this morning I randomly remembered barry scott, a character they used to advertise cillit bang here from a time when the hottest marketing technique was YELL ABOUT IT REAL LOUD. (you know billy mays, that guy with the windows, many others)

one of their other campaigns was making an in-character blog for barry, who would also comment on other websites to drive attention to his. it got canned when barry commented on the blog of a man talking about his estranged father, and the guy, reasonably offended by being used for advertising, tracked the IP and complained.

there's a write-up on the incident that concludes with "The lesson? Don't create fake weblogs for fictional characters advertising commercial products unless you know the world of weblogs inside out". 2005 sure was different.

...well, I woke up at 3:17 PM today.

I woke up and I'm still alive.

I woke up and I'm still alive despite the higher chance of suicide last night.

Yet, even then, I highlighted sana sa paggising ay wala na ang nadaramang sakit in last night's post. The line translates to "I hope that when I wake up, the pain I feel is gone."

The pain is still there, unfortunately.

The pain is still there, unfortunately, and I've had enough of it.

It's time I start dismantling what keeps it there in the first place.

I recently went through what I would call a "mental hell."

It's a state of mind where my headspace is so bad that I feel like I'm in an abyss being sucked into a pool of tar. I've been mentally dragged back to that headspace more and more often since November.

Yesterday night, however... it was the worst version of mental hell I've ever been in since the 20th of December, 2021.

It was the kind of mental hell that made me want to scratch myself until I bleed; it was the kind of mental hell that made me want to tie a noose out of something and die in my room. It was the kind of mental hell that made my sick mind yell to me that I have never been the same honor student when I was younger.

It was the kind of mental hell that told me that I can't possibly be the same person as that honor student kid, that I can't possibly be what grew from that kid who was once called an Outstanding Student by my school.

It was the kind of mental hell that told me I must be some kind of impostor because I'm clearly not the same kid.

It was the kind of mental hell that made me create what I now call a "vent wall" on my vanity mirror.

The small memos are from 2020. The yellow pad layer is from last night.

As you can see, my mental hell manifested into this vent wall – all that is written is essentially what my sick mind has been yelling for months, if not years. I've been like this since 2017, so the scars run deep. I've teetered this close 12 days ago, now that I think about it...

...so what am I going to do now?

I'm going to start dismantling this thing – I'm going to start breaking the corrupted framework that has kept me here for six years.

I may not be the same Outstanding Student as I was during 4th-6th grade and 8th grade, but that doesn't make me any less of a person; in fact, my becoming different shouldn't make me any less of a person at all. I may not be the same, but I still have the same dreams as my 8th grade self, if not more expounded upon as I grew and learned throughout my life.

Here's the plan: I will counteract the vent wall with reframed responses I'll write on newer memos.

I guess I'll finally be able to use my accumulated pad papers and stationaries.

I will counteract the vent wall with new responses and reframed sentiments; that way, not only am I physically fighting these thoughts back into sense, I'm also reminding myself that I'm trying to get better and am getting there.

I might also make a vision board or something out of my closet/cabinet doors while I'm at it. Who knows?

Is blogging still relevant in the age of TikTok and Instagram?

Hello Tumblr people! Have any of you ever thought about the issue I outlined above? Have you guys thought is blogging still useful in this day and age where are TikTok and Instagram popular on the internet nowadays? Well, in my point of view, blogging is still relevant in the era where TikTok and Instagram widely used, and it is also continues to be a platform for content creator to create and share their information. Despite this, it has changed significantly since it was established.

Have you ever thought ‘What is Blog?’

Well, I am one of the few people who doesn’t know anything about blogging too at first. Lets get in to the history of blog first. Swarthmore College student Justin Hall is credited with creating the first blog, Links.net, in 1994. However, it was not considered a blog at the time... Simply a personal webpage.

Then, in 1997, Jorn Barger, blogger for Robot Wisdom, the term “weblog”, which was meant to describe his process for “logging the web” as he surfed the internet. The term “weblog” was simplified to “blog” in 1999, by programmer Peter Merholz. A blog was originally a personal online log or diary where someone could share information or their views on many different kinds of topics. The information was provided in reverse chronological order, with the most recent post appearing first. A blog is now a frequently updated website or web page that can be used for personal or professional purposes.

While the rise of social media has caused some to declare that blogging is no longer relevant, the truth is that blogging is very much alive and well. There are more blogs than ever before on topics ranging from fashion and travel to politics and entertainment.

Nowadays, blog is mostly used by blogger to share their content, idea, and new information that they get with others. Media flexibility is one of the key points why I personally think that blogging is relevant in this age of TikTok and Instagram. As we all know, Instagram and TikTok support photo and video format only while blog can have a mix of text, image, videos and everything in it. As a result, blogs may be utilized to transmit the message much more efficiently by using numerous media types. With blog the blogger have more control over your platform's design and functionality.

Other than that, for people in business, blogging may be a strong marketing tool. They can market their goods or product through blog post for their client or consumers to stay up to date with their product updates. Blogging is an important component of any digital marketing strategy; it may boost leads by 67% and generate up to 97% more connections to your website. Visitors are drawn in by entertaining blogs that are well-written and give useful information. An amount of 61% of web users in the United States have purchased something after reading a blog. Bloggers can acquire the trust of their audience by continuously generating quality material that answers common issues and delivers credible information. Customers are more willing to conduct business with brands they trust, which can increase conversions and revenue.

Blogging can also boost your creativity and also sharp your critical thinking. To add on, it can also help people better their personal and professional life by sparking fresh ideas, discovering new perspectives, and thinking outside the box. But back to it again, every social media platform has it owns advantage.

Trends change with the seasons in the always changing world of the digital era. One may question the continued relevance of blogging, the long-time champion of long-form material, in the age of TikTok's 60-second clips and Instagram's finely curated photo grids. Let's first take a closer look at blogging before moving on to the subject.

Blogging

A blog, often known as a weblog, is a frequently updated online page that is used for business purposes or personal comments. The original forms of content marketing on the internet were blogs. They have existed since the earliest days of the internet (Beyond the Panorama 2022). Today's blogs are more likely to be personal online diaries or business-related commentary that's updated often and aimed at the broader public (Barney 2022).

TikToks and Instagram

 

Now that we know what blogging is, let’s dive into TikTok and Instagram. TikTok is a social media site that only supports short-form videos, whereas Instagram is a fully developed visual social media platform that supports photo sharing on top of any type of video, including both short-form and long-form clips (Maria 2022). Instagram was designed from the beginning to be a platform for sharing everyday stuff. a picture of your dinner or a picture of you eating with your companions. But with time, that type of stuff seemed to shift. We now hear more about Instagrammers, influencers, and content creators than phrases like bloggers because Instagram has grown into what feels like an unstoppable force.

So, how do we determine if blogging is still relevant in the era of TikTok and Instagram? Let’s decide it by looking at their main factors.

Longevity

Like gemstones, blogs are eternal. Blogs are permanent, unlike reels and TikTok videos, which only last a short while. This is because even if the videos are out-of-date, users can continue to discover relevant content on blogs via search engines (Beyond the Panorama 2022).

Purpose

Reels and TikTok were primarily developed as forms of entertainment, or at the very least, infotainment. On the other hand, blogs can be educational, amusing, or sales-focused, and they can support businesses in achieving a variety of goals (Beyond the Panorama 2022).

Media Flexibility

Reels and TikTok videos only enable video formats, whereas blogs allow for the inclusion of text, photographs, video, and other media. As a result, blogs may be utilised far more effectively to spread the word by utilising a variety of media formats. Because blogs offer more options, this offers consumers more freedom to decide (Beyond the Panorama 2022).

Platform Independence

According to Beyond the Panorama (2022), reels and TikTok are only available on those two platforms, respectively. They can only be used to target the usual young adult and teenage audiences of these networks. In contrast, blogs may be optimized for SEO to be found by Google on any platform.

More Structured

Even now, people read articles and blog postings. Sometimes people just want to click on a link, browse the content, and choose the information they need. Not every individual wants to watch a video for a piece of information. Articles are more structured, you don't have to know who wrote them, and they're highly useful in numerous areas of life.

Community

In the quick-paced world of TikTok and Instagram, there is frequently a lack of a sense of community and connection. Although these platforms are fantastic for getting instant likes and comments, bloggers may build long-lasting relationships with their readers by participating in continuous discussions in the comments area or through email newsletters. In addition to knowledge, many readers flock to their favourite bloggers for a sense of community and belonging to a specific specialty.

In conclusion, while TikTok and Instagram are undeniably popular and play a big part in how people consume material today, they cannot replace blogging for its distinctive contribution to the online world. There is still a place for bloggers who are passionate about sharing their ideas and tales with the public in a world that seeks both instant enjoyment and in-depth knowledge.

Blog, a combination of "web" and "blog" often known as weblog, is a website / webpage that is updated regularly to provide insight on a certain topic from personal matter to official business using text, videos, gif, images and other related media. In the world we are in today, blogs are more likely to be for personal use such as an online diary where people write about their daily lives expressing their ideas, creativities and thoughts in a creative and fun way for other users to read or interact with. As for professional bloggers, they are writing blogs to a certain targeted group of people where people needs to pay money to view the blogger's contain as a source of income. (Weiner, 2023)

TikTok?

TikTok is a Gen Z social media platform where users create, share and watch 15-seconds videos with filters and music playing on the background. (D'souza, 2023)TikTok are known for their micro-videos that contains life hacks, entertainments and brand promotions that are personalized by the user according to their preference which influence users that are on their teenage years to young adults to develop an addiction to watching these videos from day to night. Instagram?

An application that is built mainly for users to edit with the platform’s editing tools and post / share photos or videos with hashtags and geotags that will appear on the feed of their followers. Other Instagram users can also view those photos through hashtags and geotags as long as the account was set to be public. (Holak, 2017)

Now that Instagram and TikTok are one of the most popular app in the world, with tons of influencer on the platform, newer generations tend to lean more towards those apps compared to platforms such as Tumblr and Blogger due to the creative eye catching contents that can easily catch a user’s attention within a few seconds rather than reading a blog that has long descriptions/ captions that will take about 5 minutes to read.

What are the functions of blog post?

Blog posts can be a lot of things, from personal to official businesses. Blogging can be a safe space for you to explore your independency and be yourself thus share information and ideas to an online community. Unlike Instagram reels and TikTok that are only supporting video format that are more focused on entertainment, blogs are more informational and focused on a certain topic that can help someone individually, businesses or in an educational way in a media friendly platform that allows long paragraphs, images, videos, gifs and other source of media. Blogging can play a huge role in education in our generation for both learners and educators through their writing skills due to its blogging’s nature of writing out contents to be publish. This practice helps improve their grammar, and writing skills that indirectly leads to their writing structure and how they organize their content effectively. Aside from that, students can express themselves creatively through thoughts, opinions, and experiences that overtime they will notice their personal growth in their areas of interest that goes beyond the classroom’s setting. As for social skills, blogging can be collaborative, it allows students to work together by combining their ideas to solve a particular topic, this will widen their perspective as well as allowing them to think competently.

A corporation may increase its online presence by using blogging as a content marketing strategy to publish material about its goods or services. You stand to earn more than just visibility in fact, half of marketers rank business blogging as their top priority due to its importance. This will explain the numerous advantages blogging may provide to a company, regardless of its business model, and will offer advice on how to start a blog, develop an effective digital marketing plan, and implement crucial digital distribution tactics (Shwake, 2018).
