All the jokes about Ken and horses are good but I just wanna say it's such a good parallel to how actual young men get swept into misogyny and the patriarchy.
Like they're told to believe it means men get to be cool and manly and have this power but with that comes extremely rigid commands of what they can be as a man and a cycle of self hatred for never matching those gender roles perfectly. Patriarchy tells men that if they just do exactly what is expected of them, then they get all the "cool stuff" that comes with. That doesn't work though when there's only a small group that actually gets that power, but men will keep trying to fit into those roles in hopes that they can.
In the end there are no horses or the myth men are told, it's just endless cycles of self hatred and ingroup fighting.

tfw the man you love against your better judgement gets a kid to help him with his photojournalism and dies trying to expose the criminal he's been blackmailing and then the kid puts on a uniform that's way too big for him and calls himself spider-man after ben urich and you know he's going to get killed trying to serve justice to all the criminals in new york. and now there's a sixteen year old kid bleeding out on felicia's doorstep and again despite her better judgement, she cares. how much of that is a misplaced sense of responsibility for her dead lover, and how much of that is the deep feeling of injustice over how this child is the one fighting, and how felicia knows that she could never turn him away. what then </3

you actually shouldn’t get into ace attorney if you aren’t already because i will just be going about my day before randomly being assaulted by the knowledge that a prominent and integral part of blackquill’s design are literal permanent TEAR TRACKS like when i say that i am DEVASTATED—

sorry it's incredibly jarring to hear janeway compare the doctor to a replicator 5 years into their journey. he's a program that's clearly as sentient as an artificially intelligent being like data. it is so bizarrely not-janeway to have her say that about any new form of sentient life, let alone a member of her crew?? like what is going on?

Interviewer: Avatar Aang, why did you run away from home?
Aang: I was told I was the Avatar at like 12, and the pressure got to me so I childishly ran away. :( Ironically that ended up being the right choice, but that's a diff story.
Interviewer: Fascinating. Did you take anyone with you?
Aang: Of course! My best buddy, ol' pal Appa! :D
Appa: Moo
Interviewer: Avatar Korra, why did you run away from home?
Korra: Well the first time- I don't want to talk about the second time- it was because those jerks wouldn't let me BE THE AVATAR! So I ran away to do my duties!
Interviewer: Fascinating. Did you take anyone with you?
Korra: Of course! Only the best girl ever, Naga!
Naga: Woof
Interviewer: Avatar Kyoshi, why did you run away from home?
Kyoshi: After witnessing the death of two of my loved ones. I swore to escape my sifu's control and to get revenge by any means necessary.
Interviewer: Fascinating. Did you take anyone with you?
Kyoshi: Of course! I took my totally 100%, platonic bestie Rangi! Mmmhmmm just friends, totally, ONLY friends. Haha. No secret longing feelings here, no siree.
Rangi: Platonic???? Not by the end of this trip, not if I have anything to say about it!

obviously chandrilan fashion is influenced by traditional east asian garments (the first time i was watched andor i was thinking about how much it reminded me of korean hanbok but that bias is probably indicative of how i grew up near a koreatown) and i saw someone somewhere say that it's odd that the shirts are crossed right over left (the way to dress a dead person) instead of the traditional left over right
now this could be a cultural oversight on the part of the costume designers. it wouldn't be the first time hollywood (or even star wars) appropriated an aesthetic they didn't understand. but with the line "play it how you want. but i'm going to assume i'm already dead," also existing in this show, maybe it's not.
