Working on the last part of Well Earned! I'm struggling with a late-middle and unsure about the beginning, but I'm very happy with the early middle and what I'm working on for the end. 😄

Cassian smiled to himself, trying to ignore the fluttering in his stomach. "Imagine what I could do when not hungover."

Cassian felt his entire body stiffen at the comment, his mind drowning in the thoughts that comment brought up, something lower twitching as too much blood pumped through it. He watched as Nesta stiffened as well, her eyes widening as she realized what she said.

Cassian scrunched his face at his own words. He really couldn't stop himself from walking into dangerous territory when it came to Nesta. As if he was begging her to hurt him again.

Ogata might have technically “lost” in the end, but he won in a way that matters.

Continuing where I left off with my previous observations... All this time Ogata has been struggling with self-acceptance and everyone else proving his worldview wrong, his response was to either show that in reality all these hypocrites are no different than him or to try and corrupt them, both of which did not get him anywhere, until now.

In a way, he is a tragic and suffering figure, not because his conscience is eating him alive, neither is he merely an utterly cold bastard that he appears to be in the eyes of the outsiders. His tragedy lies in the fact he keeps seeking acknowledgment of his true self from the world that continues to reject him. Even the ones seemingly open and willing to give him a chance out of the "goodness" of their hearts, insist on seeing something he's not. And could never accept him just the way he is.

Parts of the fandom claim Ogata's at fault here because he won't grasp the chance at redemption Asirpa has been extending to him, but what exactly does that entail? What the likes of Yuusaku or Asirpa are asking of him is to conform and change himself, to reject and "kill" his self. To give up and fall in line. And as a result to concede the world was right all along, he was the one lacking, his existence was wrong, he was the unfitting cog in the whole set. 

But what really gets me, is that despite the desperate state Ogata has reached, he still firmly says NO! He won't comply and integrate, he will attempt the impossible - to change the whole narrative by force to fit his worldview instead. It's so important to him, instead of buckling under all that accumulated throughout his life pressure, he'd rather pay the ultimate price.

And he might end up doing just that, but he’s going to go out on his own terms, and not without proving his existence first and finally putting a bullet to this hypocritical concept of purity. Completing this harrowing journey of his of switching sides and changing alliances in futile hope he will find a place where he belongs. He might not have achieved that, yet by no means is it a pitiful end if he carved his place in this reality with his own hands and proved his point of view right.
