Either that or hope that deltarune chapter 4 doesn't conflict with my plans as much...

i think the thing that really gets me about pre-canon durge is their absolute sense of duty, and their utter isolation outside of the cult of bhaal.

most of the cultists seem eager to see durge upon their return, and one even says they were the first to feed him flesh. gortash tells them of an exhibition of a bhaalspawn's corpse and another bhaalspawn's creations and durge immediately plans to attack the hall of wonder to recover them. they then apparently entrust said bhaalspawn's corpse to sceleritas fel to "restore" through taxidermy. they deride orin for her artistry with corpses explicitly because "bhaal will never care" and because orin "[does] not understand lord bhaal".

even their infamous prayer for forgiveness is framed around their absolute submission to bhaal's plans, and the crime that requires forgiveness? admiring his rival's chosen. that's one line, and the next three paragraphs are swearing to carry out his plan exactly as they've been told to, all for his forgiveness.

hell, even their room reinforces this. orin has barely touched the place aside from installing her mother's corpse and her manifesto - and that is some of the only decoration. what was it before orin, an empty room with skulls, a bed, a desk, some chests and a wardrobe?

the durge didn't have any semblance of a life outside of bhaal, aside from gortash. and is it any surprise? the only other hint they ever had a life outside of the cult is the flashback of kid durge murdering their adopted family, all thanks to their father's urging.

bhaal even tries to force them back into isolation after they've been tadpoled by forcing them to kill alfira, and then trying to force a durge who resists him to kill their lover. if they continue resisting, bhaal kills them. bhaal will not allow them to have a life outside of him and, if it weren't for jergal, he would've succeeded.

#bg3 spoilers #the dark urge #honestly writing this all out it's weird that bhaal doesn't try to kill your party when you're at the temple #it'd be perfectly in line with everything else he'd done to durge up until that moment #also just makes me think of how sceleritas will tell an evil durge that the worst thing they've ever done #is giving a beggar a coin without asking for anything in return #ymmv and everyone has their own headcanons but pre canon durge was not a happy or enthusiastic participant as far as canon shows #which is reinforced by gortash saying you've always been better at controlling your urges than orin! #why would durge bother to do that when 'all father wants is death in droves death in numbers'! #honestly i think it's v reasonable to think that durge could've been tempted into bane worship given what little we know of them pre canon #anyway haven't played evil durge myself so very curious abt any insights from that route #baldur's gate

To me, I feel like the weird route has an aspect to it of the horror of cisheteronormativity.

Many players or deltarune fans project a male identity onto kris, while they are non-binary, the cisnormative, and then along with this pairing them with the most girl obssesed girl, the heteronormativity. It's like it represents the horror of having no free will combined with how most stories are cisheteronormative, many times watching, reading, etc, a story that has queer elements but the characters are forced to stay cis, to "accept" traditional gender roles, to be straight, it feels like the author is forcing the characters, just like the Weird Route, I think it's a meta commentary on the fandom and media in general.

Part Two of my rant about the Obliteration Route in Deltatraveler from someone who's only seen letsplays because she's only playing pacifist.

TL;DR I live reblog a rant about the Obliteration Route and how Susie's actions are out of character like Alphys ranting about Mew Mew's character arch.

Ok, now on to thoughts on section three of the obliteration Route in Deltatravler.

It’s two to three sections late, but finally, Susie (and surprisingly, Noelle) leaves the party. Honestly, I think this should have happened around section 2 after they killed the first Happy Happyism cultist. (Maybe before this, you could use “Self-defense” as an excuse, but they were armed with a F*&KING PAINT BRUSH!)

Susie would be mad at the confrontation in Q.Cs. I kind of get it if we were going for the memeish thing of her being like "I’m not mad, just disappointed,” but no, she would genuinely be mad.

Just generally, I see in section three almost what the Obliteration Route should have been like since Section 2, maybe Section 1.

I thought Devious Susie was, like, turning Susie evil, but from the looks of it, it seems like it's basically (almost) what I think would be in Susie’s character from the first place and NOT after you force Kris to attack her. Still feel like its not enough of a rebellion for Susie of all people but still.

(Especially as she would’ve thrown away that stick at the Paula and Ness boss fight, at least, probably earlier.)

Anyway, apologies for this rant. Just wanted to get out some thoughts. TL;DR because Deltarune established that Susie was the most rebellious against the player's commands, she would have thrown up the towel WAY earlier in the obliteration route. She wouldn't put up with any snowgrave-obliteration route BS, especially after her character development in chapter 1.

Idk maybe I'm bias bc I'm writing a snowgrave fic. (WITH NEW CHAPTER COMING ON THE 16TH IN WHATEVER TIMEZONE THE US AND UK HAVE!)

Apparently that there's a 1-in-20 chance Ralsei will do this instead of falling asleep during the Snowgrave version of the Ferris Wheel scene. It seems to be an intentionally slightly distorted version of one of his dance sprites:

Oh my goodness Toby why... Ralsei why... Why Is He Stretched???

That longer video was really interesting and it's so intriguing that this sprite was disguised with the file name to look like the dance sprite at first glance. I have absolutely no ideas about what this could mean.

A reminder that it's heavily implied that Kris isn't urging Noelle through the snowgrave route.

The player is.

Kris doesn't call for her in the final fight, everyone says they are acting weird and they are visibly shaken after Noelle freezes Berdsly.

The player is forcing Kris to manipulate Noelle in this way and it is hurting them too.

I'm really hoping that this comes into play in later chapters if the snowgrave type routes continue

Deltarune Text Project Update #3

After far too long, here’s another update to the Deltarune Text Project - 99% Complete edition!

To Recap:

- There is actually several pieces of dialogue that I have tried to get, but otherwise cannot get anymore because I don’t know the conditions, or some sort of internal data prevents me from getting it again:    - Kris’s name on 1st save file: If I remember right, this has to do with getting completion data on Chapter 1, so since I’ve finished Chapter 1 several times by now, I can no longer get this.    - Green File Select screen in Chapter 1: Essentially the same as the above.    - The last Weird Route Save Point dialogue won’t show up again, presumably because it’s already been completed once before.

There is also several pieces of battle dialogue that I’m not sure can actually be gotten, or I otherwise don’t know how to trigger them in-game:

- Rudinn:    - Rudinn is alright with not fighting. [Spare conditions met]

- Hathy:    - Hathy's beat slows. [Tired]    - Hathy is skipping beats. [Spare conditions met]

- Jigsawry:    - Jigsawry looks happy about its life. [Spare conditions met]

- Ponman:    - Ponman is sleeping soundly. [Sleepy]

- K. Round:    - K.Round looks weak. [Tired]    - K.Round's shuffle becomes lethargic. [Low HP]

- Rabbick:    - You and Ralsei warned Rabbick about Susie. The enemy went on guard... [Warned]    - Rabbick is now nice and clean. [Spare conditions met]

- Clover:    - Clover seems to be getting along with herselves. [Spare conditions met]

- Lancer 2:    - Huh? What was that? [After Susie blocks Lancer's ears from "The Final Blow of Kindness"]

- Rudinn Ranger:    - Rudinn Ranger seems totally flattered. [Spare conditions met]

- Head Hathy:    - Head Hathy blocked the way! [Encounter]    - Head Hathy's beat slows. [Tired]    - Head Hathy is skipping beats. [Spare conditions met]

- Jevil:    - JEVIL got more TIRED! [Hypnosis, if JEVIL is not sufficiently tired]

- Werewire:    - Werewire swung in! [Encounter]    - Werewire and Maus swung down like stringed superheroes! [Unused encounter with Maus]

- Ambyu-Lance:    - Ambyu-Lance and its pet appeared! [Encounter with ?]

- Maus:    - Smells like wood shavings. [Neutral]    - Maus would like to go to its favorite bistro in this marvelous city. [Neutral]

- Spamton:    - $VAULES$ (rarely)

- Swatchling:    - Please enjoy this complimentary shockwave. [Red]    - What? The lasagna has some kind of explosive in it? [Blue, rare]

IN ADDITION: Like the Undertale Text Project, there's now an “X. (By the way, if you’re [rightfully] wondering why this took so long, it’s a couple of things: one is that both chapters put together are surprisingly long, two is that I don’t have useful tools like an in-game script, save file editing, and room/event numbers like for Undertale, three is that so far I’m going at this completely alone instead of having a group effort, and four is that at one point I kinda just got burnt out and needed a temporary break after so many replays lol)

(By the way #2: For SOME reason, updating the Chapter 2 folder is claiming there’s “upload problems” with 9 out of the total 10593 files and I have zero idea which files those are, so if someone manages to find a spot where some images are clearly missing, please let me know!)
