Phil: We need to give you a slit because we did a charity stream for Palestine and it's time to reap what you sow because you said you'd get a slit after we're all doomed, which you've filmed and now you have to slit it up. Any last words?
Dan: Why the fuck are you putting a hat on?
Phil *now with The End doomed merch cap*: It's my slit hat.
Dan: Okay, what does that-
Phil: I'm like a tattoo artist, I need to have the edgy energy. Wait *fixes hair*. There we go.
Dan: Yeah. Okay.
Phil: Are we ready? Can I get a "slit" in the chat?
Dan *whining*: No, what does that mean?
Phil: Slit, slit, slit!
Dan: Phil, do you know how to use this razor? Let's have a serious conversation here.
Phil: I do.
Dan: You are about to apply that *razor turned on, Phil playing around*. Stop looking at what your hair looks like with the fucking hat! You're about to do something to my face!
Phil: Okay. Which side do you want?
Dan: Phil. Right. Okay, let's talk about that. I feel like I've got an earring this side, so the slit should be there (opposite).
Phil: And where do you want it through?
Dan: I want it there. Do you see this, Phil? Like yours, it's like the arch of the thing.
Phil: Yeah!
Dan: It should be like that. You can't do it too far down, so people can't see the slit.
Phil: It's going to be more to the middle.
Dan: Okay. And Phil? Don't hurt me.
Phil: How could I hurt you?
Dan: Because you're about to apply a fucking shaver to my face!
Phil: And how do I use it? Do I just go *buzzing sound*?
Dan: Okay, you do it once and then you hold it there for a second and then you stop. You don't move. You don't slice.
Phil: No slicing.
Dan: You don't shuffle. Okay?
Phil: Can you look at me a little bit? Like side angle?
Dan: Wait, wait, I'm going to come back.
Phil: Yeah. We're ready? No, face me more.
Dan *flinches*: Don't- Phil!
Phil: You can't flinch!
Dan: Moment.
Phil: Yeah.
Dan: Don't think about the chat.
Phil: I'm not.
Dan: Don't think about what you look like in your hat.
Phil: I'm not.
Dan: I want you to concentrate.
Phil: I'm concentrating.
Dan: Seriously concentrate. Take a moment.
Phil: I am!
Dan: You're not doing a bit, you're doing my face.
Phil: I know I'm doing your face.
Dan: Fuck my life.
Phil: Look at me a tiny bit *gently moves closer, Dan barely holding in a laugh*. Shut up!
Dan: Why does it feel like you've completely changed the orientation of the razor?
Phil: I've done it! I've done it. Wait, wait. Does it? Ohh!
Dan: Ooh?
Phil: It looks good! It looks good, Dan!
Dan: Does it?
Phil: Yeah! It's quite wide. It's quite a wide slit *laughing*.
Dan: It's quite- Phil. Phil Lester just gave me a wide slit.
Phil: It's more pronounced than mine.
Dan: Oh my-please stop saying I have a pronounced slit. Fuck.
Phil: It looks good though.
Dan: Does it?
Phil: Yeah, you look like you've got an edge to you.
Dan: And now I look like I have an edge and I didn't before?
Phil: Yeah.
Dan: Okay.
Phil: That's great. What do we think in the chat? Matching slits.
Dan: Fuck my ass, what do I look like? I cannot see on this camera.
*proceeds to check up close in camera and it sure it a wide slit*

the calm waters / percy jackson x daughter of amphitrite! reader.
a / n : i love the trope of married gods' children falling in love. and i will shamelessly write about it!!!!
warnings : cursing, blood, fighting, stoll twins being icons!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"y/n, we need you on the arena!" connor stoll called, rushing to you.
you were in the lake, meditating in the water to find inner peace or something, or just to be away from the camp's chaos. well, as you can see, your plan was doomed.
you sighed as you stepped outside of the waters, standing on the dock with the help of some waves. you weren't even wet, still in your dry camp tank top and blue shorts. "what happened this time, stoll?" you asked, hands resting on your hips.
"percy is beating one of my step brother so fucking bad," he panted out, and you didn't wait for him to finish for rushing to arena.
there was a big crowd, which made a big circle in the middle of the arena. you pushed away some kids to reach where percy was. and boy, the view was not good.
percy was on top of the poor kid, punching him non stop. the guy was already bleeding but percy seemed to go feral, and you wondered what could the boy have possibly done to make him this mad.
everyone was too scared to stop him, even the ares kids wasn't doing anything. and you knew you had to do something before he basically killed the boy.
"alright percy, that's enough." you yelled, grabbing percy's arm harshly to make him stand up. he stopped the minute he heard your voice, only panting now and giving death stares to the boy who fainted on the ground.
"he fucking deserved it." he growled, not looking at you. you kept him away from the boy as the apollo kids moved the kid away, immediatly to the infirmary.
"does it matter?" you held his face in your palms, expression serious. "control yourself."
the words seemed to have an affect on him, to a level of charmspeaking. his expression softed as his eyes met yours, quick breaths slowing too. "you're more than that." you spoke again, as the crowd standed far behind you.
as you both kept talking, mostly you calming percy down, and him easly melting under your touch, the stoll brothers stared at you both.
"i wonder how she can calm him down this easy." travis said, stooding beside his twin. they knew their brother were wrong, and they didn't liked the boy anyway.
"because of their parents, y/n is the daughter of amphitrite." connor explained, but from travis' expression, he knew his brother didn't understand what he meant. connor rolled his eyes before he continue to speak again.
"do you know why she's married with poseidon?" he asked, and travis shook his head as in 'no.'
"because, poseidon was a maniac back then," connor said, hitting his head. "and zeus made him marry with amphitrite to calm his temper down, which, it worked perfectly."
travis' expression changed, "oohhh," he smirked, crossing his arms like his brother. "i get it know. power of the love and all."
conner chuckled, shaking is head. "whatever this is, it's working and i'm glad. percy is no better than his dad, in fact, he's worst."
travis looked at him with his usual mischief. "well, we're glad he has his wife around him yeah?"
connor laughed. "totally."
the twins watched you go to the lake, diving in the water professionally.

The Art of Etiquette Part 8 | Jeon Jungkook
Tumblr media
Summary: Finishing up your shopping trip goes off without a hitch but Jungkook reminds you of what's going on between you two Pairing: f!reader x Etiquette instructor Jungkook Word Count: 4k~ Warnings: Explicit and suggestive language but nothing crazy lol a/n: This took me literally forever to get out and I'm so sorry but I hope it was worth the wait. I wanted to wrap up this trip quickly and move on but I like the thought of them shopping together so I hope you guys do too! p.s. barely edited as always lol Start from the beginning
After finishing our lunch and finally finding the perfect dress for the event, Jungkook and I head off on our next adventure, bidding adieu to Genevieve once again.
"So, what's next on the list?" I question after he starts the car and pulls out of the parking lot. "Well what's a beautiful girl in a beautiful gown without a beautiful pair of shoes and jewelry to match?" he teases and continues on our journey to wherever he has in mind.
"I guess you're right" I say, sinking into my seat and trying my best not to melt from his compliments.
He hands me the aux again giving me free reign of the soundtrack of our journey and I play some random choices that have been my current favorites which also happen to be some of his as well.
"Seems like we're a lot more similar than I thought we were" I laugh after having sung along to boyfriend by Ariana Grande. "What makes you say that?" he says turning down the volume a bit. "Well we like some of the same music, we like the same foods, we both hated a majority of those dresses I tried on" I list off leaving him chuckling a bit at the last one.
"Can you blame me? You looked like a glorified ballerina in half of those and the others just looked way too painful to wear for a few minutes let alone a few hours" he says and I respect his honesty.
"I'm glad we found 'The One' eventually" I say in quotations, still not 100% sold on it yet. "You didn't like it?" he asks, looking genuinely concerned. "If you didn't like it we could've talked to her and seen if she could've ordered a different one" he says, quickly showing me that there's time to change things if I'm still unsure.
"No, no the dress is fine it's just...well I haven't ever worn a gown like that before. The closest thing I could think of would be a dress I wore to a school dance but that obviously was no where near as expensive as that one" I ramble leaving him chuckling at my nervousness.
"What's so funny?" I ask, furrowing my brow and demanding an explanation. "It's just that you look adorable" he chuckles leaving me groaning and sinking back into my chair. "Hey I'm serious you looked very beautiful in the dress and I promise you're gonna look stunning at the event as well" he assures, trying to lift my spirits and it does the trick thankfully.
'Who am I to doubt a gorgeous man's words of praise? I just I- What? I- Okay I need to stop thinking about him like that but it's hard not to when he keeps on calling me beautiful and gorgeous and ugh I'm doomed' I scold myself, leaving me averting my vision from him to take in the beautiful view outside my window, just now realizing in how truly gorgeous it looks out here.
"Everything okay?" he asks, noticing my clear shift in demeanor and I quickly try to clear things up without making things even more awkward. "Yeah no I'm fine. I feel like I never really looked outside my window on this drive since I was sleeping the first time we came here" I explain, hoping he'll accept that as an answer and although he looks suspicious he lets it go.
"You know, I've been out here so many times that I've forgotten to look around as well. It's a nice drive for sure" he agrees and we sit there for a while, going down the highway and listening to the slow hum of my playlist in the background.
~~~~~
As we get closer to the city I realize that I still have no clue where we're going to get these accessories he had mentioned but I didn't think we would be going to a little couture boutique that I've never bothered setting foot inside. Simply knowing for a fact I would never be able to afford anything.
"You sure we should start there? I mean I'm sure there are a lot more affordable places close by" I say, trying to back my way out of it but he gently guides me inside and nods his head politely in greeting to the sales women there as we walk through the doors.
"James wants you to have the best of the best and feel confident at your first outing so he wanted us to start at the top. Just take a deep breath and don't look at the prices alright" he coaches before leaving me to wander around in search of the perfect shoes when unbeknownst to me he's already gotten one of the ladies headed to the back to grab a few pairs that might match the dress.
"You're size eight in heels correct?" he asks, putting on an heir of sophistication since we're no longer alone. "Correct" I answer as I look at the various colors, styles and flashiness of all the items around me as I make my way further and further into the store.
"Mr. Jeon?" the woman calls for him and he leads me over to where she's placed the various pairs that he thought might've been suitable for the occasion.
"See any you like?" he asks, watching as I observe the array he had chosen and I pick a plain black pair to start. "These seem nice" I say as I try it on for size and notice they're a tad too tight. "You think they would match the dress well though?" he questions and when I think back to it I realize that we should probably keep looking.
~~~~~~
After trying on a dozen more I feel as though we'll never find the right ones until I notice a pair that's on display in the front window. "What about those ones?" I ask, pointing to them and he waves the woman down that had been helping us and she nods before going to retrieve them for me.
"You're in luck Miss, these are the last pair we have. They are a half size small but go ahead and try them on" she says, placing the box down on the bench beside me.
When I go to take them out Jungkook places his hand on top of mine and I pause, looking over at him to question his motives. "Allow me?" he offers and I nod my head, caught off guard but letting him do as he pleases.
He takes off the last pair I had just tried on and slips the first shoe on with ease, almost as if they had been made for me. Once he's gotten the other shoe on as well he steps back and holds out his hand, asking me to stand up and walk around in this last hopeful pair. I do as I had done time and time again this but lose my footing as I take my first step.
"Woah there" he says, letting me fall into his chest, avoiding any further injury for the day. "Are you alright?" he asks and when I lean back to respond my breath catches in my throat, nudging my nose against his.
"I- um yeah, yes I'm fine" I stammer after having stared at his lips for a beat too long, stepping back and again losing my footing leaving him having to grab me by my hips to steady me again. "Maybe we should take a break from the shoes for the day" he chuckles and I look down at my feet with an excuse of checking out the heels like I had before but noticing that these might actually work.
Taking a closer look in the mirror I watch myself walk up to it and notice that for once I don't look like a baby gazelle learning how to walk for the first time while also realizing that the color and style matches somehow perfectly after having seen them up close.
I turn to look back at Jungkook and see a satisfied smile, knowing that we've found the ones. "Those it?" he questions, still leaving the choice up to me and I smile and nod, loving the fact that our efforts were not in vain.
He makes a nod at the sales woman, asking her to ring them up while he walks up behind me. Looking at our reflection I notice that although these heels are a tad bit higher than my usual ones he's still taller which makes them even more perfect.
"You tired?" he asks, placing a hand on my hip after taking in the sight of the both of us and guiding me back over to the bench so I can finally put my own shoes back on, leaving me thanking my past self for wearing boots instead of some sort of heel as well.
"A little" I say after having slipped my feet back into the boots, standing up and yet again losing my footing, this time only giving Jungkook the chance to grab onto my hand as I thankfully sit right back down on the bench instead of landing on the floor.
"Tried on one too many huh?" he laughs, holding my hand to now aide in steading my balance from the start making me smile awkwardly in thanks for him yet again saving me from my clumsy self. "Yeah maybe" I laugh, picking up my bag and we slowly make our way over to the counter where he pays without bothering to ask for a price.
"How much were they?" I ask, trying to look over his shoulder to see if I could catch sight of it but before I'm able to the transaction has gone through and they're holding out the bag for one of us to take and Jungkook swiftly receives it before taking ahold of my hand again and thanking the staff as we make our way to the next store.
"Don't worry about it" he says and guides us aimlessly towards the place I could only assume is to find the jewelry to pull everything together. "What do you mean don't worry about it? I'm sure they were really expensive" I argue but that gets me no closer to getting the price than if I would've stayed silent.
"The invoice will be sent to Matthew and will be charged to James so don't worry about it" he says, assuring me that although he paid this isn't coming out of his pocket. "Fine" I huff and follow him blindlessly before stopping in my tracks in front of the next store.
"What's wrong?" he asks, looking back at me as we've still got our hands connected leaving him stopping as well. "Jungkook this is Cartier like Cartier the luxury jewelry brand" I say, stunned at even the thought of owning something as expensive as what I might find there.
"I am aware. Would you prefer to go to Tiffany instead?" he asks, pointing out the Tiffany blue store just a few doors down. "No! I mean no, it's just that this is all so expensive I feel like I could get away with wearing something a lot less pricey than this" I say, trying to explain my way out of adding another dollar to what I assume is the already exorbitant total.
"Like I said, James wants the best for you and I'm sure your mother is going to enjoy looking at the pieces you've gotten as well" he says placing a hand on my lower back and guiding me in again were we're met with an overwhelming amount of silver and gold and everything in between all enclosed in glass cases.
"I think these would be perfect thank you" Jungkook says after we've agreed upon a set that would again match the dress but isn't too crazy flashy so it couldn't be used again.
"Are we all done?" I question, not being able to think of another thing that we could possibly need. "We just need to make one more stop" he says and I nod my head, going with the flow since against my best efforts I haven't been able to convince him to stop spending more and more money on me.
"I thought we were done with the jewelry shopping" I say, as we walk towards the Tiffany store he had mentioned before. "James wanted to get you one last thing as some sort of a thank you for being a good sport and going through all of these lessons or something like that. Anyways he already ordered it so we just need to pick it up" he says and I nod my head, following him in.
Wandering around the store while he talks to the employee about said gift I find myself staring at one necklace in particular and being fascinated by it's simplistic yet elegant look. "Find something you like?" Jungkook whispers in my ear leaving me flinching and taking a step back bumping into him in the process.
"Stop doing that" I groan and he laughs before leaning in and checking out the case trying to follow my line of sight. "Excuse me, can she try on this necklace?" Jungkook asks, calling the man over that he had spoken to earlier and he nods and makes his way behind to counter we're standing at.
"I was just looking" I try to deny him but he nevertheless nods when the man points to the silver necklace with the small teardrop shaped diamond pendant. He hands it to Jungkook and I look down at it in his hand and see that it looks even prettier up close.
"You sure you don't wanna try it on?" he asks with a knowing smile and I give him a bashful one back before he nods his head towards the mirror sitting on the courter. I turn around to face it while moving my hair out of the way so he can put it on for me and I immediately fall in love with it.
 He watches my eyes light up in the reflection and nods to the salesman to ring us up for this one as well before even giving me a chance to refuse. I look at the necklace for a while longer, taking in how it looks at different angles and am shocked at how much a small little diamond like that could shine so bright and before I'm able to say a word to him about giving it back he's asking me if I'm ready to go.
"Let me just give this back and I'll be right there" I say, reaching around my neck to take it off but he walks up and takes my hands down and shakes his head.
"No, James already got me something from here. I couldn't possibly get another piece as well. I feel as if I'm taking advantage of his kindness" I say, feeling more and more guilty as I imagine how many zeros have been added to the total for this stupid ball.
"You're not taking advantage of it I promise. Trust me, if anyone else in your position was given free reign to get whatever they thought they 'needed' for one event they probably would've maxed out the card before leaving the first store" he jokes and I smile at his efforts, still feeling incredibly guilty.
"Okay" I mouth silently and he holds out his hand, leading me out of the store again.
"Jungkook" I call for his attention, curious about something. "Yes?" he answers, stopping so he can look at me properly while I speak to him. "Why have you been holding my hand so much today?" I ask him, leaving him loosening his hold but me tightening mine in response making his worried expression that was once there disappear.
"I just thought it would be easier for you to follow me especially since it's been a bit crowded today. I didn't want to lose you" he says, looking down at our conjoined hands and smiling, seeing how I have no intention of letting go.
"Well it's not crowded anymore" I say, looking around at the path we had once traveled. "Sorry I guess it was just a reflex of mine I did not mean to-" "It's fine. I was just teasing you" I say, squeezing his hand, switching roles and leading him to where his car is parked.
"We're going home right?" I ask and without realizing it the simple words had made his heart flutter a bit leaving him clearing his throat before responding. "Yes, I assume your mother is waiting for you to come home for dinner so I'll go ahead and drop you off now if you'd like?" he asks, leaving it open ended as if he wanted to spend more time together.
"Oh was there something else we had to do?" I ask, curious to see if he had something in mind. "No nothing, I just thought you might've wanted to get a coat or shall of some sort since the weather is still rather cold these days" he says, no doubt coming up with an excuse to cover up his motives.
"Sure, I'd love that" I say, smiling up at him and notice how red the tips of his ears have gotten, making me even more happy I said yes to staying with him a while longer.
He smiles in response and leads us to the first store he can think of that might have something I'd like and as we go through rack by rack we get to talking more casually and before we know it the stores are about to close.
"Let's get you home" he says walking us back to his car where he opens the door for me yet again before driving off.
~~~~~~
"Thank you so much for all of your help today. I feel as though I would've been lost without you" I admit as we pull up to my house. "I am aware" he says, giving me a mischievous smile before getting out of the car to open the door for me again.
"Hey! I was trying to be nice and then you go and act al-" "All what?" he teases, cutting me off as he helps me out of the car, leaning against it and trapping me, granting me little to no room to escape even if I tried. "All cocky" I say, lifting my chin up and being confident in my words, full well knowing I'm melting on the inside.
"Is that so? I guess we've skipped the lesson of getting rid of that dirty little mouth of yours now haven't we?" he taunts, cocking a brow at me and it takes everything in me not to fall to my knees and suck him off right now.
I nod my head and he tongues his cheek before glancing down at my lips and pushing off the car, giving me room to breathe only for a moment before pulling me into him, moving me out of the way so he can close the passenger door behind me.
"Let's get you inside. It's past your bedtime Princess" he rasps in my ear before letting go of me and walking towards my house leaving me standing there speechless, leaving me standing there for a minute, trying to take in everything that just transpired.
'Princess? Where does he get off calling me Princess and why the hell did it make me want him even more? I swear this man is trying to kill me' I think to myself before he calls after me telling me to hurry up.
"Coming!" I say and mentally curse myself, 'Really? Out of all the things you could've said you said that?' and I can tell that Jungkook's thinking the same thing as he grants me with another cheeky smile before knocking on the front door.
One of the maids answers the door and Jungkook asks her if there's someone who can get all the bags out of the car and she scurries off and grabs someone to do so.
"Oh there you are! I thought you would've been back ages ago!" my mother says as she walks up to us, clearly more excited to see Jungkook than she is to see me. "She didn't give you any trouble did she?" she asks, giving me a once over before turning her attention back to him.
"No, on the contrary she was itching to finish up sooner but I wanted to make sure we had everything she needed before bringing her home. It's been a pleasure spending time with her outside of the classroom and helping make sure she's more than ready for the ball" he says, merely glancing at my mother before looking back at me, my eyes going back and forth between the two of them, feeling shy under his gaze again.
I swear he always does this right before he leaves because he likes to watch me squirm. What happened to the pure kind man that I had just been with today? Now suddenly replaced by the devilish tempter just daring me to make a move on him.
After my mother has thanked him and tried to persuade him to come in for a while with him trying to refuse and I come to his aide and shoo my mother away.
"Mom I think I've taken up more than enough of his time today don't you? I'll walk you out" I say quickly, grabbing him by the arm and dragging him out while he says his goodbyes to her.
"You trying to get rid of me?" he teases, amused by my hurried solution to ending the conversation. "No I just figured there must be something better for you to do than deal with my mother and her antics" I say and he chuckles in response only stopping when I've finished dragging him all the way to the driver's side of his car.
"Thank you for everything today, really" I say looking down at the gravel under our feet, holding my breath and waiting for that cocky response again but it never comes. "It was truly a pleasure I assure you of that" he says, hooking a finger under my chin to bring my eyes up to him.
My eyes dart back and forth between his and he leans in again just as he did last night this time giving me an almost featherlight kiss, hardly anything more than brushing his lips against mine, making my breath hitch, frozen and spellbound by his touch.
"Goodnight Princess" he says against my lips, still barely there but enough to feel his touch as his breath warms my lips, feeling frozen once he's pulled away and sat down in his car.
"G-goodnight Mr. Jeon" I let out, barely able to break free from the mental hold he has on me making him chuckle at my reaction before giving me once last glance. Dragging his eyes up and down my form before pulling out of the driveway, leaving me feeling utterly naked under his heated gaze.
As I walk back up I see my mother scurrying down the hallway, no doubt trying to hide the fact that she had been spying on us but I wouldn't expect anything less from her.
No matter how much she tries to hide it at the end of the day she's really just a busybody that loves to gossip but I've grown tired of it. Not even bothering to care if she sees. With the way Jungkook and I have been playing this push and pull for a while it'll only be a matter of time before we end up together.
Or at least I hope we do...
It dosen't really matter that Percy isn't hurt by Annabeth insulting him all the time and sometimes even being physically violent to him(he should be because that's a realistic response from an abuse and bullying survivor but i digress),not just because he's a fictional character and not a real person with free will,but also because that's Annabeth's way of showing she fucking hates him.Her treatment of him has literally not changed since they were 12 yet nobody in this dumbass fandom can shut up about how ~developed~ their relathionship is cause they make out now and are planning on having a dysfunctional cishet marriage while trashing the characters of color for being 'annoying'.
Percy and Annabeth are not 'made for eachother' because Rick wrote everyone in-universe as telling them that and i'd like to remind y'all that this is the same guy who wrote Luke,an adult serial abuser and ped0phile,as a 'hero' because of the Great Prophecy.Destiny means jack shit and Annabeth and Percy-ESPECIALLY Percy,who's been doomed to trauma over and over again despite his best efforts to escape it-should've been allowed to choose who to love instead of having it shoved down their throats by both everyone in their franchise and the creepy weirdos in the fandom too
Hi! As someone with ADHD who's been in several abusive relationships before, I figured I'd add something about why it IS actually realistic that he doesn't appear hurt, but that's actually even more alarming. So it starts with meeting them (obviously) and especially if they don't really have any healthy romantic IRL relationships to compare it to (which the books go out of their way to emphasize that this is the case) then it can be really hard to notice when red flags like that start to come up. "Oh it'll get better!" "They're still adjusting to it!" All of which are valid! There's healthy relationships that start rough and there's relationships that start really well and then something happens that doesn't go super well and it turns bad real quick. I've been in a few of both. The problem comes when it still happens after they're asked to stop, which is what happens in Percy Jackson. This can lead to things like "Oh they're just kidding, surely they don't mean it!" "Oh that's just how they flirt/show they love me!" Which, again, is fine IF IT'S WELCOME. However if it's not then eventually it's "Oh they're just like that." "Oh it's fine I guess, it's not like I can stop it." Just because someone doesn't complain doesn't mean that they're consenting. It means they're resigned to the abuse. And that means that he's internalizing and normalizing it. "We don't hear any real negativity towards Annabeth in Percy's thoughts though!!!" Well no but we don't hear any love either. We don't ever hear any thoughts about her really ever. Nothing about how pretty she is or how cool she is or anything. Percy Jackson has thoughts about EVERYONE. As someone with ADHD, this level of no thoughts is concerning and no basis for a relationship. He deserves someone who will treat him well. She deserves someone who thinks about her fondly. Both of them deserve better but they both need to undergo some character development and serious therapy first.
Do you think Aoi will ever be able to show nene her “ugly” side and open up to her? Perhaps with the help of Akane? Or will she keep up her “popular girl” act with Nene to avoid the risk of losing her as a friend?
If we put the responsibility 100% on Aoi she will stay stuck in her popular persona forever. Aoi opening up is very important for change to be made, it is fundamental, but this friendship was built by two, and Aoi didn't get stuck in this superficial 'bubbly bff popular girl' image alone, Nene had just as much of a role keeping her in this box.
Nene lives in a fantasy and blinds herself to reality. Aoi is a big part of the idealistic high school life she desperately clings to, so even if Aoi tries to open up, Nene will either blind herself to Aoi's problems or go out of her way to shut Aoi down before the illusion is broken.
Even with the help of Akane I find it unlikely, cause 1- Akane knows this isn't his business, he let Aoi reunite with Nene alone and currently believes the two made up.
Tumblr media
And number 2, even when people call Nene out directly, Nene does not change her behavior. If she doesn't want to think about something that distresses her, she will cover her eyes and not think about it. There is A LOT to talk about when it comes to this problem of hers, but I'll keep it brief, no need to go over the whole manga for this point.
Think about her dilemma with Hanako: She is always surprised when someone calls him a murderer, either making excuses for him or unable to reply, still not making a hint of progress untangling how she personally feels regarding his murder despite this being an internal conflict that was introduced at the very start of the manga.
Why does she not have an answer? Because she doesn't want to think about it. The idea of him murdering someone is troubling and scary and not a nice fantasy at all, she doesn't want to think about it. So she doesn't think about it. Is that simple.
Nene is no longer a normal girl. But she is in denial. She still wants to believe she is a normal girl.
We can say "A lot of 15 year olds girls live in a fantasy world and are boy crazy :D" but we can't say "A lot of 15 year old girls know they'll die in 1 year, have seen ghosts being broken and doomed, nearly lost their friend cause their crush got extreme in their attempts to help, had seen the eaten remains of a possible friend (sumire), but their priority is to confess to their crush." That's not normal. That's a Nene thing.
She is determined to stay the same even when the world around her begs her to change. Begs her to sit down and think about the reality she is facing.
Tumblr media
She is shocked when she sees bad things but she doesn't allow herself to process it. The manga itself calls her out for not learning from her mistakes.
Tumblr media
She treats high-stakes scenarios as a normal high school life scenario. Fantasy may be one of Nene's charms but it is also her biggest flaw.
Nene has many moments where her reality is challenged, moments that feel like it will lead to introspection, but she never thinks about what she is told. what she sees. She doesn't want to stay mad at Hanako. She doesn't want to think about the situation. So she focuses on the no priority of "omg I need to make my crush confess!" as best she can.
Anything that is too serious or dark to fit her high school fantasy adventure will not be thought about. She is a kind person, there is no denial, but this incapability to face reality, to take off her bubbly fantasy glasses, makes her very insensitive at times.
Tumblr media
She is so far up la la land that she hasn't properly processed that Hanako is dead yet.
She non ironically says "l'll live a happy life as a dead person" at the idea of being with Hanako. Aoi's rescue is a run away narrative in her mind, a forbidden romance. She is not in reality.
Tumblr media
It is understandable to go in denial, to reject reality when reality is something you don't want to face, especially at 15, but just because it is understandable doesn't make her devoid of responsability. Nene is being a coward, her fantasies are far more charming than Aoi's brand of cowardness but she is, in her own way, still running away from her problems.
Even Hanako, who is madly in love with her, acknowledges she is self-centered and childish.
Tumblr media
Aoi being a popular queen is the embodiment of her fantasy that "being popular is amazing! Is a dream come true"
Tumblr media
So if Aoi works on the courage to speak up, if Akane calls Nene out, but Nene doesn't work on her bad habit of ignoring reality for the sake of her high school dream life, she will keep turning a blind eye to every hint she had witnessed that being popular is not a sea of roses and Aoi have problems and flaws like everyone.
Aoi had tried to talk about her ugly sides before after all.
Tumblr media
But Nene covered her eyes, dismissed the drugged Aoi she had seen as a complete fake and embracing her cute bubbly bff without asking any questions about her feelings, her behavior, etc.
She does not want Aoi to have flaws, so she won't see those flaws.
She won't change.
I talk in detail about how her fantasy problem affects her relationship with Aoi here
The Possible New Future of the Sonic Franchise - Thanks to fucking Sonadow
Tumblr media
WOW! SO…THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED 💀
A few days ago it was rumored a Sonic Generations remaster was happening and will be revealed in the State of Play, which then revealed Shadow will be playable. It was really unknown what the hell this meant, but many theorized this was going to be a Bowser’s Fury/Kirby Return case: Game from an old console is remastered/ported with a whole brand new campaign that may or may not be related and possibly intertwined with said game’s story or lore.
They were correct.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh yea did I forget to mention BLACK FUCKING DOOM IS BACK?????
Tumblr media
There isn’t much yet to go off of right now in terms of what’s being planned here besides this excerpt on steam
Tumblr media
————————————————
Alright, enough showcasing, what the hell am I talking about by this game (that was just revealed) being a new future for the Sonic franchise? Well, it’s mainly due to these two things: the usage of Black Doom, and this fucking logo
Tumblr media
A little bit of a history lesson -
Shadow the Hedgehog (2005)
….wasn’t really a well received game. Besides how many viewed it to be trying too hard to be edgy and dark and gritty, its gameplay was a lot left to be desired. Confusing and lore retconning writing, weird awkward gameplay, you probably already know by now, it was arguably where SEGA/Sonic Team got scared of doing spin-offs with other characters. The concepts and ideas were there, there were still reasons to like the game and like how Shadow improves as a character in the canonical story of the game, it was a small shiny stone in a pile of coal. Besides 06, this was the most development or focus Shadow would ever receive as a character before his massive change in writing in 2010.
Due to the 2010s change in writing style and how characters were written thanks to SEGA to avoid any association from “erm Sonic tried to be serious at one point? Cringe!”, Shadow possibly became the most controversial character of the cast, with him going from a really intriguing 3 dimensional character about trauma, loss, and trying to move on from the past, to many feeling like he’s regressed into a Furry Vegeta or a tryhard loner who doesn’t need friends to help him, the IDW comics being a big example of this. He still had a few good moments like his whole prologue in Sonic Forces, but even then it wasn’t anything intriguing like his story in Sonic 06 where he learns to accept his future might turn out shit, but he’ll always fight back with his team if things get dark (see what I did there?).
Before I continue, I would like to say - blaming Ian Flynn for how Shadow’s written in the IDW comics where he’s more brute and moody…..doesn’t seem correct, imma be real. I know he may have the occasional odd idea of the characters, but it’s very clear the way he’s written is due to certain mandates from SEGA and how characters/the world should be like. If Shadow’s whole moody brute demeanor is truly how Flynn views the character…..how does that explain how he was written in the Archie comics? aka the older comic series Flynn wrote for before SEGA started to get strict with the franchise, aka the series many believe to have had really great Shadow moments? I’m not saying there can’t be criticism for how Flynn may sometimes write characters, but in the case of him being the sole reason for how Shadow is written, that assumption made on him is a lil unfair.
Regardless, in recent times, it’s no doubt that the franchise is starting to rebuild it’s confidence again: acknowledging the old 3D games, including 06, having a more serious story with layers and depth like in Frontiers, Frontiers itself reintroducing Sonic’s friends and their struggles, making them playable once again in a 3D game (again, Shadow was cool to see in Forces but, you could only go so far with a simple reskin of Sonic). Not to mention after the update that brought back these characters, we got Sonic Superstars where the main selling point was that it was a co-op game, and Sonic Dream Team having a focus on the franchise’s more forgotten character: Cream the Rabbit (not to mention bringing back a sorta SA2-style gameplay where 6 characters were grouped into 3 styles of controls). Oh yea also prior to all that, Amy was made playable in the original Sonic genesis games via Sonic Origins.
———————————————
So, what does all that have to do with the future of the franchise, and why is Shadow 05 important here?
First off: Shadow is getting that same treatment as other friends, but possibly on an even bigger level: being a new playable character in an older title and being a big enough deal to get his own story and reintroduce people to what makes him who he is sadly no co-op gameplay but hey that would require completely changing this game from what it was initially was. This is really perfect timing as with the upcoming release of Sonic Movie 3 and Shadow being the next foe for Sonic to face off, Sonic x Shadow Generations will be a perfect title for new fans to dive into and learn more about Sonic’s history and dive further into Shadow’s history, just like what Sonic Origins was for fans who just came back from watching Sonic Movie 2.
This whole thing is also a massive implication that other characters than Sonic may start to get their own campaigns again, building more lead-ups to possibly full on spinoff games. I should say this again: Forces did try to do something with Shadow, but for the most part it was just reusing whatever the game already had to create a quick and easy 3 level prologue that…doesn’t really add all that much to the overall story (at this rate you can probably assume Forces tried to do a lot of things Sonic is now attempting to do, however due to the kinda era it came from, it didn’t have much going for it). Sonadow Generations seems like something bigger and more personal to the character involved, something that could possibly rival the OG game’s campaign.
The fact in this story, they’re going so far as to make Black Doom the main antagonist of this campaign and giving back Shadow’s tribal logo is a massive sign that this is a true attempt to revisit Shadow’s entire legacy. They could’ve easily just made his whole ordeal involve what happened in Sonic Adventure 2, after all that’s what he’s most remembered for, but going as far as to properly acknowledged a lesser known game as being part of the Sonic lore instead of dismissing it simply because it wasn’t well received, it continues to show the confidence this series has started to regain. Sure, it’s weird, it’s wacky, it’s wild, but it doesn’t make it any less something to acknowledge or at the very least make good out of something bad. While we did get hints of Shadow 05 still being part of the canon via the Eggman logs in Frontiers mentioning Black Doom, having him come back officially was still a completely wild thing to see; never in a million years would anyone have thought he would come back as the main villain.
The biggest part of this whole thing is: if SEGA is allowing for Shadow 05 to be fully acknowledged
.
this might mean they’re starting to pull back on their restrictions on the character.
——————————————
As I stated before, it is very clear they wanted nothing to do with this game or anything similar to it ever again, I mean the fact we never got any spin-offs after this really shows they weren’t gonna come back to other characters ever again. But now…everything’s on the table. If Black Doom is making an appearance, if Shadow’s tribal logo is back as part of his identity, what else could there be next? Will Shadow start to use guns again? Will he ride his motorcycle, and other vehicles like in 06? Hell, will motherfucking Mephiles come back again for this campaign?
Not to mention the description of the game stated that Shadow will confront painful memories, will we see Maria in HD getting shot, or the commander from Shadow 05 who was out to get him making a reappearance? This might be the first time in a whole decade since other human characters (not counting Sage since she isn’t exactly fully human) making an appearance again in the Sonic franchise. Again, we may have gotten hints of them still being a thing with the likes of Frontiers’ Eggman logs bringing up GUN and Maria, but actually showing up in-game means other humans can still make appearances in-game.
(Take this part with a massive grain of salt but I’ve heard that Ian Flynn in the past has expressed he wanted to bring back Black Doom and Mephiles, but SEGA didn’t allow it, now that one of them happened, it proves that there indeed has been less restrictions now)
If there are less restrictions being made on stuff like acknowledging Shadow’s game, what could this mean for how Shadow himself may be written now? We’ve seen how apparently well written Shadow was in Sonic Prime, could this carry over to the games and comics where he has a less frustrating depiction? I mean, the fact Ian Flynn was hired for one massive mainline game (Sonic Frontiers) and suddenly they’re doing all these lore related things for the franchise or going back to pull up any old stuff and see what they can do with it, it shows there is a level of trust between SEGA and Flynn and letting the man cook. And it makes complete sense too, he’s been a long time writer for the franchise since the Archie comics, he seems to have a great understanding of the characters.
If Shadow 05 is getting this level of acknowledgement, what about other more forgotten games? Will we one day see Sonic 06 be better acknowledged, or more likely a character like Silver having a bigger role in something related to the events of 06? I mean for some reason recent episode titles of the upcoming Knuckles show revealed one episode called “Flames of Disaster,” who’s to say they aren’t already looking into 06 for some ideas for not just the movie canon, but as well as the main canon?
Tumblr media
—————————————
I’m drifting off a little but I’m sure you get by now what I’m tryna say. This game, as it may seem like just a simple small remaster with extra content, may end up creating something bigger for the franchise going forward. Seeing how Sonic Team is behind this remaster and not Blind Squirrel (the people who made Sonic Colors Ultimate; while possibly rushed by SEGA, they’ve also have had a questionable track record with remasters), and hints that Flynn is behind this story, I think we are in great hands with this game. This may be the first remaster to finally be flawless in every level, which I know is a little sad to say when it comes to this 30+ year old franchise, but hey, can’t win them all!
——————————————
Before I end this comically large essay, I would like to make one final note on this whole topic. As I was writing this and taking breaks last night, I came across a tweet that was kinda starting to go around about this game.
To summarize, the tweet essentially claimed that Sonic was still stuck in the past. The franchise was still relying on nostalgia pandering as its identity, and due to the contents of Generations being a whole celebration of Sonic’s history (and what unfortunately started SEGA’s cling onto Green Hill and Chemical Plant), aka alleged nostalgia pandering, it proves the franchise’s identity is still about how when Sonic used to be cool. It hasn’t attempted to evolve in the past 14 years.
You can probably guess what my thoughts on that take is after reading this whole post.
.
.
.
.
.
No.
I don’t think so.
As I already showed, the addition of Shadow’s story more than proves this is still stepping forward. It’s taking an old beloved game and instead of just updating graphics or performance and leaving it at that, they’re making something brand new out of it that may define future ideas for other characters that isn’t about Sonic. Not to mention this game barely attempts to be all like, “Revisit all these iconic locations from your childhood!!!” SEGA is clearly looking at Generations not as that one game they can rely on for easy nostalgia pandering, but as a successful and fun game from the last decade in its own right. I mean to the general public, it’s considered to be “one of the few good Sonic games.”
It can be argued that the addition of Shadow and Black Doom may be pandering to the audience into Shadow but…really? They’re tryna solely pander and play on the nostalgia of a small minority of players who liked a game that was considered to be the start of Sonic’s downfall in the 2000s and make that the selling point of this remaster to the general public? Where some in said general public may argue that they’re about to ruin a rare good Sonic game with stuff that they think no one ever liked??? I don’t really believe it.
Hell, speaking personally, I’ve never played Shadow 05, I don’t own a GameCube, maybe a PS2 but even then I didn’t get much games at the time. While I sorta played around with the franchises growing up, I fully got into it around when Sonic Mania came out (and even then it took me a while to finally play it). So even though I may be hyping up Black Doom’s return, I myself am not coming from any rose tinted glasses or anything, these are just observations from the many discussions I’ve seen online or videos showcasing these games. Same would go for a lot of people into that game as many while loved it, still would acknowledge where it fumbles and how it’s definitely not the definitive Sonic experience to have.
Sonic has begun to evolve, experimenting with new ideas and offering new and different ways to enjoy the franchise. As mentioned earlier, lots of shit happened in the past 4 months. While I agree that something like Frontiers relying on the same old levels for Cyberspace to be stupid, that shouldn’t undermine the actual new stuff it offers for the franchise. I feel like we’re already far beyond the franchise needing to be like “hey remember Green Hill???” as it’s main identity for a game/the franchise. And even then, this shouldn’t mean Sonic can’t look back on previous entries anymore ever again.
Many want Sonic to be like other franchises, like Mario, Kirby, etc, they’ve been also occasionally doing the look back on an old title or old past, so why not let Sonic do the same? We shouldn’t immediately respond to a callback with claims that it’s poor nostalgia pandering, as the take away imo always should’ve been that there should be a balance between original and new and looking back on what worked.
I am happy to say that regardless what this remaster is, we are in good hands again.
———————————————
also unrelated as hell but pray for this man, he has not uploaded a Sonic video in 4 months, I think SEGA killed him by over feeding him with content 😭
So, it's that time again, the anniversary of 9/11. Two years ago, on the 20th anniversary, I wrote an essay about the Twin Tower jumpers and how we as a society have refused to look their fear and pain in the face and hold it.
Now, it's been 22 years since that day and my thoughts go elsewhere. Now I am thinking about legacy and remembrance. Honoring the dead. How do we fully honor the 3,000 people who were killed that day? Because I have some serious issues with how that has played out over the last 22 years.
I was in my 20's when 9/11 happened, and I was in the Marine Corps, so, as you can imagine, it changed my life, and not a single one of those changes was positive. Right now though, it's not what I want to talk about.
We say never forget, always remember, but how are we doing that. By dooming ourselves to what was 20 years of unending war? That doesn't sound like a good memorial.
I never had an issue with the war in Afghanistan. We were attacked Pearl Harbor style, and that was always going to end the way it did. But the war in Iraq? It made me an angry liberal. I had never been conservative, and I joined the Marine Corps to pay for college, we had been at peace for So Many Years that I guess I didn't really think that could change. The war in Iraq was criminal, though. Dubya and his cronies whipped our pain and our grief into a storm and used it to help him LIE to Congress (both sections) so he could get his war. Afghanistan had no natural resources besides poppies for opium that would benefit the war profiteers. They were strategically placed, but that was it. Iraq? Iraq had oil and Haliburton, Chaney, Dubya, Condoleezza Rice, and the rest made So Much money. Billions were made, and billions were "misplaced." Congress was given false intell reports so they would vote for the Iraq War. The fact that no one went to jail for that scarred me. They lined their pockets, and my friends came home in body bags because they SOMEHOW didn't have the money for proper body armor. I will never forgive them for that.
So... It's not a very good way to remember the 3,000 who died on 9/11. Perhaps the worst memorial of all time. Dubya shackled us to pain and grief, and no one was allowed to recover. Least of all the families who lost people. They were paraded for the cameras to be used, and looking back on it, it was sickening. How could they do that to families and the survivors? Why?
I mean, intellectually, I know why. Emotionally, I will never understand it. The survivors and the families deserved to recover. We, as a nation who witnessed the horror, deserved to recover. But recovery meant no profit. Recovery meant no Iraq War. Recovery meant Halliburton might not make quite as much money. So we all stayed traumatized, unable to move forward.
And here it is, 22 years later. How should we honor the 9/11 dead and the survivors? Well, I have a few ideas.
1. 3,000 people died that day, but it could have been less. Why? Both the Twin Towers and the Pentagon had structural and safety issues that made something catastrophic even worse. The Twin Towers did not have enough emergency staircases for it's size. All skyscrapers were supposed to have 4 staircases in case they ever needed to be evacuated. Both Towers only had 2, and the why of that is rage inducing.
You see, 4 staircases meant less floor space, which meant less desk space, which meant less ability to charge businesses higher rents. So money changed hands when the towers were built, and the number went down to 2 emergency staircases. This was a decision that was heavily criticized at the time, and many in the trades predicted disaster.
When the 1993 bombing of the Twin Towers happened, the towers stayed standing, and the 2 missing staircases weren't a problem. Everyone thought all was good. To be fair, NO ONE ever thought a terrorist group would fly a jumbo passenger jet into each tower. No skyscraper was built with that eventuality in mind. They are now, though.
When the planes hit the towers, each tower lost access to elevators and 1 staircase each. Now, both towers had to be fully evacuated with just that one staircase. It wasn't enough, and survivors have all spoken about how everyone was jammed into the stairwells going down those stairs one at a time at a snail's pace. It's a miracle as many people actually survived as they did.
The South Tower was hit more on the side, so some people above the impact zone were able to get out. The North Tower was not so lucky. It was hit head on, everyone above the impact zone was doomed, and they knew it. It's why so many of them chose to jump once faced with what was no real choice to begin with, burn, or jump to their deaths.
Had there been enough staircases, had there been 4 instead of 2, many more people would have survived. So I think a suitable way to never forget the people who died in The Twin Towers is to enact legislation so that never again can a skyscraper be built without proper emergency egress/staircases in case of an evacuation. Any skyscrapers without enough staircases are brought up to code so that if the worst happens, as many people can be saved as possible. That seems a fitting memorial.
The Pentagon was built like a fish trap, the idea was if an enemy somehow got in, they would never get out. No one ever factored in the notion of a jet being flown into the building, most of the inner ring collapsing and massive explosion damage and fire racing through everywhere. There are many stories of people pounding on the glass and not being able to get out.
Thankfully for the people at the Pentagon, they were not in a skyscraper, and first responders were able to find ways to get to them. But they couldn't and didn't get to everyone. So I think a fitting memorial to the Pentagon dead that day would be to make sure no building is so secure that you can't get out, can't truly evacuate, if the catastrophic happens. When a building is on fire, everyone deserves the best possible chance to get out and get home alive.
2. The first responders of 9/11 were the heroes of that day. I think we can all agree that the very definition of heroic is running back into a collapsing and/or burning building determined to save just one more life. So many first responders died that day doing the best they could to save lives. The ones who survived were harrowed to their bones.
The people who worked the wreckage of both sites, who collected what was left of human remains. Who bit by bit picked up the wreckage and tried to heal two cities with the labor of their hands. These people were also heroes, and anyone who says differently is just wrong.
They were told it was safe, and they were told we would take care of them. However, it wasn't safe. Both of these groups of people have had massive health complications ever since from the toxins they were immersed in for days, weeks, months, and even years. The dust alone caused so much lung damage.
Then, to add insult to injury, a Republican congress tried to take away their health benefits, to leave them twisting in the wind. These ghouls left the ACTUAL heroes of that terrible time in chronic illness, terrible pain, and in many cases tried to let them die. Why? Because they were too cheap to spend a dime on these people. John Stewart basically had to retire from The Daily Show to shame Congress into taking care of these people.
On the 17th anniversary he gave a blistering speech to them and I paraphrase here: "17 years ago, they acted heroically and did their jobs. They did their jobs! NOW DO YOURS!"
You want to know the very best way to remember the first responders who died in 9/11? Take care of their brothers and sisters who survived, their brothers and sisters who spent years working The Piles. None of these people should EVER pay so much as a dime for their health care ever again. For the rest of their lives. Period.
This is how we should memorialize them, this is how we never forget. Not chaining us to a never ending cycle of pain, despair, and anger. Not lying to us to get a second war that no one needed. Not war profiteering and then calling it patriotism. Not terrorizing our Muslim citizens. Not taking away our rights, not trading our civil rights for the illusion of safety.
This is how we make peace with the horror of what happened. This is how we move forward and let the memory of the dead be a blessing.
Ngl as an abuse victim i hate this idea radfems and terfs spread that men are these "Vile, Disgusting, Ireedeemable Monsters by Blood whose chromosomes make them Evil by Default"
Aside from the ways they use it to justify their transphobia / transmisogyny, it's also an extremely flawed and harmful way of viewing things. Not only is it not fucking true because A.) Even if the patriarchy lets male abusers slide a lot of the time, there are plenty of non-shitty men out there and plenty of men who are willing to learn to be better, and B.) There are plenty of men who have been abuse VICTIMS and making this implication that they're doomed to be like their abusers is an incredibly cruel and anti-recovery thing to do. Not only are you hurting victims - you're also not helping stop abuse at all.
That, and: it leads to this implication that women, by contrast, are "Weak, Demure, Confused Little Creatures who can Do No Wrong" which, aside from how infantilizing that is, makes it seem like women are incapable of causing harm to others - which is ALSO not true. Everyone is capable of being incredibly cruel if they're not careful, and that includes women. And spreading this idea that women are "weak little creatures" not only harms abuse victims who were abused by women by delegitimizing their experiences- you're also giving a free pass to female abusers to not change and keep being shitty people. Not only that, but setting this precedent that they can do no wrong and that they will be protected just because they're women and their abuse is "not serious" (just look at the way authorities handle abuse cases where women are the perpetrators. So many times they don't take it seriously at all. It's vile.)
Abuse is a choice - it is not ingrained in someone's DNA. And making steps to improve yourself is also a choice. And, once again, everyone has the capacity to hurt others whether intentionally or unintentionally - which is why we have make the choice to be kind and make things better. You are not helping anyone by putting people into a box because of circumstances out of their control, and you are CERTAINLY not helping abuse victims nor are you helping women by saying "X gender are Monsters By Blood and need to all die"
(Don't even get me started on how their "evil by their DNA" rhetoric can so easily bleed into eugenics and this idea that certain people are 'undesirables' because of their DNA. I see so many ableist terfs who use disability to hurt others so it doesn't surprise me how their bigotry bleeds into ableism, too.)
Republicans are thrashing around trying to get themselves out of the abortion ban they have tried to win for so many decades. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) was the first. In the fall of 2022, just months after the Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade, he proposed legislation calling for a national abortion ban after 15 weeks. So far, this bill has gone nowhere. Then, in 2023, gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin of Virginia put the 15-week abortion ban at the center of his campaign to help the GOP take full control of the Virginia legislature. Rather than holding one house and picking up the other, he lost both. Recently, former President Donald Trump—who often brags about appointing the three Supreme Court justices who made possible the repeal of Roe v. Wade—offered his own way out of the thicket by applauding the fact that states now can decide the issue for themselves. And in Arizona, the Republican Senate candidate, Kari Lake, is trying to rally the party around the notion of a 15-week ban instead of the 1864 near total ban their court just affirmed, even though she’s facing criticism for this on the far right. Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal came out with a poll showing that abortion was the number one issue—by far—for suburban women voters in swing states.
In each instance (and there will be more) we find Republicans desperately trying to find a position on the issue that makes their base and the other parts of their coalition happy.
It doesn’t exist, and here’s why—abortion is an integral part of health care for women.
Since 2022, when the Supreme Court eviscerated Roe in the Dobbs case, we have been undergoing a reluctant national seminar in obstetrics and gynecology. All over the country, legislators—mostly male—are discovering that pregnancy is not simple. Pregnancies go wrong for many reasons, and when they do, the fetus needs to be removed. One of the first to discover this reality was Republican State Representative Neal Collins of South Carolina. He was brought to tears by the story of a South Carolina woman whose water broke just after 15 weeks of pregnancy. Obstetrics lesson #1—a fetus can’t live after the water breaks. But “lawyers advised doctors that they could not remove the fetus, despite that being the recommended medical course of action.” And so, the woman was sent home to miscarry on her own, putting her at risk of losing her uterus and/or getting blood poisoning.
A woman from Austin, Texas had a similar story—one that eventually made its way into a heart-wrenching ad by the Biden campaign. Amanda Zurawski was 18 weeks pregnant when her water broke. Rather than remove the fetus, doctors in Texas sent her home where she miscarried—and developed blood poisoning (sepsis) so severe that she may never get pregnant again. Note that in both cases the medical emergency happened after 15 weeks—late miscarriages are more likely to have serious medical effects than early ones. The 15-week idea, popular among Republicans seeking a way out of their quagmire, doesn’t conform to medical reality.
Over in Arkansas, a Republican state representative learned that his niece was carrying a fetus who lacked a vital organ, meaning that it would never develop normally and either die in utero or right after birth. Obstetrics lesson #2—severe fetal abnormalities happen. He changed his position on the Arkansas law saying, “Who are we to sit in judgment of these women making a decision between them and their physician and their God above?”
In a case that gained national attention, Kate Cox, a Texas mother of two, was pregnant with her third child when the fetus was diagnosed with a rare condition called Trisomy 18, which usually ends in miscarriage or in the immediate death of the baby. Continuing this doomed pregnancy put Cox at risk of uterine rupture and would make it difficult to carry another child. Obstetrics lesson #3—continuing to carry a doomed pregnancy can jeopardize future pregnancies. And yet the Texas Attorney General blocked an abortion for Cox and threatened to prosecute anyone who took care of her, and the Texas Supreme Court ruled that her condition did not meet the statutory exception for “life-threatening physical condition.”
So, she and her husband eventually went to New Mexico for the abortion.
Obstetrics lesson #4—miscarriages are very common, affecting approximately 30% of pregnancies. While many pass without much drama and women heal on their own—others cause complications that require what’s known as a D&C for dilation and curettage. This involves scraping bits of pregnancy tissue out of the uterus to avoid infection. When Christina Zielke of Maryland was told that her fetus had no heartbeat, she opted to wait to miscarry naturally.
While waiting, she and her husband traveled to Ohio for a wedding where she began to bleed so heavily that they had to go to an emergency room. A D&C would have stopped the bleeding, but in Ohio, doctors worried that they would be criminally charged under the new abortion laws and sent her home in spite of the fact that she was still bleeding heavily and in spite of the fact that doctors in Maryland had confirmed that her fetus had no heartbeat. Eventually her blood pressure dropped, and she passed out from loss of blood and returned to the hospital where a D&C finally stopped the bleeding.
These are but a few of the horror stories that will continue to mount in states with partial or total bans on abortion. As these stories accumulate, the issue will continue to have political punch. We have already seen the victory of pro-choice referenda in deep red conservative states like Kansas, Kentucky, Montana, and Ohio; and in swing states like Michigan and in deep blue states like California and Vermont. In an era where almost everything is viewed through a partisan lens, abortion rights transcend partisanship.
And more referenda are coming in November. The expectation is that at least some, if not most, of the pro-choice voters likely to be mobilized by the abortion issue will help Democrats up and down the ballot. As a result, Democratic campaigns are working hard to make sure the public knows that Republicans are responsible.
𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲:  Whilst in the depths of the Heroes Forge armory, you and your friends come across a peculiar sword that has a mind of its own.
𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: None, allusions to Jim x Reader
𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭: 1.7k
Tumblr media
“Vendel really needs to get on organizing all this shit,” you called back to Blinky. Currently you were halfway stuck between a fallen broadsword and a chest of daggers the size of your face. You could barely hold the heavy blade up, as it was just an inch taller than yourself, and you felt the chest dig further into your back as a nervous squeak passed your lips.
A second later you were rescued, Arrgh lifting the sword like a twig and offering you a smile. You sighed, wiping your hair from your eyes. “Thanks, buddy.”
“You’re welcome,” he nodded.
Blinky appeared at your side, watching as not farther off, Toby struggled to pick up a large warhammer. “Hmm. Yes. I’ll bring it to his attention.”
The pair of you grimaced as a loud clatter came from further into the storage, followed by Jim’s cried out, “I’m fine!”
You let out a small laugh. The Heroes Forge really needed some work. After that last encounter with Bular, Jim decided his friends needed to be able to defend themselves too, which brought you, Claire, and Toby here, into the depths of the Trollmarket armory.
So far, everything was so... troll sized. If only every sword magically readjusted to its wielder’s height (but not every sword was Daylight).
You pass down the halls of the armory in a patient stride, trying to find something small enough to actually lift, when a glint from the darkness caught your eye. Pausing, you turned. There weren’t any lanterns or torches lighting the way, but down this hall, you saw a subtle red glow.
Obviously, you went to check it out. “Hey guys?”
Jim was at your shoulder in an instant, somehow, probably some secret power that amulet gave him (honestly, it was annoying that Merlin couldn’t have made a spare that you could conveniently happen upon one day).
“What is that?” he wondered aloud as you both came to stop before the dusty wooden table at the end of the path. Shields and broken blades laid forgotten on the floor, shoved aside by heroes past. A gnome skeleton sat haunting against the corner, hollow eyes sending shivers down your spine.
No one had been down this hallway in a long, long time.
Atop the table lay a shimmering silver cutlass, the blade so stark against the gloomy doom hanging in the air.
“Great Gronka Morka,” a voice sighed behind you. Blinky rushed forth, hands hovering over the weapon, before he stepped back like he was scared to be near it. “We must be very deep in the armory... very deep indeed.”
You, by your nature, stepped up to it, not understanding his hesitation. “What is it?”
All six of Blinky’s eyes zeroed in on you. “Only the most dangerous piece of equipment in this aged place...”
You turned to side eye Jim, brows raised, before you humored Blinky and motioned him on with a hand. “Okay... So what’s up with it?”
Blinky stuck out two arms and guided you away from the sword. Claire, Toby, and Arrgh emerged from the dark, curious eyes taking in the weapon.
“That,” said Blinky, all so serious. “Is the long sought after War Starter... the Coveted Cutlass... the Bane of Arthur--”
“Speed it up. Please.”
“That,” he continued. “Is Mordred’s Dagger.”
Crickets would have fit nicely in the silence, you thought, leaning away from his raised arms like he were telling some kind of ghost story. You pushed his hands down, nodding. “Dagger? That’s a sword, buddy.”
“To you humans, yes.” Blinky once again hovered his two right palms over the weapon. “But to us trolls? A toothpick.”
You just stared at the blade again, quirking a brow. “War Starter, huh? Looks harmless to me.”
“How dorste thou so?”
The sword’s hilt burned a golden light, a deep and foreign voice erupting form the dark. Every one of you jerked back. Jim quick changed faster than Barbie as his armor donned him. Daylight appearing in his hands.
You leaned forward in the following silence, only to jump again when the sword glowed off and on as it seemed to cough hoarsely.
“Seyeth som reward to youre eldre men!” The sword continued to clear its throat (?) whilst the lot of you stood in silence.
You were the first to break it. “You... can talk?”
The sword scoffed. “Of course I kan! Whethir ye han nevere come a blessid blade?”
You raised a hand and blinked dumbly. “Slow down, my guy. Too many words.”
“Hmm,” the sword grunted, seeming to think. “Is... Can ye... understand this?”
Before you could answer, Blinky pulled you back. “Stay back. We don’t know its motivations.”
You just crossed your arms at him. “It? Come on, Blink, we talked about this. Don’t assume. The sword can talk, so the sword can think.” You turned your attention to the sword. “Sword, uhm, do you mind being called it?”
The quiet that followed wasn’t exactly comforting, but the edge of the blade still glittered a dim gold that must have meant the sword was pondering. “I... Well, no one hath ever called me but that.”
“Is that was you want to be called?”
The sword again hesitated, whilst Toby eyed you weirdly. It was a sword, for crying out loud, and he didn’t understand why you were asking. He nudged Jim with the intention of sharing a little laugh with him, only to find Jim watching you with something lovestruck in his eyes.
Toby glanced at Claire, finding not a hint of mirth in her eyes as she too seemed to wait for the sword’s response. So he dropped it, suddenly also wanting to know if this sword had a preference on pronouns. He paused. That was a thought he’d never, even after everything, thought he’d have.
“I prefer to be referred to as male,” the sword decided after another few moments.
Blinky pursed his lips and sighed. “Stay away from him.”
“Thank you, troll.”
“Don’t thank me, King Killer.” Blinky eyed the sword warily. “Do not be fooled, friends. That weapon has toppled kingdoms.”
You cast the sword a glance. “Have you?”
“On occasion, aye.”
Oh. That complicated things. “Are you evil?”
“I’m only what my wielder has me be.” The sword sighed. “Lord Mordred was... unkind.”
You looked back at Jim with sorry eyes, feeling your sympathy rise as your friend came to stand at your shoulder again. “I’m sorry to hear that.”
Blinky was getting antsy, his eyes flickering this way and that. “I do think its time we return to the Forge, don’t you Arrgh?”
“Yes. Time to go.”
“Oh,” said Sword. “I understand.”
You grabbed onto Blinky’s cold stone arm then, and suddenly your usual sass was drained from your face, and all that was left was your vulnerability. “Come on, Blink. We can’t leave him. I bet he’s lonely back here.”
“I am rather lonesome.”
Blinky took you gently by the arms, eyes imploring you to understand. “He is deceiving you, Y/N. Mordred could not have lifted that hilt if the sword had not chosen him. That is what makes him dangerous! No one can lift that sword unless he decides they are worthy.”
“You really think a sword so picky?”
Again, all eyes fell on the sword. “Truly, I only thought Lord Mordred to be a skillful swordsman. That is all I use to differ those who dare to attempt my hilt. He’d trained since birth. How was I to know he’d use me to kill his father?”
Sword went silent, his words trailing off. “How... how was I to know he’d be so cruel?”
The crack in Sword’s voice sent you over the edge, your eyes boring into Jim, as if he could somehow convince Blinky to change his mind. It wasn’t likely. Blinky was stubborn, but so were you.
Jim just stared back at you, something in him softening for the sword. “Maybe you should start judging people on more than their sword skills.”
“Indeed.”
“Please,” Blinky begged. The rasp in his voice caught you off guard, and now you listened to him with a newfound transparency. “I beg you... both of you. Walk away. I’ve seen what this sword can do of his own accord.”
Claire inched forward, wrapping her hand around your elbow to catch you attention. “Maybe we should go. Blinky could be right. What if he’s tricking us?”
“But I...” Your words fell short, and you found yourself staring at Sword. His hilt gleamed yet his blade looked dulled by age... or perhaps by use. You shuddered despite the warm humidity of the armory.
“Come on,” Claire said softly, tugging you with her as Blinky and Arrgh turned back. Toby eyed you and Sword sorrily, before following after them. Claire gave up, rubbing your shoulder as she left you and Jim alone.
In the quiet only disturbed by the dewy drops of water somewhere far off and the receding steps of your friends, you stared at that sword.
“Are you lonely?”
“Dreadfully... Goodbye, my liege.”
Jim took your hand, fleetingly, before squeezing it and letting go. “Come on.”
He turned as well, but you remained. Their footsteps echoed away, banging around in the sides of your head, until you made a decision.
Your hand closed around the hilt of the evil sword, and you pulled with every bit of your power. The rim of the blade glowed a subtle whitish yellow, in contrast from its previous red, and the sound of the sword scraping against the table as you hefted the cutlass up rang through the hall.
You stumbled back from using too much momentum, not having expected to actually have lifted him. The tip of the cutlass hit the ground, and Sword let out a little grunt. You flexed your muscles and marveled at how the sword gradually got lighter, at how the glow grew brighter.
“Y/N?!”
You turned the blade this way and that, grinning from ear to ear. Something about how Sword was glowing told you he was smiling too.
“Do you have a name?” you asked him as Blinky practically ran toward you with the others in tow.
“Sword.”
You hummed. “That’s a little impersonal, don’t ya think?”
“I do not have a proper name, my liege.”
“Can I give you a name?” you asked. Jim came up beside you, if only to keep Blinky from ripping the blade from your hands.
“Whatever you wish.”
“I wish you’d call me Y/N.”
“As you wish, my--Y/N.”
A smile grew on your face when Blinky tried to reach past a surprisingly immovable Jim. “How about Cal?”
“... I liketh it.”
“Y/N! Put that down right now!”
When you find out Mr beetleman is a dead guy
Toonjuice x reader
"I guess there's no running from it anymore, y/n, this is Beetlejuice, he's a... dead guy" the kid flinches absolutely terrified you'll tell her parents about this well kept secret
"Wha-" you start
Beetlejuice quickly grabs your hand and shakes it "Come on lyds no need for the stuffy introductions, me and y/n have met countless times right toots?" He chuckles
In a flash Beetlejuice shifts from his current form to that of that loud strange schoolmate of Lydia's, Betty, before you can say anything he changes again into that incompetent handyman, beetleman, beetlejuice contuines to shift and change into every form he took to hide away from the living until he reverts back to his default look
"You're taking this very well" Lydia interrupts, hopeful over your lack of screaming
"The whole time" you whisper "the whole time?!" You shout "the whole time" you continue, this was happening too fast, you couldnt make heads or tails of what was really happening
Beetlejuice pulls you into a side hug, and licks the palm of his hand before trying to smooth back his hair with it "I get how you feel babes, you've had the ghoul of your screams under your nose the whole time, I'd be in shock too"
"Beetlejuice!" Lydia shouts "this is serious, y/n Beetlejuice is alittle rough around the edges, but he's my best friend, and if my parents knew about him-" she pauses "please don't tell them, he's a really funny guy once you get to know him"
This was so weird, but the way the kid was looking at you, you couldn't say no right away, at the very least you'll get to know the guy before making any decisions, an adult ghost hanging around a kid? The whole thing seemed weird to you so until further notice you'll keep your mouth shut
"Yeah, I'll keep this to myself"
With that statement you left, you honestly needed to sit down and think about what just happened, all these people turned out to be one guy, but the more you think about it the more it kinda makes sense, each disguise demonstrated that same level of pathetic and loud.
...
"Did you expose yourself to y/n on purpose?"
You have left the room in a hurry, a little shaken from learning the truth, but you gave your word to keep this to yourself, leaving Lydia hopeful, but suspicious a certain ghost blew his cover on purpose
"What?"
"Did you expose yourself to y/n on purpose" she asks again
"What?! No!" Beetlejuice quickly covers his body, one hand covering his chest, the other his groin, though he is fully clothed
Lydia rolls her eyes and sighs "I'm just saying it was pretty sloppy, even for you"
"Thanks"
"No, y/n walked in before you spun your head, like you wanted them to know-"
The kid wasn't stupid, she knew beetlejuice was fond of you, the ghoul would pesture you at any given opportunity, no matter the form he took.
"Would ya look at the time lyds, I gotta scram-" he was trying to run away
"What's done is done beetlejuice, we just have to show y/n you're a good guy underneath all the grime"
Beetlejuice scowls "if ya wanna drive em off, sure, I'm in the slime of my prime kid, no breather can resist my gross charm♡" beetlejuice snorts out a laugh adjusting his suit
"We're doomed"
Batman the Doom that came to Gotham
"Review"
Tumblr media
Never read the books that accompanied this movie but its made good
Spoilers below cut
Standouts:
1. Sanjay Tawde
Voiced by Karan Brar from Jessie. Literally brought me back. I love that such a simple change to the character made me so happy evey time I saw him on screen. Like its Jason but its also Karan. I loved the little details they put into him. He's always reading, you can tell he's been lectured about his foul mouth by all the stand-ins he has for actual cuss words. He's happy-go-lucky former street rat Jay Jay. More from him in the future I beg.
2. Brucie
This movie is a stone throw away from hitting all of the baby girl marks for Bruce Wayne. Very not okay mentally. Very scrumply umply. Very much loving life with his babies🥺. He's a dramatic bitch, I could not be more proud. (Very in love with Harvey) like he would've been so happy on the high seas with his little family.
Also love an old timey batman. Like bruce shouldn't exist in any other time period after watching this.
3. Ollie
Very bimbo, very drunk, very he would flash his titties if he had them(and you know they're bright pink and pretty)
Ollie being a drunk will always be my favorite Ollie. He's serious when he needs to be but I'm glad we didn't get too much of that as it detracts from his beauty.💅🏿
Now about the the actual movie:
I remember going into this movie saying to myself they better not kill my babies and what the f*** did they do. Like after a certain point in the movie I didn't know what was going to happen. I enjoyed every crazy ass turn they took. I love what they did for the Cassandra (Kai Li)of that universe too. All the characters were their same weird freaky selves in different fonts, I hope they make something like this again😭 (I'm probably going to edit and add to this post cause I'm fresh out and still processing oml)
Honorable mentions
Yo I feel like Alfred was based off peppermint butler. Mans was un bothered.
Cracking myself open for Talia as we speak.
Ra's Al Ghul kinda a bitch in this, like Ra's is normally selfish/self serving and he was resurecting fucking starro or sum shit
I love not having to hate harvey
This is a must watch the only thing they could've done differently is releases this on Halloween. This was good enough for theaters even.
It has always been so interesting to me, the way a bunch of coincidences could lead to lives changing completely. I wasn't even supposed to be at Caltech that day but I had forgotten a book I needed to study in one of the lecture rooms. When I entered I expected to see my professor preparing for class but instead I was walking into a very handsome curly-haired man.
I was very confused when he told me that his lecture wouldn't start for another hour until I realized he must be the guest speaker from the FBI I had overheard the other students talking about the other day.
I was mesmerized by this man and decided to use my acting skills for something other than paying for my college tuition. Somehow I convinced him that I came early to talk about his lecture (without even knowing what it would be about) and he excitedly started telling me about it.
It didn't take more than two minutes for me to decide to stay for the whole duration of his talk because I couldn't get enough of listening to this man. When the class started, I learned that his name was Dr. Spencer Reid, a handsome man who I would soon call my boyfriend.
It was a bold move to hand him a piece of paper with my number after he was done with the class and the majority of the students had left. It was an even bolder move of him to gently grab my arm to hinder me from walking away. When he muttered that he would really like to have coffee with me right then, I knew I was doomed.
So what followed were a lot of flights between DC and LA, seemingly endless phone calls and weekends that would always be too short. We fell head over heels for one another and forgot about everything and everyone when we were together. There were just the two of us with lips hungry for kisses and skin needy for touches.
Spencer was quick to hint that he would be willing to give up his career to move to California if I wanted to pursue my profession as an actress. I appreciated his offer but it has always only been a way for me to make enough money to live a comfortable life while taking my time to get a college degree. It had never been that serious for me, which is why I wasn't really disappointed that I had never landed a job for larger productions.
Moving to DC after graduating was an option I really liked the more I thought about it. So it was only natural for me to spend more time there, slowly starting to feel at home within the dark green walls of Spencer's apartment. It was clear to me that he enjoyed having me around as well when he started showing me all his favorite places in the city he had called his home for several years now.
However, when he suggested introducing me to his friends I was more nervous than excited about it. I had no idea how much they knew about me and whether all those very serious and hard working FBI agents would take an actress and long-term student seriously. Spencer assured me that they would be kind and tried to calm my nerves by saying that they may have even seen one of my movies. Little did he know that this prospect made meeting them even more terrifying.
So when I got ready to meet Spencer's friends at one of those famous dinner parties he always talked about, I had to change my outfit several times because nothing I owned seemed appropriate. Standing in front of the mirror, I looked myself up and down, almost jumping when my boyfriend appeared behind me.
"You look stunning," he whispered while placing a soft kiss on my cheek.
"I do? This isn't too… tacky?"
Spencer shook his head and chuckled, "You couldn't look tacky even if you tried."
"Clearly you haven't seen all my movies."
He was confused at my reaction, reminding me, "Only because you don't want me to! I'd be happy to spend the rest of my life only seeing you. In real life and on the screen."
He was right, I didn't really want him to watch my movies. I knew he had watched one or two when we started dating but he stopped when I told him that I thought it was weird.
"I just really want your friends to like me and not think less of me because I don't have such an important job as you guys," I confessed.
With a firm grip on my shoulder, he turned me around to look at him. His facial features softened when he noticed my worried look. Gentle fingers brushed over the side of my face while he spoke.
"You may not save lives but acting is a form of art and how triste would life be if we didn't have talented people creating art for the pleasure of others? My team sees how happy you make me. That's all that matters to them. They will love you just the way you are."
Wrapping my arms around his neck, I found his lips in a tender kiss before mumbling, "Thank you."
When we stepped into David Rossi's house, it felt like I was welcomed into a loving and kind family. They were all so nice and genuinely happy to finally meet me. Spencer had apparently not told them much about me, so it was to be expected that they would ask about my job at some point.
"So, what do you do for a living?" JJ wanted to know after David had served all of us a little aperitif.
"Well, I'm trying to get a college degree at Caltech but acting has been taking up most of my time lately."
I looked into several faces with raised eyebrows. I feared I would find judgemental expressions but they actually looked impressed.
Derek, however, found this newfound information about me amusing. “You’re an actress? I can see a pattern here, pretty boy.”
“Shut up, Derek,” Spencer snarled at him, his reaction confusing me.
I looked at both men while noticing the others snickering. Raising my eyebrow, I wondered, “What’s that about?”
Derek filled me in on the missing information, “Lover boy here used to date Lila Archer a couple of years ago.”
“We didn’t date! We just… spent one night together,” my boyfriend protested.
He flashed me a worried look, as if to silently apologize to me. It was surprising that he had crossed paths with an actress like her, but we both had lives before we met. I winked at him and laughed, “I can’t blame you. She’s gorgeous.”
That seemed to calm his nerves a bit. Derek, however, still wanted to know more about me. “So an actress, huh? I knew you looked familiar. I’m sure I have seen some of your movies.”
Shaking my head, I brushed him off, “I doubt it. I have only done low budget indie movies so far.”
“No, no, I’m sure I have seen one of them. I have seen your face before. I just can’t remem–… Oh.”
That was when he remembered that he had seen a lot more than just my face. Derek didn’t have to say which one of my movies he had seen, I recognized his look. He had just realized that he had seen me naked on the big screen. I wasn’t ashamed of any of the movies I starred in, in fact, I was proud of my work. But still, I would have preferred not having this conversation right now.
Derek playfully nudged Spencer’s shoulder with his fist, chuckling, “Wow. You’re a lucky guy, Reid.”
“You know that was just acting, right?” I tried to remind him.
Spencer was looking very confused, clearly having no idea what kind of movie we were talking about.
Before he asked, I explained, “I played a high-end escort in one of my movies and did a lot of.. spicy scenes.”
That was downplaying it a little. I was practically nude for eighty percent of the film.
Despite Spencer obviously being uncomfortable with this conversation, Derek still didn’t let go, “I gotta say… you were very convincing in that role.”
Without thinking about it, I giggled, “Yeah I know, I'm really good at faking it!”
My boyfriend stared at me with wide eyes and panic clearly visible in his look. It was then that I realized what I had just implied. Derek decided to throw more salt into the wound by teasing him some more, “Not so lucky after all, huh.”
Spencer’s cheeks turned red and I noticed how little droplets of sweat formed on his forehead. He clearly didn’t know what to say. In an attempt to soothe him, I sincerely told him, “But of course there’s no reason to fake it with you.”
"Wow, you really are a great actress!" Derek laughed.
Before either of us could react to that, David announced that dinner was ready to be served. Spencer seemed relieved when the conversation finally shifted to something other than his ability as a lover. However, I had a hunch that this conversation would still be on his mind for longer than I would have liked.
On our way home from the party Spencer was uncommonly quiet. It didn't take a profiler to notice that something was off and I had an idea what this might be about. Still, I needed to make sure.
"Do you feel weird about me doing sex scenes in movies?"
That wasn't the best way to break the silence but I didn't feel like tiptoeing around this issue. I really needed to know. Spencer averted his eyes from the road for a moment to look at me with raised eyebrows. He opened his mouth but nothing came out. After taking several deep breaths, he finally started to speak without daring to look at me.
"I mean… I don’t love that other people see you naked, but I know that’s part of your job. It's just that… Morgan got into my head earlier."
Before I could react to that, he continued, "But that's not your fault. I'm sorry, I'm being weird."
My fingertips made contact with his thigh, gently squeezing it to get his attention. When he looked at me, he found me softly smiling at him.
"I don't think you're being weird. What can I do to make you feel better?"
Spencer sighed, "I just want to get home and cuddle up in bed with you."
When we got to his place, it quickly became clear that cuddling wasn't the only thing Spencer yearned for. His hands were on me before I had a chance of closing the door to his apartment. I welcomed his eagerness, enthusiastically reciprocating his touches while we clumsily stumbled into his bedroom.
We helped each other shed the outer layers of our clothes until we landed on his bed wearing only underwear. Spencer's urgency grew once he had access to my skin, his fingertips dancing along the curves and dips of my body while his lips explored my neck. My hands found their home in his unruly curls, gently tugging on them whenever I craved to hear him whimper.
It didn't need much for me to feel like I would burst into flames soon, his fingers burning against my skin while heat was rushing directly into my core. From the first time I had been with him, he had this ability to make me forget all my surroundings, only having eyes for him.
When his mouth found mine in a passionate kiss, I couldn't help but press my body against his, desperate for him to give me all he had to offer. His hand found my chest and a loud moan rolled over my lips. It was then that I noticed him suddenly becoming more hesitant. His touches were light against my skin while his kiss got more timid than I would have liked.
When I leaned back to look at him, I found a crease between his eyebrows, giving his current state away.
"Is everything okay? We can stop if you want," I offered.
It was clear that he was contemplating what to say, the crease between his furrowed brows becoming more prominent. Where I had expected to find eyes filled with lust moments before, I only saw a look like a doe caught in headlights.
"Are you… are you really into this?" He finally dared to mutter.
"Yes, of course I am. Why would you doubt that?"
He let out a loud sigh and averted his eyes from me. "It's such that… you said, you were good at… faking it. So how do I know this is real?"
The fact that someone like him would doubt his own abilities made me smile. I understood that he needed reassurance and I would spend the rest of the night giving that to him if he needed me to. My fingertips gently brushed over his cheek before finding his hand that was resting on my hip.
Slowly I guided his palm down my body while whispering, "I know, I'm a good actress but do you really think I could fake–" I paused and helped him dip his fingertips beneath the waistband of my panties where he found me practically dripping with desire, "-this?"
Once he made contact with my slick folds, his pupils instantly got larger, dilating until the gold of his irises was almost gone. It took him a moment to grasp what was happening, so I encouraged him, "Please make me feel good. I need you, Spencer."
He didn't make me wait any longer, letting his fingertips glide through my slit and pressing against my most sensitive spot until I couldn't stop the moans and sighs from escaping my throat. Right before my legs started shaking, his hand left my center, making me whine in protest.
"I have to taste you," he breathed as he kissed his way down my body.
He rid me of the remaining pieces of clothing and found his home between my thighs. With a smirk he looked up at me, certainly finding a desperate expression on my face.
"Tell me what you want," he demanded.
"Please…"
He was still hovering over my body, his face mere inches away from my heat.
"Do you want me to make you come?"
The sudden burst of confidence shocked and excited me at the same time. With wide eyes I stared at him, unable to form words. When it became clear that he was waiting for an answer, I somehow managed to get my lips to form an almost silent "Yes."
"Okay, but you better find your voice again. I wanna hear all those beautiful sounds you make," he chuckled.
With just enough pressure he let his tongue glide through my folds before focussing his attention to the bud of my crevice. I started singing his praise in the forms of whines and sighs and he hummed in delight. When he pushed two of his fingers into me, my whole body started to tremble. It only took a few more moments for him to push me over the edge, making me clench around his fingers as I found relief.
Spencer sat up between my legs and locked eyes with me. The proud grin I found on his face made me laugh.
"See? There's no need for me to fake it with you," I giggled.
Hurried and ungracefully, he pulled down his underwear and laughed, "I think I'm not completely convinced yet."
I welcomed his body on top of mine with open arms, mumbling, "Then let me show you," against his lips while reaching between our bodies to guide him into me.
The sensation of having him inside of me, stretching my walls just the way I liked it, made me hum in excitement. I was still sensitive from my previous high, so it wasn't surprising that the tension in my belly quickly built again with his slow and steady thrusts. His eyes were glued to my face, watching my reaction to his motion.
"God, you're so beautiful," he groaned while accelerating his pace.
With my arms around his neck I pulled him down for a kiss, our bodies becoming one while we chased the sensation of pure bliss. Even though he seemed to be focussed on my enjoyment, Spencer couldn't hide how good I made him feel too. It felt like his groans and whimpers would rush through me like lightning, leaving a tingling sensation in my body.
When he got dangerously close to his breaking point, he propped himself up on one arm and reached the other one between our bodies until he could press his fingertips firmly against my bundle of nerves. With a few tight circles I reached my peak, my wall pulsating around his hardness.
His movements became erratic until he halted at my deepest point to find release, sharing his warmth with me as he collapsed into my arms. After evening out his breathing, he peppered my face with little kisses before we had to go get cleaned up.
When we cuddled up in bed once more, Spencer held me close against his body and let his palms glide over my skin in soothing patterns. I found his lips in a tender kiss before leaning back to look at him.
"I hope you believe me now?" I asked with a playful tone in my voice.
He thought about it for a second before a smug grin formed on his face. "Yes, for now. But I might need a little more convincing in a bit."
"Anything for you," I laughed before my lips found his once more.
Sorry, but I need to say something I've been thinking about for a while. I found geto's death forcing. 1.he loses to a boy with no experience and the power of ''love''. 2.he was stronger and had more knowledge and experience than the boy yuta. 3. It seems that the author just wanted to get rid of geto so that this annoying villain Kenjaku could come. 4. In my opinion, Geto is the best villain. I don't understand why the author didn't want to continue with him. 5. His death was forced because Saturo already had a change in character and personality. What I'm trying to say is that in the film, Satura is already different, he's no longer that immature young man. 6. the serious work was much more dramatic if geto had survived saturo blow he would have become stronger and returned as a villain again with sukuna. Sorry if it's big, but I have these doubts that such a good and well-constructed character had a horrible ending and very little.
Oooh lots to address.
Geto vs. Yuta
Things to remember - "Special Grade" is a classification given to a sorcerer beyond a certain threshold currently within the understanding of jujutsu elders. In fact, Gojo calls out that the curses that have been sprouting up re: Jogo, Hanami and Mahito who are capable of human speech would require a reevaluation of that scale. This is also even as it applies to comparing Gojo's strength vs. Geto's. They're both special grades and Gojo recognizes Geto as his equal but that doesn't mean they're evenly matched.
When it comes to Yuta, in particular, he's an outsider but, demonstrably, was able to replicate Inumaki's technique and learn to manipulate reversed curse energy within three months... Gojo, a lifelong member of jujutsu society, learned how to use reversed cursed energy at the edge of his life when he was like... sixteen. So Yuta's not really someone to turn your nose up at, either. He's proximally related to Gojo himself. Even Kenjaku thinks the fact that he can summon limitless cursed energy without condition is simply ridiculous and he's been alive for forever.
I don't know if you've noticed but, with the shortage of sorcerers, there's no such thing about fair fights in Jujutsu Kaisen. You can expect a 2-on-1 minimum, whenever possible. The fight against Geto was no different. Geto lost against special grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu and special grade curse Rika Orimoto. Bear in mind, Geto's reserve curses were split between Tokyo and Kyoto to distract the heavy hitters for at least 10 minutes for him to go usurp Rika so he was weakened. Even his Maximum: Uzumaki wouldn't have packed as much a punch because the number of curses he'd have had on him wouldn't have been as voluminous. We can say he lost to the power of "love" but... really it was a battle of resolve and Geto's heart just may not have been in it.
Geto Was Forged to Break
I frequently talk about whether Geto was doomed by the narrative and, if I really think about it, he was. From the story's chronological standpoint, maybe that could be argued. But based on the story as relayed to readers/viewers, Geto had been issued a death sentence well before the events of JJK 0 where Gege Akutami starts the series. That's a fact of his character and it would always be his fate, whether weakened by Yuta or not. Now that I think about it, I don't like what that says about the fate of Yuta and Yuji, either.
Villains, Villains, Villains
Heavy agree, Geto is my favorite. He's written so tragically it's delectable, honestly. But I'm not sure he had the conviction to be indiscriminately evil. He believes he's doing it for the right reasons but I don't even think he, in his mind, can justify the means to the end. I 1000% think he found himself snapping in that village and, after such a transgression, had no choice but continue pressing forward, the burden of the sin being too great to question. Because, if he'd taken all those lives for no reason, he'd never be able to live with himself. Kenjaku has no moral threshold to observe. He is guided by the pleasure of his own curiosity regardless of the abominations it manifests along the way. As a matter of fact, the more chaos the better.
Geto went to Jujutsu High to kill Yuta, as someone who stood in the way of achieving his goal of usurping Rika, but goes to the trouble of leaving Inumaki and Panda alive. He didn't believe in spilling sorcerer blood unnecessarily but... he left Maki alive, too. Geto's need for a moral purpose would never have allowed him to work in tandem with Sukuna who thrives on mayhem and massacres. He's an antagonist but not necessarily the villain of the story.
Geto to Gojo
Geto never stops being a weakness for Gojo. His existence, his death, the importance of him even only in body, was never for no reason. He's the lesson Gojo keeps having to learn. Gojo never really loses his hubris, even after Riko. It may have been tempered but there's still no one above him in strength. He holds Geto above himself, anyway. Through Geto's influence, I think he passively recognized how unfair things were but... it didn't really affect him the same way it might someone like Haibara. But, carrying the burden of the jujutsu world and having the responsibility of killing his one and only friend, I think that actually embittered him to take more decisive action to change things in the ten years that followed.
Even so, he was confident when he told Yuji he could beat Sukuna, the only visible threat. He could never have foreseen that he'd be undone by a moment in the presence of Geto's corpse. He was careless in not destroying the body properly in the first place. Gojo continued to be lauded as a god but damned to love, anyway, and it all started with and was made possible by Suguru Geto.
Shan your Tomura posts are making me so sad and so angry at the same time 😭😭😭
Thinking about all the ways and all the times he could have been saved! All the what ifs and all the should haves! 😭😭
"What if his dad came to his senses and was more understanding with him?" "What if someone took his hand or called for help?" "What if he was in that hospital with Touya and upon Touya's escape he took Tomura?" "What if someone with a good heart saw Tomura with all those hands walking around at night and thought 'this isn't right, let me call someone and report' "? "Toshinori should have listened to his heart both times instead of following Gran Torino's advice" "Gran Torino should have kept an eye on Nana's son from a distance" and so on and so on 😭😭
Truly tragic ... 😭
The most important thing to take away from Tenko's story is that AFO probably prevented people from helping Tenko, from also the culture of the Hero Society had a lot to do with it too.
It's been stated multiple times in bnha that heroes can't save everyone and can't be everywhere at once. There's a part of bnha where Deku asks All Might if he has ever failed to save someone and All Might explains that not one, but hundreds of times he couldn't be there to save people. Heroes are only people after all. They have limits. Even if the law makes them look all invincible, well, fear is what powers the smile behind All Might, isn't it?
Fear because you're putting your life on the line.
Fear because you're not invulnerable.
Even the strongest man alive is only a man.
The thesis of the bnha spin off Vigilantes is just that. The law has a limit and it restrains what a pro-hero can do. A power-enhanced society like bnha is full of dangers you can't control, because accidents and common malice can get serious in a blink. There is a gap for evil. You can't close it.
Actually, the only way to control that little breach is through daily decency. To help your neighbor, to be kind, to pay attention to what others need and how can you make the world a better place. It can sound cheesy, but that's exactly how bnha started
Didn't Deku go to save Bakugo as a common citizen? Now, Bakugo is the one who killed AFO. We're saying that if Deku hadn't helped Bakugo that day, the world could be completely doomed.
Big heroic acts count A LOT. I'm not convincing anyone otherwise. It's just that a million little acts of goodness are more important to keep everyone safe than trusting an army in a war.
AFO gave Tenko probably a bit more than half a day to wander around. Tenko killed the Shimuras at dusk, we saw him walking after the tragedy in plain daylight and I think AFO "found him" the afternoon of the same day.
In truth, he didn't wait a lot, did he?
That's because he couldn't risk someone actually reporting that a kid covered in blood was walking around with the stare of a thousand yards. AFO couldn't risk a pro-hero finding Tenko, could he? He needed enough time to convince Tomura that the world was an uncaring place full of apathy for kids like him. AFO manipulated the situation to make it way worse by using the flaws of the Hero Society. That's a fact.
The night the Shimuras died, Nao finally stood up for Tenko and gave Kotaro an ultimatum. We can't know if things could have been better. They died before anything could change.
We have no evidence of Tomura even contacting any of the other kids that AFO manipulated. It's safe to assume he kept Tomura isolated from the world. That means that no one could ever show him any kindness. AFO was not allowing Tomura any chance to escape, not like Touya for example.
AFO probably got some cops on his side when it came to reporting the Shimura incident.
Grand Torino recognized to himself during the War arc that maybe the decision Nana and him took was not the right one. They shouldn't have abandoned Kotaro like that.
My whole point is that yes, society failed Tomura, but AFO wouldn't give them a chance to make up for their mistakes. The only reason why Deku is able to help Tomura now is because AFO is dead.
Not doomed by the narrative, doomed by AFO.
If only AFO hadn't had such insane control over Tomura's life, maybe he could have been saved or at least escaped like Touya did 😭😭 but that man was a pro at ruining children's lives and making sure no one could ever make it better for them 😭
