How am I totally unable to describe or ask for anything I want when getting a haircut

Went in to the person I’ve been seeing for like 20 years with hair I’d been growing out for 8 months and actually, unusually for me, was really digging and was just like “I like how loose and wavy it is, I’m liking the length, I just want to clean up and add layers to the back” and I didn’t say the word “shag” which I should have and I was vaguely like “I guess?” when she said “bob” and when we talked about which part of the front of my hair we were evening the back with we were clearly talking about WILDLY different things because now my hair is six inches shorter and stick straight and exactly the same as when I was 24 and I have been having a complete and utter emotional meltdown since I left the salon and didn’t have to pretend to be fine with it anymore
