GADREEL: Well, Metatron is more powerful than ever, but if Dean has the First Blade and the mark, that might give us our best chance. SAM: You're joking, right? An hour ago, we were ready to throw Dean into a padded cell, and now you sayhe's our best chance? CASTIEL: Hear him out, Sam. SAM (to Gadreel and Cas): Oh, right. Excuse me. Sorry, guys. Uh, sorry I'm a little less than eager to hear that our best chance is -- is arming the warhead and hoping it hits the mark. This is not a bomb we're talking about. This is my brother. 9x23
And yet in season 11, Dean will become a literal bomb! (Jack, too, in season 15.)

"When my partner first told me the Oppenheimer movie didn't talk about this AT ALL, I immediately lost whatever little interest I had. Gross to make so much money off of them, yet not even mention the victims. 35 infants died the month after the test bomb alone.
Idk, call me a buzzkill or whatever but I don't think there's enough special effects in the world to make me feel less gross about this. I really thought part of the movie would be him facing the reality of what he created tbh."

Americans want gun control.  :: May 1, 2023
ROBERT B. HUBBELL
MAY 1, 2023
Americans mourn for the victims of the weekend gun violence in Texas and the Texans forced to live in a society that glorifies guns above public safety. The details of two shootings over the weekend are horrifying. In the first, neighbors asked a man shooting an assault rifle in his front yard at 11:00 PM to stop because he was waking sleeping infants in the neighbors’ home. The man with the assault rifle then executed five of the neighbors in their home—including an eight-year-old boy. The gunman remains at large. Governor Abbott said nothing for 24 hours (other than releasing a photo of his golden retriever). When he finally commented, he tried to diminish the horror of the executions by describing the victims as “illegal immigrants.” See Business Insider, Gov. Abbott Calls Texas Mass Shooting Victims 'Illegal Immigrants'.
In a second killing, a man on a date was scammed out of $40 by someone pretending to be a parking valet. When the man learned he had been scammed, he shot and killed the scammer, then returned to the restaurant to finish his dinner with his date. He has been arrested.
When everyone is armed, the temptation to solve every disagreement by resorting to arms is overwhelming. The killings are sickening, and the lawless situation is dispiriting. But . . . there is reason to hope. All Americans are tired of the senseless killings that are the inevitable result of an armed populace. Fox News conducted a poll that confirms that a majority of Americans—including Republicans—now favor enhanced regulations of firearms. See Mom’s Demand Action, New Fox News Polling Confirms Popularity of Gun Safety Laws Among Democrats, Republicans, and Gun Owners.
Moms Demand Action summarizes the key points of the Fox polls as follows:
87% of Americans support requiring criminal background checks on all gun buyers, including 83% support from gun-owning households.
81% of Americans support improving enforcement of existing gun laws.
81% of Americans support raising the legal age to buy a gun to 21, including 76% of gun-owning households.
80% of Americans support allowing police to take guns from those considered a danger to themselves or others, also known as Red Flag laws, including 76% of gun-owning households.
61% of Americans support banning assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons, including 50% support from gun-owning households.
But Republican legislatures are not able to restrain themselves. They are captives of the NRA and the minority of Americans who value guns above all else. The Fox poll suggests that Republicans are vulnerable on a core issue going into 2024. They have picked the wrong side on guns and reproductive liberty. And the economy.
The fact that Republicans seem hell-bent on creating the worst platform possible for 2024 does nothing to reduce the sting and sorrow of the latest mass shootings. But there is a path forward for Democrats as Americans come to understand the dark future that Republicans are plotting.

These ancient Persian battle gloves, from circa 300 BC, were designed for war and offered flexibility on the battlefield as well as a fearsome defense to whomever wielded them.
Their precise engravings and meticulous metallurgy reveals the incredible advances mankind had achieved, even in ancient times, over the 1,300 or so years that had passed since the dawn of the Bronze Age.
The ghastly relics, which were stylistically recalled many centuries later in films like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Edward Scissorhands, and Gangs of New York, were not only capable of disemboweling a man but were beautifully crafted armored gauntlets that were used to defend the Persian Empire, although it ultimately fell to Alexander the Great in 331 BC.
I bullshit you not.

"As an obedient believer, you are to stand firm in the strength of the Lord, to be sober in spirit, and to remain alert in order to resist the schemes of the devil. However, in all areas of your walk as a believer, you are incapable in your own strength and insufficient in your own resources to overcome the wiles and temptations of Satan. Therefore, you must put on the full armor of God to be an overwhelming conqueror in your continuing spiritual battle." - John Broger

Weapons of War from Fury No. 17, 6 July 1977 (originally from an issue of Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos). Some interesting pistols here, a few of which are more First World War era than Second World War.
The Webley Self-Loading Pistol (SLP), shown at bottom left, was originally used by the Metropolitan Police in 1911 before being adopted by the Royal Navy the following year. It was the first semi-automatic pistol in British military service. The article below, from Britain at War No. 182, shows one had sold at auction in 2022 for £900.

The battle over gun safety laws in America. By Gary Taxali May 10, 202
* * * *
Supreme Court is asked to invalidate all local bans of assault rifles.
A case on the Supreme Court’s “shadow docket” could result in a surprise order invalidating local bans on assault rifles. See Ian Millhiser in Vox, A Supreme Court case seeks to legalize assault rifles in all 50 states.
         Per Millhiser,
The Supreme Court could hand down a decision any day now in National Association for Gun Rights v. City of Naperville, a case that could legalize assault weapons and high-capacity magazines in all 50 states.
Should the Supreme Court accept that argument and overturn these laws, it would have sweeping implications for the entire country. That decision would need to be followed throughout the entire nation — which would most likely mean that neither any state nor the US Congress could ban assault rifles or high-capacity magazines.
That said, there is some uncertainty about whether the Court will issue a sweeping pronouncement right away on the legality of assault rifles. The Naperville case arises on the Court’s “shadow docket,” a mix of emergency motions and other expedited matters that the Court sometimes decides without full briefing or oral argument.
If the Supreme Court’s reactionary majority issues an emergency order invalidating local bans of assault rifles, ‘all of Neptune’s great oceans’ will not wash away the blood on their hands. Roberts, Kavanaugh, and Barrett are not that stupid. They hear the footsteps of history gaining on their corruption and hubris.
