ideas for what the crew is up to in this modern sailing club au concept
oluwande is by far the best sailor at the club, but instead of participating in races, he almost always just mans the little chase boat that goes around moving markers for the race course and picking up anyone who falls out of their boats* (*basically just stede)
lucius doesn’t really sail, and generally spends his time at the club tanning on black pete’s boat. during races, though, he’s usually the one who sits on the race boat recording people’s times
jim can fix an outboard motor with just the slightest degree of competence, and yet has somehow ended up with everyone in the club paying them to fix any broken outboards. like the diesel mechanics equivalent of asking your 15-year-old grandchild to fix your email
roach holds it as a matter of some pride that he has the most trophies of anyone at the club. the fact that 9 out of 10 of these trophies are not for winning regattas, but for winning chili-cooking competitions, is immaterial
buttons camps at the club every weekend. once, the swede showed up to do some work on his boat on a wednesday, and buttons was there camping then too. does he ever go home? no one’s sure
frenchie and wee john will often take a boat out together specifically with the goal of taking it out to the middle of the lake, turtling it (tipping it completely upside down), and going swimming using the upside-down boat as a platform
bonus: once, some of the college students at my old club decided that they didn’t want one of their race boats anymore. instead of selling it or giving it away or whatever, they took the damn thing out to the middle of the lake and tried to sink it by setting it on fire. my point is, this is calico jack

CAMPUS NEWS
The investigation into Greer Morrison’s disappearance is ongoing, with no updates on her whereabouts as her 22nd birthday had come and gone. There are also no further updates on who may have taken the files during the blackout, or who may be behind the anonymous message sent out to students. However, there are rumors starting to circulate campus thanks to some weirdness that apparently occurred during the haunted house...only time will tell if any of them have truth behind them or if it’s just a case of an overactive, scared imagination.
ooc; if your character wishes to report something, they may do so in an ask to the main.
CAMPUS EVENT
The rock climbing club team is having a bouldering scrimmage Wednesday afternoon at the athletic center for anyone who wants to check that out - you don’t have to be a team member to attempt a climb !!!
Aca-believe it !!! The acapella clubs are having a performance in the quad on Thursday evening, inspired by - of course - the riff-off from Pitch Perfect.
ATHLETIC GAMES
FOOTBALL - Friday night, November 4th
CREW AND SAILING REGATTA - Saturday afternoon, Nov 5th
SOCIAL EVENTS
FRATERNITY SEMI-FORMALS
WHAT: Both SAE and Pike have semi-formals this weekend - the brothers invite dates, get all dressed up, and dance (& drink) the night away. Considering what a fixture THE GOLDEN GIRL always was at these events, it’s sure to be a different vibe this year.
WHERE: The nearest upscale hotels that will agree to host a fraternity event
WHEN: November 4th (SAE)/5th (Pike)
EVENTS IN TOWN
The fall farmer’s market is open all day Saturday and Sunday - anyone who attends can find various stands selling local produce, farm products, and handmade pieces from local artists. It’s always an enjoyable way to spend a weekend day getting away from campus !!!
BIRTHDAYS THIS WEEK

Transatlantic Race 2025 || New York Yacht Club
The start date for the next edition of sailing's greatest Corinthian challenge has been set. The Transatlantic Race 2025 will depart Newport, RI on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 headed for the southern coast of England. A virtual gate off Lizard Point will enable teams to challenge the course record for this historic passage, but the official finish will take place off the Royal Yacht Squadron's waterfront castle in Cowes, England.
The Transatlantic Race 2025, is a direct descendant of the first great transatlantic ocean race, which started from New York Harbor on December 11, 1866. In the years since, this course has been plied with less frequency than other, shorter offshore race tracks; the 2025 edition will be just the 32nd transatlantic race organized by the New York Yacht Club. Because of that, and the fact that a race from the United States to Europe (or the return) is virtually guaranteed at least one significant storm, simply finishing a transatlantic race remains one of sailing's most coveted accomplishments.
The Organizing Authority of the TR2025 is comprised of the New York Yacht Club Regatta Association, Inc and the Royal Ocean Racing Club. Together with the support of their partners, the Royal Yacht Squadron and Storm Trysail Club, these renowned sailing established will ensure this edition of the Transatlantic Race will be a memorable one.

Thurne Mouth Open Regatta
Wednesday, 24th - Monday, 29th May 2023
Wind NE (all 6 days!)  10 - 18mph          2 sunny days, 4 grey days)       Temp 14°C Max
Total distance 0 miles
The weekend of the Thurne Mouth Open Regatta (TMOR). We were not racing but were helping with breakfasts, behind the bar and safety boat duties.
Went aboard Lily late on Wednesday evening and had a very peaceful night. On Thursday we helped out with the setting up and did the same on the Friday morning. We left the site after lunch on the Friday to go back to Norwich for a concert by the BBC Singers, returning later that night. On the Saturday the racing started properly. Mrs Crew cooked breakfasts and we both ran the bar for a couple of hours. Then back to Norwich for the closing concert of the NNFestival with the Hallé Orchestra performing in St Andrew’s Hall. Another late night back to the regatta site. On the Sunday we were on safety boat duties for five hours and had to deal with the coming together of a competitor and a holiday maker on a motor cruiser. It took a while to extricate the bowsprit from the inside of the other boat. Monday saw the close of the regatta with us again on bar duty. Unsurprisingly, Lily won the cup for the best dressed boat at the regatta.

Georgetown, Bahamas Deja Vu all over again
April 17, 2023
Tonight, we are tied to a mooring ball about 1 mile from where we were anchored six years ago. 200 yards off the bow is the world famous, to Bahama cruisers anyway, Volleyball Beach home of Chat and Chill a beach bar whose motto is “the Chat is free, but you must pay for the chill”. Meaning to use our beach you must buy our 2 brands of Bahama brewed $7 beer or spring $8 for a Bud Light. None of these beers make the Changes in Attitudes top 100. As we sit “at anchor” with party boats blasting their playlist of thumping bass with other sounds mixed in, water taxis racing by leaving 1′ wakes that rock the boat and continue past our normal bedtime memories come back as to why this was not one of our favorite stops.
This time the experience may be worth the irritation, it is the week of the Family Regatta.
The Family Regatta is the largest of all of the Regattas in the Bahamas. This year is special as The Bahamas are celebrating their 50th year of independence. This Regatta marks the resumption of the Regatta after a 3-year hiatus. And at this year’s Regatta they will make sailing their national sport. All the government big wigs will be here from the Governor General and Prime Minister on down to local clerks. Its quite the event.
Today we toured Georgetown and found it abuzz with activity and preparations. As we watched the competitors boats being unloaded from the ships Laurie, from our buddy boat Driftwood, engaged a captain and coaxed him to describe the competition in detail. He described how the boats were built, the start, the “rules” and the course. It was fascinating.
The party starts tomorrow afternoon with opening ceremonies in the afternoon. The culmination of the day is an afterparty at 1AM.
I think we will skip that. And I understand the racing is better when the skippers all have raging hangovers.
Racing commences on Wednesday with the finals on Saturday. The crew of Driftwood and us scouted vantage points today but the best one may be from the dinghy along the racecourse.
When we were here 6 years ago this was the southern destination of that cruise, this time it is a waypoint as we now want to go further south and explore places we haven’t been or seen. Our plan is to visit Long Island next. Its not far from here, but far enough that it is not nearly as crowded as Georgetown. And I think the crew of Changes in Attitudes is ready to go off the beaten path.
Now we need the weather window to go.

We need some fun engagements for Kate, the ones she has done recently barely any RRs reported on them or anything and there’s not many photos also, I miss seeing a William and Catherine joint engagement🥺
100% agree! I’m not always obsessed with William and Catherine engagements because I want 100% of the attention on my girl and not on her bald husband but I love seeing how happy they are together. I always do a list of predictions for each year but here are my royal watching dreams for Catherine’s schedule next year:
Good PR - she must attened all of the events which generally provide good PR for the royals with little to no effort (Trooping, Remembrance Sunday, Festival of Remembrance, Christmas Day Walk, Pre-Christmas Dinner, Easter, Ascot, Chelsea Flower Show, Wimbledon, at least one football match, Commonwealth Day Service, Balmoral in the summer, Garter)
Sport - I’ve already mentioned Wimbledon (I’d like to see 3 visits - one earlier in the fortnight and the two final days). I want her to go to at least one public football match and, if possible, a rugby match. She should attend as much of the Commonweatlh Games as she can (I’m thinking every day but I’ll settle for once every two days). At least one hockey engagement and one sailing engagement. Speaking of sailing...
Projects - King’s Cup Regatta please and thanks. I expect to see more visits to work focused on the early years - both specifically related to her centre and not. Another arts/outdoors based project, possibly something with Place2Be about the importance of young people physically expressing themselves through art?
Patronages - a minimum of one “public” engagement with each patronage (at least a photo must be released). Visit an EACH hospice. Do a sailing engagement. A joint event between the NPG and RPS. View a new exhibit at the NHM. Literally anything with the Royal College of Obs and Gynae.
Jubilee - all the possible engagements. Trooping is obvious. Light one of the jubilee beacons (TAKE THE KIDS). Service of thanksgiving. Epsom Derby. Party at the Palace. Jubilee Lunch. Pageant. Go with the Queen to the official grand unveiling of the official emblem. Tour the countries of the UK. A commonwealth tour.
Other - visit Cambridge again. Also, Strathearn and Carrickfergus. A summer engagement in Cornwall and Scilly. More UK-based away days. Solo overseas visits to European countries (about two, one day each). That Malta visit which was eventually given to William to finally be done by Kate. A tour. A consistent work rate - I’ll settle for something like Monday off, Tuesday engagement (maybe away day), Wednesday meeting, Thursday off, Friday short engagement. A mixture between project-linked engagements, patronage engagements, and the boring salt-of-the-earth engagements. I want to see her with the public again. More engagements with children. More outdoorsy engagements. I just want more

Random Question Wednesday
Make a peanut butter & jelly sandwich. Chunky or creamy? Flavor of jelly/jam?
If you could dye your hair any color you wanted, what color would you choose?
What is your opinion about socks?
Current song stuck in your head?
What is the strangest place you have fallen asleep?
Oooh love these!
-So if it is not toasted then I am going creamy peanut butter if toasted I'll go crunchy & always raspberry jam!
-This is boring, but I've never been someone that wanted like pink or blue hair, but I would love to be like a multi-dimensional honey blonde but it's so hard to maintain and my hair grows so fast and it turns brassy so alas...
-I love fuzzy/cashmere socks to wear around the house, etc. but in the real world socks always slip down and become such an annoyance!
-Nothing New, Taylor Swift & Phoebe Bridgers
-On a sailboat off the coast of Spain in a storm taking part in a regatta with some old Spanish & Russian men.
What about you??

CAMPUS NEWS
There are still no leads as to who broke into the investigation office during last week’s blackout. As of now, Greer Morrison’s disappearance is believed to be a runaway case. The investigation is still ongoing into who is in possession of the detective notes. The staff and faculty of Ogden College continue to cooperate with local law enforcement. As always, anyone who may know anything is encouraged to come forward.
On a happier note, the casino night fundraiser was a roaring success, with the attendees raising funds for a noble cause. During the night’s festivities, a rather ominous text giving the students deja vu to homecoming was received, once again prompting the question - what exactly happened to Greer? And does someone among them know more information than they are letting on?
ooc; if your character wishes to report something, they may do so in an ask to the main.

TMOR
Wednesday, 1st June 2022
Wind ESE   12mph            Showery morning, brighter later Temp 15°C
To the boat early to remove the mooring cover, raise the roof and put on our camping cover. Mrs Crew then departed for home and I stayed to help with the TMOR set up. In the evening attempted to dress the boat overall on my own. In the wind the flags and pennants got into quite a tangle but Paul & Jane were on hand to help. A very quiet night.
Thursday, 2nd June 2022
Wind ESE  12mph           Beautiful sunny day                                             Temp 18°C
TMOR started with a fun and games day. Lots of fun & a great start to the Regatta. There was a competition to see who could make the best Platinum Jubilee Pudding. Unsurprisingly, to me, Mrs Crew won and was very chuffed. It was a delicious trifle. There was a hog roast in the evening.
Friday, 3rd June 2022
Wind ENE  18mph                 Sunny but chilly in the wind                               Temp 17°C
An early start as Mrs Crew was on breakfast duty in the tent. Racing proper started today. Mrs Crew helped the catering team and I was on Safety Boat duty in the early afternoon. Our youngest son, Tom, with his partner, Collette, came over to join us, meet up with old sailing friends and drink beer. We had a sherry party later in the day. The day ended with a burger bar and a very good band. We had a rough night on the boat as the wind increased greatly. The boat was banging around on its mooring and the flags (ours and those of other boats) flapped noisily.
Saturday, 4th June 2022
Wind ENE  16mph            Some sun but lots of cloud                                    Temp 16°C
Mrs Crew again on early morning breakfast duty. Later in the morning we took our camping cover off, lowered the roof and put our mooring cover back on. We took all the flags down. Heavy rain was forecast for overnight and the next day and we did not want a wet camping cover. We also needed to get home in the late afternoon to see Tom. Bar duty from 1400 - 1700 and then we set off.
Sunday, 5th June 2022
Wind ENE  10mph             Grey and dreich                                Temp 14°C
Up very early to drive to Thurne to man the breakfast shift. Helped with catering for most of the day. Once the Regatta was over and prizes presented helped with the big take down. Home in time for supper.
