I don't read or watch the twilight saga, I only have seen some parts. But I love fanfics, I twilight fanfics are part of all the group of shows that I like. But my queer ass prefer a platonic relationship than romantic between Bella and Edward. WLW and MLM is the best friendship ever.

Spending a Saturday with your boss, huh? Step By Step, episode 6, thoughts:

I literally jumped into this show last week, binged it hot and fast to join the protest against fandoms demanding censorship of ZeeNunew commentary (fans. demanding. censorship.) (instead of bothering to understand satire) (okay, sure) (I urge these dear fans to go back to school and learn comparative media comprehension) (read Nietzsche and Voltaire) (god forbid we were to use our brains to enjoy these shows instead of just our hormones) (yeah, I said it) (oh, I’m still mad).

Anyway. I didn’t plan on taking this show on, but I am THOROUGHLY enjoying where it’s going, at least as of this episode.

I’m a kill-your-darlings kind of person, and I wish the editing of the first five episodes of this show were tighter. I’ve been okay with the long episodes -- but at least for this latest episode, most of the length was spent building out Pat and his life himself, as opposed to the investment of his world and the side stories (no Ae in this latest episode).

In regards to this focus on Pat: I like how honest Pat is. As Jeng comments on Pat needing to control his emotions, there are benefits to being so honest as well, right? Pat’s honesty gets him out of the MLM thing with Kong (what the fuck, lol). Pat’s honesty went straight to Put regarding their past (PUT, THAT PUTZ, LEAVE MY PAT ALONE), to the point that Pat APOLOGIZED for his honesty.

And -- what I REALLY liked about this episode is that JENG NOTICED PAT’S HONESTY, and encouraged it, and is encouraging it.

So this whole storyline about addressing one’s weaknesses, and working on changing them? Behavioral change, m’fers -- literally the hardest thing for us humans to do.

When I went back to grad school to enter the social services, the behavioral change chart was probably my favorite thing to learn. The five stages of change are: pre-contemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance. Each one is a step that a therapist will work with a client on to determine readiness -- say, you’re quitting smoking, or starting a diet, or starting to exercise. These are the stages that you’d go through to make that change of action possible.

What I like about what Step By Step is doing is demonstrating that this kind of real, deep, in-your-bones change can’t happen just by yourself, and can’t happen in a vacuum. Behavioral change happens in the context of everything else, and everyONE else, going on in one’s life. You have to learn to navigate that, balance it out, live with it -- and I’m seeing, now, what the long episodes meant, to set that up for us, so that we can get a TRULY deep understanding of who Pat is.

And all in the meantime, we’re also seeing Jeng’s story, Jeng slowly letting his guard down, melting a bit for Pat, and learning how to engage with Pat more intimately to, yes, get closer to Pat -- but also for Jeng himself to learn how to be more empathetic. For Jeng to learn how to change himself, as well.

I loved that Saturday date. They’re so awkward! But I love that awkwardness. (And, I love love love the authenticity of Pat, as he’s NOT awkward with Ae, Chot, Jaab, and his other homies, and I love that the show shows that for us.)

Pat and Jeng are learning about each other, THROUGH their boundaries as boss-employee, and DESPITE those boundaries. Pat’s gonna move slow, we now know, because he got so burned by Putz in the past. And Pat probably doesn’t have a single idea of what to do when your boss is putting the moves on you -- which is okay, and we’ll get to see Pat learn about himself through it, step by step, which is.... the point of the show, ha.

Speaking of the moves, my man, Pat -- as @bengiyo noted in his stray thoughts, I LOVE THAT PAT HAS A FAN CLUB. Hell yeah. THAT’S REAL! Dudes hitting you up, Pat? You’re cute! I love that.

AND, AND: I LOVE THAT PAT’S NOT RUNNING AWAY FROM IT. HE PRIMPED FOR KONG! He looked DAMN good for Putz. FUCK YEAH, dude! Show up and hit the streets! You’re wanted.

Um? @shortpplfedup, you’re right. This is an adult show, by adults, and even for adults. This is an adult deal that Pat has on his plate. He’s not a loner, not by any means, and I LOVE that that’s a reality that’s depicted for Pat’s life as a young, out, queer man. Own that shit, dude.

And I love that we will hopefully see more behavioral change in the next episode -- as Pat seems to get critiqued at work, and needs to figure out how to process it, with Jeng at his side, continuing to help Pat through his changes.

I remain just the slightest bit suspicious of the continued long lengths of the episodes, but I’m invested in this show. I’m in another rewind situation, as I haven’t seen TharnType or Lovely Writer yet, so this is my first go-around with Tee Bundit. I’ll likely understand more of what I’m watching when I get to those two past shows, eventually. But for now, I’m liking the risks that Tee is taking, and I’m willing to swallow my criticism for sharper editing to see how Jeng and Pat develop. I like this depth, even despite the time it’s taking.

Bonus points for explaining the rating and whether it's conditional.

Age gap: +8

Age gap is a pretty compelling trope for me, mainly due to the power dynamic differences and how those get addressed. In a dark fic, the power imbalance can make for good whump/angst if the writer really leans into. In a more romantic/fluff setting though, addressing the age gap and the power dynamics in a healthy manner is practically a requirement for me to enjoy the fic. In a pwp/smut setting, sometimes it's just hot to have an older person guiding a younger one.

Codependency: +3

Co-dependency can be a compelling trope for me, but I won't seek it out unless it's from an author I know and love, or it's recommended to me by someone who shares my tastes. If it's darkfic co-dependency though, sign me the fuck up, maximum whump and unhealthy dynamics let's gooooooooooooo.

Obsession/Possessiveness, jealousy: +10

Love this trope. Love it in dark fic when things get dicey between the two love interests and there's a power struggle, but I also love it when someone kills someone just because they hurt their lover, amazing trope. A++++++++

Opposites (grumpy/sunshine etc): +20

99% of all my favorite ships are some combination of this in canon and in fic. Give me all of it, all day, every day.

Enemies to lovers, Enemies with benefits: +10

Big sucker for this trope in all forms. I love antagonism that turns into something else and then oh no, we have to actually communicate about things. Or not. Or, for maximum angst purposes, a betrayal happens. (can ya'll sense a trend yet lmaooooo)

Friends with benefits: +5

Big fan of this trope in a PWP setting, but for anything else, it must also be accompanied by (see below trope) or I probably won't be super interested in the fic.

Sex to feelings: +10

Absolutely love this trope. Sex first, communication second. Lots of room for misunderstandings and heart to hearts.

Fake dating/relationship: +5

Fake dating is my guilty pleasure and I adore it but it's not a drop everything and read it sort of thing for me. It's gotta be propped up by some of the other tropes for me to find it compelling.

Friends to lovers: +5

Same as with fake dating. There's gotta be something else in there to make it more compelling to me, but I do love reading it (and writing it!)

Found Family: 0

This trope used to be a +10 for me but I think I've burned out on it over the last few years lol. Too many antis have used the excuse "ew you can't ship them, they're part of the same found family so it's incest!" and I am just...tired lol.

Not to mention so much fic I've read is often just the female and/or poc characters propping up the white mlm ship and slapping "found family" on the tags.

That said, I'm still a sucker for the trope as a whole, just not so much in fanfic.

Hurt/Comfort: +10

ANGST ANGST ANGST. My bread and butter. Give me all the hurt/comfort. Or hurt with minimal comfort. I love having my heart wrung out.

Love Triangle: -10

Unless the love triangle resolves into a polyship do not even show me a love triangle fic lol.

Poly, open relationships: +10

A++++++++++ trope. No notes.

Mistaken/hidden identity: 0

Mistaken and hidden identity to me are two TOTALLY DIFFERENT THINGS but I digress. Not my favorite trope and won't go seeking it out. This kind of goes hand in hand with amnesia fic too I think. I have read some AMAZING ones, but that's like 1 out of every 50 I try to give a chance to lol

Monsterfucking: +100000000000000000000000

Just, yes. Proud monsterfucker always and forever.

Pregnancy: -5

Meh lol. I like kidfic quite a bit, but pregnancy is just not that interesting to me in fic. I think the one exception to this is maybe omegaverse pregnancy fic, but I think that has more to do with the fact that I'm a slut for omegaverse worldbuiding than anything else. Human pregnancy though, could take it or leave it.

Second Chance: +5

I really don't care for this trope as a whole, however I have read some amazing ones recently for Dreamling so it's I'm giving it some points. This is probably due to the fact that I am also a slut for angst hahahaha.

Slowburn: +7

I love a good slow burn but I am also impatient as fuck so I'm docking some points from the full +10 hahahaha. Bless authors for 100k slowburn fics, you are the backbones of fandom.

Soulmates: +10

I LOVE SOULMATES. I love true mates, I love all the lore around having one person be your other half. But I also love people who subvert the trope in fun ways, people whose soulmates have died, people who don't marry their soulmates, immortal soulmates, people born without soulmarks, worlds where soulmates aren't perfect and sometimes your soulmate is also your worst enemy. I may love the subversions more than the actual trope come to think about it lmao.

A roleplaying podcast done by the McElroys. The first campaign, Balance, is a fantasy story with things like elves and dwarves. The second campaign, Amnesty, is a modern-day story in West Virginia with things like Bigfoot and the Mothman. Both of them are very good and very gay. Straight-laced Brad and his fiance Janet’s car breaks down during a storm. Luckily for them, they stumble upon the mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a drag queen scientist, where they meet several other interesting characters, including Frank-N-Furter’s new creation, a man named Rocky, and lose their innocence. Think 1950s sci-fi meets 1970s sexual revolution or if Frankenstein was a musical.

You probably know about this musical through the whole “I don’t want to do the work today” vine. What that vine leaves out is that the show is about prehistoric bisexuals and their discovery of fire. Uploaded by the creator on Youtube for free.

A sci-fi horror podcast about a strange Western town called Night Vale and what goes on in it. Features a main gay character and lots of the side characters are also LGBT. There are several books that focus on different parts of the universe that you can also read.

Brooklyn 99 // tv show, mlm, wlw

Weirdly, I haven’t seen this show put on any LGBT media recs before. The show follows the 99th precinct of the New York police department. While the main character is not gay himself (although he is either bi or EXTREMELY comfortable in his sexuality), his boss, the police captain, is an openly gay black man married to another man and one of the supporting characters later comes out as bisexual and has relationships with women. Overall, a very funny show that also offers a good commentary on issues that we deal with in society today.

Rock and Riot // webcomic, wlw, mlm, trans, ace

Follows two rival gangs from the 1950s and their struggles with understanding their sexual orientation and gender identity. A little bit of period typical homophobia and racism but not so much that its a bummer.

Professor Marston and the Wonder Woman // movie, nsfw, wlw

Contrary to what the title may lead you to believe, this is not a DC Universe movie. It’s actually about the creator of Wonder Woman and the lie detector and his polyamorous relationship with the two women who inspired Wonder Woman.

Shameless // tv show, nsfw, mlm, wlw, trans

Focusing on the Gallager family, a low-income family from Chicago and their struggle to survive. One of the main characters, Ian, is openly gay and has had many relationships throughout the series, most notably his on-again-off-again relationship with Mickey Milkovich. Disclaimer: there are some scenes with some pretty brutal homophobia that can be very hard to watch. Also let’s just say that when Ian was a minor, not all of his relationships were with other minors.

Alice Isn’t Dead // podcast, book, wlw

Keisha becomes a truck driver to find her missing wife who had been presumed dead (Alice). Because as it turns out, Alice isn’t dead. A very good horror mystery that captures American road trip gothic better than most pieces of media. Also has a book adaptation.

The Favourite // movie, wlw

A 1920s style webcomic except homophobia doesn’t exist and neither does color, at least not for the proletariat. A group of people join together to change that (the color thing, not the homophobia thing). A very good representation of a variety of identities.

About the famous American poet Allen Ginsberg, his relationship with Lucien Carr, the beginning of the Beat generation of poetry, and the murder of David Krammer. Again with the period typical homophobia but nothing too extreme or disturbing.

What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?*

Ghost/Roach. I don’t get the characterizations that fandom provides for them, and as time goes on I’ve come to appreciate them more as a BROTP than any of the typical boxes that fandom fits them into. I also don’t get Toarcher unless it’s Kelly and Sass’s brand tbh.

Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?

Nah in this fandom we ride together or you die a pedophile or their apologist. No inbetweens.

Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?*

Soap/Ghost. Don’t get me wrong, I ship it with Chals and I ship it hard, but there’s a lot of disgusting rape fic out there, and I fucking despise it. It’s soured the more mainstream ship for me to the point I only appreciate it as a facet of shipping my Soap muse.

Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?*

I used to like Shepherd bashing but tbh it’s so on the nose and flies in the face of canon in most fics that I just... stop. Stop making him an obvious mustache twirling villain, stop making characters dump on him as C.O., stop having characters suspect he’s evil or untrustworthy just because you know what happens in Loose Ends. It’s lazy. I hate Shepherd as much as you but this is a shitty trope and you all know it.

Most disliked character(s)? Why?

I actually kind of love what everyone brings to the table in canon? MW is one of the few COD games where I don’t have particularly strong feelings of loathing towards any one character -- I can even write Shepherd and Makarov as multi-faced in my fics despite how loathsome they are, because I do think they are well-rounded and fascinating as characters in terms of the narrative.

Honestly it’s Makarov’s mooks here. Not the Inner Circle but the likes of Volk, Waraabe, Rojas, etc. No character, no purpose but to move the plot along and build levels around... So much more could have been done here, and we get none of it.

Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?

Hi have you met my sons Kamarov and Yuri? I love them. They’re my children. Yuri is my absolute darling, and Kamarov is a former muse of mine. I’ve sene lots of bashing of each, and even more sympathetic Yuri portrayals tend to oust him as a side character or wildly OOC. It’s at the point I only trust Tin and my fellow COD RP veterans in writing him because no one does my baby boy right.

Unpopular opinion about the manga/show?

if you mean tinmeshi’s shitty, shitty rape doujins then my unpopular opinion is that we need to burn them all and make the original artist pay for the cost of clean up.

Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen…

Hey what if Soap’s death wasn’t a cheap cop out to tug at the player’s heart strings and he got to be more than the sacrificial lion designed to make us hate a character we already hate even more and motivate Price to kill Makarov even though he’s wanted to do that for two games? What if Yuri got more of a character arc? What if Makarov and Price had a real showdown instead of Dust to Dust? Man I’d do so much don’t test me I’m already writing ten canon divergent fics at any one time.

What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?

The constant infantilizing of Roach, a grown ass man and special ops soldier who kills for a living. The constant character assassination that is Ghost as an aggressor or predator, especially sexually. The constant fetishization of mlm or the use of gay relationships as a punchline or to highlight how a villain is a deviant. I am so tired. I am so tired of so many tropes the fandom uses and how long they have stuck around.

What are your thoughts on crack ships?

Everything is a crack ship. For fuck’s sake. The characters are 2d paper dolls we can project anything on to, including preferences and headcanons. Ship away, everything in here is a crack ship.

Unpopular character you love?

YURI! AND! KAMAROV! MY! LADS!

How would you end XXX/Would you change the ending of XXX?

Motherfucker I would completely scrap MW3 and rewrite huge swathes of that game, do not fucking start with me. Starting with more villainous Price, an American campaign divided between Team Metal working to help the still on the run as criminals Soap and Price and the Rangers taking the war to Russia and hunting down ‘terrorists’ like Soap and Price, Yuri having more important things to do in the story, Soap living but being out of commission, Makarov not going down without a fight just LET ME WRITE THIS YOU ASSHOLES I WANNA WORD GOOD.

Least shippable character?

They’re military grade paper dolls idgaf. Viktor mb? I don’t want to imagine him shipped. I’d sooner imagine Papa Imran and his wife starting some revolution and thus ‘ship’ Imran with whatever partner he has in canon than consider Viktor with a shipmate for a single instant.
