Developing a Website for WebTV

It will likely not be finished before the end of the year, but I'm going to start work on making a WebTV version of my website.

If you don't know what WebTV is, it is basically a way to browse the web in the 90's to Early 2000's using a CRT Television Set. Imagine if you can convert that bulky TV that only did 480p into a Smart TV. That is what WebTV is, later known as MSN TV after Microsoft brought them out.

I do understand that it's obsolote and perhaps not considering worth it, but believe it or not, I have done it in the past, making a WebTV version of my site using Linode. I did it for two reasons:

To make my stuff accessible for anyone that are still using the WebTV/MSN TV set top boxes, as a little bonus/curiousity, even if my website ends up being used as nothing more than just to test if it works.

Because I want to. I like to think developers make stuff on older hardware because they want to. It just pleases them.

I have since been able to host my own website with a Raspberry Pi since then, so all limitations in regards to storage and content is gone.

Now then, since I switched to Linux, and I am not sure how compatible WebTV-Emu (from MattMan) is with WINE, but I do know that the official MSN TV emulator works well with WINE, so I'll be using that in the meantime for debugging and all that jazz.

I don't actually any experience using WebTV mainly because I was born at the time when they were still selling, and by the time I have heard about them, they were long discontinued. But the concept sounds so interesting and cool, considering that back then, Smart TVs were not much of a thing, or at least, browsing the web from the television instead of a computer.

I'll likely be livestreaming myself working on the WebTV version of my website tomorrow, so catch me there at around 5:30 PM or 6:00 PM Central Standard/Chicago Time.

I wonder to myself if I will break this habit of mine on working on the same stuff and instead work on something new...

Benvenuti all’ottava edizione del Teverina Buskers 2023, Festival Internazionale Artisti di Strada che ha luogo nel Comune di Celleno all'interno del borgo fantasma, nella #ValledelTevere. Organizzato dall’associazione Il Circo Verde un associazione di circensi che vive nel borgo fantasma, quest’anno dal 14 al 17 Settembre le strade di Celleno saranno invase da artisti, giocolieri, musicisti nel suggestivo scenario del centro storico. Il Teverina Buskers e’ un festival autofinanziato e anche il merchandising e’ autoprodotto, con prodotti artiganali che potete trovare all’interno del festival, dove e’ possible reperirli con donazioni volontarie che supportano l’arte e la passione nell’organizzare il festival anche per gli anni futuri. Oltre a circensi e musicisti c’e’ anche la via dell’artigianato, dove troverete artigiani di ogni tipo, dal cuoio alla ceramica, ai dipinti e alle cose piu’ strambe e particolari, inoltre una parte molto importante del nostro festival e’ la piazza pirata ovvero uno spazio aperto dove qualsiesi artista che vuole esibirsi puo’ farlo liberamente come “off” durante i giorni del festival. Tra il fossato, piazza castello, la postazione performance e la postazione alberello, ci saranno spettacoli, di ogni tipo, musicisti e sopratutto l’ingresso e’ gratuito con uscita a cappello per ogni piazza dove avviene uno spettacolo. Un altro aspetto importante dell’organizzazione del Teverina Buskers e’ che tutto lo staff e’ composto da volontari che credono tutti in un unico intento quello di far rivivere il borgo fantasma nella magia del circo e dell’arte di strada. Tra i vari sostenitori del Teverina Buskers c’e’ anche il progetto del circo sociale Circusingaza supportato da una ong di Milano che organizza ogni anno delle carovane di circensi che vanno in zone di guerra per riuscire a dare una nuova speranza a chi purtroppo non puo’ permettersi una vita come ce l’abbiamo qui noi. Il Teverina Buskers, racconta Sophie MessyFlow, nasce con l’intento di restituire al luogo in cui viviamo un qualcosa di bello che e’ parte del nostro mondo da dieci anni e Celleno in Teverina tra l’arte si trasforma in uno scenario unico.
