heal him | zuko x fem!reader
description: when zuko gets hurt during the agni kai with azula, katara attempts to heal him while y/n fights against the princess.
trigger warnings: graphic violence, blood, gore, description of minor injuries, earthbender!reader, mentions of death, etc. read at your own risk.
word count: <1k
"Katara!" You whisper-yelled as she slipped from your side to move her way onto the battle field between Zuko and Azula. "Stop! What are you doing?" You scolded her as you reached for her wrist to stop her.
"Zuko needs help," Katara pulled her hand back and walked onto the field, standing behind Zuko. You parted your lips and breathed out softly, worried for her safety, along with Zuko's.
Azula's fingertips built up an immense amount of blue lightning as she smirked and turned to see Katara standing behind Zuko. His head turned to see the waterbender standing afar from him.
Before his sister could strike Katara with the lightning that built up between her fingertips, Zuko shouted, "No!" He lunged to the side and blocked the lightning from striking her.
Releasing a sharp breath, you hurried towards Katara and clenched your fist as you saw Zuko groaning in pain, against the ground.
"Heal him, now!" You spoke sternly and walked around her to face Azula yourself. Katara nodded slowly and rushed towards Zuko, kneeling down beside him.
"Ah.. Zu Zu's girlfriend, I've been dying to properly meet you," Azula smirked wickedly as you clenched your jaw. You motioned your hands forward to push the stone up against Azula, but she jumped in retaliation.
"Stop this, Azula.. while you're still alive," You spat as you motioned your hands again to form a stone ball, tossing it towards her, but she sliced it in two with the electricity that ran through her fingers.
"You clearly don't know the rules of an Agni Kai, do you?" She laughed as you breathed heavily through your flared nostrils. You stomped your foot against the stone ground and caused a large pillar to protrude up from beneath the ground, slamming Azula in the face. She stumbled back against the ground.
You took this as your opportunity to swiftly motion your hands, arising several stone pillars from underground that enclosed around her. You lowered your hands and released a soft breath. Azula released an angry cry before summoning lightning from the sky, burning the stone around her.
Azula jumped back up onto her feet and shot blue flames towards you. You lifted a stone wall from the ground and blocked it in front of you, to avoid being struck by the heat flames. You stepped back onto your heel and pushed the stone wall towards her, across the field as it slammed her back against the rail.
You ran towards her and lifted another stone wall, slamming it down against her as she was unconscious against the ground. Swiftly, you pulled the bandanna from your hair, letting it loose, and stood before Azula. You grabbed her wrists and pulled them behind her back, tightly tying them together so that she couldn't move or break free from it.
Sweat dripped down along the sides of your face as you stood over her, watching as her eyes closed, looking almost lifeless. You turned to see Zuko standing up with Katara. He was still weak, you could tell.
You hurried towards them and released a soft breath as Zuko's lips curved into a soft, thankful grin. You wasted no time and wrapped your arms around his torso, burying your face into his chest. He returned the chest and rested his cheek against your head. You could feel Katara squeeze in, making you smile softly.
Once the three of you pulled back, you looked at Katara and released a soft sigh, "Don't ever do anything like that again."
"I'm sorry, I just thought you could use our help," Katara looked from you to Zuko.
"Thank you.. both of you," Zuko offered a soft smile. You pulled your lips into a thin smile before turning to see Azula, waking up. You watched as she struggled to free herself from the knot you tied. You smirked gently and turned back to see Zuko and Katara were also looking at her.
"Come on, we should go," You told them as they obliged.

Water Nation OC Fanart
This one might look interesting because I had to remove the initial background on remove.bg so yeah, but I did it on magma and I did the background with like water and it was soooo bad. Anyway lemme know some name ideas and I think she should be part of her own tribe, hence the symbol on her forehead. What do you think of this btw? As usual, please no NSFW stuff as I am only 14, and keep it nice!! Also the artwork kinda gets messed up with remove.bg erasing and then I replaced the background with grey...but it's still pretty good I reckon other than a few colouring mishaps. I did it on my Chromebook touchscreen!

I wanted to go a bit more in-depth with this piece that I did for zukka week 2023 because i got inspired to do more insane clothing details. ID in ALT.
Ramble about the influences/inspirations below:
Design inspirations for Sokka's clothing are mainly Inuvialuit and Yup'ik, with Nenets, Tlingit, and Chukchi inspiration for the tassels, patterns, belt and beadwork. I mixed these with the ornaments canon shows us used by the Northern Water Tribe, and also in Legend of Korra. I got particularly excited about drawing from Inuvialuit sources since the tassels we see in canon look like they could be inspired by this. Going beyond canon's animation-friendly colour scheme, I drew from Nenets patterns/embroidery/sashes and Yup'ik beadwork for accent colours. I think in the future I'd like to find ways to incorporate more Tlingit-style patterns since I rarely see them in fanart (which is a shame - they're stunning), but since they tend to be very big I ultimately decided to only include them as a nod in order to keep the regalia recognisable as 'Water Tribe'. I wonder if I could start using Polynesian influences as well?
Zuko's headdress and particularly the shoulder garment and beaded embroidery draw heavily from women's clothing styles of Lê Dynasty Vietnam. The other main influence is men's royal clothing in Tang Dynasty China, and patterns worn by Mongolian Khatun. Since we have a bit more to go on in canon as to what fire nation regalia looks like, I blended that in as well. I got particularly excited about the embellishments on Lê Dynasty clothes because I could give a little nod to Zuko's dragon-fire by adding more colours to the embroidery. In the future I think I'd want to make the Mongolian influence a bit more obvious... perhaps even push the envelope by incorporating some Bashkir designs, though I'm not sure how well that will go.

Sokka may not be a misogynist, but the Netflix live action ATLA is:
There really is no cartoon/anime for female empowerment like the OG ATLA and LOK cartoons.
The creators of ATLA wrote the manifesto on how to create a masterful series on female empowerment and equality that is not cheesy or hocky.
In this show, women and girls are not a monolith but immensely diverse. There's no correct way to be a powerful, talented and bold woman or girl within the avatar universe.
You can be hyper-feminine like Ty Lee and Asami.
You can embody more traditionally masculine qualities like Korra and Toph.
Or you could just be a typical woman or girl falling more in between like Azula, Mai, or Suki.
You see the exact same thing for the male characters. There's no right way to be a man. There's many ways to be a man, and this idea flies in the face of patriarchy.
I say that the Netflix version is misogynist, because it's not enough to be a powerful woman. One must be allowed to be unapologetically, unabashedly and boldy powerful.
Which is what happens in the OG ATLA. Sokka's misogyny was actually a part of his character arc, because every time he was misogynist his misogyny was met with the answer that women and girls are phenomenal, that women and girls are living their lives and largely unconcerned with the opinions of men.
If you read the Kiyoshi novels, you learn that surprisingly enough, the least patriarchal amd misogynist nation in all of Avatar is the fire nation, and the misogynistic nation in all of Avatar is the northern water tribe.
The reason I say that the women in these shows are unabashedly powerful is because aside from Sokka and the master from the Northern Water tribe, no one ever questions why or how they are powerful. They expect it.
Zuko is Ozai's first born son, yet Azula is his pride. When Ozai imagines the future, he imagines it with Azula as the fire lord. He names her after his father. He trusts her to go find the avatar once he knows the avatar has returned.
Sokka and Katara effectively lost both of their parents, but Katara the youngest steps up as the mother and becomes the glue of the group. She's the one who becomes both an immensely powerful bender and healer.
Suki loves Sokka, but when we are introduced to her. She is unconcerned with him. Her and the other Kiyoshi warriors are the protectors of the village who go out into the world to do good into the world.
We see the revseral of all of these tenants in the Netflix show.
Ozai has hope for Zuko at the expense of Azula who he sees as a nuisance. She is no longer am obvious prodigy.
Katara is seen as a child who will not grow up by her brother who is now behaving as a father figure.
Suki is infatuated with Sokka and she follows him around Kiyoshi island when he arrives.
These woman are powerful but restrained and undermined in this power. Suki becomes concerned with the opinions of a man, and a random man at that.
What the OG ATLA taught to all women, girls, boys and men is that you never have to apologize for being powerful, intelligent, kind empathetic.
This is a very critical point that cuts to the heart of the OG ATLA that Netflix has missed.

A drawing of Katara from ATLA, when she becomes a Queen of the Air Nation after marrying Aang
So Katara is definitely gonna wear splashes of blue and yellow often after becoming Queen of Air Nation. I incorporated Ancient Tibetan and Mongol elements into this attire, and also some stylistic nods to Imperial Consort Wencheng of Tibet and Khutulun into this drawing
The braided hairstyle is a reference to a complicated Tibetan hairstyle wjth a beaded headdress
And since Air Nation has nods to Tibetan Empire, and Water Nation has nods to the Xiongnu Empire and Ancient Mongolia, Katara is gonna infuse Ancient Tibetan, Xiongnu and Mongol fashion elements in her wardrobe after she and Aang got married
Wencheng was a spirited and highly intelligent Tang Dynasty Princess, who has a liking for poems and riddles
She isn't a warrior princess like Katara is, but Wencheng is sure more of a spirited/silk hiding steel type
Similarly with Katara, who later on married into Air Nation royalty, Wencheng later on married into Tibetan Empire Royalty ( Air Nation got nods to Tibetan Empire, remember )
And Wencheng becomes a formidable diplomat similarly as Katara has become
Khutulun is one of the many great granddaughters of Genghis Khan and Borte, and a niece of Kublai Khan. A formidable warrior and shrewd diplomat, Khutulun becomes famed for her battle strategy prowess and formidable prowess in Mongol wrestling.
