"-37F Winter in Yellowstone"
Tumblr media
Yellowstone National Park is always fascinating and surreal, but especially so in winter when volcanically-heated geysers and springs meet frigid, snowy weather. This short film from Drew Simms shows the park and its wildlife in the depths of winter.  (Video and image credit: D. Simms) Read the full article

ok i made the water oc into a full thing lol
(water vapor and ice variants since i have this idea for a puzzle platformer where you have to take the different forms to do different things, inspired by this game called h2o go that’s only on an educational tablet lol)

“While the water vapor might suggest that GJ 486 b has an atmosphere, water vapor from the star is also a likely explanation. Surprisingly, water vapor can occasionally be found in sunspots on our own Sun since they are extremely chilly compared to the star’s surrounding surface. Because the host star of GJ 486 b is much more relaxed than the Sun, its starspots would condense even more water vapor. It could therefore provide a signal that resembles a planetary atmosphere.”

What is Green house effect - Introduction to the Greenhouse Effect
What is Green house effect – Introduction to the Greenhouse Effect The greenhouse effect is a natural process that plays a crucial role in regulating Earth's temperature. It works by trapping heat in the atmosphere, which helps maintain a suitable climate for life on our planet. Understanding the greenhouse effect is essential as it influences climate patterns, weather conditions, and…

To further illustrate the principles involved in osmosis, consider the situation in figure 10.27; we have a beaker of water in an enclosed space already saturated in water vapour, and we have just added a beaker of an aqueous solution of a nonvolatile solute. (...) The higher the concentration of the solution, the more water is transferred to it (figure 10.27).

An article published in the journal "Nature" reports the results of an examination of the exoplanet WASP-18b. A team of researchers used the James Webb Space Telescope to map the temperatures on the surface of this ultra-hot Jupiter very close to its star. The temperature variations are around 1,000° Kelvin between the hottest area always facing its star and the border area between day and night. Webb's Near-Infrared Imager and Slitless Spectrograph (NIRISS) also found traces of water vapor that other instruments had missed.

On the Vital Importance of Atmospheric Hydroxyl Radical (OH*) Chemistry For Removal of Methane
On the Vital Importance of Atmospheric Hydroxyl Radical (OH*) Chemistry For Removal of Methane
Jun 27, 2022 In this video I delve into the details of the hydroxyl radical (OH*). This extremely reactive molecule is known as the “detergent of the atmosphere” and is the major scrubber of methane in the atmosphere. Methane levels in the atmosphere are rapidly rising, with 2020 and 2021 being record setting years, by far. Since the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of methane is 34x that of CO2…

Relative humidity (RH) refers to the ratio of the amount of water vapor present in the air at a particular temperature to the maximum amount of water vapor that this air can hold at that particular temperature without having that vapor condense out as mist. Air at low temperature can hold less water vapor as vapor before it condenses out. For example a RH of 87 at 30 degrees centigrade, means that the air has eighty seven percent of the maximum amount of water it can hold as vapor at 30C before that vapor condenses out as mist.
If this air has its temperature lowered to say 20C, that 87 can become 100, resulting in mist formation, this being the reason why dew forms on leaves at dawn for the temperatures are lower at this time of the day causing some of that water vapor to condense out as dew droplets.
It is also the reason why a can of cold soda rapidly become covered  with water droplets even on a hot day. Technically you are creating the dawn on that cold metal.
Driving at dawn is dangerous for this reason, particularly at northern latitudes where the low temperature does not allow the air to hold much vapor as vapor before it precipitates out as a fine fatal fog.
This day was both overcast and a bit cool, explaining the intense mist formation on this shoreline, at a level of intensity I have witnessed on no other shoreline explored thus far on the littorals of Andhra Pradesh. This was an actual fog!!
The air on the seashore is already heavily laden with moisture due to the breaking surf, and a drop in temperature can send visibility plummeting, as more vapor precipitates out as suspended mist. You can consider such ground hugging mist as a type of cloud close to the ground!!!!

winter is the shittiest season truly. i'm already predisposed to being cold due to the autoimmune disease but then i also get cold when i get hungry (not disease-related. this happens to everyone) and then if i want to get warm food, i have to walk out to my freezing kitchen and putter around touching cold dishes with my freezing hands and then wait for the food to heat up in the microwave or on the stove. i'm laying in my bathtub starving to death rn.
