one of my biggest issues with new trek is that it keeps trying to make every season of every new show have such a monumental scale that it circles right back around to being irrelevant. there's always a huge evil plot to destroy everything in the universe slash starfleet (and the assumption that starfleet and the federation IS everything ((and that everyone should want to join)) is a whole other debate) and our rag-tag crew of misfits has to save the poor defenseless federation against all odds etc etc..... like i get it, big stakes = big action = big emotion. but it's too big. it's lazy. when "everything" is on the line, characters don't have to justify why they're risking their lives because, duh, it's obvious, they're doing it because they have to etc etc. there's literally no believable alternative in the narrative.

whereas a smaller scale issue (i.e. voyager stuck in the DQ, dealing with the cardassian occupation of bajor, and so on; still big problems to solve! but they don't affect the entire fabric of society) has moral gray areas and also specific goals the main characters should achieve other than just "save everyone in the universe". the characters could and did question their own motives and actions because there wasn't one right answer! the shows were about thinking about what the right answer was!!! how am i supposed to believe that the real treasure was the friends we made along the way if i don't care about the ""way"" in the first place????

#also just the constant 'oh no a super powerful Enemy is attacking all our carefully constructed moral goodness points!' #did we learn nothing from the xenophobic ent 9/11 fiasco #i'm just so tired of season finales that try to make me care about a fleet of spaceships getting destroyed in a giant battle lmao #rewatching picard and prodigy back to back and i feel like i've been bombarded with subliminal nationalism #i was so hopeful about prodigy. they started out SO FAR AWAY from the federation and this whole tendency #but no #again this is my old man yelling at the sky moment because this is just the way modern television is i guess #trek just seems to take it a bit too literal for my tastes #WHATEVER #a high definition voy or ds9 remaster would save me i think #i'm drawn in by the prettiness of new shows but then let down by the storytelling 😔

Is this a safe space to say that of all the Nancy games we’ve played so far the culprit that caught my sister and I by surprise the most was from SCK remastered?

(We just didn’t consider them to be an option, no idea why in hindsight. Regardless it was an ego hit when looking up the general consensus on that game and everyone was like “the culprit was so obvious”) (which is correct)

I do have proof however that we eventually figured out the culprit in Deception island before the reveal (it did take us a while we were on the case of the non culprit for a WHILE)

#mass effect #my sleep schedule is all over the place right now but hear me out #ever since the initial liara teaser came out i thought how maybe it's not about connecting one thing to the other #maybe it's just showing you a bunch of iconic things that represent the series to get you excited and know there's more #and with the current 2/3 of todays teaser we have: eden prime music + 'someone' in n7 gear + the tempest + the name 'epsilon' #(epsilon was one of the original titles of mass effect) and it just seems like very specifically chosen assets to show #that to me don't really add up unless the series is being reprised as a whole #and these days games are getting rebooted and they typically come with a remaster too.... #EDIT: i was wrong about the tempest

mm i’ve been super excited for the new sam and max s3 remaster since i found out about it’s release last year. (I sorta expected it to be out in April, and then by christmas but nope reschedule to 2024)

HOWEVER, after seeing like the screenshot comparisons from the original and the new models in the remaster it just feels like its lacking something??

For example:

This comparison sticks out to me a rather lot, because eventhough it looks very polished, well shaded and detailed. It just??? It lacks the atmosphere of Sam and Max?

I love the Devil’s Playhouse because its so unique compared to the other telltale games, its a brilliant blend of different genres and styles of storytelling that work together to make a very original and creative gameplay. I personally think its one of the best instalments to the franchise.

Now, I’m completely honest when i say the new designs are well done, and it does look very fresh and polished.

But one thing I love about Sam and Max, s3 specifically, is that its filthy. The atmosphere are world around them is just dingy and gross and it builds up this very Sam and Max-like environment. However, in what im seeing of the new remaster it looks far too vibrant, clean and polished to be sam and max yknow? The devil’s playhouse has a much grainer and cheesy noir vibe about it which feels completely lost in the new style.

Also, theres a real lack of expression in the new models? S3’s models had some of the most detailed and expressionate designs that feel a bit lost due to new cell shading. It’s likely that Skunkape are trying to match the art with the previous remasters to bring some artistic consistency, but the thing with the devil’s playhouse is that it never really was like s1 and s2- it was more unique and almost darker(?)- and I don’t believe the brighter, comic book esque style really translates well here.

That doesn’t mean to say the game will be awful, or that i won’t buy it (because being real i will get my hands onto any sam and max content there is) and I also feel that I shouldn’t really be judging the game before it’s even been released. Regardless of this though, I’m very avidly addicted to Sam and Max and im also naturally apprehensive about change and this is just my opinions on the new visuals??

one of my most favorite pet peeves is when someone talks about an old edgy game and is like "its a shame because you couldn't just make that nowdays it would NEVER have been allowed its a shame how we've fallen" but like you get to look at them in comparison to things we have now that are actively even more grusome than ever. People say manhunt couldn't be released today because its too brutal but then the last of us has some extra brutal executions too, and don't even get me started on how the MK series is nowadays. "they would have to censor the story so heavily today so im glad [blank] came out years ago" they say, as some weren't already censored to tone it down- a perfect example of that is always going to be Twisted Metal Black where they changed up Raven's, Dollface's, Agent Stone's, Preacher's, John Doe's story to simmer them all down and lighten the blow, expunging certain levels ambient sounds because the implications of domestic violence, and the changing of No-face's surgical cutscene to make it not as explicitly nasty and meanwhile modern games have been actively stepping it up to be even worse.

"Games are just too prudish nowdays we couldnt even get another ghostly desires LOL" and meanwhile the front page to steam is literally littered with hentai games. that do not hide the lewd and raunchy screenshots. sometimes its a freshly creampied pussy in your face. yeah that. Im sorry but there's so much god damn porn games that are available to buy and some of it is mainstream even (Huniepop for instance).

Back in the day NightTrap was rated as an Adult game. Now? It's T for teen because how tame it kinda is. We're not as prudish or pearlclutchy on literally any of these points as we used to be and thank fucking god for that- but literally take off the nostolgia goggles cause its fuckin blinding you sweetie
