last song: I was driving home from Target earlier listening to my 2022 mix and the last song that played start to finish was song of the moment/song of my entire life “Least Expected” by My Morning Jacket (let’s put it this way, I epigraphed with it as soon as I had the right thing for it).
last show/series: I am watching a lot right now. Just finished season 2 of What We Do in the Shadows a few nights ago. And I’m currently watching THREE things on a weekly basis: Abbott Elementary (!!!) and GBBO and series 14 of Taskmaster.
currently watching: I accidentally answered that in the previous question.
favorite color: Grey. Also very bright dark pink with a lot of red in it. Also most deep blues and purples.
sweet, spicy, or savory: Savory if I had to choose, but ideally let’s get all of that going at once. Especially spicy.
currently reading: Normal People by Sally Rooney. I’m liking it, but I haven’t picked it up in a few days, and that’s making me sad because I inhaled Beautiful World, Where Are You? (which I’d actually count among an all-time fave both for the sheer pleasure of having read it and also because I think the writing has a lot to teach me), and then I inhaled Conversations With Friends even though it felt like the work of a much newer/younger writer (which is true) because it was similarly catnip-like for my brain. I may actually need to start Normal People over and force myself to read it at a similar pace as the others?
what i'm working on: Apparently I’m watching all the shows and reading all the books and eating all the flavors and also working on all the stories? I’ve written very little this week due to time constraints and stress, but that will hopefully change as soon as later in this quiet night curled up on the couch while my wife watches football. :) I’m working on an original story that is my first attempt at any kind of dystopian setting (dystopian lite for sure). I’m also working on Other People’s Words # 8 (Ted Lasso love square series), and I just got my Femslash Exchange assignment, and I’ve got a couple other things on the list too.
currently obsessed with: Ted Lasso, always, as a kinda constant thing (even the ebbs and flows never dip below or transcend past obsession, it’s just a thing that is true at this point). My Morning Jacket. This itchy make-tangible-things feeling I have and the progress I’m making (pun not intended) on that. Taskmaster and its ~~dynamics. Buttered bread and coffee. Beautiful World, Where Are You? and specifically a couple of scenes. Returning to my outdoor volleyball team and getting stronger. Those (and the other constant obsessions like wife obsession, cat obsession, friend obsession) are the fun ones.
Less fun is me obsessing over my sleep patterns and the factors that currently impact my sleep. Also the way having Covid back in February is still effecting my relationship to food, in that my appetite is really sluggish and the quantity of food I can eat is super inconsistent and some of the stuff I used to love doesn’t feel quite right, in that it doesn’t feel as VIVID to eat good food as it used to. I was never a huge meat eater and I’ve been eating about 90% vegetarian and 98% pescatarian since early summer, but tonight I bought and ate beef jerky because NOTHING else sounded good and I needed protein so badly. It was savory, spicy, and a little sweet, and I’m so glad I ate it, even though I wish I had not been in a position to want to eat it! It’s so weird! I’m reasonably healthy at the moment and to my knowledge haven’t suffered any ill effects from these changes, but I dislike how my food situation has shifted a few degrees in a way I still haven’t put my finger on. It does make me really appreciate it when I find something I want to eat, enjoy it as much as I think I will, and don’t regret it after.

favorite color i’m allergic to single favorites bc really what i like is color palettes! like. hm. ochre and stormy blue-grey and mossy grey-green. neon chartreuse. highlighter yellow. marigold orange. really saturated electric or else cobalt blue. either Restful or Vivid depending on mood basically. (‘blue-bleak embers, ah my dear, / fall, gall themselves, and gash gold-vermilion...’)
currently reading oh god i’m technically in the middle of both a memory called empire AND john m. ford’s aspects still, probably i should finish at least one of those... also i was listening to a bit of the fellowship of the ring in the car the other day (thx, libby!), so i guess that belongs on the list too? (and then there’s the tbr pile from my last used-bookstore trip, which is like. märchen auf deutsch and medieval verse romances and a hopkins biography. but i can’t in good conscience count those as ‘currently’ reading, they’re in the wings at most.)
last song we truly went on a WHOLE musical journey while i was drafting this post, let me tell you. everything from early-00s french indie pop to david lang’s ‘just (after song of songs)’ (which is an incredible piece, for the record—feels like having yr brain carded). but just at the moment we’re up to patrick wolf, from the god’s own country soundtrack, which:
and i long to be carried on just once to be lifted strong out of the loneliness and the emptiness of the days
i mean. don’t we all.
last tv show this feels like cheating somehow but it was in fact last week’s episode of the great british bake off! which seems not-unrepresentative really: i like watching people do creative crafty things; i find food really conceptually interesting (flavors, textures, history, politics...); and i like how warmly collegial gbbo in particular usually is.
last movie oh god, something very quintessentially my dad... state of play (2009), our netflix history informs me. which was very much not high art but like. for the particular sort of thing it is (attempting to uncover a coverup, people are getting killed, you know the drill)‚ i’ve seen worse? russell crowe served p good ‘tired and jaded but still trying wearily despite himself to do the right thing,’ which—having put that into words, no wonder i didn’t hate it more, that’s geralt right there, lmao. different avatars of the same essential blorbo nature. :3
sweet/savory/spicy savory AND spicy! ugh now i’m thinking dreamily of laksa and also of the various spicy lamb noodle things at xi’an famous foods. spicysavorywithnoodles my beloved.
currently working on my sleep schedule, with—really not very much success, if we’re being honest. it’s gotten very fucked and it’s getting in the way of doing things i’d like to do and i feel like shit about it! but every new day is a new opportunity to chip away at things (zie says thru gritted teeth).
tagging god, i don’t know—@theunembarrassedalto, @mosspig, @toads-revisited, @klaproos, @proudheron, and @e-b-reads, maybe? but only if you feel like it. and as ever, anyone else who'd like to be!

Could you please do one where avengers are having a mini bake off like gbbo, where Nat, Bruce, Thor, Y/N and Wanda are the judges and Bucky, Steve, Sam and Tony are the contestants? And can it please be based off Michael Sheen in the Great British bake off (the potato peeler moment, maybe Steve does what Micheal does with the peeler?) just basically absolute chaos with Bucky x y/n? Is this too specific?
[I'm so sorry, I have never watched the Great British Bake Off 😬 BUT I did look up some episodes to see if I can get an idea of it! I hope this is kind of what you wanted. Also, I couldn't find the potato peeler thing, so i made up my own, lol. I'm also sorry this took forever to write! I was doing like 50 things at once]
Y/N, to Steve, Sam, Bucky and Tony: Bakers listen up! Today we are having a bake off and you four are going to make up something you think we would like.
Steve: Bu- But we don't know how to make a full meal... That you would like...
Wanda: Well, we'll be the judge of that *giggles and elbows Thor* I've always wanted to say that.
Thor: Ah, yes lady Wanda! That was a brilliant joke!
Natasha: Anyway. As Y/N was saying, we are going to be serving this for *your favorite holiday* so make sure it's good.
Sam, Steve, Bucky and Tony: *Looks at each other nervously*
Bruce: Let's get started in three, two, one! Go!
*A few moments later*
Y/N, to Natasha: *Whispers* This is already a disaster.
Natasha: You're telling me. I mean Steve lived by himself for a long time, you'd think he'd at least know how to cook potatoes.
Steve, peeling potatoes: *Talking to himself* Wait, do I use a knife or this peely thingy mcbob!?
Tony, to Steve: You use the peeler. Even I know that and I don't cook.
Y/N, Natasha, Wanda and Bruce from the table: Less talking, more cooking!
Bucky: WHERE'S THE CUTTING KNIFE!?
Tony: I DON'T KNOW!
Bucky: WELL IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHY DID YOU ANSWER!?
Sam, doing everything amazingly: Hehe, I'm definitely winning this thing. My mama didn't raise no baby. She raised a man!
Bucky: No one asked you bird brain.
Sam: Shut up tin can.
Y/N: HEY! Back to cooking or no ice cream for either one of yous.
Sam and Bucky: Yes, Y/N.
Natasha: You have to teach me that.
Steve: Ok, ok, I figured out how to peel the potatoes!
Bruce: We're never gonna eat.
Thor, to Bruce: Here, have a Pop-Tart!
Bruce: Thanks buddy.
Steve: THERE'S POTATOES EVERYWHERE!
Natasha: Great, now he's gonna dream about potatoes.
Steve: I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH BUTTER GOES INTO THEM!
Tony: *Adding tequila to his potatoes and chicken* Da, da, da, da, da, da, da TEQUILA!
Sam: Hmmm, Hmmm, Hmmm. One cup of olive oil. Maybe a pinch of salt. Ah, perfect!
Steve: Natasha? Can't you help me?
Natasha: Nope!
Bucky: Come on Steve, you got this. You don't see me asking Y/N for help.
Steve: HOW MUCH BUTTER DO I USE!?
Steve: I'll just use four cups.
Thor: Uh, is that ok?
Wanda: No. No it is not.
*A few disastrous hours later*
*Y/N, Wanda and Natasha are laying on top of each other and Bruce and Thor are playing chess*
Sam, Bucky, Steve and Tony: Done!
Y/N, Wanda, Natasha, Bruce and Thor: Thank Goodness!
*All the guys putting their meals on the table*
Steve: *Puts his meal on table* Uh, here ya go.
Y/N: Is this potatoes or soup?
Steve: Potatoes...
Steve: I think.
Natasha: *Sarcastically* This is the lovely chef I married.
Bucky: *Puts his meal on the table*
Y/N: Bucky, honey, what is that? *Points to the burnt meatloaf*
Bucky: It was meatloaf.
Bruce: More like meat-don't! *Starts laughing*
Thor: Ohhh, burn! *High fives bruce*
Tony: *Whispers* Like that meatloaf.
Bucky: *Glares at Tony*
Tony: *Puts his meal on the table*
Wanda: Well, this don't look too bad *takes a bite and starts coughing* Good Lord Tony! How much tequila did you put in this!?
Tony: Uh, the whole bottle?
Thor: This is nothing! *Finishes the whole chicken*
Y/N: Ok, Sam, you're up. Hopefully you don't kill us.
Sam: *Smirking* I think I did pretty good if I say so myself.
Y/N: *Takes a bite* Mmm! This is amazing Sam!
Wanda: Let me try. Wow! This is great!
Thor and Bruce: Can we have some?
Natasha, Wanda and Y/N: No!
*Later that night*
Bucky, to Steve: Who knew Sam was a good cook.
Steve: Yeah.
Tony: Well at least we know why Bruce, Sam, Y/N, Wanda and Natasha all cook for the holidays.
Steve: What about Thor?
Tony: He just eats Pop-Tarts and sleeps most of the day.
Bucky and Steve: Ohhhh.

Things I am watching lately. I feel like I am having a hard time connecting to some of the new tv I have been trying to watch lately - but I also feel that way with the books I have been trying to read or Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung. Like it doesn't fully hold my attention. I still find Rookie Historian to be a cute, enjoyable show. I am just not as emotionally invested as before. The last few weeks have been kinda hectic though. Not too much free time to watch tv shows or really get immersed into the stories I have tried to consume. And being sick for two days hasn't helped, since I don't always feel like I have the attention span to take in new shows when I am sick. I just watch endless amount of Friends since I don't have to think too much. It is junk food for the brain and I adore it.
The Good Place: It is very unlike myself to truly binge watch a show. I much prefer watching stuff week by week and even with a simple sit com like The Good Place it can take me months to finish it. But I pretty much binge watched the entire first and a half season in a day (stayed up late and went sleepy to work the next day) or so. I got super hooked on it. I am now almost fished with season three. I am enjoying myself.
The Great British Bake Off, s10: Just the best show to just drink tea and chill over. The worst thing about the show is that it sort of makes me hungry and I keep snacking over it. But GBBO is just the coziest baking show there is. I adore watching it. I look forward to it every year (since I started watching it a few years back). I like so many of the contestants (like always) but this year Michael and Helena are probably my favorites.
Sanditon: It lacks something story wise but I am not sure what, but it is stunning to look at and I do find it enjoyable Jane Austen type story (and it is based on her unfinished novel) but it lacks a certain wow factor for me that often Jane Austen adaptations have. That Austen flare if you will. I am not totally hooked, I don't watch it as each episodes comes out. But I do find it kinda enjoyable and pretty to look at. And gorgeous old houses, pretty clothes and scenery is one of the reasons why I like British (or any) period dramas. I am a simple girl. I like watching pretty period clothes and old things.
Why Women Kill: My main problem with this show is that I don't find the different timelines or storylines of this house to be equally interesting or fun. But I am enjoying the show a lot. I find the story set in our time to be very boring - I kinda don't care for it or the characters there.  That is also the storyline where the man in the story get's sort of his storyline along with the women, which sort of contrasts with the men in the other stories. Does that make sense. The other two storylines are so much more fun to watch for me, and I especially feel for Beth Ann and her blossoming friendship with the mistress of  her husband. What makes the sort of 1980s storyline tick is probably just Lucy Liu as Simone. That women is just so stunning and great in everything I see her in! She is a dream in this one.
Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency: Don’t feel like making a first impression post, so I am sticking this one in there. This show has a moments of kinda sincerely and more intriguing moments, but it is also kinda over the top silly at times (which I don't always like and often goes into over-acting or over-reacting to something) and there isn't that much of a balance between those. There were parts of back stories and hint of political tension and so forth that I liked. But the sort of over-acting and the more silly stuff sort of took me out of the story again. I don’t mind a bit of comedy (although super slapstick stuff isn't my cup of tea) to defuse the tension in a story, but there needs to be a bit of a balance or it sort of needs to fit together better. The first episode was just sort of OK. It is cute and pretty to look at, but I wonder about how much substance it has. I wanted a bit more of a hook. But I shall give it a few more episodes to truly see how I feel about it. But with all of the other kdramas coming up, it might not have enough to hold my attention for too long.
The Crown: setting goals like finishing the first two seasons of The Crown before Olivia Colman steps into the role of Elizabeth actually motivates me to start shows that have been on my to-watch-list for ages. That also happens with book series that are being turned into films/tv but that is another matter. The Crown is a very well executed and stunning to watch period drama, as I expected - which is one of the main requires I have for period dramas according to this list. I have yet to be hooked my it, but first episodes can't always do that. I was strange seeing Matt Smith again. I am not sure I have seen him in anything other than Doctor Who. But this show seems to be the sort of thing that I would enjoy.
Shows I tried to watch:
Strangers from Hell: I want to watch horror show. It is the season for creepy, dark shows. But yet I opted out of Strangers from Hell for some reason after about 30 minutes. It was somehow not holding my attention that well. Maybe it was just because I was getting sick or something, but I just wasn't super into it.
The Terror - Infamy: I had a hard time connecting the the first season of The Terror. I also had a hard time connecting and emerging myself into the book as well. I found myself having a similar problem with the first episode of this season. But I am thinking about giving it another go.
I have not been keeping up with the part 3 of Arthdal Chronicals. The show was kinda lost to me towards the end of part 2. It just could not hold my attention, the episodes felt so long (and the are long) and the show struggled so in the beginning where the worldbuilding and stuff dragged on for too long and by the time the character arcs started to really come to light I just wasn’t emotionally invested anymore.
But still, Arthdal is one of those shows that I kinda wish I was watching, or could enjoy, because I like the idea of it, so it is sort of always in the back of my mind that I should pick it up again. But at the same time, I can’t be bothered to turn on Netflix and watch an episode. I would much rather watch The Good Place or The Crown on there.
