classic story, where it is deployed to great comic effect. Cinderella’s two ugly sisters are here recast as students of the Tech, studying ‘maths and baking’ (the RTC had a thriving School of Bakery). Instead of having to cook, clean and keep house, poor Cinderella, being ‘as clever as she was good,’ is forced to do her sisters’ maths exercises for them!
On the night of the Students’ Union dance, Cinders dresses her sisters in their finery and sees them off. Left alone to watch ‘the delta signs and the sums to infinity in the flames of the kitchen fire,’ she expresses a forlorn wish to go and dance with the Union President. Cinders’ Fairy Godmother duly appears, and, by waving her magic wand over a bottle of hydrogen sulphide (H2S - a colourless gas smelling of rotten eggs), some empty cans and a broken alarm clock, conjures up ‘a beautiful new taxi’ to whisk Cinders off to the dance. Instead of providing her with a dainty pair of glass slippers, the Fairy Godmother hands over one of the sisters’ maths textbooks to serve as a dance programme, for no student could be admitted to the dance hall without a programme.
Having danced not only with the Union President, but with all the other student presidents too, Cinderella’s ‘regular swell time’ is curtailed when the clock strikes twelve, and she dashes off, leaving behind half of the maths textbook in the hands of the smitten ‘Nicest President.’ With no glass slipper to be tried on, the President conceives an ingenious way of tracking down his beloved: he announces that he will marry the girl who can solve a test exercise set by the Professor of Mathematics. Will there be a happy ending? Read on below to find out!

Dec 5th - A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish
Tumblr media
one of the various bizarre films to follow in the series of A Cinderella Story films and though it features a main character who’s dream is to sing a lot like “A Cinderella Story: Once Upon A Song” but this one is set apart because it’s a christmas and the main character spends most of her time in an elf costume.
one thing i can say for definite about this film is that it sure is a clone of the original film. and there’s nothing really more to say about it in that regard.
the film overall was alright and i knew going into it that it wouldn’t live up to the original cinderella story. it’s a nice watch if you just enjoyed the original and aren’t afraid of a downgrade or if you’re a fan of Laura Marano playing a teen who’s biggest dream is to become a singer songwriter then this is the film for you.
this review is pretty short but i don’t really have much to say about this one other than it was better than the last few films i’ve watched for this countdown.
overall i’d rate this film a ★★★/5 stars

A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish is cracking me up already.
Our Cinderella is working in Santa Land and doing Sing-a-grams at night, and she wants to keep her tip money, but instead the evil step-mother keeps it, because dog food is pricey? So she’s like I need this money cause you won’t give me my dad’s inheritance, and the step-mother is like you’re not 18 yet, so I can do whatever I want.
But this actress looks way into her 20s??
Even Twilight looked more convincing.

I hate straight romcoms so much. I mean I don't like most romcoms but straight ones are just so bad and sexist. And christmas ones are even worse. I watched the first half of The Princess Switch today because of some self destructive impulse and it was....well was bad......like really bad but the thing that did it for me was when the prince puts his hand on Stacy's hand to show her the lower part for Carol of the Bells and it just felt so demeaning like wtf??? Imagine if the roles had been reversed and it was a princess teaching a duke how to play it! It would be played for laughs not for romance and it certainly wouldn't end with the princess reaching around the duke to play a bass note at the end!
Tbh that scene triggered my gag reflexes.
