I've been on a design kick lately, and had the brilliant idea to do minimalist posters based on famous go games. Having far too much fun.
This game is the (in)famous ear-reddening game between Yasuda Shusaku (later known as Honinbo Shusaku) and Inoue Gennan Inseki. Partway through the game, Shusaku played a move that caused Gennan's ears to turn red because he started to silently panic. Shusaku, against expectation, won the game.
Where is Go tumblr. I want to see people hornyposting about joseki this instant. I want to see people dunking on other people for losing a capturing race. I want to reblog people talking about white and black stones on a board please.
And most of all, I want any people to play with pleaseeeee
Me and my bro are planning to make a Go (weiqi) club in Manila just to make more people enjoy the game and meet other players so if you're near, just DM me, even if you don't know how to play I'll make time to teach you! Just know I'm not even good myself yet! Hahah! But I love this game so please don't be shy to approach me.
(Art is based on a sanrio collab)
a love letter from an idiot to a goddamn strategy game
i fucking love go, i suck at it but it’s fine. i wanna play go
come on it should not be so satisfying to put rocks on a board in pretty patterns and try to make those pretty patterns bigger than someone else’s rock patterns
actually nevermind it absolutely should be so satisfying.
i mean come on i played a game a couple days ago and made a territory that looks like a goddamn bunny!! BNUY!
also ive had the privilege of playing mostly players that are significantly better than me and a lot of them give me tips on how to make my pretty rock patterns work better
I watched ‘The Glory’ on Netflix recently (10/10, highly recommend) and got inspired to draw a go board and stones. In go/weiqi/baduk, this formation is called an “eye”, so I just put a literal eye in the centre of it. The surrounded black stones are “dead”.
This is my first piece on CSP! Thank you so much to MT, K, and Moose for the feedback and the help!
This scene in the second season of ENT is the only time go appears in Star Trek, a franchise with VULCAN in it. Data should’ve played go with Geordi. Kirk beating Spock at 3D chess? Should’ve been go. I have no issue with a good ol’ Florida Man being into go, it’s a human game, but the board position is terrible, even being inconsistent with a teaching game! What production designer was in charge of this scene? Why make the effort to include an obscure (to Western audiences) game and put no effort into representing it in an actual way. If it was a handicap teaching game, Trip would be playing white. They write it like chess where one move surprises Trip into a defeat. Who made these choices? It undercuts Trip’s lines about being undefeated when anyone who knows what their looking at see this game.
As some of you may know, I’m an avid player of the game of Go! For the past couple of months, I’ve been using it to practice more regularly and it’s really helped me a lot! Much of the current content is focused on helping new players start playing, so if Go is a game that you’ve been hesitant to try out, I can really recommend it! https://gomagic.org
